Face Recognition Problem in PSE 12

I am having a problem with face recognition with PSE 12/Windows 8.1. It is a new install, at first all went well. I could enter names and they were immediately accepted. As faces repeated recognition was working and I could click the green arrow and it would accept or even click the red x and make another selection as it should be. Then I started having problems when it would come up with the correct face I would click the green arrow and instead of accepting the box would go to "Who is This" and it would take numerous attempts to get the program to accept the name. Next I started having problems just entering names, again instead of accepting it would loop me through the "Who is This" numerous times. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem that you have been facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
Plug-in installation instructions:
1. Close Photoshop Elements
2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
• For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
• For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
Hope this helps!

  • Face Recognition problem...

I always get a failed logon when using the face recognition for my u405d-s2902 i set the security low already but still get failed.. can you give me some tips how this face recognition works? pls help thanks...

You will need webcam on computer and a software pkg: Not too secure, all I have read so far, can be fooled.
Extracted data: Freeware application BananaScreen adds face recognition login to your webcam-enabled Windows computer. To use, just install BananaScreen and create a face model. Then set up BananaScreen to lock after a predefined amount of inactivity (or hit Alt-L to lock at any time). Once locked, BananaScreen will keep an eye on faces coming and going in front of the camera. When it matches yours, it immediately unlocks your computer. NOT SECURE!

  • Aperture 3 Faces recognition problem

Have a really funky problem that is consuming hours to days of time in Faces.  Need serious help, or for Apple to recognize this as a bug.
When I select Faces, Confirm Faces for a person, it shows loads of faces completely not that persons face.  So when looking for faces of Kelly what Faces did do, was show the confirms of numerous faces as Duncan, or Jeff etc - the correct names for those faces.  So I thought 'Great!  Faces will assign all these faces to the correct names, making this a very quick its either Kelly, OR someone else it recognizes, OR reject as not Kelly or anyone else!'
WRONG. :-( When I hit confirm, the faces that should have been assigned to different people all ended up under Kelly !  So is this a bug on functionality that SHOULD work the way I expect by correctly assigning the faces, or is there something else i should be doing to assign the faces correctly ?
Have library of 20,000+ photos, so this is taking forever after upgrading form iphoto 11 (wish I hadnt now, unless there is a simple fix).
Even better - after selecting a number of Faces correctly, can Faces re-run across imported photos to correctly assign the faces ?

Although I haven't encountered this problem, please read the following thread and you may reconsider the built-in Facebook syncing:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2625405&tstart=100
Fortunately, it's easy enough to export photos from Aperture to a folder and upload manually, but a half-baked implementation shouldn't even be shown as a option.

  • People recognition problem on PSE 12

    Hi there
I've been having trouble getting the People recognition tool to work on Elements 12.
It picked up a load of different faces at first, but I still have thousands of photos left which the programme now refuses to pick up faces from - whenever I select photos (even in small batches) it comes up with a message saying "No new people found in your selection". However, when I click on the individual photos it still has the windows round the faces asking me who they are.
Any help to get the facial recognition tool working again would be much appreciated. I'd rather not have to go through each photo individually when batch tagging is so much quicker.
    Thanks

My symptoms are exactly the same as Shelly95133.  WIN7/ PE12 . .....\Catalogs\\BreezeData path does not exist but I do have 4 files that reference "breeze" : breeze_preprocess_config, BreezeDB.dll, breezepreprocess.dll and BreezeRecognition.dll. Add people refuses to identify faces but when I go into each photo it sees faces but won't give suggestions.  Please help. I have many more photos to tag!

  • Photoshop elements, Programm crash while the face recognition

I installes an update from PS elements 8.0 to 12.0. After I have converted the catalog, I startet PS elements 12. I saw my pictures for a second. Then the screen "Face recognition" occured. Then the Programm ist closed with an error. Can I deactivate the face recognition? Or better, solve the problem?

We just have the exact problem here. PSE 8 - Upgrade to PSE 12 - start 12, face recognition starts and PSE 12 closes/crashes.
Uninstalling and reinstalling PSE12 did not help. Turning of the recognition is not possible as PSE12 crashes before any settings could be done.

  • Face Recognition in picassa 3 is amazing, how good is PE 9

So i just downloaded picassa 3.  The facial recognition is amazing.  very fast, very easy.  I was happy that PE 8 has facial recognition, but it is not alway clear to me what i should do to optimize the facial recognition, and it is not as easy or fast.
Will PE 9 have better face recognition protocol.

well pse 9 is back with face recognition and this time with a better UI and faster algorithm. Also , if you have large number of faces , i would suggest you to enter the Label Many Persons workflow ,this can be done by selecting the desired images and clicking on Face button present in keyword panel.
Label a few faces and  then the algorithm will itself start showing you suggestions. Hope it clears

  • Satellite L505-12Q...having a problem with Face Recognition

    Hello!
I have a strange problem with my Face Recognition. Yesterday it worked perfectly, but today it doesn't. Note that I've cleaned registry with CCleaner, but didn't backup before that (stupid..).
I've downloaded the installation of Face Recognition from Toshiba's support and download site, but to install it you must uninstall the old program. OK, but at the and of the uninstallation comes an error, quote: "Error 1326.Error getting security: C:\ProgramData\TOSHIBA\SmartFaceV\ GetLastError:5".
Than the uninstallation rolls back and I receive another error, quote: "Error -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."

    Hi mate
As far as I know you can set the OS back to the early time point
Try to roll back the OS to the early point before you made all the changes
As far as I know the CCLeaner allows you to uninstall the installed applications as well. It cleans the faulty files too maybe you should clean it again before installing this application again
    It's definitly worth a try!!!

  • People recognition error in PSE 9 Organizer

I am new to PSE and PRE. I purchased version 9, installed and began importing my photos and videos. My library has 8566 entries. At first people recognition worked fine finding photos with faces and suggesting names as I entered them. Then it read "No unlabeled people found in your selection." I thought this was great because I had everyone tagged. I noticed as I looked through my photos that not everyone is tagged. Now I get boxes asking "Who is this?" and when I click the box I no longer get a suggestion. Also if I try to run people recognition it says "No unlabled people found in your selection." I get this message even after importing new photos that were just taken. PSE Organizer recognizes the face but still says no unlabled people. How can this be? Please help.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

I am also fighting the same problems.  Tried the suggestion by RDNelson #13 with No Success. Not impressed with ADOBE's response so far.  I have not tried the new catalog procedure yet because I do not want to get 90% finished and have it fail again.  Thank you to all that have responded and I wonder how many others are reading but not joining in?
Can you tell me what is happening after you tried my suggestions.  Are you still getting "No unlabled people found in your selection" when pressing the Start people recognition button?
I may have duplicated this issue.  I will ask that you investigate something else.  First, some background information...
Running face recognition makes an entry in the catalog.  In addition it creates a file for every photo which face recognition is run on.  This file is placed in the BreezeData directory under the catalog directory.  I was able to duplicate the issue where the propmt "No unlabled people found in your selection" by write protecting the BreezeData directory.
Possibly, there are issues with this directory on your system.  I just helped someone else who had directory permissions on the .dat files which caused other issues.  Possibly there are permission problems in this directory?  Or, could this directory contain too many files (NTFS volumes should allow for a very large amount of files)?
This is what I would like you to check...
    1) Check to make sure the security settings are set to "Full Control" on the BreezeData directory.
    a) Right click on the BreezeData directory from the Windows Explorer
    b) Click on the Security tab
    c) Click on the Advanced button
    d) Click on the Effective Permissions tab
    e) Click on "Select..."
    f) Type in the user name which is currently logged in or the user name you wish to check permissions on in the box "Enter the object name to select (examples):
    g) Press the "Ok" button.
    f) Review the checkboxes in the "Effective permissions" list to ensure there is a checkbox next to all items in the list.
If you don't have sufficent permissions, then add full control to the desired users.  You may want to verify that the catalog and all content under the catalog is set to Full Control.  Make sure to exit the Organizer and restart before you try face recognition again.
    2) If 1) does not indicate any problems, see if you can actually navigate to the BreezeData directory.
    a) How many files are in this directory?
    b) Can you open up any file?
    c) Can you create a temporary file such as a word document or even a text file with Notepad?
Note that the same thing happens for media-analysis except for a file is created in the CAXMPFiles directory for every photo analyzed.
I hope this helps.  I'm not sure I can help you beyond this and it would be best to contact Adobe directly to report this.

  • Catalog backup problems with PSE 11

    Hi,
I'm having terrible problems trying to backup my catalog to an external hard drive.
My PC is running Windows 7 with 8 GB of internal memory. My external hard drive is formatted to FAT 32 and has 130GB of spare capacity. My catalog is 45GB.
I have previously backed up the the catalog without any problems but can't remember if I did this before I upgraded to PSE 11.
I initially tried doing a full backup but got an error part way through writing the 'breeze' data. Having read that the breeze data was only used for face recognition, I deleted the remaining breeze data files and tried again.
I then encountered a problem when writing some of my early .jpg files. I couldn't see any obvious problem with these but tried removing them and runnning the back up again.
This time it got a bit further but hung up on some .mpg files.
I removed all video files and tried again.
This time it got up to over 60% complete but it then hung up on some early files which had a 'description' 2002 rather than a straight date name to the file. I thought that there might be a problem with file names including ' 's ', so removed these and tried again.
I then tried running Catalog 'optimize' and 'repair' (I didn't tick 'the re-index visual similarity data').
I eventually got up to over 65% complete but couldn't get the backup to go past my 2007 files no matter what files I removed.
I then tried doing an incremental backup using a Catalog file that I had created in 2011. This backup failed with 'an error encountered while writing.....WaldoData\waldo.cache'
I now don't know what to try! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, looking at the backup Catalog files that I have previously created, it appears that only the first contains all the images from whole catalog with an equal number of .xml files.
Two others which I created (which I can't remember were full or incremental backups) only have some of the images. I'm sure that this can't be right.
I presume that for an intial backup the .xml files should run from B0000001 to Bnnnnnnn; the .jpg/.mpg/ etc from Bnnnnnnn+1 to B 2(nnnnnnn) and that when one runs an incremental back up the new .xml files are added from B2(nnnnnnn)+1 to B2(nnnnnnnn)+(mmmm) and the image files continuing for a further (mmmm). Is this correct?
Otherwise what should one be seeing?
    Regards
    Mike

Thank you for your information about my problem with PSE 11. I have since tried the programme on 2 different computers and it works fine. Seems like the problem is with my computer although my old PSE 10 works okay. I'd appreciate any ideas about what could be wrong with my computer to cause my photos to break up into various segments which don't join together particularly when I move them into 'before and after horizontal' or '......vertical' and even when zooming them. • LRCC Face recognition - best practices?

Ok so we are all new to the wonderful world of face recognition in LR.  I'm trying to work out what would be the best practices for using this.
A little bit of background - I have a catalog of over 200,000 images.  In addition to portrait and wedding clients, a significant part of my work is with models and another significant part of my work is theatre photography.  I have be wanting some sort of face recognition to help with both for some time.
What are your namining conventions for people? - here's mine:
Ideally I would label people as "surname, firstname" so that I can keep members of a family together in "named people" display, but commas are not allowed in names.  Also the professional name of many models doesn't fit that pattern eg "Strawberry Venom" or "Cute as Sin" are to models I have worked with.
I am trying to come up with a sensible naming convention at the moment it is "Surname/ Firstname" for clients, theatre folk and friends/family.  Models are still a problem, at present I am thinking of "Surname/ Firstname (model name(s))"  While I may not be able to remember the real names of models, I do usually know the names from model releases.  This naming will still permit me to filter/find them in the keyword List panel by just entering the model name.
On final addition I am making to this this naming convention is the use of a hashtag suffix to the name:  #F for friends and family, #C for clients, #T for theatre/actors and #M for models.  This enables me to filter on just models, or just actors, or just friends and familiy.  Where people fall into multiple categories I add multiple hashtags.  So photos of me would be keyworded with "Butterfield/ Ian #F #T"
    Unknown / unidentified people.
What I am not yet certain about is how to handle unknown / unidentified people.  Unidentified people fall into a number of different categories.
People I don't know and I am never likely to know (Eg random strangers on the street, local tour guides on holiday, random people in the background etc)
This group is relatively easy to deal with - that is to simply delete the face recognition, End of story.
People I don't know the names of yet but I am likely to find out (Eg actors in a production for which I don't have a programme)
For these people I am making up a unique name using the format "date/ Context-Gendernn" Eg an unknown male actor at Stockport Garrick Theatre would be named as "20150313/ SGT-M01"  Although this may appear a complex solution it has a number of advantages.  If/when I do learn the name of the individual (Eg I photograph them in a different production) it is simply a case of renaming the people keyword.  Creating a unique name and not simple assigning all unknowns to a bucket name will help the face recognition algorithms find this person without it being confused by have different faces assigned to the same name. I am also using the hashtage #U to make it easier to filter the unknown faces when I need to.
People I don't know the names of and there is only a slim possibility of meeting/photographing again (Eg guests as a client weeding)
It feels as though I out to just delete the face recognition and have done with it, and this is what I would do except for thing. Other than manually drawing face regions I have not yet found a way to get lightroom to rescan a folder for faces if you have previously deleted the face recognition.  This means that deleting face regions from a large number of people is something that cannot be easily reversed.  I might just leave these people in the "Unnamed People" category... at lease until such time as there is a way to rescan a folder or colectoin.
    Summary
My practices are still evolving. But I hope these thoughts and idea will help others think through the issues and come up with solutions that work for their situation.  I am interested in hearing how other people are using the face recognition system.  Especially if anyone is aware of any 'best practices' that Adobe or anyone else has recommended.

    Glad it helped.
Yes and no.  You can still put the people keywords into hierarchies within the keyword list - you can arrange them just like any other keywords.so you just create a "smith family" keyword and store "john smith" under it.  What you can't do is apply BOTH smith family and john smith the the same face.
My use of the hash tags came about because I initially had a top level keyword for models, one for clients, one for theatre peple and one for family and firends.  Then discovered that some of the theatre folk were also clients (headshots) and what to do when a friend is also a client.  So the hash tag system means a person can be both a friend, a model, an actor as well as being a client!  (#T #C #M #F).

  • BUG: Face recognition data not saved to images.

i have the option to automatically save XMP data into the images activated.
so all keywords and metadata changes are not only saved to the catalog but also into my DNG and TIFF images.
now this works fine for everything except the new face recognition data.
i mean the areas (rectangles) where the faces are.
i guess the problem is that the images already contain the keywords (names) of the persons in the images.
what i did was using the rectangles to identify the persons in the images. drawing rectangles around their faces and name them.
this info about the rectangle positions is NOT automatically stored in the image files. not after hours of letting LR run idle.
this info is only stored when i manually save (CTRL+S) the images or do something other to the metadata (like adding NEW keywords to it).
so in short:  just adding the face region data (the rectangles) will not trigger the automatic XMP save function when the name keyword was already asigned as keyword to the image.
that´s very bad and must considered a bug in my opinion..
i don´t like to rely on the LR catalog only. it´s unsave even with backups.
i want that the metadata info is stored in the images.
also when i give away my images i want that the metadata is in the images.
that´s why "automatically save XMP" is always active and very important for me.

I don't have any info but repost your original info at this site.  Supposedly Adobe reads this and it should not get lost in the clutter  I have posted a few bugs there and they were acknowledged but not fixed but Adobe seems to be pretty good at fixing potential data loss bugs/problems which I consider this to be if it is working as you describe.

  • IPhoto 09 face recognition

I would like to know if the iPhoto 09 face recognition feature is ON by default and can't be switched off even if we feel we don't need it.
The reason I ask is that, after a year of Leopard, I am really exasperated at this Spotlight regularly monopolizing 95% of processor time, uncontrollably trying to index the whole Universe, just in case I might want to search the contents of files, a feature that is ON by default and can't be switched off even if we feel we don't need such an overkill process.
Same with Time Machine, that starts archiving everytime an external drive is plugged in, unless we rush to the Time Machine System Preferences and navigate to the Confidential tab to kill the already running indiscretion.
I just hope that iPhoto 09 didn't join this recent un-Apple philosophy that uncontrollably overworks processors and noisy fans, temporarily slowing the fastest computer in the World to the speed of my first Mac SE, just because it decides you're an idiot that might not know its own needs.
    Sorry about that !
I just had to let it out ...
    PP

iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
If you find that Spotlight is “regularly monopolizing 95% of processor time“ then you have a problem with Spotlight. This is not how i works on nay of my machines. Perhaps you need to troubleshoot that.
I was able to turn off Time machine with no difficulty. Perhaps you need to read the help.
The faces feature use a one time scan of the iPhoto Library when you first launch 09. Thereafter it does nothing at all unless you use it.

  • Strange UI bug when using People view/face recognition

I've started playing with the face recognition in LR6/CC and have encountered an odd display bug when viewing the groups of 'named people':
The thumbnail for each named person includes a count of how many images (or perhaps that should be faces) are attributed to their specific name. However, once the number of images for a person exceeds 100, LR only displays the first two digits in the thumbnail and drops off the third one, e.g. 254 is displayed as 25. If you hover over the thumbnail, the full count (e.g. 254) is displayed so long as the mouse cursor is kept on the thumbnail. Interestingly, once the number of images attributed to a named person exceeds 1000, it does the same thing, only it adds an extra digit (so 1400 becomes 140).
    I'm running this on Win7.
    Anyone else seeing this?

I guess I was primarily "testing the water" to see if the problem was specific to my configuration in some way, but you make a fair point John.
