There is NO facebook app, and there will be NO facebook app...
Nokia has almost stopped the symbianOS for phones, so you can use "3rd party apps" but the most of them are noth worth mentioning...
Dissapointment huh....
They presumably removed your previous post because it was utter nonsense, like this one.
Nokia has not "almost stopped" Symbian and will not do so for some time, they have said that future Nseries devices will use Linux-bases MeeGo operating systems (this is a the next stage of Maemo, the name change comes about because Nokia is working in partnership with Intel on this project); but Symbian^3 will continue in other smartphones. Series 60 will naturally be phased out as Symbian^3 takes over.
Nokia has developed an integrated 'social networking' application that acts as a portal to Facebook and Twitter (with capacity to expand to others in the future), but this is unlikely to be backwards-developped for older models like the E72.

  • E72 Facebook Application

    Hi,
I've a problem with the Facebook App for E72.
When I start the App, I can't login because the app closes when I try to enter the password. So I typed in the password first and then the username, but this also only works when i klickt enter between the fields.
Now the login is possible, but the option button (left button) does not work. The back button just works during the navigation, but I can't resume to the homescreen (standby). Only with the home button I can enter the standby screen and the application is still working. It only can be closed with a taskmanager.
    >However, I tried several things to solve the problem, including a hard-reset and do the complete setup from beginning (without backup).
Just a re-install of the app also does not work.
Do you have an answer to me, how so use the Facebook app?
    all the best
    charly

I rate search for 'Facebook for E71/E72' on the net. Why? Because this app is the only one that will break as soon as it can - unfortunately. Always keep the installer on your phone's memory card. I keep a few apps there - just in case. I won't tell you where to find it - it is free, so finding it shouldn't be too hard. The only thing is getting it elsewhere will affect Ovi Store download counters.
Alternatively, you may wish to try other solutions. One, of course, is your E72's web browser. It can handle Facebook (mobile) much, much better than the said app. Or, if you wish to be cool and have your status updates presented by a Facebook for X app, I recommend you purchase Gravity at Ovi - it's about $9~10 - but worth every cent. In fact, it's the only app on Ovi on sale that is worth purchasing - apart from Shazam. Also try Nimbuzz, which has Facebook Chat - and everything else - and is free at Ovi - or from their website.
    Or Snaptu - yes!
Symbian connected me to the world, to my dreams.. Thank-you Nokia

  • Best way to access facebook on E72?

So the official facebook app for E72 is useless, and the mobile version of the facebook site is dreadful. To me, it's appaling that Nokia will sell you a "smartphone" that doesn't offer an efficient and straightforward way to access the number one social network in the world. Many people I know buy these kinds of phones with portable facebook access as their main incentive to drop half a month's paycheck on such phone.
Having said that, I would like to ask of this community, what do *you* think is the best way to get on facebook using this phone? All answers are appreciated!

The E72 come with a facebook icon in menu > internet, for some versions this is simply an internet bookmark, and opening it will launch the phone's browser and take you to the mobile version of the facebook website. As far as I am concerned, and I have also many opinions in the same vein, the mobile version of the facebook website is terrible. Other versions of the E72 already have the "official" facebook app (available free at Ovi Store) pre-installed. However, this app has several well-documented issues, including problems with logging in and an 'options' button that won't work.
So yes, you are missing something. Have you ever used the facebook app on an iPhone or Blackberry? They are miles ahead of the app for the E72 and the mobile version of the facebook website. If Nokia expects to compete with these devices, it must offer a solution to access facebook which is just as good as the ones on those phones.

  • E72 refusing to use wifi to access internet unless...

    hi all,
just got an e72-1 (gsm). It connects to wifi fine, and when i go into wifi menu on the home screen and hit start web browsing it works fine, however if i then try to use an app that uses the net (updating maps/facebook/ovi etc etc) it only trys to access the net via my network's mobile internet. How can I (if at all possible) convince my handset to give me the option at the time of connection which way I would like to access the net, or alternatively to set WIFI as its 'preferential' point of access so that it wont keep trying to eat throuh my data bundle??

Go to unlockit.co.nz. from your phone
Make sure you are connected to your wifi when you do so
select your coutry and your network and install the APN
    Hope this solves your problem

  • E72/ E series apps discussion

Hi all. Discussions on this board sometimes get a bit depressing as most of us only post when we have problems with our phones. Something which can sadly be quite frequent.
However, speaking personally, I am on the whole quite happy with the phone. It is purely the software stability issues that have bothered me.
So trying to turn things to a more positive and interesting outlook, I wanted to start a discussion on the various apps that people are using on their E72s or E series phones. There are so many on the ovi store, but most are junk. But what gems have people uncovered?
I will list my favourite apps, and the apps or type of apps I miss the most when looking at symbian 3 or android in comparison.
    Favourite/ most used apps:
    1. Sports tracker (free). I love keeping a record of my walking and this is perfect for that.
    2. Skype (free). Shame it doesn't support video, but otherwise what to add.
    3. Nimbuzz (free). For voip using sipgate via wifi when abroad and for a free landline number for incoming calls here and abroad. (I found the nokia sip system not to work with too many routers so use this instead).
    4. Joikuspot (free). Great for an emergency to broadcast phone's 3g signal over wifi to laptop.
    5. Energy saver (£4). This is the only app I have paid for via ovi store. Despite the name it is basically a sleep timer. I use it to set the phone to go off on a timer after I fall asleep listening to internet radio or music.
    6. Slingplayer (bought direct from slingplayer for about £15!). Great to watch and control home sky box whilst out and about or abroad.
Apps that I miss/ wish were available for e72:
    1. BBC iplayer. It worked for a while, but sadly no longer compatible with the E72 which is a great shame.
    2. Facebook. Really miss a proper facebook app. My wifes C6-01 has a great facebook app. They should really make this available on s60 phones.
    3. battery monitor. The battery monitor from touchscreen nokias isn't available on the e72, which is a real shame as it is very good.
    4. skype video or equivalent. Sadly you can't have both fring and skype on the phone. plus fring doesn't have a pc program.
    5. A decent self updating news feed app. Like the BBC one on symian ^3.
    6. A good app for streaming, or uploading and sharing videos taken on the phone. I tried qik, but found the video extremely pixelated and basically unwatchable even when taken in offline mode and uploaded afterwards.
In truth that's about it that I can think of. Otherwise most apps I see people using on their iphones and androids just seem pointless.
Anyone using any gems that I have missed?
Anyone think of anything else that they really wish was available for s60 phones?

    Every E6 user got problems...:/
    just read the threads here...
    - you wont have NO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS any more, no POPUP nothing:/,
    - the battery works max 2 days..in E72  3 -max 4days
    - no NOTIFICATION LIGHT like in the E72(the light is there but the DPad is not working with that
    - to press '!' you have to press now 2 keys
    - the DPad is no touchpad any more:/
    - you cant have calendar info, Email inbox, clock and other ICONS on one screen any more...!
    - no Autofocus

  • E72: Is there a new firmware for Nokia Messaging ?

    Hello,
I have E72 and it has integrated Nokia Messaging. But when I look up Nokia's messaging website, It talks about additional functions like social networking as part of nokia messaging. Are these available for E72 ? I also see the newer Nokia phones,C3,C6 & E5 already have the new version of messaging softwware. Any idea if E72 will get these ?
    Thanks
    venks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nokia Messaging is rather confusing as there are different components.
There's Nokia Messaging Email which is built into the E72 email client (which is part of the firmware).
Then there's Nokia Messaging for IM (aka 'Chat'), which you should have pre-installed as the 'Chat' app.
Finally there's Nokia Messaging for Social Networks which is another separate app.
If you go to http://messaging.nokia.com/ and select your phone, it will show you the services available in NM. You can't download the Email client as it's built into the firmware. You can download the IM app though to update the one built in (I think it may be available via Control Panel -> Phone -> Software Update on the phone also).
NM for Social Networks isn't currently available for the E72 officially. It was available as a beta but it's been removed, I believe due to quality issues. I had downloaded it and frankly it was fairly rubbish.
Personally, if you want an app for Facebook, you can do better getting the official Facebook app for the E72 (from the Ovi Store) and for Twitter get Gravity. The latter has some beta and alpha versions which also support Facebook (plus as GPS support and other features) which work great. Yes, Gravity costs money, but frankly it's well worth paying for as it's one of the best Twitter clients on any mobile phone.
P.S. NM for Email can only be updated by a firmware update of the email client. There are newer versions of the email client for 5th edition as it's not integrated into the firmware. Unfortunately Nokia decided to integrate it on the E72 and these updates are not available to us. That means crucially we don't get Destinations support in the email client

  • How to Check In as facebook status using an Nokia ...

Can I do it on my Nokia E72? is it really that difficultfor you guys to develop? I have tried but I cant...there is a check in icon on FB but when I click on it it doesnt show any location. I think you have not been able to sync the FB check in button with your gps in the phone. Hope you would have worked out something by now...or sadly I will have to chuck my e72 for a BB or iphone. Thats really sad coz i have been using a nokia phones only since 2001.

Sorry if you mean something else, but just open the Nokia Maps and select 'Check In'.. It will ask whether to 'Go Online to use service?' Select 'Yes'.. You may need to sign in using the Nokia Account. Now it should show you the places nearby..Select the appropriate. In the next step, tap in the square box with 3 dots and then select 'Facebook' and then 'Done'. Now a square with the facebook logo displays at the bottom.. Tap on 'Check In'.. and you are done..
