The answer to your question depends on which Mac and Mac OS you use. Some can do it.

How secure is face time on Mac. I have confidential conversations and I need security.

FaceTime is HIPAA compliant and encrypted as long as the wireless network being used utilizes WPA2 Enterprise security with 128-bit AES encryption. FaceTime conversation stream is encrypted from end to end, and each FaceTime session has unique session keys for each user.

  • TS4185 Face Time in Mac Mini

When I turn on Face Time in my Mac Mini with 10.7.5, it works fine except when I try to put it in landscape mode in the View menu.  The command is there but in non-functional light gray.  I have a Samsung monitor and logitech cam which work fine with Skype.   Is there any way to activate the "landscape" command?

Making HD video calls requires a built-in FaceTime HD camera and a 1-Mbps upstream and downstream Internet connection. Receiving HD video calls requires a supported Intel-based Mac."

  • Face time freezes Mac mini

During a face time chat between my iPhone 4 and my friends mac mini (using a logitech usb camera), I switched to the front facing camera and the video froze for both of us. We still had audio. The mini was frozen, couldn't quit or force quit and had to do a hard shutdown with power button. We called again and everything was fine until I tried to switch to the front facing camera. Instantly the same thing happened, requiring a hard shutdown on the mini. Is this a bug? Anyone else have this problem?
Is there a way to report this to Apple?
    Thanks, Tom

  • Face Time on Mac Book Pro

I just purchased my first Mac Book Pro late Thursday.
I set up Face Time. I re-launch Face Book and I can not get in.
Here is what happens and any advice to correct, is appreciated:
Launch Face Book, camera shows me.
Screen shows up asking me to enter my Apple ID (which is my main email address I use to log into this forum)
I enter my "User Name" as my mail email address
I enter my curent passowrd which worked to get me into this forum
    I hit "Sign In"
A new box "Apple" in button format and "Face Time"  and "Net" appears with "Face Time" not in a button format appears
Box pops up saying people will call me at my main emails address, the same one I use to log into the forum
    I hit the "Next" Button
Then an error box pops up saying unable to verify address because it is in use by "another Apple ID".
How do I proceed to get this thing to work? Thanks!!

  • Face Time for mac does not show contacts window or allow me to sign in

My Facetime for Mac launches but does not show me my Contacts sidebar or allow me to 'Sign In'. Preferences is grayed out as well.
It works under a new user account (System Preferences > Accounts). I added a contact into the blank address book to test it out. I'm troubleshooting it right now to get it to work under my account, I think it has something to do with not fully accessing the keychain.
The tell-tell sign for me is when I launch FaceTime for Mac the preview window does not show immediately. I have to click on the app a second time for the window to appear. This does not happen under the new account
    I have already:
    - Restarted
    - Removed preferences and Caches
    - Re-installed Face Time
    - Repaired and reset keychains
    - Signed in under a different MobileMe account in System Preferences
    Any other suggestions

    SOLVED !!
After many, many more steps and close to total ruin of my MobileMe sync structure, I have the found the hidden files to remove that solved my problem.
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist temp
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist .6Va7JFn [+these letters may be than different yours+]
Logged out, then back in again
When I launched Facetime it worked exactly as it does on my test user account.
here are the terminal commands to try for your solution
    cd ~/Library/Preferences/
ls -A [+To get the letters for the third file+]
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ temp
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ .[+your letters+]
Please Post any problems you run into or if it doesn't work.

The best app I found is Fongo. Available in the Canadian appstore only.
Free with an ads banner. It gives a free phone number. It allows 911 calls. You can receive and make free calls to most of Canada. You can receive free sms from anywhere and make free messages only to fongo users.
Paid services are available in 4 packages:
    1-World Credits: $5, $20 and $50 Credit to make international calls and to canadian cities outside free calling areas;
    2-Unlimited Canada Texting: $1.99 for 1 month, $4.99 for 3 months and $9.99 for 6 months of unlimited Canada texting;
    3-Unlimited Canada + US Texting: $2.99 for 1 month, $7.99 for 3 months and $15.99 for 6 months of unlimited Canada and US texting;
    4-Permanent ads removal fee: $2.99
The second app I recommend is Magicjack.
Free without ads. Free subscription allows free outgoing calls to USA and Canada and incoming calls from MagicJack users. $10 per year to get a US number for incoming calls.
Canadian numbers are avaialable for $20 first year then $10 per year.
    No sms services available.
The third best app is Google voice and it alows free calls to USA and Canada. In order to receive calls you must subscribe from USA on http://voice.google.com to get a free US number. Then you can get an app called vtok from appstore to receive calls. This app will not give you notifications of incoming calls unless if it is running.
Vonage is a good app for free calls to US, Canadian calls cost 1 cent per minute (used to be free).
Skype is an interesting app that allows you to subscribe to different services. The best is the 2.95 per month unlimited US and Canada with the following options:
1-A caller ID with your US or Canadian number
2-Skype to Go Numbers (local numbers assigned to skype contacts and long distance phone numbers)
    3-Call forwarding
Another service is the Skype Numbers (phone-to-skype) available in 2 packages:
1-3 month subscription of $18. Sometimes 33% off
2-12 month subscription of $60. Sometimes 50% off

  • Unable to activate face time on mac

Downloaded fact time to mac. Icon says waiting -- what do I do next??

    Same Here.
Apple explained it to me that the phone needs to send info to verizon and apple verifying that it is able to facetime and because of the lack of an identified network the phone does not know where to contact.
According to Verizon my phone is connected to their network, but not identifying on their end as connected on their network. Said I was on some sort of "extended operating network", but not recognized on their end as on the verizon network.
I went through the paces with both Verizon and Apple (both very helpful) to no avail.
Verizon is investigating the situation and is supposed to be contacting me back in the next day or so. Apple suggests waiting on Verizon's findings.

  • Face time from mac to iphone

I have the same email for my iphone that i use on my mac at home, when i call my iphone from my mac or vice versa it will ring initially and then go busy...
Does this have something to do with having the same email in the profile for contacts, i wouldn't think it would matter, because i use the email for my home computer when i call using facetime from the iphone, and when i call the iphone from my mac i use the mobile cell #
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    SARSTAR

My understanding is that you do need an individual e-mail id for each device if you wish to communicate between them, even though you are using a phone number for calling the iphone.  It's like dialing your own phone number when you make a call from your landline phone - you get a busy signal.  I suppose the Facetime system just doesn't discriminate properly if both devices are carrying the same e-mail ID.
I usually suggest that Facetime users generate e-mail addresses with one of the popular providers, such as Yahoo or Gmail, to cover the individual devices they use on Facetime.

  • Face time has stoped working on macbook pro and mac book air

Its been a week and Face time has completely stopped working on my Mac Book Air and Mac book pro,
I have I PAD 3, I PAD 2, I phone 5 , I phone 5, MAC Book Air Core I 7, Mac book Pro 13" core I 7, using all of this some of these devices which are in India also I am using some to communicate with my family using Face time,
just a week Ago my wife was trying to call me using face time and she couldn't connect, she tried and when she calls i do get call but as soon as I answer it said failed and call ends, i though some thing may be wrong with connectivity , but then I asked her to use i pad instead mac book air to do faceting and it worked from i pad to i phone, but she couldn't call using Mac Book Air to I Phone. I thought the ID may have some problem in mac and i asked her to log out and re logging, and there you go, she couldn't even sign in back. i was thinking what's wrong and i came home and started my mac book pro to see what's wrong by logging in to her mac book air using team viewer but before doing that i though lets just cal from my mac to her I pad and then i couldn't even call so i tried to log out and log in and its a same issue i cant login either.
now its been a week i cant log in to face time in my mac neither my wife on her mac book air. when we use ID its says check your network connection, where my net is working absolutely fine as i am using face time from on I pad and i phone.
i think Apple may have stopped Face time for MAC users.
so i can confirm the problem is only with MAC BOOK .
if any one has solution for it, or any feedback that when it will start again, please advise as I need Face time to be working in my mac.
Many thanks in Advance for looking in to my topic.
