Facebook for Treo 680

I downloaded facebook for my Palm Treo 680. I do not know why I does not work.

Well there is little that can go wrong with this application. With that said what we need to do is uninstall it from the device. redownload it and install it again. To remove(uninstall) it go to your applications screen. Tap on the clock in the top left. Then go to delete. In there look for the Facebook application. And tap on delete. Then reinstall it either from www.facebook.com or mobile.palm.com.

  • Separate Palm desktop installs for Palm M505 and its apps and Palm Treo 680 and its apps on same Windows XP computer?

    Hello:
I'm trying to do a workaround. I've got a Palm M505 that has a terrific keyboard that hooks up to it. This lets me write documents in a very portable way. The Treo 680 never had the equivalent, really full-sized external keyboard made compatible with it. So, I want to create documents on the M505 but otherwise mostly use the Treo 680.
Here's the rub. When I tried to sync both devices to my Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 for Windows XP, it didn't work. Hotsync tries to synchronize apps that won't work on the M505. Also, the versions of Documents to Go are very different (5.x versus 8.x).
I would love to have a separate Palm Desktop installation for each device, so I can have a nice desktop environment for each by launching them separately. But, the Palm Desktop installation "wizard" shuts down and won't give me the opportunity to do a separate Desktop install.
Any ideas other than buying an ultra-small laptop and dropping this kludgy scheme? For instance, if I were to copy the installed files from one directory to another, would this work, or would it not be set up in the Registry?
    Thanks!

Okay. Stubbornness pays off! I was able to beam documents between my Palm M505 and Treo 680, avoiding the need for complicated syncing of both Palms to my laptop machine. I was also able to beam documents from both Palms to my Dell Inspiron M300 laptop, running Windows XP Pro.
When beaming between Palm devices, the results were better. In the M505, Documents to Go version 5.004 doesn't translate documents into Microsoft Word format but into something it calls Word to Go. The Treo has DTG version 8.003, which is able to read files in Word to Go format and save in native Microsoft Word for Windows format.
However, even when beaming a Word to Go (old format) document directly onto the Desktop of my Windows XP machine, it gave me a document I could open, with the text I'd input following a bunch of characters Word obviously didn't understand. If I add the file from my desktop to the newer Documents to Go version on my laptop, I expect it will translate it into a Word file when it syncs to the Treo but haven't tested that. In either case, beaming between Palm devices is the easiest solution and completely solves the problem.
For any readers who are interested, the reason I've so stubbornly tried to solve this problem is that I'm a fast touch typist. My old Palm M505 plugs directly into a wonderful, old Palm Portable Keyboard that is full-sized. Because it's a hard-wired connection, I can type fast. That old keyboard compresses into the same folded footprint as some new foldover external keyboards. It does this even though much bigger by folding in an accordian-like fashion, with four flat surfaces folder together. That keyboard design now exists in some of the keyboards sold by IGo corporation (their old name for it was Sierra Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard). But, they were unable to figure out how to handshake their Bluetooth with the odd Bluetooth configuation in the Treo 680. Why Palm made the Bluetooth library different in the Treo 680 from other Treos is a mystery to me, but enough of this tangent. Some interested in this workaround may be curious for similar reasons.

  • Best source for new Treo 680

I just had a bad experience with a seller on eBay - but I still want to find a new Palm Unlocked GSM Treo 680 to replace my old 650.  What would anyone of you suggest as the best place to find one from somebody reputable, since Palm no longer sells them?
If one of you has one to sell, please let me know.

  • Treo 680 to Treo Pro

    Hello,
I upgraded from a Treo 680 to a Pro.  My problem is when I search by phone number on the Pro the contact information does not appear (remains blank); on the 680 the information quickly appeared.  I search by phone number because everyone does not allow their "name" to show and I don't want to call a Telemarketer; this way I know who I am calling.
Any ideas or suggestions for an app that will help?
    Thanks,
    T. Smith

You will need third party software in order to move the data over to Outlook.
Chapura makes a program called pocket copy that does this and you can find it here

I have searched through the Palm guide, but no discussion on extracting the SMS data.  I understand that the sms messages are in the file "Messages Database.pdb" and the call log is in "PhoneCallDB.pdb", question is how to extract the records.

  • Treo 680 on Vista - Sync trouble when changing from Beta to new system! Help!

I have had my Treo 680 for about a year now. When I got it I found that the wonderful people at Palm never configured it to ruhn on Vista which had already been around for about 2 years at the time. Consequently, I never could use all the features ( certain media, etc.) because I had to run the Beta system. Additionally, the people at Palm told me when I called last year that the error messages I get after syncing were just something I'd have to get used to.
Fast forward to today. I go to the Palm site and I see that Beta has been replaced by a system that works with Vista. As I write this right now, I am in the process of syncing and it is stuck on " sycronizing Date Book". I have already tried reinstalling the new Vista version and re syncing again. What should I do to get this thing to work. For five cents, I'd go buy a new G phone from T Mobile and just switch over via importing data to Outlook which I currently don't use and the be done with Palm, ... but I can't even do that because I can't sync the Palm unit anymore with my PC!!!  Any help is appreciated.

DbFixIt is a database scan and repair program that can be found by doing a google seach and clicking on the first result that appears. It's made by Pimlico and after you down load the trial. You'll need to install it to the device. Unzip it and then double click the .prc file. You should get a message that it will be install during the next sync. Then you need to disable the Calendar conduit. Right click the hotsync icon just the the left of your computer clock. Goto settings, the Applications. Locate Datebook or Calendar (Or both) And uncheck them.
Then try to sync. This will install the program on the device if the sync completes. Locate the program on the 680 and open it. Once it opens click the top left hand corner and select Delete Calendar blobs. Once that's done you can run the Easy scan, it should tell you what calendar events are 'bad'. Then you can fix them manually. If you want to program to fix them automatically then you'll need to buy it.

    Help!
It's January 1 and my AT&T Treo 680 that I got in June 2007 has suddenly decided to not show some or all events.  If I tap and drag on the screen where an event has been added, I then see them, but it also adds an uncategorized event.  In month view, I can see the events, but then in week or day view, the calendar is empty looking, until I tap and drag the screen.  Sometimes I can add an event and other times when I add an event, the Palm will soft reset.  The calendar feature, the Diet & Exercise Assistant, and the ability to beam are the three features most keeping me with Palm.  My wife and I each use categories to track our own calendar events and then beam the categories to one another's Treo to keep tabs on who's where and when.  I'm not eligible for upgrade for 2 months.

  • Why does Windows think my Treo 700p is a Treo 680?

I have gone through a long , frustrating fruitless attempt to get my Palm Treo 700p to connect to my new Windows Vista computer.  here are the steps I have gone through...
Palm not connected to computer yet
    1. run "PalmDesktopWIN62"
    2. select english
    3. install shield extracts a whole bunch of stuff
    4. "welcome to the installshield wizard for palm desktop by ACCESS"
    5. press next
    6. accept EULA
    7. download latest settings from internet
    8. complete download, install
    9. install tells me windows media player is in use when it is not...how do i close something that is already closed?
    10. create desktop shortcut
    11. congratulations! you have installed the palm desktop. now configure the sync software and perform your first hotsync
    12. enter a new user name (God forbid it be able to get that off the Palm itself...now i have to remember what name i used before)
    13. configuring and restaring hotsync
    14. connect USB
    15. WINDOWS HAS FOUND NEW HARDWARE!!! imagine that! it asks me to locate and install driver software.
    16. ignore annoying windows message and press the hotsync button
    17. "connecting with the desctop using cable"
    18. still waiting for it to connect
    19. still waiting
    20. imagine that...it didn't connect.
    21. ok...now i'll try to locate and install the driver software (didn't i do that in step 1?)
    22. "installing device driver software" ... "insert the disk that came with you palm handheld"
    23. yell at the top of my lungs "IF THAT WERE AN OPTION I WOULD HAVEW ALREADY DONE THAT YOU STUPID PALM DEVICE!!!"
    30. after much searching, windows tells me that my Palm Treo 680 is not compatable with Vista. too bad I have a Palm 700p, not a 680.
    31. yell at computer again.
so...given that my computer thinks I am plugging in an uncompatable device to my computer...i am outta luck.
since I do not have a disk that Vista finds acceptable, how do I get the driver online I need?

Have you put it into a different USB port than usual? it could be the autoplay settings.
You can check by right clicking the start button, click control panel then double clicking Default Programs then choosing auto play settings, the option will be under removable drives, alter it to whatever suits your needs.

My 680 was working fine last week.  I woke up Friday and turned the screen on but it was frozen.  The time was showing 12:15 am and it was about 5 am.  I couldn't get it to respond so I removed the battery and replaced it.  The Palm logo came up & the bar was moving across the bottom.  When it got to the end my screen went black!  It did this about 5 or 6 times.  Now it won't do ANYTHING!  PLEASE HELP!  When I plug it up, the charge light (red) comes on.  That is it's only sign of life.  I took it to my local AT&T store and they tried a new battery but had the same response...Logo with loading bar across the bottom, then BLACK!  I have never had problems with this phone and it was working perfectly the night before.  Thanks for your help!

  • Syncing Treo 680 (DateBk6) with Mac OS X 10.4.9?

I have just switched from a PC to a Mac yesterday. My most important question is how do I sync my Treo 680 (with DateBk6) to my new Mac. I have a lot of apps on my Treo (including Avantgo), so iSync is ruled out. After reading other forums and doing a search on this forum (and reading the 8/15/06 ginasmith thread) plus reading about Missing Sync, these appear to be my best options:
    1. Continue to use Palm HotSync manager to sync to Palm Desktop (PD) on my Mac.
    2. Use Missing Sync to sync to my PD on my Mac.
    3. Use Missing Sync to sync to the Mac PIMs (iCal, Address Book, Notes and Missin Sync's memo app) on my Mac.
I need advice on which works best. Here's some more background:
    1. I do not share my calendar with anyone.
    2. I have 2300 contacts, 6300 calendar entries stretching back to 1970, 300 tasks and 51 memos in my Palm Desktop.
    3. I use Gmail and look at my mail as a tab on Firefox.
    4. I also use SplashPhoto (but am not wedded to it) and DocsToGo. These two apps as well as all the Palm PIMs mentioned above appear nicely together on one side panel on my Palm Desktop.
    5. The DateBk6 on my Treo is my favorite app of all those on my Treo AND PC. Mylife is organized and structured using DateBk6.
The most important consideration to me in making this decision is stability and reliability of the sync. As I understand it, the primary reason to use method 3 above is the integration with the Mac programs, especially mail.
I can see that this is a positive. Also, on other forums, I've learned that Missing Sync is stable and reliable and offers greater flexibility than PD in syncing with different conduit sets, etc. I have been using a PC tool (Ultasoft NotSync) which also allows different conduit sets for syncing.
I have noticed what appear on first blush to be calendar limitations of iCal compared to PD. It does not offer a year view and has no "go to" thereby requiring me when looking at 1990 or 2010, for example, to move backward or forward by month. In addition the foldout ToDo section looks skimpy and only offers three priorities. On the other hand, it's color coding of events is far superior to PD. I assume that iCal and address book can handle the 15 categories that I would use for both as well as ToDos.
I understand that Missing Sync provides the memo desktop app since Mac doesn't have one (assuming the Stickies doesn't sync and doesn't appear to me to be a good choice even if it did).
I'm perfectly willing to try method 3 to see if I like it and, if not, switch back to the Palm Desktop, which I realize isolates my personal information from the other Mac apps, thereby limiting some of Mac's powerful tools. One person that I respect on the DateBk6 forum has stated that she occasionally tries the Mac PIMs but feels that they come up short versus PD and always ends up switching back to PD.
I'd be very grateful for any counsel or comments from anyone who has used both the Mac PIMs and Palm Desktop.
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Treo 680 (DateBk6)

The are several advantage to using iCal, the Address Book and Mail.
One is their ability to share contact, event and task data. There are simple examples of this with the integration of Mail and the Address Book, and with the auto-generated iCal Birthdays calendar, entries in which are created whenever you add birthday data to a contact card.
A less discussed but very important reason to use them is that developers of applications with extended contact, event or tasks management capabilities focus on information integration with one or more of these Apple applications, either through the synchronization framework, or directly. Take a look at iGDT, for example: it is a far more sophisticated task management application than iCal is, but synchronizes with it so that task data is available in iCal, or can be viewed without launching iCal using the simple MenuCalendar Clock (iCal Edition) utility, activated in your menu bar.
The Palm Desktop can do none of this, because it is neither synchronization services-aware, nor extensible through additional third-party software.
The transition from Palm Desktop to the Apple applications can be challenging, but once performed, works very well, particularly if you consider third-party add-ons like iGDT for task management. The secret to such a transition is to proceed slowly and deliberately, and insure that your data is backed up. You can move your data in several ways: one approach is to move contacts, events and tasks using the Missing Sync for Palm OS without initially overwriting your Palm device, then immediately doing the following:
    • make any contact corrections, group assignments or other changes in the Address Book
    • make any event and task changes in iCal
    • set the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks conduits to overwrite the contents of you Palm device during the next synchronization, but only that one time [the default behavior when you overwrite your device]
In this manner, you will replace all of the data on your Palm device with the corrected data which originated on it and was moved immediately prior to this procedure to the Address Book and iCal.
I have never set down the 'recipe' for doing this, primarily because there are so many variables involved. But, I have guided others through the steps applicable to their particular configuration, and I can certainly help you do that.
Before jumping to that step, however, I would encourage you to look around at your 'extended' options:
    • Crm4Mac for single-view information management
    • Journier for journaling
    • simpleDays for journaling, using a day runner and so on
    • Studiometry for comprehensive business information management
    • EasyTask Manager to implement a GDT approach
    • iGDT to implement a GDT approach
    • Process: an outline-driven, near free-form project management tool
    • HighPriority: an extension of iCal used to manage tasks alone
    • Dossier for organizing notes and tasks
    • BaseCamp: a web-driven, multiuser project management application
    • iTaskX for project management
    • Merlin2 for project management
    • the app4mac xTime series of project, staff and inventory management applications
The list just goes on and on…

Is this the page you got the download from?
I see there is no serial number listed in your screen shot, that is not normal.
You can try a hard reset to resolve the issue. The hard reset will erase all data on the device. Make sure you sync to the PC to backup your data.

  • Treo 680: Typedown contacts search problem: can't find anything after S

I recently purchased an unlocked GSM Treo 680 to replace a stolen Treo 650 (which replaced a 600, which replaced another 600, etc.). I loaded all my data on to it. However, when I do a typedown search in Contacts, it refuses to find any entries which (alphabetically by last name) occur after my friend "Catherine Simmonds". Even if their first name begins with an earlier letter of the alphabet, it doesn't find them. I can reach their entries by doing a lot of scrolling in the full list, but no other way.
However, if I make a change of some sort to the contacts database, it does find them - for one search only. If I back up (delete a letter) on the search or cancel and do a new search, it stops being able to find them again. I've tried deleting some contacts, including the two either side of the "break", to see if they are corrupt in some way or if it's the number of contacts (I have about 420), but that doesn't seem to make a difference. At all times, I can find the contacts using the global search tool - although the 680 seems to have stopped the previous practice of starting global searches with the current database, which means it's often the second screen before the contact shows up.
I run Ubuntu Linux 8.04, and am using jpilot as my sync software.
To me, particularly given the intermittent nature of the thing and the ability to make it work temporarily by making changes to the Contacts database, this has all the marks of a software bug. Is it a known issue? Has anyone else seen it? Is there a fix?
I'm using software version TREO680-2.12-ROW, Firmware R01.92. Please let me know if there's more information I can provide.

What exactly do you mean by starting again?
Previously, I restored a backup and then synced to get all data since the backup. I could certainly do that again. But I don't want to go all the way back to the backup only, because I'd lose all the data between then and now.
jpilot, my sync software, won't let me sync on to a completely blank Treo. It tells me that I have to restore a backup first as a base. So I'm not sure if I'm able to restore the PIM data without restoring everything.
I think it's unlikely to be an incompatible application because the problem is with a shipped Palm app. But you know more about Palm OS than me.
But I'll have a play around and let you know how far I get.

Post relates to: Treo 600 (Sprint)

I've looked for a means of setting default lead times for calendar event alarms, and I've not found any. So, I don't think you can set a default of being off, either.
When I had my old Sony Clié NR70V with the Palm O/S, under the Calendar application's (they called it Date Book) Preferences, it had an "Alarm Preset" option. You could check or uncheck it, and set a number, 0-99, and select Minutes, Hours or Days.
Look under the "i" information Icon under the Calendar application's Preferences area. Note that it says: "When available, checking Alarm Presets sets an alarm for every new event, including....."
You use to be able to set the number of times and how often you would be reminded for alarmed events, too, as is indicated there.
Why have they crippled our O/S in several ways? Third party software sales? It doesn't make sense to me.
    We are going backwards.
    Good luck.
