Face Time: blue star vs. camera in contacts????

I have an iPad2 and a MacBook Pro. Both with the latests systems (iPad 6.1.3, MacBook Mountain Lion). When I Facetime my daughter's iPod, there's a blue camera with a star in it next to her name, Messagin and Facetime work with her iPod (different Apple ID and different email) but:
When I Facetime between my own two devices, I just get a blue star and neither device connects to the other, or the iPad calls the MacBook, but I can't answer the video call.
Each device has the same Apple ID, but different emails associated with them. (as I've already read to be sure to do)
Message WORKS; Facetime DOES NOT.

If the problem remains, you may have wi-fi network problems. Both of your should try again when you are on the same wi-fi connection. If it does not work at your location, try his home, or even a library or store that has an open wi-fi. If you can make it work at one location, look for Wi-Fi network issues at the location where you cannot connect.

Face Time for mac does not show contacts window or allow me to sign in

My Facetime for Mac launches but does not show me my Contacts sidebar or allow me to 'Sign In'. Preferences is grayed out as well.
It works under a new user account (System Preferences > Accounts). I added a contact into the blank address book to test it out. I'm troubleshooting it right now to get it to work under my account, I think it has something to do with not fully accessing the keychain.
The tell-tell sign for me is when I launch FaceTime for Mac the preview window does not show immediately. I have to click on the app a second time for the window to appear. This does not happen under the new account
I have already:
- Restarted
- Removed preferences and Caches
- Re-installed Face Time
- Repaired and reset keychains
- Signed in under a different MobileMe account in System Preferences
Any other suggestions

SOLVED !!
After many, many more steps and close to total ruin of my MobileMe sync structure, I have the found the hidden files to remove that solved my problem.
~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist temp
~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist .6Va7JFn [+these letters may be than different yours+]
Logged out, then back in again
When I launched Facetime it worked exactly as it does on my test user account.
here are the terminal commands to try for your solution
cd ~/Library/Preferences/
ls -A [+To get the letters for the third file+]
rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ temp
rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ .[+your letters+]
Please Post any problems you run into or if it doesn't work.

HT1766 I loaded the software fix for face time and it wiped out my contacts and photos. can I restore them?

I loaded the software fix for face time and in loading the new software I lost all of my other content (WITHOUT ANY WARNING). This included my contacts, photos, music. The music I can restore and losing the contacts is an inconvenience, but losing the photos is devastating.
Any ideas?

What software fix for FaceTime? What software did you apply?
Did you backup your iPhone before you updated it with whatever update you applied as described in HT1766? If so, did you backup to iCloud or iTunes? Either way your data should be restorable from that backup.

Having issues with face time and messages to connect with people overseas

I seem to have issues with contacting two people who live overseas. I was recently visiting that country and while there had no problems contacting them. Also while en route in /Seoul airport was still able to contact them but when arriving back in -Australia , am no longer able to send or receive messages from them or calls on face time. Similar issues with these contact on viber and talk box. Any ideas?

I don't have Face time

i bought my iPhone 4 from Dubai but i'm not there now. and when i updated to IOS 5, i don't have Face time in my setting menu and contact and whenever

FaceTime is not allowed by the UAE government so it is blocked by the serial number - and as it's blocked by the serial number there is no way to install it (including via iOS updates).

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. I have a hard time understanding why I can't contact support about THEIR problem. I plugged my iPhone into my pc. iTunes came up. It said there was an update available for the phone. I accepted that. Clicked on the "download only" because I didn't have the time to install it at that point. It downloaded but didn't stop. It continued to the 'backing up your iPhone' segment then froze. I waited at least an hour with no change. Finally I unplugged my phone..iTunes wasn't responding.I rebooted my pc then tried the same thing again. Same outcome even though I let it "Back Up" for 7-8 hrs while I slept. Same Story............... iTunes 10.4.0.80 is the software I'm using. When my phone is 'plugged' in what I see on it's face is "Sync in Progress".....for hours!

Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
1. See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
2. See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
4. Reset SMC or PMU

My face time camera won't work

When I click on my camera and I try to switch to my face time camera it shows like it's going to switch but then the camera just goes back and I can't switch it to the other camera for a while. It's been like this for a while and I don't know what to do about it. I'm not sure what make it happen either. There is no crack in it or anything. One day I just tried to switch it to that camera and it just did the thing where it looks like it's switching but makes the camera screen black.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

This made me smile, because things like this do make me smile... I never make videos on YouCam, but I did this time, so I could test this one out.
You did not say what webcam software you are using...

Make sure you have turned on a working microphone in Settings:
YouCam > Right-Side Settings >
Right-Side, Lower-Right, Select a working Microphone from the Drop down list
AND
CHECK "Capture with audio"

You can also buy (for $38 US) YouCam 5.0 from the Cyberlink.com website and it has audio/video and all sorts of other goodies, too. (They have 3.x as well, but why buy what HP already gives you?)

Because something is wrong.
You will need to troubleshoot to find out what needs to be fixed.
One of these suggestions may resolve your trouble.
FaceTime (and other video) quality problems can be caused by problems at either end of the connection. Unless your video callers' FaceTime connections work properly with everyone else but you, both parities to the video call should consider these possibilities.
(1) Restart your iPad and test again. Sometimes a simple restart fixes things.
(2) Use a fast broadband internet connection for best possible FaceTime video.
Broadband speed matters at BOTH ends, so you use something like http://speedtest.net/ to test both ends of your video connections.
Speeds less than 300 Kbps (up and down) at both ends are unlikely to give best results.
(3) Try from a different wi-fi connection.
If the problem is ONLY at your current location, restarting your internet connection may help. Shut down your iPad or turn Airplane Mode "on". Then check your cable connections, restart your modem and wireless access point, reconnect iPad to the wi-fi, and test again.
If the problem remains but ONLY at your current location, there may be a problem with your internet service. Contact your ISP for help.
(4) Always use as much light as possible for best images (including video) from your iPad.
