F4V File Loses 30 Minutes of 1 Hour Presentation

My client used a conferencing company to host their meeting. They wanted to provide me with a complete finished file (with audio added) for upload to the website. They use Quicktime exclusively for their client projects. The presentation was strictly a Powerpoint and no video. The conferencing company asked how I wanted the file. I asked for a file I could use in a flash movie. The provided me with a f4v that they had married the ppt and the audio files together.
I tested thier *sample* f4v file they sent me prior to the meeting (containing a movie of an interview) by putting it in AME and encoding it for a smaller flv in several bracketed settings. These all loaded into Dreamweaver fine and played out ok on my test pages.
When I received the fv4 of the presentation file, I noted it was 206mb. I began trying to encode it to reduce the size as much as possible so it could load ok on the web. For two days I struggled with settings and each result (either f4v or flv)  produced unacceptable results (Powerpoint slides blurry) when I pulled it into Flash Professional. I finally used what I thought was the lowest quality setting I could get away with and a much smaller dimension. This movie was a bit better but stil not up to my standards.
However something continued to seem to be wrong about all the .swf files I was creating. They seemed to have the original 56 slides, but the audio seemed to not track with the slides properly. It was 3 days after I received the file that it dawned on me that the file must be corrupted at 27 min. All other video handlers (including MS file managment)  that I had on my machine showed the same thing, a file 27 min. long. I thought that was the length of the meeting! All the slides were there, but the audio was abbreviated to from 59 to 27 min and the file length was 27 min.
On a hunch, since this company uses Quicktime, I pulled up my "never used" Quicktime player. I don't even like having this on my machine because it is insidious. I played the f4v file in it and wouldn't you know, the file was actually 59 min long! And this included all the audio. But I needed to have the whole file to encode it in AME. Since nothing else I had used, including Flash Media Playback, could see the other 30 minutes of the file I was forced to purchase the professional version of Quicktime to export the file and get it into Flash. Drat.
I eventually gave up on the .swf movie for the web and took the ppt file, added the audio files (that I extracted using Quicktime), edited them in Soundbooth and then used a third party packager to make a flash movie. Worked like a charm.
However, the client now wants to know why I "don't know what I am doing." I need to know, since I am no expert on the art of encoding, is it possible that this file was corrupted by Quicktime when it was encoded by them? And why would it behave as a corrupted file to all my Adobe products, but not to Quicktime?
Why would every video handler I have (that can handle a f4v) see and play this file at exactly the same (wrong) length? It never worked in the online Flash Media Playback either, giving me a vague message about a problem at this time. So what does Adobe Media Encoder see that causes it, when encoding, to take the 56 slides and compress them into half the time of the original presentation and chop off the last half hour of audio? Should I have known this would happen?
I know this is Monday morning quarterbacking, but I am really curious. And it would help to have my ducks in a row when talking with the client.
Thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting back.  I had woken around 3:30AM and got up to check the status of the 2nd export attempt, and when I found the same situation as the first attempt, stayed up to post here and see what reponses hopefully might be here when I got up in the morning.
Ann, there are no gaps on the time line as it is one continuous file, due I guess in how I saved it to the other disc.  Just uploaded the one really good Neat profile I got on the individual file segments in the browser from the RAID drive that I had placed on the time line with the first sequence.  The first three of those left a bit more noise in some spots, but a lot of noise still crawling on the right cheek of the CEO in the low light he saddled us with.  Luckily the 4 try Neat really nailed it.
BUT....after typing the above I just re-inserted the Lexar flash drive and brought up its info and yep it does say, "MS-DOS (FAT 32)"    Uggghhhh!  Bought it a week and a half ago from Office Depot in town.  Wasn't cheap.... $178 plus tax.  Still have my receipt, hopefully they will refund.  This type of scenario is exactly why I bought that large a size ....64gb.  To be able to have enough space to leave shooting job with a client if necessary and they could mail it back to me when the job was offloaded.
Is there any kind of flash drive that size then, that doesn't have the file size restriction I can pick up from on line or like a Frys please?  I think the incredibly slow export was due to the 2.0 USB and all the Neat noise reducing information, plus HD codec I guess.  7 1/2 hour export and only 18 minutes out of the hour covered..  Are there any other convenient options to leave with a client, with maybe SATA connection, which would be safe to ship back to me in these situations that could take the jostling from shipping?
Thanks very much
Ron

  • Problems with streaming f4v files longer than approximate 1 hour

    Hey Everybody!
I have a problem streaming on-demand f4v-files longer than 1 hour! The video starts normaly playing the stream and the player shows the correct overall duration. But if you start skipping/seeking the overall duration change to 13 h 20m and 28s (instead of 1 hour) and the stream breaks down. All f4v files with less than one hour duration works fine with playing and skipping!
I encode the f4v files with Adobe Media Encoder. I have also checked the f4v file with FLVcheck (passed). So, does anybody have an idea in fixing this problem and which format is the best for FMS streaming (MP4, FLV, F4V?)?
    Thanks

To  complicate this further, I found I wasn't able to output F4v files from Adobe Media Encoder (Premiere Pro CS4), without the file freezing at 1 hour 11 minutes and 34 seconds. I output 5 different 2-hour clips, played them back in Adobe Media Player and all froze exactly (to the second!) at 1 hour 11 minutes and 34 seconds. Found it interesting and inexplicable that this poster had exactly the same issue, but involving software that is completely different - http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/53987-Virtual-Dub-Strange-error-help-needed-ASAP     Can anyone make sense of this?

  • Ca'nt ftp longer (i.e. 4 minutes) flv or f4v files (get error message "waiting for server")  I

when I ftp(i.e. "put" or "upload) short flv or f4v files using dreamweaver cs4 the files upload easily and quickly. However, when I try to ftp ("put" or "upload" ) longer (i.e. 4 minutes or longer) flv or f4v files it goes through the ftp process (seeing it in background activity screen) but at the end I always get a message "waiting on server" and the longer files don't get onto hosting server.  Is there a setting I need to change or other method I need to use).  I have worked with my hosting support tech person but we could not solve this problem.

I'd suggest that you try using a dedicated FTP program like Filezilla or SmartFTP.
    http://filezilla-project.org/
Those programs give you much more feedback on what's happening as you attempt to upload files, including error messages, etc.
There is really no difference between uploading large files and small files, the process on the server is exactly the same..UNLESS there are limits to file size or video duration set by your host. So dispite the fact that you have worked with your host support, I'd still say that the problem is server side or being limited by your Internet service provider... unless the video files you are attempting to upload are corrupted.
You didn't say if any portion of the larger video files were uploaded...and FTP program will show you whether or not ANY of the file was uploaded and at what point it stopped. You also didn't mention how large the video files where.... sort of where the "tipping point" is in file size (video duration of course is no measure of file size).
Just to reassure you, the file size of a video file will have no bearing on your ability to FTP unless your host or ISP is limiting you in some way.
I regularly Live stream events and also record them. An 8 hr event will produce roughly 1.5GB of compressed video. I use SmartFTP, with a reputable host and can upload the entire set of 1.5GB of video files (each about 50MB) over a 1000kbps upload connection without problem. Recently during a movie production project, we uploaded a number of single video file which each where over 1GB a piece.
So there is really no problem uploading video files unless there are restriction on you account from the host or the ISP.
    Best wishes,

  • Problems playing .f4v files in CS5.5 that were rendered from CS5.5?

Premiere Pro CS5.5 seems to have trouble playing .f4v files that it has rendered? I basically edit my video, (uncompressed .mov) export it as a .f4v file for YouTube which is about half an hour in length. I then get that half an hour video and do a video preview of what happened over the half hour… like a montage. I used to export my videos to .mp4 and I never had any problems when trying to do my montage edits, but now that I am using .f4v CS5.5 freezes the video but the audio keeps playing, the video won't play at all or it freezes during transitions (and the transitions are rendered before I try to playback my clips) The bottom line is that the .f4v format has never played back perfectly once and I could understand this if I had got the file from somewhere else but I rendered it from CS5.5? Can anybody help me with this please.
    Thank you
    Bird

Hi Jim, thanks for your reply What you have suggested, is what I think I will do. I think I'll create a new sequence from my exisiting sequence and do my montage edits that way instead of using .f4v or .mp4. Do you know why I was able to edit my montages from .mp4 with no problem but not from .f4v file format which was rendered from CS5.5? I just wondered why as this seems odd to me.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Do externally linked F4V files load slower than FLVs?

    Hey there,
I have used the FLVPlaybackComponent in my project to load an external F4V (about 2.5 minutes long) which is on the same server, in the same directory as my .swf. Firefox seems to take forever (about 15-20 seconds cable or T1) to load the file, while Safari and Internet Explorer seem to be very zippy (1-3 seconds cable or T1). Is there something that I can do to make Firefox load the .f4v as quickly as the other browsers? Of course, I've tried this on multiple computers, multiple OS's, and cleared caches until kingdom come. Troublesome version of Firefox is 3.6.
    Thanks,
    -Steve

If anyone is interested...the answer to this is yes.
    At least, with Firefox...
I encoded the same source file to flv instead of f4v, and lo and behold, it snaps to attention when loaded in Firefox. I was even able to encode the data rate of the flv to one twice the amount of the f4v and it still loaded immediately.
While I know this may not be as much of an f4v issue as it is a Mozilla handling issue, I hope others will benefit from this information. Actually, Chrome had the same problem as Firefox, so, whatever Google and Mozilla are doing to handle f4v content is kinda' screwy at the moment.
    Viva flv!

  • Conversion of fragmented f4v files

    Hi,
I want to convert f4v files. Recorded with adobe's live media encoder. So I can edit them in Premiere Pro or play them with vlc.
Right now the files are 500 mb, the information is in it. Only playback stops after 7-10 minutes.
    The following I allready tried.
ffmpeg (does not work, neather windows or linux)
    f4vpp (i get the 203 error)
now I want to set up adobe flash media server and record them with stream recording software. Dont get it figured out, how to open the rtpd stream.
I did a default instal, and when I replace the file sample_1500kbs.f4v in the vod folder with my file, it works well. so now I want to find out how to catch the stream..
    Any help would be apreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Vincent Vriens

    Hi, victor.
With H264 video format, you can convert from f4v file to mp4 (or other) with ffmpeg. You should check ffmpeg.
    I used
    <code>
    ffmpeg -i filename.f4v -b:v 500k filename.mp4
    </code>
    and it worked.

  • How can I fix a corrupted .f4v file?

An f4v file I downloaded is set to play for 30 minutes but I can only get through the first 8. I have tried converting it to other formats to no avail. The file size is much larger than would be accounted for by just the 8 minutes that are playing.

It does sound like you have an error at the 8 min mark.  Since you say the size is larger than 8 min. would suggest you can see if it has errors.
When you put it on the editor do you see the slider at 1/3 of the way to the right when it is at 8 min.?  If it is all the way to the right it would indicate that is they whole length of the file.
If it just quits a 8 min. you might try cutting a little bit of the file at this point and try playing it in the editor.  Keep advancing your cut until you get it to play.
If this does not work then try posting in the flash player froum http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer
    Hope this helps.  Good luck.

    Hi Patrick,
I'm starting to think it's either an AirPort card issue or something to do with the Mac OS. I have stopped using wireless as much as possible in my home (have wired up several new Ethernet outlets), and it sure is nice having Internet run at the speed it's supposed to all the time, and with no drops. Might be something to consider.
    In the meantime:
Open System Preferences > Network > select AirPort > click on Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 > Off > OK > Apply > Turn AirPort Off > Turn AirPort On
    Open System Preferences > Network > select Ethernet > click on Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 > Off > OK > Apply
(FOR LION: If you can’t see an option to turn ipv6 off, set it to link-local only.)

I have several recuring alarms set up on iCal for each day of the week. In the past few weeks, an alarm will occasionaly notify me roughly 15 minutes to an hour and a half late. These daily alarms are identical and repeat every day and there seems to be no apparent pattern to why or when an alarm happens after the event is past.

I assume you meant iCal rather than iTunes? Yes, iCal the time zone is correct. The delayed alarms only happen sporadically. Since I posted this message, the problem stopped happening every day at the same time, but it still happens occasionally with no rhyme or reason as to when. It's gotten so that I can't depend on my iCal alarms anymore.

  • How to convert FLV and F4V files to other media formats

How to convert FLV and F4V files to other media formats
Nowadays, every one can download their favorite videos from video sharing websites like YouTube, Hulu, MySpace, Google Video, metacafe, Yahoo! Video, Reuters.com and so on at will. However, these video files we got are usually in the format of FLV, or F4V, which are not workable by most portable devices, or some video players and video editors on our PC. With the intention of solving these problems, this guide will show you how to convert FLV and F4V files to other video and audio formats in detail.
    1. Download, install and run Pavtube FLV Converter
As soon as you run this program, the following wine red interface will show up:
    2. Add files, set output format and destination folder
Input FLV and F4V files to this program by clicking on “Add” button, and select a format as the output format in the drop-down list of “Format”, meanwhile, you can press the output folder to specify the destination folder or just use the path set by default. Moreover, “merge into one file” enables you to combine multiple FLV and F4V files to be as a single file, if you have this needs, just tick it.
    3. Set advanced settings
Click “Settings” button, the following interface will pop up. You can change the parameters like screen size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, etc. on it to optimize the output quality or compress file size.
    4. Convert
After all settings are done, you can press “Convert” button to start transferring, and then the following window will show you the conversion info in detail. According to the info you can manage your time and disk space properly.
Pavtube FLV Converter can definitely complete the conversion at a swift speed with excellent quality; also it adopts an advanced audio-video sync technology, so that audio and video match very well in the resulted files. Therefore you need not worry about these issues.

  • How to make Adobe Flash Player the default player for .flv, .f4v files?

I have currently installed from Adobe the following applications:
    Adobe Bridge CS6 (64bit)
    Adobe Bridge CS6
    Adobe Dreamweaver CS6
    Adobe Encore CS6
    Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6
    Adobe Extension Manager CS6
    Adobe Fireworks CS6
    Adobe Flash Professional CS6
    Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64bit)
    Adobe InDesign CS6
    Adobe Media Encoder CS6
    Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64bit)
    Adobe Prelude CS6
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
    Adobe SpeedGrade CS6
Adobe Flash Builder is not installed.
Adobe Premiere After Effects is not installed.
I've just downloaded Adobe Flash Player 13, but .flv files and .f4v files are not played by Adobe Flash Player. I've tried to make it default player but i didn't release which file .exe to browse for (by right-clicking and choosing Open with > Choose default program...).

There's a Flash Player Projector (standalone) in the Flash Professional CS6/Players folder, but it's usually outdated.
When browsing to an app to use from the Properties window, go there, but... download this one: Windows Flash Player 13 Projector  and replace the Flash Player that's in that folder.
If you're looking to test Flash files you've authored, then you'll need the Projector, but if you're just looking for a good player for FLV and F4V, then you should use VLC Media Player. http://www.videolan.org/

  • Adobe Media Encoder and f4v files

I have a bunch of f4v files that were created by FMLE 3.2 that I'd like to convert to a more usable format, but when trying to open them in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5, I get an error that says:
"The file <my file> could not be imported.  The source compression type is not supported."
These are f4v files straight from FMLE, with h264 video and aac audio, and they play fine in VLC.  This is all running on Mac OS 10.8.
What gives?  Can AME really not open f4v files from FMLE?

    Apparently not.

  • FMLE + blackmagic intensity pro : locally saved f4v files are choppy/jerky

    Hello,
I'm successfully using the blackmagic intensity pro with FMLE for live streaming.
Unfortunately, although the streaming is perfect, the local f4v files recorded by FMLE during the streaming are not proper : they appear all jerky or choppy. (they are correctly post-processed by f4vpp)
From the strange effect on the video, I'd say the problem seems to be a interlace/progressive confusion in FMLE when recording locally, but why is the stream good...?
I tested both component or composite input of the bmip and it's the same. I've tried all interlacing/progressive settings possible in the BMIP input and on the camera too.
I precise that the same setup is working very well with DV input from the same camera (the purpose is to change for a non-DV camera with BMIP).
Is there somebody who faced that and solved it ?

  • How to use F4V Files with Premiere 5.5

    Hey all,
I work at a small company that does live streaming of video. We are experimenting with new HD cameras and have found that our best results for streaming has been to use h.264. We are having fantastic results with this, however, Using Flash Meda Live Encoder the end result is an .f4v file. I don't have much experience with this variation of .flv, but I'm honestly finding it quite useless.
I understand that you don't typically edit this type of file, that it is in a sense working backwards. However, our situation is that our streaming quality is highest when we use this format. Obviously, I am unable to get this file into premiere to edit it. I'm actualy unable to play it virtually anywhere as well (moyea converter, moyea flv player, vlc...nothing plays it).
Does anyone have any suggestions as far as where to go from here? I know there is probably a lot more info required for anyone to give me some feedback, so let me know what you need to know about our equipment/settings and I'll supply it.
    Thanks for the help!

@Jim Unfortuntaley, it's not practical for us to encode two files, one streaming and one capturing in a different format.
I do appreciate the help though.
@John That program looks cool, however that doesn't help either because we stream LIVE video. So I need to be encoding through FMLE or WME if I'm doing a windows file.
I actually had some progress using the adobe f4v post processor. I was able to convert the file into another f4v file that was able to import into Premiere. However, once I import it, I get no audio on my file. When I play the file, there is audio, but again when I import it into Premiere, no audio at all.
This seems to be a common problem and a potential bug. But if anyone has any further input, im VERY close to having success if I can only get my audio in there. (I do know I could get the audio into premiere by itself, but I'm trying to create a workflow that I can bring to my boss. He won't be a big fan of having many steps to get everything into Adobe)
