Face time camera observation

Take a picture of yourself using the face time camera and compare it to the live image you see prior to the picture. The live view acts like a mirror - image flipped horizontally.
And no, there is no question here, just an observation.

That's hard to explain but I would check Settings>General>Restrictions>FaceTime (and camera) and see if they are set to "off". If they are set to off, turn them on again.

  • My face time camera won't work

When I click on my camera and I try to switch to my face time camera it shows like it's going to switch but then the camera just goes back and I can't switch it to the other camera for a while. It's been like this for a while and I don't know what to do about it. I'm not sure what make it happen either. There is no crack in it or anything. One day I just tried to switch it to that camera and it just did the thing where it looks like it's switching but makes the camera screen black.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Because something is wrong.
You will need to troubleshoot to find out what needs to be fixed.
One of these suggestions may resolve your trouble.
FaceTime (and other video) quality problems can be caused by problems at either end of the connection.  Unless your video callers' FaceTime connections work properly with everyone else but you, both parities to the video call should consider these possibilities.
    (1) Restart your iPad and test again. Sometimes a simple restart fixes things.
    (2) Use a fast broadband internet connection for best possible FaceTime video.
Broadband speed matters at BOTH ends, so you use something like http://speedtest.net/ to test both ends of your video connections.
Speeds less than 300 Kbps (up and down) at both ends are unlikely to give best results.
    (3) Try from a different wi-fi connection.
If the problem is ONLY at your current location, restarting your internet connection may help.  Shut down your iPad or turn Airplane Mode "on".  Then check your cable connections, restart your modem and wireless access point, reconnect iPad to the wi-fi, and test again.
If the problem remains but ONLY at your current location, there may be a problem with your internet service.  Contact your ISP for help.
    (4) Always use as much light as possible for best images (including video) from your iPad.

  • Face Time Camera resolution

Suffereing from lousy UK infrastructure typically 300kbps upload speeds, and the HD camera on Macbook pro is just too good, resulting in delays of 30 seconds between sound and video in Face Time. Is there any way to downgrade the resolution or frame rate on facetime or on the camera to give the old BT lines a chance to keep up?

  • Face Time Camera Freezes

My wife and I received our new phones today. When we tried using the Face Time, the front camera (the one that is next to the earpeice) worked fine, but when I switched to the rear camera, the image that was displaying on her screen froze. In the little window on my screen, I saw what the rear camera was seeing, but it just wasn't transferring to my wife's phone. When she switched her phone to the rear camera, the image showed up on my phone fine.
I have verified that my rear camera on the phone works, I can take pictures with it and I can take videos with it. It just doesn't work on Face Time.
    Any ideas?
Cliff notes: If I switch my phone to the rear camera for face time, the video isn't transferred to my wife's phone.

My issue has been resolved. On my wife's phone (my image would freeze on her screen when I switched to rear camera)
    1. Select Settings
    2. Select Phone
    3. Turn Face Time off
    4. Turn Face time on
At this point, her phone said, "Waiting for activation" under the Face Time switch though it may have said it after step 2, I didn't pay attention to it.
    5. Reboot phone
After starting up, face time worked. I did turn Face Time off and back on again on my phone, but I'm not sure if that did anything to help out.

  • Face time camera turns on upon log in

Face time is off yet camera comes on at log in for all users.

Have you tried Control clicking Facetime, going to options, and unchecking Open at Login?

  • Can I use Skype with a macbook air and the face time camera

I am an Imac user and learning this new macbook air. I have face time on this and am wondering if I can use skype with the facetime camera of if I need to add a remote web cam? I am not seeing the video function in skype.

I've used mine a few times within Skype. No issues.
The FT camera is suitable for any application requiring a camera, notwithstanding the "not so hot" resolution of the built-in camera on the MBA.
Check the Audio/Video tab within Skype Preferences to select the built-in camera.

  • Face Time Camera issue

    Hello, just a small problem.
My friend just bought an ipad 2 and has just set up FaceTime.
However when I try to call him there is a blue star next to his email address rather then a camera.
When I call it just rings from my side and not on his.
When he clicks on my email address nothing at all happens.
    Thanks all.

    See troubleshooting here:  http://www.apple.com/support/mac/facetime/
If the problem remains, you may have wi-fi network problems.  Both of your should try again when you are on the same wi-fi connection.  If it does not work at your location, try his home, or even a library or store that has an open wi-fi.  If you can make it work at one location, look for Wi-Fi network issues at the location where you cannot connect.

  • Face Time & Camera deleted

The apps for FaceTime & the camera have been removed. Also, the laptop that held all my iTunes stuff on it crashed. I tried to restore the apps on my Touch from another pc, but still can not get these 2 apps back. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Pls disregard my post. I figured it out. Even the Geek Squad at Best Buy could not fixed it, but I did!

  • How do I call a Mac computer with Face Time from my iPhone 4?

I just upgraded my iMac to OS X Lion and I now have Face Time on my desktop computer. I figured out how to MAKE a call from my desktop to someone's iPhone. But, I can't figure out how to call my desktop computer FROM my iPhone 4? I tapped the phone icon. Then, selected my house from my contact list. When I selected my home e-mail address, it just loaded a blank e-mail. There was no option to call that e-mail address with Face Time. Help? Oh, and I'm running iOS 4.2.10 on my Verizon iPhone 4, so I know I have the required version on my phone.
Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Oh, and by the way, I also just tried calling my iPhone 4 from my iMac with Face Time and my iPhone didn't even ring. Also, I've read through posts in other forums and everyone is talking about a Face Time camera icon that appears next to a contact's name. I don't have that at all. So, maybe I don't actually have the right versions of the software?

  • Import video via firewire not allowed by Face Time

I am trying to import video to my harddrive via firewire. Every time I open iMovie and click on the video camera icon the only device seen is the Face Time camera. There's a little drop down window but it only has Face Time as the option not my Sony DCR VX1000 video camera which is turned on to VCR mode to allow exporting of video content. Is there some way to get my camera recognized by the macbook or at least to disable Fact Time?

You might contact Sony for some technical assistance.  In the past they have not been Mac friendly.
    Ciao.

  • Why my macbook air camera not working? Neither Photo Booth nor Face time.

I have not been able to use Face Time, Photo Booth and Skype as the camera of my Macbook air is not responding? Any solution guys? Will appreciate the answers from the people who have experienced this problem and have solved it successfully.

I had this same problem, and the way i have resolved it was by doing a back up for the Time Machine. Hadn't done that in 190 days and after I did it my camera work after a sleep for the first time in months.
