Facebook feed for xpressmusic 5800 contacts bar

Hi all,
I have some contacts set up on the home screen in the contacts bar. I am trying to use the 'feeds' option for these contacts. I have spent some time today looking at how I could possibly use this feature to add facebook feeds to these contacts. I did manage to get some instructions on how to do it but those were written back in early 2009 and it looks like facebook has made some changes to their feeds/URL links hence those instructions dont work anymore.
Could anyone help me add facebook feed to the contacts on the contacts bar on xpressmusic 5800? Also I wonder if that is actually possible or not. If it is not possible then what other kind of feed Nokia was thinking that could be associated with each contact?

Open the full site of fb on ur mobile home browser and then go to the contact's notes.. U'l get an option to subscribe feeds.. Subscribe nd then usin contact bar on homescreen select the feeds..
For the contacts status updates, i'l check once more..

5800 contact bar

Hi,
I have a 5800 on VF UK on latest available firmware. I had handset connected to laptop via usb and was using the Nokia communications centre via PC suit when the phone locked up. I closed pc suit down and disconnected my handset.
Since then the contact bar is greyed out. no contact details are visible and there is no functionality to it either.
I tried a factory reset and reinstalled the FW but still there is 4 grey empty boxes on my home screen. Any suggestions on what the issue is or how to fix it?

ok in this case and only after you do a proper back up i would suggest option #3. this may not be what you want to do but it will clean everything off and hopefully get your phone back in shape. read the whole thing carefully before deciding to do so.
1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for all operations listed here is 12345
2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone
3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working.If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. )
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

Update 52.0.007 for XpressMusic 5800

When will update 52.0.007 be available for my Nokia XpressMusic 5800? So far, the update is not working on my phone with the product code 059B840. I would like to benefit from the improvements. On the Nokia website version 52.0.007 is mentioned, but the Ovi Suite, the Nokia Updater und the phone itself (dialing *#0000#) keep telling me that I have already installed the newest Version (51.0.006). What´s wrong? The newest update was published more than 2 months ago!

Availability of update depends on Region / Product Code... Also if the phone is Network locked then the update is possible only after an approval fron the operator...So.. you will have to wait till the latest update is made available for your phone.. Keep on checking...
... .. you may check with Nokia Care whether they can do the update for your phone.. as some users on this forum have mentioned that when OVI suite or NSU didn't help..they could get it done this way..so give it a try and see if you are the lucky one too...

Contact bar RSS feed

Hello,
Till date its been a nice experience using Nokia 5230 thanks to this site which has helped me alot. Still i have a query about the RSS feed options available in contact bar (at the Homescreen) I am not able to search even in google how to use that particular option, can anyone out there PLEASE help me out with this.
Please provide me with detail info on that if possible.

Hi dwarf2008,
First of all you need to subscribe to a web feed. Contact bar web feeds can be found from contacts in the contact bar. Select a Contact > Web feeds. If you don't have web feeds yet, select Options > New feed > Give the necessary info > Options > Save.

C5 / Contact bar lacks facebook integration

The facebook integration inside the C-series is a big thing and actually really cool. However the Nokia seem to have forgoten to integrate this feature in other parts then just Ovi Contacts application. In the Contacts Bar application widget on the homescreen I can absolutley not find any facebook integration. Neither can I use the facebook picture as the contacts picture on the home screen (C5 / no facebook profile picture..) nor can I send fb messages to fb matched contacts. More I cannot see the fb status.

I've contacted Nokia on the matter of not being able to use Facebook pictures on the homescreen contact bar. The reply was something along the line of pictures are real time and not stored on your phone. It didn't sound very convincing. Fact is, the contact bar is useless without Facebook integration.

Contact Bar has stopped Working for Nokia 5800 XM

Is there any way that anyone would be able to help me. I have had the Nokia 5800XM for 2 months now and a couple of days after getting it, my contacts bar home screen froze. It does not let me add any contacts on, and leaves the screen unresponsive which means that i have to use a different home screen option. have tried Updating Firmware(also tried re-installing it) My version is 30.0.011, and it does not let me update to the new Firmware

I had this problem with my 5800XM last week. The only difference was that it was the shortcut screen that failed. Everytime I pressed a button nothing happened, even the contact and dialler buttons were dead. I had to change to the contacts home screen (very annoying). Tried the web but couldn't find any mention of this problem.
In frustration, I did a hardware re-set of my phone (after doing a backup) using the Green, Red and Camera buttons whilst the phone was powering up,. I then re-formatted the memory card in the phone and did a full re-install.
Hey presto, everything works perfectly again. I guess the software in some way got screwed up ?

Nokia N97 Mini Contact Bar Web Feed

I see that the X6 contacts bar has a "web feed" option. I read somewhere that the N97 had one too (too bad mine fried). Is there one for the N97 Mini? Can't seem to find this.

I beleive you are using MS Outlook.
Try the following workaround.
Manual sync
Open Nokia Ovi Suite--> Sync--> Sync option--> Uncheck the sync automatically everytime you connect the device.
Then Sync--> Sync now--> Contact,
Repair the "pst" and the "ost" Outlook files as in the following location.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANPST.EXE
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANOST.EXE
Right click the above mentioned exe file and 'Run' it.
NOTE
It's adviced to take a back- up of the user's Outlook folders to avoid any loss of information.
Check with Microsoft support pages for more information.

Yup, working on Twitter public accounts, but damn stupid facebook, i want to use it with my contacts bar since all my buddies use FB and only one cousin and me use twitter.

Contact bar on 5800

I have thumbnails on my contact bar and when the relevant# rings I used to have the image of that contact appear on the phone also the name would sound (I do have that switched on) but just lately neither the image appears of the name of contact is heard, have typed a hard restart but no good
The phone is a 5800 with latest sw

press green and red and photo keys together. and than press on/off key for open phone. do not release keys when something comes to screen. this is hard reset for nokia 5800. dont forget, all things gone (include phone contacts). set up date and time correctly. because if PC time and your phone time is not same, you have got sync problems...

It should not be a problem, as long as you are careful. Note the delete settings option when uninstalling firefox will delete bookmarks etc for ALL installed versions of firefox.
Firefox attempts to retain the profile information, that include bookmarks etc when updating. It may still be prudent to consider other backup methods not entirely dependent on firefox.
The firefox 4 beta will install by default in a slightly different location, you are then able to run either the current or the beta version of firefox. It is recommended you set up a new profile for the new version of firefox. see

I believe the Facebook App requires (or at least it did in the past) the screen to be rotated to Landscape to access/enable chat functions/enable online status (I believe at the bottom-right of the screen). You need to set your online status to available (or whatever their terminology is) to have other people see your online status and availability to chat.

Facebook updates on Contacts Bar (Nokia 5530)

does anybody have an idea how to enable Facebook updates on the Contacts bar? I've followed a guide from a site that's now closed but it did not work.
Is it still achievable?

Its not on a 5530.
On an n97,its possible.
However,you can download socially app which gives updates on homescreen.

5800XM: Setting Contacts Bar default phone no for ...

Hi all
I'm trying to use the Contacts bar on the home screen of my 5800XM but I can't find a way to select which phone no. of the contacts I want to appear as default.
The problem is each of my contacts has a home no. (landline) plus one or more mobile nos. However, on the Contacts bar, when you click on a contact, it only shows a single phone no. and for some reason it's only the landline no.
I want to be able to change it so that the default no that is shown in contacts bar is their mobile no, but I cant find a way to do it.
Any ideas?

I fellow member of the forum (patruns) sent me a private message and solved the problem.
What I wanted was the default no. to make a call when I select the contact icon, but it appears that the no. that is displayed beside the icon has no relation to the no that you actually dial.
When you click on the Phone icon below the contact, it pops up a dialog giving you a list of all the phone nos of that contact. From there you select the no. you want to dial for that contact.
That was what I was after.

5800 XM - Contact Bar does not work

Hi,
After initially binding 4 contacts to my contact bar, i swapped to shortcuts and then to basic.
I now want to swap back to using the contacts bar, but when I select that option from settings, the 4 contacts buttons are grey, with the one on the left larger than the others, as if already selected.
Touching any of the first 3 blank buttons brings up blank menu options below it, touching the fourth brings up the menu for some reason and then closes it again.
I have seen a referece to this issue when using the nokia search feature on this site, but the link to that thread is broken.
Is there any fix for this?

I had this problem (on v20). I fixed it by powering up by holding the red+green+camera shutter buttons, then reinstalling the firmware, then doing a reset again. It may have begun working after the first reset, but I did all three things.
I have lost the guitar game but have gained some search icons, including a Vodafone search icon. The main menu has swapped around - applications is now the first icon, and the games have now appeared in their own folder. There is an empty folder called 'MfE' too that has just appeared by doing this.
The IMAP client still keeps giving up with various IMAP servers. This was the problem I had hoped might get fixed by resetting. I can get the headers, but occassionally the application just stops and disappears and then SMS notification stops until I recycle the power.
