Facebook causes Firefox to freeze or crash

I leave Facebook open in a tab, and every time I click on it, It screws up Firefox. At best, Firefox will freeze for several seconds before loading an updated Facebook news feed; at worst, Firefox will just crash. And sometimes Facebook just crashes Firefox on its own, even when I'm away. How do I fix this?

I'd still like to hold off on this-- it seems like a generic answer that has nothing to do with this problem. Hopefully there's a simpler fix!

  • Adobe plug-in causing Firefox on Mac to crash?

    Firefox started crashing recently on my Mac, perhaps after I recently upgraded Firefox. This morning I updated Adobe Flash, and reinstalled Firefox, but it's crashed several times since then. It seems to crash while loading pages that contain moving images.
    I've tried turning off Hardware Acceleration in the preferences, but that hasn't helped.
    I've gone to the same web pages with Chrome and Safari, and neither of those have crashed.
    I am using Firefox 37.0.1, MacOS 10.8.5, and Adobe Flash Player 17.0.0.134.
    I opened a new tab in Firefox and typed "about: crashes", and will paste the five most recent crash report ID numbers below.

    Any help you can give me would be great - Firefox is my preferred web browser, but this is getting problematic.

    Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.
    Grab the uninstaller from here:

  • Captivate causing Firefox 3.6 to crash

    Is no one else encountering an issue where recording software demonstrations in Firefox with Captivate causes Firefox to crash? I can't get more than a few screens into ANYTHING before Firefox totally shutting down. I've been having to use IE, which unfortunately, I hate.
    I've experienced this on TWO different computers now, yet I see absolutely no mention of this on the forums. Yes, I have the latest version of Captivate installed, totally up-to-date.
    Anyone else?

    Hi there
    Your post piqued my curiosity so I upgraded my Firefox to the version you are having issues with. Unfortunately, I'm unable to re-create the issue, so I have to conclude that it isn't the Firefox version causing the issue. I just recorded 68 slides over about a fifteen minute time span and Firefox never crashed on me.
    Possilby it has something to do with the page you are viewing when trying to record?

  • Firefox keeps freezing then crashing and a window opens saying "The Plug-In container for Firefox has stopped working..."

    Every 5 minutes or so Firefox will freeze and if I'm on a website that uses the flash player the ads and what not will stop and an error thing replaces them and says Adobe Flash Player has crashed. Then a window pops up and says "The Plug-In container for Firefox has stopped working..." or something like that. Then my laptop will work slower until Firefox crashes. Any solutions ?

  • Flash Plugin is causing Firefox to freeze

    Recently, all of my browsers have been acting up. I use Firefox mainly, but ever since this issue started popping up, I tried Chrome and IE and the same thing is happening there as well. Every time I load up a page with flash on it, the flash plugin crashes, causing my browser to freeze up for 30 seconds up to a minute (I get "Not Responding" at the top too). If I uninstall Flash from my computer, I have no problems at all, but the second that I re-install Flash, everything goes haywire and doesn't work anymore. Even when I reload the page, the plugin just crashes again immediately. I currently have Flash 10.3.181.34 installed. Running XP, and FF 5.0.1

    Please upgrade your browser to Firefox 8 and check

  • Applet served via HTTPS causes Firefox to freeze with JRE 1.3.1

    I have a very simple test applet that tries to get a couple of system properties and write them to System.out. It is packaged in a signed jar. It works just fine in every configuration I have tested, except the following:
    - Firefox browser
    - HTTPS connection
    - JRE 1.3.1
    If you change any one of those variables (use IE, serve the page & applet over HTTP, or use a newer JRE), then it works fine. But with that exact configuration, page never fully loads, firefox.exe spikes the processor, and the applet never writes anything to the System.out. When I close Firefox, Windows' "Do you want to report this crash" dialog box pops up, indicating to me that the app exit did not go smoothly.
    Has anyone seen this issue? Any idea if there's a fix for it?

    Seems to be all applets. The packaging doesn't seem to matter -- it even happens with standalone .class files. Even one as simple as this will freeze Firefox:
    public class TestApplet extends java.applet.Applet {
         public void init() {
              System.out.println("Hello");
    }BTW, the HTML looks like this:
    <html>
         <body>
              <applet mayscript name="TestApplet" code="TestApplet.class" width="100" height="100"></applet>
         </body>
    </html>

    Hi
    I would download the free Onyx application (Google will find it) and go through its sequence of maintenance operations: Verify, Maintenance, and Cleaning.
    When its finished all these steps, I'd then reset the SMC and PRAM:
    - Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    - Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    If you still have problems after these steps come back to us

  • Scrabble on Facebook causes FF to freeze

    Every time I try to play Scrabble on Facebook, FF freezes up for about 45 seconds. All of my plug-ins are up to date and I do not have a virus or malware. I am running Windows 7, FF 3.6.13, ABP, Java Console.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I'd still like to hold off on this-- it seems like a generic answer that has nothing to do with this problem. Hopefully there's a simpler fix!

  • Firefox keeps freezing then crashing. I reset but it is still happening

    I will open a new tab and go to a website. It will stall and I will get message saying there is a problem with a script on the page or a plug-in or a message saying that Firefox is running out of memory. It takes a long time to work through and sometimes only rebooting will get me going again. It isn't one particular website or time of day or anything. I did the reset but that hasn't helped.

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Will entering a large event cause iCal to freeze and crash?

    I copied and pasted a slightly large event (an airline trip itinerary) into iCal and now when I open iCal it reports a server error and freezes. Also, my iPhone will not complete data sync with my laptop now, which I think may be related. Is there a workaround?

    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove your Photobucket cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help at all?

  • I am getting this unresponsive script message when googling and its causing firefox to freeze "chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854" - Any advice?

    When I try an google certain web sites including "NFL" firefox freezes and I get the unresponsive script chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854". I uninstalled Google Chrome but still have the same problem.

    Thanks to philipp: I disabled the avast addon (from) when I updated to avast 9.0.2008, and the unresponsive script has stopped freezing firefox during google searches.
    PS, I added this addon in it's place, Trustwave SecureBrowsing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/m86security-secure-browsing/eula/224305?src=search
    It's not too bad, and seems to be more thorough than the avast addon.
    I also use the web of trust (WOT) addon.

  • Firefox keeps freezing and crashing on 2 pc's

    I have 2 pc's in the household which are using Windows 8.1 Pro 32bit and using firefox 37.0.2. They both currently have add-ons but firefox still crashing either if they are enabled or disabled. This happens then there is only 2 or 3 tabs open at one time. And sometimes Norton Toolbar doesn't work either. I have contacted Norton themselves and they say that their Toolbar is working fine as they had no reports for any customers. I think this is a bug in the browser which needs to be fixed. Mozilla needs to find out why this happens and fix it.

    Several of the crashes are from flash player. You can try disabling flash protected mode:
    go to "about:config" in the address bar and paste "dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode" in the search box. Double-click on the result that appears to set it to true.

I could not get Gmail or any other functions to work. Seems to me as if Firefox was frozen. Using Task manager, I got it closed; but it closed Firefox as well. Sending this message in IE8.
