Facebook app draining battery ?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if the Facebook app can drain a lot of battery? I have it and everytime someone interacts with me on Facebook it shows up on the iPhone which is great in itself but I'm afraid it's draining a lot of battery.
I was at work tonight for around 5 hours. When I arrived I was about 50-40% battery. When I finished work I was at 20% but for those 5 hours the iPhone was in sleep mode in my locker. So I was wondering, maybe it's the Facebook app with it's push capabilities or another app.
Or worst, maybe my battery is corrupted or defective (don't know it's the right word, sorry english isn't my mother tongue).
Is there a way to diagnose my battery myself to see if it's working correctly? I know the fist time I switched on the phone it wasn't charged all the way up and I didn't charge it all up before switching it on for the first time. Mainly because the phone store where I got the phone and the 1 year plan switched it on to import my contacts for me and ask me to choose a PIN code. I heard it's best to first charge the battery all the way up before switching it on for the first time (or any other device). But that mainly for ni-mh batteries, this one is Li-ion if I'm correct, shouldn't be the same.
Thanks again for your help !

Yes, more than most Apps due to it using Push for messages and notifications.
Yeah I guess, but is Push some that the phone does or rather something the phone get's communication with? I mean, is Push something that the phone will activate on a regular basis (to check facebook for new stuff for exemple every 5 mins) ? Or is the phone waiting to just receive a "push message" from Facebook when it comes ? (which would be more easy on the battery I guess)
My understanding of Push is that the phone is continually pinging the server for data requests and as soon as one arrives at the server, the Serrver Pushes it your way as it knows you are still there. If you don't need Push, then its worth turning it off for that App.

If you put the phone in a metal locker, the 3G receiver will go crazy trying to get a good signal and will also rapidly suck the battery dry. If you are going to put it in a metal locker, put it in airplane mode. After all, you don't need messages or emails while its in there.
I didn't think of that ! I'll check it out next time I go to work with the iPhone! It's probably that. Also I erased my google calendar account from the iPhone today (which used push too) and it seems I was loosing less battery, 5 hours of work but left the phone at home and only lost 3 percent of battery life. Either the locker, or the push or both. I had uninstalled the Facebook app and I still got the "clicks" so i'm guessing it wasn't that.
Just remember to power it of completely or put it in Airplane mode.

No, but they can do that at an Apple store.
Even Apple retailers (who sell only Apple stuff) or only Apple stores ?
I am not 100% sure but Apple stores for certain - you should arrange a Genius Bar appointment.
Thanks for your help !

  • Ipod touch multitaskin open apps drain battery??

When using multitasking all the apps you open are still running background that drains battery, isn't it? is there a way to disable multitasking or there is a way to not minimize an app but close it?

    Hello psikofunkster,
When using multitasking all the apps you open are still running background that drains battery, isn't it?
Not all your Apps are still necessarily running in the background when you minimize/close out of it because not all apps in the App Store have been optimized or programmed to take advantage of this technology. Those that do have an effect on your iPod's battery, but not too much.
is there a way to disable multitasking or there is a way to not minimize an app but close it?
No. The most you can do is open up the list of recently used apps list and remove the desired entries. To do this, double tap the Home button. This should bring up the multitasking bar. Tap and hold your finger over any one of the apps listed until small red minus signs appear on each. Then tap the minus sign to remove it. Having too many of these listed could have an affect on your iPod's battery performance.
    Hope this helps.

  • IBook App Draining Battery on iPad

Has anyone had the problem of their battery going low fast, when reading books on the iPad with this app or any e-reader app. It seems that my goes down at least 5-10% within the hour of reading. My iPad is the 64GB w/3G and I all ways make sure that the Wi-Fi and 3G are off when reading and the funny thing is that then battery life hardly changes when I'm watching a 2 hour movie!

I have this same issue - I was reading in iBooks on my lunch break and then left the app running in the background. I had my phone in my pocket and could feel it was heating up much more than usual and when I checked it around four p.m. (it was fully charged that same morning), the battery was down to 6% (Edit: usually around that time my battery would be down to about 60-70%). No other apps were running and as soon as I shut down the app the battery was going at a regular pace again and starting to cool down.
It's understandable that when open it would use up the battery, what with having the screen on all the time and turning the pages, but I find it odd that it's such a power guzzler even when in the background. Now I'll know to turn it off when I'm done reading, but it's still definitely something that's not working optimally.

  • App draining battery in first gen iPhone?

Last night I bought and installed the Apple Hold'em Poker app on my first gen iPhone -- seemed to work great. My phone was in the charge cradle and I waited until it had a full charge and I pushed the top "off" button when done (but didn't exit the app).
This morning the phone's battery lasted about 5 minutes before dying completely -- but when I turned it on it didn't seem to be "in" the Poker app. Has this happened to anyone else (regardless of the app)?
I've never had a battery issue before, but I'm beginning to think the app itself drained the battery -- which might make me have to remove it. Would love to have some feedback on this issue (hey -- it's an Apple app: you'd think they would have got this right :>)

Additional info: the usage time is the same as the standby time. I suspect that the messages app is keeping the phone from sleeping.

  • Does the Facebook App dramatically drain my battery?

I downloaded iOS7 last night and my battery has been drained today.  I've followed all the tips to try and reduce this but nothing seems to be work?  Does the Facebook app dramatically reduce the battery and am I better off using Safari to view Facebook?
This is bugging me massively as I charge my phone at night, and then also needs topping up during the day.  I could never have a day out with this phone = USELESS

Same situation here, though am not running Facebook app. Now iOS7 eats power too much, and my iphone5 now 15% battery, this afternoon is 100% (ya different timezone). Many site say it is the OS issue. Would Apple upgade some setting to iOS7 quick? I found iPad no such issue, still using battery as usual.

  • Iphone 5,Facebook app, time and battery % does not display?

Using iphone 5, Facebook app, why does the time and battery percentage no longer display?

First, double-tap the home button and then swipe up on the FB app to close it out.  Then, try again.  Second, delete the FB app and then reinstall it and see if that resolves the issue.

  • MyCloud Android app a battery drainer?

One of the users on my unit (My Cloud 3TB) complained that the app was draining the battery. This user uses the Android platform. After un-installing the app, he says, the battery usage was back to normal...
Since I'm an Apple-user myself, I have no idea if this is a de facto issue with Android users...
Anyone who has any ideas regarding this? As to why this occurs. Or, what could be wrong... I have a hard time believing that the app would recieve naught but bad reviews if this battery drainage was an issue...
    //Stefan

I have installed WD MY Cloud Android app on my HTC One M8 and have configured the app so that after taking photos and videos the app is backing up all these files to my WD MyCloud (3TB HDD) when phone is in Wi-Fi zone. Since the very beginning after starting using this app I noticed that during backing up of those photos/videos the app significantly drains the phone's battery. After photos/videos are backed up from phone to WD MyCloud HDD the battery usage is back to normal. I am using "GSam battery monitor app" which shows which app drains the battery. I'm using also Google Photos app which actually does the same - backing up all new photos/videos from phone to Google servers as soon as phone is in Wi-Fi zone but I have never noticed any significant battery drain. Any suggestions regarding battery drain of WD MY Cloud Android app?Has anybody else noticed the same battery drain?

Thank you, I've tried that but it won't work either, the logo never comes up. It just stays on the FB app screen. I tried connecting to iTunes to see if I can fix something from there and it freezes iTunes. Also tried disconnecting the wifi (I don't know how I thought that would help but worth a try) and plugging it into the charger but still nothing. I think I'll have to visit the store tomorrow. I appreciate it, though!

  • When I access the "music" app it appears to be accessing the internet constantly even with "match" turned off.  Is this normal? Draining battery?

I have an iphone 4s and I've had what I think is a quickly draining battery.  I've tried all the usual stuff with looking at "location" services, reducing the "push" emails, etc.  In the process, I decided to turn off "itunes match."  Still, I notice whenever I'm in the "Music" app, not even playing music, the iphone indicates internet activity with the circular wheel.  If I exit, it stops.  It constantly is moving when I'm in music.
Is this normal?  It seems to be draining the battery.
I've tried to re-boot, I've tried to re-store, and it still is constantly "going" even if I'm not playing music.
    What is up with this?
    Advice?
    Thanks.

More info.  I did a "reset" to all settings, this left itunes match off.  But, when I went into the music app, looked at the "songs" tab, all of my songs (including those "in the cloud) were there.  It was then that the "internet" symbol looked like it was syncing again, even though I had "match" off.   Ugh...I guess I'll need to set this up as new phone to see if I can avoid this constant draining of the battery when playing music?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

  • HT201493 does this app drain your battery

Does anyone know if the "find my friends app drains your battery"?

Anything that uses 3G and GPS will have a noticeable impact. But in my experience when someone is looking for you it's quite respectful of battery usage. If you are looking for a friend that can't be found, it's more noticeable.
This is only anecdotal evidence though.

  • Ipad 2 with IOS 6 problems with apps and battery

Ok, I had updated my iPad the day of or day after the IOS 6 came out and at first I had no problems with it. Except now, for some reason I am starting to have problems with different apps and with the battery life.  First off within 15 minutes, it went down to almost 90% charge with it being a full charge and me hardly using any apps and closing the ones I wasn't using (which was just safari and Facebook open). But the problem I have been having is that I cannot chat with my friends on the Facebook app now because it will show its loading the chat box and then freeze up.  With pages and numbers, they seem to take longer than usual to load up which is around 10 seconds or so before I can do anything.  I had uninstalled and reinstalled the apps with no effect and tried restarting my iPad. It also seems like my iPad is taking longer to shut down and turn on than usual even though i make sure all the apps are closed before turning it off.  (the location services, bluetooth, notifications, FaceTime, messages, and limit ad tracking is all turned off to help with battery life and i don't use them.)Is there any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I agree- I apologize if I sounded skeptical and attacking. In no way did I mean it to sound that way.
I completely agree on the software-hardware combo issue- this is why apple killed off 1G and 2G devices- because newer software revisions would never ever run well if at all on such ancient devices. can you imagine running iOS 6 on an iPhone/iPod touch 1G? That would be terrible. Let alone iOS 3 runs terrible on them and now are generally rendered useless due to newer App Store requirements (most require 4.3+ now to allow apple to kill off the older devices). forcing newer software on older hardware (apple, dell, HP,... Anything electronic this definitely applies to) will almost always yield less-than-par results. The other part is apple forcing you to upgrade by means of intentially making things obsolete. all companies do that.
All of this factual info aside, the issue at hand with the 5 is not a software-hardware combo problem- those are most widely seen with the major revisions. then again, this isn't the first time apple has gotten caught up in battery drain snafus (even iOS 5 was plagued with this as well- and now there are some people desperate to roll back but can't). it basically waters it down to the point where keeping the stock software will always yield the best results even though newer versions provide better features- it all depends on whether or not the person deems the added features are worth a performance hit.
PS. I'm still at 100%- and I've been using it periodically throughout the day. your combo worked for you, but didn't for me. And may or may not work for others- As the tech world would say, mileage may vary.
PSS. What model/carrier do you have? Just wondering.
