Face recognition and Optimus technology for T410 questions-plz support

Hi guys, I bought a T410 with NVS 310 graphic card and integrated webcam. Though the 9 cell battery works really well, I still love to save more power by using the integrated Intel graphic card in light load. This is supposed to be done by using NVIDIA Optimus but I cant' find it anywhere or how to activate it. Some said it depends on the drivers and I haven't try that yet. Plz help for longer time.
The next question is the face recognition software, as my friend's Asus laptop, it has Smartlogon using face. I really love to do it on my T but I searched so many places and still can't find this. I knew there used to be VeriFace which seems to be stopped developing for Thinkpad. So anyone has that software, plz give me the link.
And I once found an issue with a device called Lexmark X422, window 7 reports that it can't start (code 10), I try the new driver and still no use. I disable (uninstall) it then restore the whole system and now I can't find it in device manager to try to fix it again. My question is what is this device and how to fix those problems?
Thank you very much, T rocks!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
For Optimus, have a look:- http://support.lenovo.com/hk/en/HintsandTips/hints_show_12832190176531.html
Lexmark X422 was probably your webcam, there is no need to do anything about it if the camera is working fine now.
Not sure about face recognition, as far as I know there is no such feature for ThinkPads.
Hope this helps.

  • "Java and BAPI Technology for SAP" by by Ken Kroes - Is this book useful?

    Howdy partners,
I've got a 'book' called "Java and BAPI Technology for SAP" by by Ken Kroes, Anil Thakur, Gareth M. deBruyn, Robert Lyfareff.
Now, does anyone know if the info in this book is still relevant to the modern SAP world? I mean its still talking about ITS and stuff like that?
    Any input will be appreciated.

With the blue cover? I have one with the something similar title, but it's quite out of date. There was lot of improvement on the Java side.
So I would prefer something newer from SAP-PRESS. Check the SAP-PRESS site.
BTW I don't consider ITS as an old technology...it was just integrated recently into WAS 640 to make it more powerful. This is the only available technology, which converts classic Dynpro to Webpage dynamically.

  • Aperture 3 - Face recognition and IPTC

I just upgrade my library from AP2 to AP3 and I was trying to use the face recognition feature.
I've got 2 questions regarding this feature:
1- Is anybody know if AP write the names enter with the face function in an IPTC field or if this info is proprietary to AP?
2- In AP2 I used to write the name of the people in the KeyWord IPTC field. Can we copy automatically (with a script for example) the values of the KeyWord field in the "face" field?
Re-writting all the names on all the pictures of my library will be very painful, so I try to find a fast way to do it. If any of you already found a way to do it, it will be very helpful.
    Thanks

    right questions
I am also searching for a solution to:
    - write the locations to the IPTC-fields
    - write the "faces" to IPTC-keywords

  • Face Recognition and Detection

I did quite a bit of research on the topic and found several ways of face recognition:
-eigenface which is basically an average face from several photos and then faces are compared to it
problem is that the pictures must all be just of the face, be black and white (color is harder) and have same lighting
this is impossible in the real world
The way I was thinking is to find the coordinates of the eyes and nose, and based on the distance from eye to eye, and R eye to nose, L eye to nose base my recognition (those values should be unique for each face)
I found this thing called opencv which was made by intel, and apparently using haarcascades a lot of people have succesfully been finding the coordinates of eyes and nose in images (images that are of people, not just an ideal photo of a face)
The problem is that opencv is written in C, so to use it (the rest of my app is in java), I would have to use JNI or something similar.
Can anyone help me out with that? Or maybe there is a way to do it purely in java?
Thanks a lot for your help

If you want to integrate a C/C++ application from JNI into Java this may be helpful :

  • Face recognition and places

wouldn’t be nice if also aperture could do also “face recognition” + “place” . some features are useless for professional business but some could make my work easier.

    Hi schalliol,
I am not disagreeing with you - and I will use these features too and really look forward to Aperture 3.0 or whatever comes next as much as anyone. I just meant that we need to be realistic about the capabilities of face recognition in a "pro environment" - i.e. you wouldn't want the grandma to be identified as the bride, just because she wore similar glasses and her haircolour happened to match the bride's on the day... All I am saying is that it is not difficult to quickly tag people with keyword bar presets "manually" - if a face detection helps here by doing the "obvious" ones by itself - awesome - but it needs to be configurable so that a group shot or a difficult one (smaller "head" in the picture/background people) are not mis-matched etc.
Note: I have not yet played with iPhoto09 so I should probably not write all these speculative things anyways and just await the final product, I rest assured the Aperture team is aware of all these things and will come out with some really nice new features.
My second point was that many of us are waiting for slightly more critical things - i.e. selective editing, better sharpening & smoothing, non-destructive effects/filters etc. - whereas the face-recognition is a "nice to have" thing rather than a make or break - as it can obviously be accomplished by keywording in the traditional way already - manipulating an area of an image with Capture NX's or Nik's Viveza precision is still not possible by contrast, at least not in an Aperture-only and non-destructive way (technically it is non-destructive to your original image of course, but every change takes up space by creating a "full image" copy.
It will all come to us eventually - they sure got the resources to create world-class products.

  • Need to understand basics of Oracle RAC and Grid technology, for training

I need to understand Oracle RAC and Grid infrastructure, from a manager's / training perspective.
I see links here and here, so a couple questions:
    - what's the basic difference from a layman's (e.g., a manager's) perspective ?
    - What training options are available for a generic 11g DBA to learn this new technology ? I've seen this course from an Oracle partner ("Course:Oracle 11g: RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration Accelerated Release 2"), for a boat load of money, for 5 days I think. So we're looking for something a little more reasonable (and accessible), e.g., books, online, etc.

For a very basic definition, RAC is technology that is used by the database and GI is the infrastructure that makes RAC work. In a forum reply, that's probably all what can be said about both. For a very lengthy answer, you should read the links that you have quoted.
For #2, the course that you are looking at is called Accelerated as it combines two courses in a single week training-RAC(4) and GI(3). So it's a 7 day curriculum that one would be doing in a 5 day course and that should justify its cost. But let me say, it's a really really good course. But on the other side, it can be quite overwhelming for someone who doesn't know about these technologies already. So I shall suggest that you send your team to each course individually and probably after doing some homework . They can start reading the following books,
Pro Oracle Database 11g RAC on Linux

    And this doc link,

  • How do I set up an email for face time and Game Center for my child's ipod

How do I set up an email account for my sons iPod so he can do face time and Game Center with friends?

I would create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. You have to do it in your mane if he is not yet 13.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Then use that account for Settings>FaceTime and Gamecent
If yo want it can also be used for:
    - Settings>Messages>Send and receive to allow him to Message
    - Settings>iCloud to allow him to have his own calendar and contacts
Continue to use the common ID for Setting>iTunes and App Stores

  • PSE 8 Face Recognition and PSE5 "People" Tags

I have a lot of photos tagged in Windows PSE5  Organizer.  I have recently upgraded to PSE8 and need to think about how to align the two.
A simpliifed example: In my current catalog, I have two tags upder the tag category "People": Bert and Ernie.  Over the years, I have tagged pitures with both Bert and Ernie with both tags.   When I do a search on "Bert" I find pictures with just Bert and pictures with both Bert and Ernie.   This has been satisfactory.
Now PSE8 is finding Bert's face and asking me "Who is this?" or "Is this Bert?"  It creates brand new "Bert" tags.  (And oddly, they are in a different namespace than my old Bert tags since I don't get a "duplicate tag name" message.)
How should I align my old tags wtih the new?
    * Should I only drag the new "Bert" tag on those pictures with only Bert in them?
    * Or can I drag the new Bert tag on pictures with both Bert and Ernie?
I don't understand the technology well enough yet to know if it can get confused by the latter.

The Who Is This box is part of the new face-tagging in PSE 8.  When you invoke Find > Find People For Tagging, it will let you tag individual faces with People tags via the Who Is This box.  When a face is tagged, that tag can still be used like the old People tags -- you can assign it other pics, you can search for all pics that have the tag, etc.  But the Find People For Tagging command will also show the face associated with the tag.
For some people (including me), if you type the name of a pre-existing People tag exactly into the Who Is This Box, PSE will use it.  But some others have reported that PSE makes a new, duplicate tag in this case.  I don't know why.  (But it is clear that Adobe didn't really think through the issues of people with existing catalogs.)
The Find People For Tagging command creates its tags immediately under the People category.  You can merge the old tag with the new tag by selecting the old tag in the Keyword Tags pane, Edit > Select All, dragging the new tag (created by the Find People command) to those photos, and then deleting the old tag.   In the Keyword Tags pane, you can drag the new tag anyhere you want in the tag heirarchy.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
There isn't much that can be done at this point. If you did not set up the questions then I would be concerned that someone else has taken over your account. If there is a bank card in the account I would alert your bank.

  • Suggest me a technology for my application plz

I need to develop an application which will take input from a user a transaction bill, for all th stock trading he/she has done.
The bill consist of a List of purchases and a List of sales info.
I need to store these bills and also operate on them to find the opening balances and the closing balances.
The bills are generated for each day.
Can anybody suggest me a proper technology from the following :
    1) JDBC
    2) JavaBeans
    3) JDO - object persistence

Well thanks for the suggestion, but my application
does not have to do anything with the time at which
my scrips were bought. Its like, a person A has done
trading for the past whole year, thru a broker. The
broker has given him hard copies of each of the bills
(hundreds of them). The person A does not know much
about a computer and how to use it. So he gives this
job to a person B who understands accounts and the
computer very well. Now this person B takes the hard
copies of these bills and uses MS EXCEL to do his
work, which is tedious. So person B asked me to
generate this application which will just take the
bill info and generate opeening balance, closing and
all squaring off for previous purchases.
This is what the application is about.
Also i didn't get what you said about cache.
Thank you.Sounds error-prone, whether they enter the data in Excel or your app.
Too bad the broker couldn't send something electronically that they could upload to a database.
But Martin's point is correct - the three technologies you cite are just different ways to persist data to a relational database using Java.
I'd say that if you have to ask you should use the simplest one possible. (If you were knowledgable, you wouldn't have to ask.) Use JDBC.

  • I am the only one who wants face recognition in LR ?

first... i know where to request features and that this is not the right place.
the feature was requested a long time ago in this forum and also at the adobe feature suggestion website.
i really hoped that with LR 4 we will see face recognition.
and i think it´s a feature many LR user would love to see in lightroom... right?
i have tested a few programs and their face recognition a while ago.
picasa was a bit buggy but the actual face recognition and tagging capability is good. IDImager face recognition was not that accurate.
other apps i have tested... well not worth to mention.
i still found picase and idimage usefull and while face recognition was not perfect .... it was a great help.
please support this feature request if you like by voting here:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/face_recognition_in_lightroom
    THX!

This seems to be a heated topic wherever it's brought up.  Let me start by saying that I work in the software industry and totally understand the tradeoffs you have to make sometimes.  You don't have infinite resources...ever.  And I understand the sensitivity in this case because for folks who have used LR for a long time and are dependent on it to get their job done, they clearly want investment in features that they know they will use.  If you have used Lightroom for a while and have an established workflow, I can totally understand why face recognition would be useless.  And if it's useless, it's logical that you'd want investment in something that was...well...useful.
I, however, agree with the poster and believe that facial recognition is a pretty important feature for Lightroom.
I'd like to offer two perspectives.
The first is my personal perspective.  I would consider myself a casual user.  I'm a family guy.  I've got about 65k photos in my collection and they are all friends/family.  My organization scheme has been through 3-4 computers and multiple backup systems over the years.  It has been through a variety of different tools from some homegrown things to native Windows tools to Picasa.  Bottom line, I have a real mess.  Many duplicates due to funny sync strategies but being paranoid about losing photos.  Multiple folders because my wife is not so computer savvy and often makes multiple copies.  Very little organization.  We have a real mess.  I've known it for a while and have spent several months trying to find the right solution.  Picasa didn't scale for us.  IDImager was promising but they are going through some regrowth as they try to adapt to the Mac user community where it was only previously for Windows.  Lightroom was the only product I found that could come close to meeting all of my needs.  So now I have it in place.  I have all of my pictures imported into the catalog.  But I need to start tagging/organizing.  I want facial recognition to get me started...having to go through 65,000 and manually type keywords for each one is unreasonable.  For new photos I import I can do it piecemeal...no problem, and no facial regonition required.  Until I can get the existing photos into a searchable/maintainable state, however, I can't take full advantage of Lightroom.  While it may not be forever useful, it's crticial to new users getting started with the product.
The second is an industry perspective.  Adobe has clearly branded itself as the leader in image editing technology.  Heck, "photoshop" is now used as a verb in the average household for people who have never even used the product!  That's awesome marketing.  That's awesome brand presence.  You don't get to be a leader by saying yes to everything.  You have to selectively say no.  But in cases where you are falling behind from a technology perspective and leaving an obvious hole in your portfolio (especially while potential competition is buying up companies/IP to compete).
In my opinion, the "personal DAM" market is underserved today.  The digital age is causing even casual users to outgrow products like Picasa.  People are looking for something new.  While Lightroom is probably overkill for most of them (me included), it's one of the few products on the market that has a large support community and actually does have enough features to support all of the needs of the home.  While more expensive than most of the other home products, it's not out of reach even for the casual user.  Adobe has the potential to grow market share (actually, to even grow the market) if they target those needs and improve their "on ramp" for new users.  Besides face recognition, this is probably 80%+ a marketing issue and not one requiring product features.

  • Why does Face Recognition drop confirmed faces

I guess Face Recognition is not ready for prime time.  Sometimes after a face has been confirmed, it will just disappear.

    Hey nonnalg,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with AirPrint, specifically not being able to find the printer after a short amount of time. The following resource may provide a solution:
    About AirPrint - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201311
    For best results
Make sure your software is up to date. For iOS, verify that your device is using the latest version of iOS available and that the app you're printing from is up to date. For OS X, Use Software Update to update OS X and apps you've purchased from the Mac App Store.
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of an Apple AirPort Base Station or AirPort Time Capsule are not supported with AirPrint. Connect your AirPrint printer to your network using Wi-Fi, or connect it to a LAN port on your AirPort device using Ethernet.
Make sure that your AirPrint printer is connected to your network before attempting to print. Some AirPrint printers can take several minutes to join a network after being turned on.
    If you're unable to print
Check these things if you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found."
Make sure your printer has paper, and enough ink or toner installed.
Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
Make sure your printer has power and is turned on. Try turning your printer off and then back on again to see if it resolves your issue.
Check to see if your printer has any error lights or indicators displayed on the printer's control panel. Check the documentation that came with your printer to clear any errors displayed.
Check with your printer's manufacturer to see if any firmware updates are available for your printer. Check your printer's documentation or contact the printer vendor for more information. A firmware update may be available, even if you just bought your printer.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
