FACE TIME on laptop

Can I do Face Time on laptop (windows vista) after connecting ipad to laptop.
If so which cable to be used and how. Please help step by step and suggest
cable to be procured.

Face Time is part of the Apple universe, not used on Windows.  Try something else like Skype.
I'm also curious, if I understand you correctly, you want to use Face Time on the Windows laptop and iOS device while they are connected by a cable?  If that' correct, why don't the two participants just face each other and talk directly without any computer/device?

  • Using Face Time on Laptop Internationally

I am traveling to Europe soon and was wondering if I will be able to use Face Time on my laptop while I am there to talk to my daughter who will be back in the US. It seems like a good way to avoid expensive calls.... I am thinking as long as I have a wifi connection, I should be good to go - but I want to make sure that it will work internationally (and for free).

It should work anywhere you have a broadband Internet connection.

I believe you can manage your laptops with one Apple id, but I recommend that you have individual Calling ID's for each laptop.  This calling ID is under the "You can be reached for calls at:"  line when your in Facetime preferences. This will allow you two guys to call each other on your laptops, plus you don't have to be bothered by people calling him, or visa versa.

  • TS3367 why does my face time ring on my mobile phone rather than my laptop?

Why does Face time come up on my iPhone rather than my MacBook Pro

What phone number or email address are they calling FaceTiming you with?
Is that number/address listed on the Mac in FaceTime>Preferences>Settings>You can be reached at?
Can you make FT calls on your Mac?

  • Can you face time with your ipod and macbook with the same apple id?

I am going to England soon and plan on taking my ipod and leaving my macbook home so I can face time with my family. Is this possible to do if my macbook and ipod are both using my apple id?

Having spent approximately £1500/US2000 on their flag products it is bit damaging for such a leading and reputable company on market to ask for even more money...
It's an OPTIONAL extra. If you want it, you pay - just like everything else in life.
If you bought a laptop from Dell, HP or whoever and you decided you wanted extra RAM, above what comes included, would you expect to get that for free too, just because you spent $2000 on the laptop?
If you bought a car and decided you wanted the optional sun roof, would you expect to get that for free because the car cost $30,000?
If you bought a pizza from Domino's and decided you wanted some extra toppings above what comes as standard, would you expect those for free too?
Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, SugarSync etc. all provide a certain amount of storage space for free as standard but if you want more, you pay.
If you had decided to switch to an Android tablet rather than an iPad, Google would also give you a limited amount of cloud storage space for free, but if you need more, you pay. You think Google or Microsoft give away extra storage space for free?
Your expectations are completely unrealistic and out of touch with what is the 'norm' on this planet. Quite ridiculous.

  • Face Time in 10.7.2 Lion

Hello Folks, I am UK based
I recently became an Apple convert.  My system is an late 2009 27” iMac with a 1Tb TimeCapsule.  I use an Ethernet wired connection for my iMac from my modem/router router with wired Ethernet HomePlug for my TV and other Windows based PCs.  Laptops can access the net from either the TimeCapsule Airport wireless or the wireless modem/router depending on wireless card and software.
I see the threads regarding Face Time connection problems.  Perhaps my experience may be of some help.   Please bear with the longish story before I get to the point.
I started to question my ISP about my poor download rate through my local exchange by using the ADSL and Fibre to the Cabinet diagnostics tool from speedtester.bt.com.  I took readings over many months and showed that on my supposed 8Mbps download rated line I was getting anywhere between less than 1 to 4.5 Mbps.  I eventually was told by my ISP that it could be my old modem/router and that I should try to upgrade to an ADSL2/2+ variant to see if that improved the rate. The ISP told me that the modem/router and the network card interact and the network card in the exchange decide and set the IP profile to what it thinks my router and the line can handle.  Fair enough, the exchange is 3.5 miles away and we are fairly remote in the countryside.  The speedtester states that for my connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.  I used a Belkin F5D7630-4A ADSL wireless modem/router but I changed to the F5D7632-4 in my attempt to improve the speed. I then bought an Edimax AR-7284 MnA 150 Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ modem/router in an attempt to improve matters.  This worked and I achieved a fairly consistent speed around 5 to 5.5 Mbps.
Meanwhile I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion 10.7 from the App store when it was released.  My daughter bought a Macbook Air.  We tried to connect through FaceTime.  When I was working with either of the Belkin routers FaceTime worked seamlessly.  As soon as I used the Edimax router we could not connect.  Nothing I gleaned from any of the support threads, changing DNS settings or using specific ports etc helped.  I asked Edimax support to advise and see if they could get the application to work but they too were unable.  The Edimax also barred me from my secure banking connection and a few other websites and nothing I did resolved this.  I had the Edimax replaced but the replacement did the same.  I then replaced it with a Belkin F5D8365uk4-v1ADSL2/2+ modem/router, this unfortunately was faulty but was replaced.  FaceTime worked seamlessly on this variant but it made no difference to the download rate from the exchange.  I now realise that the Belkin F5D7632-4 is an ADSL2 modem/router and from its LAN setup webpage shows Data Rate Down/Up of 6720Kb/448Kb and thus should give me the best that my line can give which is about 5 to 5.5 Mbps.  I have reverted to using it but still have line rate issues.
FaceTime still works perfectly with the Belkin F5D7632-4 as it did with the later variant.
    My point.
Perhaps it is the hardware that causes all these FaceTime problems and not the Apple Software.
Thanks for reading.  Comments greatfully received.  A Festive Season to all.
    Speckled Jim

Have you checked your firewall settings? You have to allow incoming connections for your application (i.e. FaceTime).

  • "Face Time Failed"

  • Will my first gen macbook work with ipad 2's face time?

will my first gen macbook work with ipad 2's face time?

As an update, I bought the WNDR3400v2 router and am supremely disappointed with its lack of power - but - the Lenovo W510 DOES work perfectly fine connecting to both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios.
The problem is the signal strength only twenty feet away up one floor is dismal (as compared to what it was with the ancient Linksys WRT54G for example).
What bothers me is that Netgear goes to great lengths to hide the power output of the radio so I 'suspect' that it is anemic and I don't (yet anyway) suspect the radio on the W510 laptop. Netgear support would only tell me the EIRP at 2.4GHz is 20dBm, and at 5GHz it's double that. So I can only assume the power output from that. If I assume a 5dBi antenna gain for both frequencies, that results in a power output guesstimate of 15dBm (32mW) at 2.4GHz and double that at, i.e., 18dBm or 64mW, at 5GHz.
The other side of the equation, of course, is the power & gain of the W510 radio & antenna.
Do we have specs for the W510 power output & antenna gain (e.g., a typical laptop is about 50mW (roughly 15 to 18 dBm)  pushed into an antenna with a gain of about 1/2 dBi to about 1 dBi at best, regardless of what the specification sheet intimates)?

  • Is face time between Apple devices free if one person is in France and the other person is in the U.S.?

IS face time free between two persons if one person is in France and the other person is in the U.S.?  One is on an iPad Mimi and the other an apple laptop or iPad.

It uses the internet. If either person has wi-fi it can be done on that, otherwise it will use cellular data count against one or both persons cellular data plan.

  • I am trying to find out why my Face Time is no longer working. I tried to contact support but found out it costs $19.99 to do so! Any update on this problem?

Can someone give me an update to the failed Face Time ?

No know knows why or when it'll be fixed (cept maybe for Apple and they're not talking)
It has been down since last weekend. I know that there was an app update for those using desktops or laptops, and iOS users are advised to update their iOS to teh latest (7.1.1) however some have done that and still report facetime failures.
ALl folks can really do is wait and see. Either it'll fix itself or Apple will come out with something about it.

  • Every time the laptop boots, Finder and Open Office opens. How do I stop this?

I downloaded Open Office on my Macbook Pro. Every time the laptop boots up, Open Office and Finder both load and I have to close them. D disk drive icon for Open Office remains on the deshtop. I have an icon for Open Office in Launchpad and I had one on the dock as well, bit I removed it. Is there a boot folder somewhere? If so.. Where do I find it? I am running Mountain Lion.

The Finder will always open when you boot... it's what supplies the basic Desktop, folders, etc. The 'face' of OS X. As to why OpenOffice is launching on startup, check System Preferences>Users & Groups and check you Log-in items under your user name. If you don't see OpenOffice there, make sure that you do not have "Reopen windows when logging back in" selected when you shutdown or restart.
    Good luck,

  • Face time or skype

here's the dilima... I will be on the road for a month or so. Face time ONLY works with WIFI ( I think ? )
and I will not have WIFI in the motel I am most likely staying at. They tell me they DO have high speed internet, but they are having WIFI issues, so I will have that ETHERNET in my room. WELL> I do not have a laptop anymore either! ( my HD just took a ^&*%$#! on my macbook! so...., Can I just bring my modem, ( it is a linksys I think) from home, plug it in and create my wifi? I really am hoping to skype or FT with the family

oh that's right! I forgot about THAT! what is the airport express. just a router like an airport?
It is an Apple wireless router - the smallest I've ever seen, which makes it great for travel.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB321LL/A/AirPort-Express-AirTunes?fnode=MTY1N DA0Mg&mco=MTA4NTc4MTE
Now, on TOP of the settings change facts brought to light, I am wondering if I need both a modem, AND a router?
No. A modem will not do you any good. There is either a modem in each room, or there is a modem for several rooms located out of sight. All you need to do is connect the wireless router to the Ethernet cable in the room, which is connected to a modem somewhere that is provided by the hotel/motel's internet service provider.
All I have done with my Airport Express is connect it to the Ethernet cable in the room, which provided me a wireless network for my PowerBook at the time. My wireless network has always been password protected and encrypted with WPA2. I may have had to make a change for some reason, but not often.

  • Heyy how to put face time on my macbook

heyy good afterroom guys i have a apple laptop mackbook pro i dont have no face time in imessages on it can we help me with that please

If it was not part of Snow Leopard then you have to purchase it. I think it's $1.00. If you are in Saudi Arabia or certain other Mid-East countries then Face Book is not available.
