Facebook issue with Titanium Powerbook

Hi, I bought a Titanium model powerbook as a spare and it works fine apart from when I use facebook the display seems all the way to the left ( all the pics and writing are on the left of the page with the other two thirds plain )
All other websites seem to work fine just facebook being a problem
When I check it the software appears to be up to date ( OS X 10.3.9 ) is this Panther ?
Any thoughts ??

thanks Carolyn; I have the same problem with my old G4/400 that runs OSX 1.3.9 with Safari version 1.3.2. Just wanted the original poster to know that he's not the only one with the issue. I guess it's time we upgraded these older Macs to a newer OS.
I looked at Safari Help\Installed Plug-Ins and found a couple of items listed twice. I looked in the Internet Plug-ins folder in the Library Folder (not the user library, the one above it) where all the plug-ins reside, and there were a lot of plug-in files and plug-in folders in there. It wasn't clear for example why the quicktime plugin details were listed twice (with two different quicktime plugin items in the Plug-ins Folder) and also why there is a Java Applet Plugin as well as a JavaPluginCocoa.bundle. We users havent' a clue whether we've somehow got duplicated items in there, that might be interacting adversely. I guess for most of us the sad answer is to do a brute force upgrade to a new OS and hope everything works after many hours of upgrading ****, resolving program incompatibilities and upgrades, etc.
I'll submit a bug report to Facebook but not sure it will do much good. However, one has to wonder why facebook seems to be the 'only' web page showing this glitch since their site is so dependent on networking and getting as many people as possible using facebook. Theirs is the last kind of web site that should be using non-backward-compatible software technologies. Their programmers may be kind of shooting themselves in the foot.

  • IPad Facebook issues with Safari

Upgraded our iPad2 to 5.0.1 and when we now access Facebook via Safari, the video in Facebook now loads over the text.
According to a Genius Bar guy at our local Apple store, this is a Facebook issue. I don't want to use the new Facebook app as it's still quite buggy.
Any suggestions for accessing Facebook with Safari?
    Thanks.

This is all on Facebook's code.  There is nothing you can do from the iPad other than to contact Facebook support and tell them about it.
I use the Facebook app frequently and I don't find that it's that buggy.  It's not perfect by any means, but it's OK.  But I generally do prefer the web version.

  • Power issues with my powerbook g4 display and keyboard

Hi I have been having problems with my powerbook g4 17 inch 1.67 GHz low-res model. The issues that I have been experiencing are related to pmu issues, my display powers on every now and then and my keyboard appears to not have power. The usb and firewire ports appear have power going to them especially the firewire the usb ports seem to be under powered. So my question to you is do you think that it is the pram battery or the logic board all together. When I power on the computer I sometimes hear the chime and other times I only hear the sound of the fans spinning. Please respond back A.S.A.P. your thoughts on this matter are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like there may be damage to either the cables to the display or the inverter, which provides the power for the backlight.
If the screen is viewable, especially when exposed to bright light, then it's probably just the display backlight.
Unfortunately, a repair will probably require replacement of the display assembly, which can be expensive and would not be covered under warranty if the product of a drop.
You may still be able to pull video from the DVI port (or VGA with the adapter) to still use the computer, or so you can back up your data.

  • Need Help with Titanium Powerbook board replacement

    Hi,
I have couple questions about replacing my motherboard for my Titanium 15" Powerbook. It's a 400Mhz w/ 256MB Ram and 10GB hard drive. Would it be possible to upgrade with a different board? Would it fit? Are there any sites that offer great prices for upgrades for this? Any information would be great. It is in great condition and I would like to make use of it. Thank you for your time.

Hi, Thank you both for the reply. I will check out the web site. I noticed in your equipment that you have a TiBook as well. How did you get it up to 1GHz? did you change the processor on that 500Mhz board? Let me know. Thanks. Appreciate your help.

Hello Everyone, I have been working on my friend's computer because her laptop has been giving her issues. The main issues that have been occuring is programs crashing (well, when you try to load them, they end up "Not Responding") Additionally shutting down the computer will sometimes result in the computer being frozen in a grey screen. I'm trying to figure out what it may be, however is it the RAM, Hard drive or possibly both? I will be clean installing her system software once she gets me her discs, and I copy her files onto an external hard drive. Would it just be a good idea to advise her to get additional ram none the less?

  • PC cards and routers for use with Titanium powerbook

I recently purchased a used powerbook g4 for my wife's writing and installed OS-X 10.4. It did not come with an airport card. I already have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router which works fine with my iMac G5 (ethernet connection) and the PC notebook in the house. I have tried using an Orinoco 802.11a/b pcmia card, TP-Link TL-WN510G card, and a U.S. Robotics 100 Mbps 802.11g card, in the powerbook, and can not make a connection. The Orinoco card was recommended as Mac compatible.
Is my problem likely to be with the router or the PC card? Would purchasing a new router solve my problems? What would you suggest?

  • Strange Vertical lines and pixelation issues with my Powerbook screen...Hel

I have got a problem with mt LCD screen which now permanently displays lines of "dead" pixels, but they can't be dead because they chaneg all the time. If I move a window, I get lots more, which are created by the edge of the window, like a ghosting? Does that make sense?
I have taken a screen grab, but not sure how to feature it in these forums. Anyone got any ideas or know about this problem?
I have had a similar problem with this and other laptops, but it has always been a temporary thing before, when I had overloaded the system or something, and I got 'ghosting' from the trailing edge of a window, but this is permanently there?

I have now attached a monitor to the PB, and it happens on the monitor too...maybe suggesting something wrong with the graphics card or logic board, rather than the screen itself. When I type this message, I get strange red 'ghosting' lines where the cursor moves across the page.It reminds me of the 'Etch-o-sketch' game, where you draw lines, and then wipe them off. I can move a window from left to right and get these ghosting lines. When I move the window back right to left, they erase the lines to the left of the window, but I get more to the trailing right edge of the window...i.e. on the right of the screen.
Scrolling also removes these pixels, but creates new ones elsewhere.
    Any ideas?

  • Serious boot issues with Powerbook G3 (Wallstreet II, OS 9.2.2)

    Hello,
I have major issues with a Powerbook Wallstreet II I got recently. When it's finally running, it works just as well as Wallstreet Powerbooks usually do, no errors, no crashing, smooth performance, everything fine.
But booting it up is, to put it mildy, a bloody pain. First off, it does not power up, when it's only connected to batteries. I have two of them, both working fine for several hours when put in after bootup, but no matter if I place one or both of them in any bays, nothing happens when pressing or holding the power button (apart from screen flickering and speaker crackling). I'm always forced to connect the power adapter, which immediatly (without pressing the power button) causes the power LED to light and the cooling fan insanely spins up for a mere couple of split seconds until everything wents silent again.
Having reached this point, I can disconnect the power supply (if at least one battery is in) and usually hear a nice "BONG" when pressing the power button once again. Thereafter, nothing happens for a oppressive 30 seconds, then, the screen finally lits and shows the Mac OS 9.2.x splash screen on monochrome background. Sadly, this is already the end of most of my first boot up tries, because at this point, I usually get told by a dialogbox that a bus error has just happened. The box also has a nice "Reboot" button, which I cannot click as the trackpad hangs as well.
Pressing ShiftFn+CrtlPower works here in about one out of three time, so in most cases, I have to go through the same procedure. Pull out power sources, give a shot via PSU, have it iddling for 30 secs. In most cases, this second try lets me pass splash screen, loader, yes, it even lets me see the desktop, the taskbar, the HDD icon and... pouf. Success is so close but no, it has to suddenly drop into sleep mode and
a short press on power proves the apprehension true, that it won't be easy to wake it up again. Hrmph. But I don't give that easily. So pulling everthing out for the second time, connect PSU for the third time and look there, it fully boots.
Three tries to successfully boot is about average at first try series. Afterwards, it seems to be "warmed up" and things get easier. I made a log recently with 5 test series, made at very frequent intervals:
    Series 1:
    1. Bootup: Bus Failure (Hard reboot fails) (bays empty)
    2. Bootup: Sleep Mode (bays empty)
    3. Bootup: Sleep Mode (bays empty)
    4. Bootup: Sleep Mode (both batteries)
    5. Bootup: Bus Failure (Hard reboot successful)(both batteries)
    6. Bootup: Success (left battery, right bay empty)
    Series 2:
    1. Bootup: Success(left battery, right bay empty)
    Series 3:
    1. Bootup: Bus Failure (!!!) (left battery, right bay empty)
    2. Bootup: Success (bays empty)
    Series 4:
    1. Bootup Success (left bay empty, right battery)
    Series 5:
    1. Bootup Success (both batteries)
Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

    jpl,
    Thank you for continuative support.
If you plan on buying a 256MB memory module, the Wallstreet requires
a 256 specifically made for it (and the early iMac
and Lombard). Modules 128MB and smaller can be
generic if they meet the Wallstreet's specs.
    Thanks for this information.
You might find it useful to disassemble the 'book to the PMU, carefully remove/reseat the PMU card, then test.
Well, to be honest, I don't have the time to perform this very labour-intensive work. However, I pulled out the large PMU connector (the one that can be reached by lifting the keyboard) and reseated it, without any results. Shouldn't that suffice? Or is there another connection that could need maintenance?
Regarding sleep: There is no display position sensor, only a simple magnet in the right display bezel approximately 4" from the bottom...you can stick a paperclip to it. When the display closes, it triggers a sleep switch located next to the delete key in the side rail.
    Ah, okay.
According to Apple, if the powerbook will not run on battery, it could be the charge card or PMU board or power supply card or logic board. However, your 'book apparently runs on battery once started via power adapter.
Actually, it does not allow me to power up, if I attach the adapter right after an unsuccessful try to operate from battery. Even if I remove the batteries (after adapter connection).
It's like it is "crashed" before it's even running. Which means, I have to pull all power sources to be able to perform the resuscitating power up via adaptor.
A normal power manager reset on the Wallstreet is this:
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Simultaneously press Shift-Fn (function)-Ctrl >(control)-Power.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the PowerBook >computer.
A successful reset will briefly flash the sleep light plus >spin up the fan for a second. If a reset does not solve the >startup and sleep issues, then you will have to look >elsewhere.
I can see the sleep LED and I do hear the fan, however, this didn't help in most cases. After perfoming this action (in a freeze situation), I usually only got rattling noises out of the speakers or screen flashes when trying to power up.
Be sure the powerbook only freezes when closing the display to sleep it.
Well, I noticed it sometimes also freezes when left idle directly after start up (and power save is activated). Later, it comes right back again.
    - Is the sleep light blinking before you open the display?
    Yes.
    - When the display is opened, does the sleep light continue to blink? (It should.)
    Yes.
    - When you press the power button, do you hear a 'buzz' or some similar noise? If you do, you may have another issue to explore.
No. I usually only hear speaker noise when trying to power up from battery. But oddly enough, the lenght of the sleep light blinks changes when power button is hold down in "frozen sleep".
I would also go to the System Folder > Preferences folder and drag the Energy Saver Preferences to the Trash, close all windows, then restart...a new preference file will be created on restart. You can reset the Energy Saver to your like, then test sleep.
    Done.
-Does sleep/wake always work when NOT closing the display? Try this after resetting the power manager and trashing the pref file mentioned below.
If I initiate sleep, yes. If it suspends automatically, well, usually. But not always (see above).

  • 500Mhz Titanium PowerBook power issue (won't start up)

My 500Mhz Titanium PowerBook is having power issues, and I can't tell what's causing the problem.
We usually default to using the adapter because the old battery only holds a charge for about 30-45 minutes or so...This isn't really a problem because we only use it around the house.
Earlier today, my wife said it didn't recognize AC power, but when moved to a different outlet, it did. I came along later and moved it to the previous outlet, and again, it didn't recognize AC. I then moved it to a third outlet, and it still didn't begin charging.
After a few minutes of battery power, it went to reserve. I still tried a fourth outlet to no avail, then just shut it down at about 12% reserve. Now I can't get it to start up at all.
I've disconnected everything, tried the "60-second rest," and resetting the PMU, but the PB still won't start up.
    Any suggestions?
On an semi-related note, I read this article regarding identification of power adapters:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75448#922-4323
...and I'm puzzled as to why Apple doesnt refer to the adapter model number but instead uses some other ID which I can find no mention of on my adapter. This "yo-yo" adapter has "Model No. M7332" imprinted on it and according to the article, as far as I can tell, Apple refers to it as a 922-4323 with a 922-4529 cord--numbers I can find no reference to on the adapter or cord. Am I missing something?
    500Mhz PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Hi, Sluggo. Remove the main battery, plug the AC adapter into an outlet that causes the adapter's ring light to come on, and leave the powerbook that way to charge the internal backup battery for at least four hours (overnight is easy). Then put the main battery back in, give that some time to charge up at least partially, and then try starting the PB (still on AC power). Post back with results.
A weak or dead backup battery can prevent a Tibook from starting at all. A weak or dead main battery may, in some cases, divert all charging energy away from the backup battery until the main battery is fully charged — or indefinitely, if the main battery is no longer capable of taking a charge. The main battery charge-level indicator on the menu bar is usually wildly inaccurate by the time the battery is only able to deliver ~30 minutes of ordinary working time. Whatever percentage it reports is probably untrustworthy and may be pure moonshine.
With respect to different outlets producing different results in the adapter, that isn't related to the backup battery. Try a different, known-good AC adapter, if possible, and see whether it behaves the same way yours does when connected to your various electrical outlets. If its behavior is identical (not likely but possible), read the two articles linked below and consider getting an uninterruptible power supply unit to condition your AC power, which may be noisy.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302461
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32155
If a known-good adapter behaves normally and as expected when connected to all your outlets, replace your adapter.

Is anyone else having issues with the most recent Facebook app update? I updated it on my iPad 2 yesterday, now it will not open app at all. I have restarted iPad, uninstalled app and reinstalled, several times and still it will not work! Any suggestions? I have also closed the append still no results!

I just started having this yesterday.  It's only happened twice, but it's annoying.  My wife texted me that she was coming home last night, and it showed up immediately on my iPod Touch but not my iPhone. I opened my iPhone and it soon updated.  Worked fine after that.  Then just a moment ago today my wife texted me and the same thing happened.  I heard my iMac and iPod Touch receive the message but it didn't display on my phone until I opened the phone and it showed up again a little bit thereafter.  I suppose I'll send Apple some feedback on this issue.

  • Upgrade to usb 2.0 with my titanium powerbook?

If I add a USB 2.0 card to the pci slot in my titanium powerbook, is it bad to often disconnect it and reconnect it? I say this because I want my new ipod touch to work, and it wont right now...but I dont want a big thing sticking out of the side of my computer when I am carrying it around. So could I just connect the card whenever I wanted to sync the ipod? thanks.

Hi, bsgroup. Yes, you can remove a USB 2.0 adapter from your PCMCIA slot whenever you aren't using it. There will be no ill effects at all. Just don't remove it while a USB device is connected to it.
However, you should make sure your iPod Touch, about which I know nothing, does not require a built-in USB 2.0 port. The ports on a USB 2.0 adapter card can't supply as much power to connected, bus-powered USB devices as your Powerbook's built-in ports can. I'm not an iPod owner, but it's my understanding that when an iPod is connected to a computer's USB port, it draws its power from the computer rather than from its own battery, and the computer simultaneously charges the iPod's battery. If too little power is available from the port, the iPod won't function properly or its battery won't charge, or both. I don't know enough to tell you what will happen when you connect your iPod to an adapter card. You should post in the appropriate iPod forum and ask others who are more familiar with your iPod model whether any of them have used one with a USB adapter card in a Powerbook that doesn't have built-in USB 2.
I recently bought a USB 2 portable hard drive enclosure and a USB 2 adapter card of the kind you're considering. I was careful to buy a drive enclosure that came with two cables: a USB data cable and a usb power cable, so the drive is able to connect to two USB ports: one for both power and data, and the second for additional power only. When I connect both cables to the two USB 2 ports on my adapter card, my drive (the original 60GB drive mechanism from my Tibook, which I recently replaced with a 120GB internal drive) doesn't get enough power to spin up and can't be used. If I connect the drive's data cable to one of the ports on the card, and the auxiliary power cable to one of my built-in USB 1.1 ports, the drive works perfectly. An iPod can't draw power from two ports, so it has to get whatever it requires from just one. That may or may not be possible using an adapter card. Go into the experiment with your eyes open, and please let us know how it works out for you.
I might mention that the card I bought cost me about $12-13 at a nearby CompUSA store, and bore the store's brand name. CompUSA is about to go out of business nationwide, and if there's a store near you, you might find some very attractive prices there.
