Facebook is broken in Safari

I have updated to Mavericks and all the new bits to support it. That said, Facebook will not load in Safari. It works fine in Firefox and Chrome. I have reloaded, rebooted, emptied the cache and everything else I can think of, but it still hangs. Ideas?

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

  • MacBook Pro: Facebook is always crashing Safari

<----this is what pops up after is shuts down
I have a MacBook Pro, and it works fine until i open up 'facebook' on safari .
everytime i open facebook on safari, within a couple seconds it shuts down unexpectedly.

Part of the problem could be that you are running Safair 5.0.1; the current version is 5.0.5. Use Sotware Update in your Apple menu to do the update free. That me well let Safari get other components it needs for Facebook.
There are a lot of similar Facebook questions in the Safari forums. You may get better service on this issue by reposting there:

  • Deleting facebook search history in Safari

I'm not able to delete my facebook search history in Safari.  Can anyone help?  I've tried clearing history, cache, cookies, etc.
    Thank you!

    Ok...maybe preferences are corrupted...
    Go to ~/Library/Prerferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari, go to the menu bar click History > Clear History
If that helped, move the .plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. If not, just move it back to the Preferences folder.
If you don't want history saved when you visit Facebook, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Private Browsing

  • Facebook is slow with Safari v 5.0.3 (6533.19.4), Anyone found a fix ?

I have been reading allot about Safari 5 being very slow with Facebook.com
    I have Safari v 5.0.3 (6533.19.4) installed.
Had anyone found a fix for this slow problem ?

I don't know if you or anyone found a fix.  This was happening to me too and I tried so many things, but finally found a solution that helped me.
Safari never finished "loading" sites that I wanted to visit, except for apple.com and a few other sites.  Clearing the cache, reseting Safari, deleting preference files, disabling add-ons, and many other things tried didn't help me.  Changed the DNS server numbers did load the pages that I was able to visit a little faster, but it still didn't help the other sites.
What did help was turning off IPv6 -- System Preferences... > Network > Advanced... > TCP/IP tab > Configure IPv6: Off.  For more information, please see Linc Davis's post in another Apple support discussion.
    Hope this helps someone.

I cannot display google image/sometimes facebook image too using safari 6. please help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • I don't have a facebook share button in safari

just upgraded to Mountain lion and noticed no Facebook share button in Safari.  I have the Twitter share button, but not the Facebook one.  Can I add it?

  • Facebook not working on Safari

Is anyone else having the same problem opening facebook on Mac Safari, it's just not opening properly i can only see few posts and not the whole page, is this a general problem or any me if so then can anyone help?

No problems with Facebook here ...
Might be a cookies issue. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then type Facebook in the search field then remove facebooik.com and facebook.net then cliick Remove > Done
Quit and relaunch Safari, try Facebook.
If that didn't help sign out of Facebook, quit and relaunch Safari, and sign back in to Facebook.
If that didn't help, with Safari open, press Command + Option + E to empty the cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try Facebook.

  • Youtube thumbnail in facebook is too large (safari ipad 2 ios 5.0.1)

Youtube thumbnail in facebook is too large (safari ipad 2 ios 5.0.1)
    Please help

About all that can be suggested is to use the feedback form and talk to Apple. They have communicated with some users, trying to get more info to find out just what the battery drain is so they can fix it. Unfortunately with the myriad of operating systems, apps and individual tweaks, there could be several combinations of settings that are draining the battery.
My personal suspicion is that it has something to do with iCloud and the wifi syncing. (My ipad, before I changed the setting, was reaching out to find a sync on a regular basis. And it may still be doing so, however I set my iTunes to not automatically open to keep my device from trying to sync several times in an evening...not to mention the constant aggravation of iTunes opening regularly)
That said, I could be wrong and it could be an app that users have in common, or several apps.

  • Facebook has not been loading properly for me since Feb. 22/14. Can you please check what is wrong with Firefox. The web-site Facebook works fine on Safari.

I've had issues with Facebook not loading certain areas of the web-site correctly or fully since Feb. 22. When I first go onto Facebook I am on the home page "news feed". Thing is when I click on the tab at the bottom of the news feed that says "see more", nothing is happening. It refuses to open the feed up to older posts which friends or myself have posted. Only about 6 - 8 posts at the max show on that home feed. That's it.
My other issue, also in Facebook is when I go to access my "messages". First click on the tab "messages" brings up a white page. Then if I refresh the page to see if it will load, the messages page loads very weird. It shows the last message I may have replied to at the bottom of the screen, but over lapping on top of the list of previous messages to the left of the page. Plus the page appears extremely different than it should. Just like it's been re-formatted or whatever.
Since these 2 issues started on Saturday afternoon I've switched over to the Safari browser on my iMac. On that browser Facebook is performing properly, as it should be. It's not overlapping messages. Plus the home feed isn't refusing to extend for me so that I may view older stories or posts by friends. All appears fine while accessing Facebook on the Safari browser. Not so while on Firefox. I am running the most up to date version of Firefox. "27.0.1" Plus I have a habit to clear the browser's history daily & restarting the browser as well as my iMac. So I do not believe those are my problems. I feel there may be something you guys there at Firefox should look into on this.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:<br>
    [[Image:FirefoxSafeMode|width=520]]<br><br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
    Thank you.

  • Why would Safari try to insert an s, as in https, into the facebook log in.  Safari won't open the secure page. Advice?

Why would Safari try to insert an s, as in https, into the facebook log-in page.  "Safari can't connect to this secure page."  I've checked preferences and cannot find a reason for this change to the regular facebook address. Safari 5.0.5 on MacbookAir.  I can't even download the updated software.

If you leave your session idle for a while, the site might log you out due to inactivity, but... I wouldn't trust that, either.
Usually your bank will have a link, menu, or some other way to log out. Certainly that is the best thing if you can do it. Sometimes if a site is not fully compatible with Firefox its style rules will result in a jumbled layout. You can disable all the style rules and view the site in a plainer layout to see whether you can spot the missing link. To do that:
tap the Alt key > View menu > Page Style > No Style
(The tab will remain unstyled going forward. You can use the same menu to reapply the page's style sheets later.)
Also, if you want to break the connection between Firefox and your banking session, you can clear your cookies for the bank site. This won't necessarily have any effect on your banking session ''on the server'' but should make it impossible for someone to use your Firefox to do anything in that session. To clear cookies for the current site, you can use the Page Info dialog. Here are 3 ways to open it:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * click the padlock on the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then reload the page and the site should behave as though you are not logged in.

  • Can't open up Facebook on Mac in Safari

For some reason, I can’t access Facebook on my mac in safari or even google chrome, the page takes ages to load up, then comes in a HTML written language (not the usual homepage).

Avoid third party cleaning utilities. They can do far more harm than good on your Mac.
