F9 update cannot be installed, make sure no other copy of ff running

i have tried 4 times to complete the upload & keep getting the same answer.
i also tried to update to ff10.but was told file could not be located.
i also find that ff9 is quite slow to load, sometimes taking 30/40 seconds to load

You may have to disable ZoneAlarm ForceField to be able to install Firefox.
If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then disable Virtualization and reinstall Firefox.
Other security software may have similar features to prevent Firefox from updating files properly.

  • On starting FF, get error 'the update cld nt be installed.Make sure no other copies running' even from cold. Have reset but still persists.

On starting Firefox (Windows 7), even from a cold boot I get a dialogue box with the message 'The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer and then restart Firefox to try again'
I have checked task manager and there are no other copies.
I have downloaded the latest version 29 Firefox but the error persists.
I have reset Firefox to default state but the error still persists.
    Help please!

There are a few old methods for troubleshooting this but no longer maintained:

Sometimes there are other programs that might be preventing the update, as well as a need for a clean reinstall. However it is odd that this has happened two versions in a row. Does your firewall or antivirus allow updates to Firefox? [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls]
If you restart the computer does the error message still happen when you try to update from the About Firefox page?

  • Update could not be installed pls make sure no other copies running

I have version Firefox 10.0 and it is trying to update to 10.0.01 but msg states update could not be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FF are running. I had this problem before V10 was updated and re-installed FF at that time. Why does this continue to happen. I tried restarting and Run as admin but nothing works.

    Hi,
Please try deleting the '''parent.lock''' file in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder]. You can also open this folder via Firefox '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Open Containing Folder''', and exit Firefox.

  • FF downloaded some update and now I get error message saying update cannot be installed until I get rid of extra FF copies on computer-but I DON"T have any extra copies. I cannot even uninstall the only FF I now have!

I have a Toshiba laptop, Windows & Home Premium Edition operating system. I had FF 3.6.3 installed and up until 6:00 today it was sort of working properly. I find out later that my huasband cannot even open the browser, as every time he does, a dialog box opens up whcih says "UPdate cannot be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FF are running on computer, then restart FF to try again." But I do not have any other copies of FF. I really do not like it when FF auto installs stuff without my permission. Many times this stuff is downloaded and installed, only to raise havoc with my computer.

    Try a smc reset:

  • Firefox will updage. I get this message: Something is preventing firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version

I get this error message: Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox. I have uninstalled and re-installed. It did not work. Support tells me to click on Firefox at the top. I have no word at the top which says Firefox. I have the Firefox icon.

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0 : The JUnit Integration update cannot be installed

    Hi.
When trying to install "JUnit Integration 11.1.2.1.38.60.81" I got this message:
"The JUnit Integration update cannot be installed because it has a required licence agreement that could not be read. Click Back to remove this update."
I want to install from a local file junit_bundle.zip.
    Thanks for help
    Stefan Pongratz

Stefan, I guess you have to have an internet connection if you want to install it from the local junit_bundle.zip. During the install it loads the licence from the web. If it can't access the file you get the error you see.
You can try to download the licence into the same directory where you have stored the bundle, but I'm not sure jdev looks for it there.

  • An amount of software-updates cannot be installed due to an unexpected error?

After downloading Software-updates, an amount of software-updates cannot be installed due to an unexpected error.
Is there someone who had the same problem and can help me?
Thanks in advance for your support!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Why do I get update cannot be installed everytime I start FF version 9.01

When I start up PC and then open FireFox version 9.01 I get following message: "Update could not be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FireFox are running and restart"
No other version are running. It works fine on my wife's laptop and updated automatically. this happens whenever I use the browser or try to go to another site. I saw log and it says exactly what I just said. I am assuming this is latest version already but I can't stop the error message. Any suggestions. I would like to reinstall but wonder if I would lose everything already set?????

Firefox may still be open in the background. The easiest way to fix this is to simply reboot, which will make sure Firefox is completely closed.
The other option is to open Task Manager (Control-Alt-Delete), click the Processes tab, and highlight any Firefox.exe you see listed and clicking the End Process button.

I just downloaded the newest update for mountain lion. After downloading any restarting for installation, I got a message stating that the update cannot be installed due to an error. Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version 6.0.3, which the update was for.  Does this mean that the update is iinstalled and the message was incorrect?

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.

  • Java update cannot be installed..

I'm having a problem and can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue. Hopefully, someone can point out what the problem is.
I'm trying to silent install jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe with instructions I found here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html
In my batch file I'm using the following syntax:
    Start /w C:\Drivers\Software\Java\jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 NETSCAPE6=1 MOZILLA=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 WEBSTARTICON=0"During the install process I receive this error:
Java update cannot be installed on this machine because the directory you have chosen to install is locked.
Please close and browser or application that is using the directory you have chosen for installation. If I hit the 'RETRY' button it continues installation just fine. Any ideas what is causing this error?
As a long shot I removed the JAVAUPDATE=0 but, it still had the same problem.
    TIA
    -Kirk

I got the same problem when I was just doing a regular install. After struggling for a few days and following the idea that something else must be using an older JVM, I tried this:
I closed all the non-native windows applications. Some of these were running in the background. The culprit was Google desktop search!!
Once I closed google (by right clicking the icon and exit-ing), the Java installation process went smoothly.
I think this concept would work for you. It is either google desktop or some other application that is running in the background that is using an older JVM.

  • Java Update Cannot be installed, directory locked

When attempting to install J2SE SDK 1.5.0 on my WINNT4 SP6a sustem,
it appears to almost complete, and then, when Finishing Installation, shows
a Retry/Cancel window saying, "Java Update cannot be installed on this machine
because the directory your have chosen is locked. Please close any browsers or
applications that are using the directory you chose for installation", or words very
close to those quoted. Nothing else is running. I rebooted the machine prior to
    beginning the install.

I too have the same error after an systray auto update came up and I said yes to install v5.0 or something, and said the above locked message, I closed all apps, and pressed retry, didn't install.
I am running winxp with ALL latest windowsupdate patches.
At least microsoft installers don't have any weird problems like this, and I now dont know how to reinstall it, because it appeared from my system tray as an update notification.
