Facebook account "already exists" - but not visible

Hi. I have a new Mac Mini running 10.8.2.
When I first got the computer I entered my FAcebook details and then, when my Contacts and Calendars were populated in a terrifying way, I deleted the Facebook account. Now I realize I was being hasty and I could have just unchecked "Contacts" and "Calendars" in the Mail, Contacts & Calendars panel of the Settings.
However, when I now try to add my Facebook account I am getting the error message that that "Facebook account already exists." It is not in the list of mail accounts. Do I need to delete a p list file or something? I hate to do that because I use Google authentication and it's a pain to enter the new ap-specific password. But I would like Facebook integration.
Thanks!
Meghan
PS Is there any way to select which contacts we'd like to populate? THat would be cool.

I had the same problem, what LousyFool suggested fixed my problem:

Go to ~/Library/Facebook and move the file(s) in that directory to a different location, e.g. Desktop. Then log out and back in, and see if the "Facebook account allready exists", still.
This facebook user account files are under Users/yourusername/Library/Facebook . When you find this file you can just rename the ending ".plist" file in this folder with a ".bak" for backup copy. When you complete the account set up and log out a new ".plist" will be created.
*Note: In Mountain Lion 10.8.3 this "Library" folder is hidden. But if you go to the Finder "Go" menu and click option key the Library will be visable in the list.
thanks all.

I can't access my email.  I have joined iCloud.  When I press mail I get a series of providers.  I click iCloud.  It asks for my Apple id and password.  I provide these to be told this account already exists and I can get no further.  What am I doing wrong?

Sorry everyone - I have solved my own question - needed to go through Hotmail account of course.

  • App's windows exist but not visible

(No, this isn't a hidden app, or minimized window, or window on different screen (Mission Control))
About a month ago, windows in Microsoft Word (Office 2011) stopped being visible on the desktop, but are listed under the app's Window menu item.
This affects all windows in that app that I can generate (the initial choice window (sorta an Open File dialog), a window created by opening a Word document, & the app's preference window, Page Setup, Print, Properties, etc.).
If I choose to use the app's Minimize Window menu item, I see the window morph into the dock.  If I then click on the window in the dock, it again visibly morphs onto the desktop only to disappear when it would normally show the full window.
The morphing window & minimized window appear to have the correct content.
Based on the morphing, the size of the invisible window easily fits on the monitor (either built-in or external).
The window does not show up in Application Windows (F10) or related window pickers.
This does not happen to Powerpoint or Excel, nor to any other app that I've noticed.
I logged in as another user on my computer and the Word windows work properly for that user.
Nothing relevant appears in any logs when I open a window in Word (Only log message is  "Microsoft Word[2296]: GetScaledBatteryInfo is unimplemented and will be removed soon.  Please stop using it.")
I know of nothing special that happened at the time I first noticed this, but I don't run Word daily. (Since the problem arose, I've been using Pages to view Word files.)
I've tried repairing permissions.  I've also done a complete removal of Office 2011 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768), which includes deleting all the ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft* files, ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data directory, the /Application/Office 2011/ directory, the /Library/Application Support/Microsoft directory, Microsoft fonts, and more, with multiple reboots.   After a full reinstall, the problem remains.  This would seem to rule out Word itself or its preferences.
As a s/w developer (non-Mac usually), I'm pretty good at chasing down similar bugs, but I've not been able to find anything similar by searching here or by Googling.
Since it works for the other user, the problem likely is in my preferences somewhere, but not in the MS Word or Office preferences (since those were completely removed & replaced).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi William,
Did you eventually find a solution to this issue, because I'm pretty sure I'm encountering exactly the same problem since a couple of days!

  • Fonts exist but not visible from PostScript, since Mavericks

In Font Book there is a font, one amongst several thousand, called Arial Unicode MS, with one sub-type, Regular. Clicking on this shows the PostScript name to be ArialUnicodeMS.
Likewise, there is a font Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold, with PostScript name HelveticaNeue-CondensedBold.
Pre-Mavericks, I could create a PostScript file containing a line such as
        /ArialUnicodeMS 48 selectfont
and that worked. That worked with Preview, that worked with Adobe Distiller 8.
But since upgrading to Mavericks it doesn’t work, both Distiller 8 and XI both reporting “ArialUnicodeMS not found, using Courier.” Mavericks Preview doesn’t report, but also uses Courier. These fonts have ceased to work in PostScript.
But these fonts exist. They are visible in Font Book; they can be used in Microsoft Word. So why have they ceased to be visible to PostScript? Please, how can they become PostScript-visible again?

    The following was revealing.
    PostScript code:
    /Y 700 def
        /Helvetica-Neue-Condensed-Bold
        /HelveticaNeue-Condensed-Bold
        /Helvetica-Neue-CondensedBold
        /HelveticaNeue-CondensedBold
        /DesiredFont exch def
        DesiredFont findfont dup
        18 scalefont setfont
        72 Y moveto
DesiredFont 256 string cvs show  36 0 rmoveto
/FontName get 256 string cvs show
        /Y Y 36 sub def
    } forall
    showpage
which produced the following log file:
    Helvetica-Neue-Condensed-Bold not found, using Courier.
    HelveticaNeue-Condensed-Bold not found, using Courier.
    Helvetica-Neue-CondensedBold not found, using Courier.
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: findfont ]%%
    Stack:
    /Font
    (HelveticaNeue-CondensedBold)
So the fonts it can’t find produce one properly-trapped error, but HelveticaNeue-CondensedBold has a much worse failure. This font worked before Mavericks: the problem is new.

  • Stuck in a F'fox 9 Sync configuration loop - account already exists but can't manage account-

I'm stuck in a loop trying to configure and use Firefox 9's Sync feature.
On System "A", I have used the Set Up Sync tool to create a Sync account: I belive the account is valid insofar as I can use the email address and password supplied to the Set Up Sync tool to log in to the Web-base Sync portal.
But if I then use Tools —> Options —> Sync to manage my Sync Account or Add a device, all I see is a Set Up Sync button; no Manage Account button or features. AND if I try to re-create my Sync account, the tools reports that the email address is already in use.
On system B, the behavior is essentially identical. I can't CREATE a Sync account with the same email address as System A, but I also can't manage or add devices.
I've been using computers since 1981, and generally can work through these issues. But I'm completely confounded: It seems I've successfully created a Sync account, but on two computers Firefox 9 refuses to permit me to manage or otherwise use that account.

Thanks for the solution. It was *definitely* helpful.
I must say that having worked through the configuration, I did NOT experience the usual "doh!" or even an "ah ha!" moment ala "Oh, I was so thick not to figure this out".
That is to say that, thanks to you, I now have a better understanding of how to make Firefox Sync work, but the steps and controls still seem a bit convoluted and opaque to me.
That notwithstanding, thanks again for your help.

  • Firefox will not start -already running- but not visible in askbar - W-7

Asin XP, now on windows 7, firefox occasionally would not restart and I had to open task manager to end it.
THIS TIME, it does not appear in taskmanager. I uninstalled, restarted the cpu, and installed anew. same issue.
Firefox will not run -- get the window saying firefox is already running. . .
    How can I end it???????
    I'd rather not use IE.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I Have the same issue on a brand new iPad mini 2. My battery is only lasting up to 5 hours. I went on chat with Apple last night and they said my battery is fine and its a Safari issue. I'm literally losing 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is just awful. I got this iPad so I could use it on my long flight for a trip I have coming up, and unfortunately, it's not going to last that long, plus I'm concerned about how many times i will be recharging my battery because of this since battery's do have a life cycle dependent on the number of charges. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

    A few times a week

Firefox is shutting down windows I want to remain open. Example: I am done viewing one window. I click the X to shut the window and it shuts two windows. Every single time, attempt to close one windows, two windows close. Lately, I have been opening several windows with nothing but google search, just so it will shut that window and not something else I want to remain open. I could understand this if I was using tabs, but I am not. This has been going on for over two weeks. I don't like going back to history to open a window, I did not want closed in the first place. Isn't that what 'Windows' is all about? Any ideas?

  • "A copy of this account already exists in Contacts" (but it doesn't)

Running an early 2013 MacBook Pro Retina, on the latest version of Yosemite (10.10.3). I can't enable Contacts for my Exchange account in Internet Accounts. I already have Mail and Calendar selected, but when I select the checkbox for Contacts, it deselects itself a moment later (i.e. the checkmark disappears on its own). I checked out Console to try to get to the bottom of the error, and it tells me that "A copy of this account already exists in Contacts." It doesn't - this is my only Exchange account in Contacts.
I've tried deleting and re-adding the account, rebooting, fixing permissions, and checking for disk errors. No luck. Any ideas? Thank you.

I think I fixed this. The first time I deleted the account and re-added it, I chose the option to only delete it from my MacBook. I just tried again, and chose the option (in a dialog box that pops up) to delete the account on all devices. After that, I re-added the account, and Contacts now works.

There is definitely more amusing endeavours in this world, than trying to understand why an SQL Server install failed. The log files are verbose - but somehow the real information about what went wrong seems to be hiding. Never have proverb about not being
able to see the forest for all the trees felt more appropriate.

What account? I supposed you have already asked yourself that and just shaken your head.
But there is another error code 2203, NET HELPMSG 2203 says "The password parameter is invalid." And I note that the source is apparently on a share.
So where is my guess: the MSI installer - which runs as a service, somehow does not have permissions to read the installation from the share. Or is trying to log on to the share with your username/password? No, I don't know, I am just speculating widely.
But my advice would be to copy the installation directory from the share to a local disk.
Maybe that CryptAcquireContext is significant as well - I don't know.
Oh, wait, here is something just before the section above in the log:
    MSI (s) (F4:EC) [09:04:15:729]: Note: 1: 2205 2:  3: Environment
    MSI (s) (F4:EC) [09:04:15:729]: Note: 1: 2228 2:  3: Environment 4: SELECT `Name`,`Value` FROM `Environment`,`Component` WHERE `Component_`=`Component` AND (`Component`.`Action` = 1 OR `Component`.`Action` = 2)
    Action start 9:04:15: WriteEnvironmentStrings.
2205 is "The logon processor did not add the message alias." I see that in a successful log that I have, so that is probably benign. But 2228 seems to be
"There are too many names in the user accounts database."
Exactly what that means, I have no clue, but it could be a Windows problem.

  • Firefox 29.0.1 on Windows 7 (64-bit): ALWAYS get "Firefox is already running but not responding..." error and need Task Manager to close/restart Firefox.

I run Firefox 29.0.1 on Windows 7 (64 bit) and I get the "Firefox is already running but not responding. In order to open the program you must close the existing window." error. EVERY TIME I try to start Firefox. The posted solution works to start the program, but it is not a permanent solution. I go through the Task Manager and end the old Firefox process, then I can open a new window. While working, I can open multiple tabs and multiple windows, everything seems to (usually) work the way it should. Then after I completely exit Firefox, in order to open the program again I need to fix the SAME error again. Every time. It doesn't seem to hurt anything really, but it is quite annoying.
I used to get this same error on some of the older Firefox versions but it was only once in a while. With the new 29.0.1 it is literally EVERY TIME I TRY TO RUN FIREFOX!!!!
So, down to the big question: is there a permanent fix for this yet? Or will there be one included in the next version update? Or am I going to have to go back to Internet Explorer? I know I am not alone in this experience; i've seen several other users posting similar questions but none of them received satisfactory answers. So what's the story here, team Firefox?

To open a new window you must first close the existing Firefox process or resart your system.' I looked up how to close but I need to click on 'file' then 'exit'. How can I do that when I can't see the page yet? IE is working fine.

  • Firefox is already running, but not responding to open a new window

I closed the only opened Firefox process that was running. Then clicked the Fox to start Firefox again. I received a message: Firefox is already running, but not responding, to open a new window. You must close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. This is a stupid message since there is no Firefox in process.
