Face time for 2008 iMac

Our iMac at home (purchased in Q2 2008) uses "Mac OS X 10.5.8".  The software update button has been pressed and it says there is no updates available for our iMac.
When I am away from home I want to see/talk to my family with my Macbook Pro.  My MacBook Pro is brand new (April 2011) and has face time already installed and ready to use.
How do we update our iMac at home to the latest software version supported for face time?

did Yamaha/Apogee ever work out the problem that you couldn't use mLAN drivers for the XS (it's not really mLAN, it's "based on" right?) and Apogee drivers at the same time?
I think Yamaha has updated their drivers twice since you and I last exchanged ideas on this.
You've got killer hardware, and while I'm sure it's possible to set up an XS to send MTC and for Logic 8 to deal with correctly, it's just backwards of the way I use (almost) the same tools. My experience is the same, control Logic from the Motif, only it's so much more than just stop/start, and locate. Your XS is made to be a remote controller for Logic, sliders, transport controls, even the info for tracks and plug-ins (in Logic!) show up on your XS display and you can do plenty without touching the keyboard or mouse... Besides the sound of the Motifs, they're just great at doing this kind of stuff too... I personally wouldn't consider anything else...
I don't want to send you down a path that won't work if the two vendors in question haven't solved this yet, but... I want to help you but deep inside I think you're approaching your top-of-the-line gear backwards...
of course, if this is still a vendor incompatibility thing... then you have no choice.
pages 839 (the graphic is on page 838) of the Logic user manual under "listen to MMC input" describes what you need to set in Logic 8 to make this work. Since I don't have an XS, I can't point you to the correct pages for that.
I really hope you can get this to work.

Can I use Face Time on my iMac?
    I have a 17" core duo.
It seems to be having difficulty downloading.

Facetime requires at least OSX 10.6.6 Snow Leopard

Facetime should work well with what you have in mind.

  • How to download face time for my MacBook ?

how to download face time for my MacBook ?

    Hi,
Currently FaceTime for Mac is a 99¢ app and only available via "App Store" for Mac.  Make sure you have the latest Mac OS installed (10.6.7), and launch App Store from your dock (you can also access it by clicking on  and choose "App Store...")  you can then purchase it through there.

  • I tried to sign in to activate face time for 1st time, w/correct apple ID

We have tried to activate our face time account for two days now, and have been unsuccessful. The Apple ID and the password are both correct. We have checked using the iPad, and were able to sign in and use it. The iMac says "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." We are able to use Safari, browse, and check email, and all lights on router seem to be okay. Can anyone give us a suggestion as to what we are doing wrong? We cannot go in and change preferences or check settings as it is not highlighted to be able to do so. Thanks for any words of advise. We are stuck!

I can't say why it should be doing this. If it persists then your only options are to set it up on another Mac or iOS device if you can (then you will be able to sign into it), or failing that to contact Support - though I don't know how helpful they are likely to be.
To contact  iCloud Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee.

  • Can i use face time on my imac

I have a late 2010 (august) vintage imac w/ a camera.  I want to give my mother (out of state) an ipad2 so she can video chat with her grandkids.  Will face time work between an ipad 2 and a late 2010 imac?  If not, are there other options for video chat?

  • Face Time for mac does not show contacts window or allow me to sign in

My Facetime for Mac launches but does not show me my Contacts sidebar or allow me to 'Sign In'. Preferences is grayed out as well.
It works under a new user account (System Preferences > Accounts). I added a contact into the blank address book to test it out. I'm troubleshooting it right now to get it to work under my account, I think it has something to do with not fully accessing the keychain.
The tell-tell sign for me is when I launch FaceTime for Mac the preview window does not show immediately. I have to click on the app a second time for the window to appear. This does not happen under the new account
    I have already:
    - Restarted
    - Removed preferences and Caches
    - Re-installed Face Time
    - Repaired and reset keychains
    - Signed in under a different MobileMe account in System Preferences
    Any other suggestions

    SOLVED !!
After many, many more steps and close to total ruin of my MobileMe sync structure, I have the found the hidden files to remove that solved my problem.
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist temp
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist .6Va7JFn [+these letters may be than different yours+]
Logged out, then back in again
When I launched Facetime it worked exactly as it does on my test user account.
here are the terminal commands to try for your solution
    cd ~/Library/Preferences/
ls -A [+To get the letters for the third file+]
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ temp
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ .[+your letters+]
Please Post any problems you run into or if it doesn't work.

  • HT1899 Windows7/Bootcamp for 2008 iMac using Lion

    Hi,
I'm trying to work out if I can install Windows 7 under Bootcamp on my older (Feb 2008) iMac (running Lion).
This article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899) implies I can, but the link under 'some Macs'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
talks more about hardware and implies I need an iMac newer than Feb 2010.
    Can someone clarify?
    I'd prefer to use 64-bit.
    Thanks.

    mende1, thanks for the response.
OK, so I'll go for the 32-bit version.
I was a little confused initially because the only reference to 32-bit in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846 is that iMacs later than mid-2011 can use either 32- or 64-bit i.e. the newer machines can use both. Perhaps the post would benefit by clarifying the 32-bit only requirements for older machines like mine.
    Thanks again.

  • HT2020 How can I use ichat or face time for video conference to window computer?

How can I use Ichat or factime to video conference remote famiy members who have windows computers?

    HI,
You can use iChat to Video to PCs that are using the AIM for PC app or have the Trillian App with the Pro Add-on (which costs).
As you list OS 10.7.4 you may find you can find a copy of the Messages Beta  (technically it was withdrawn before the release date for Mountain Lion that has the Full version)
