Facebook loses descriptions when shared from iPhoto 9.4.2

When I share individual photos or photo albums from iPhoto latest (9.4.2) to Facebook all descriptions are lost (other than album description); I know this was working a few months ago so not sure what's up now. I found a few older support threads, but nothing recent of relevance. I did temporarily delete the iPhoto app in Facebook, but no change.
Without being able to automatically transfer/update descriptions it gets to be a big pain. Ideas appreciated!
Thanks,
Jim P.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to abandon the "official" share button for uploading to facebook, too much trouble. It's been causing iPhoto to crash and also you have to put the photo description into the title field in order to get it to appear on facebook which is useless. From here on I'm going to enter the descriptions in iPhoto in the correct field (descriptions) and use the file->export option and the settings below to export the files which I'll then upload to facebook using the facebook uploader, at least that way I end up with no crashes and I get the description field in iPhoto filled in correctly and the description data uploaded to facebook.
It shouldn't be necessary to do it this way, but it is.
I've no idea what that will do with faces information, nothing I suppose, I'll try it out

  • When printing from Iphoto the photo is cropped at the top

When printing from Iphoto, the image is not the same size as in Iphoto.  The top of the photo is always lost.
If I copy the image to preview and thence to Word the photo prints in full.....  Why?

Because you are printing a different size than the image - you give no details so one can only provide generalities
If you have an image that is 4:3 in dimensions and print it as an 8x10 image something has to give - it is the top or side of the image
Crop to the dimensions of the print - and you will lose nothing

  • Skin Tones Look Wrong When Printing From iPhoto

    Hi
I'm having trouble getting the caucasian skin tones to look right on photos printed with my Epson Stylus C86 printer on Epson Premium Semigloss paper. They look too pinky/purple when compared with the screen of the Sony DSC camera I shot them with and also my iMac's monitor. They just look wrong as though the subjects have a combination of bad sunburn, high blood pressure and are blushing at the same time!
I've tried the following tips synthesised from other threads:
    1. Downloaded the latest set of drivers from Epson's website.
    2. Ensured that they are associated with the printer in ColorSync utility.
    3. Selected the Use ColorSync option when printing from iPhoto's print dialogue box.
These made no difference to the default behaviour i.e. same color problems.
Could anyone guide me to a solution? I would rather not have to use another application to print them if possible. I'm not used to my Mac not "just working".
    Thanks

What color profile do the pics have? Is the printer set to the same profile?

My photos shrink in size when emailed from IPHOTO or attached - How can I fix this. My friends say they can't see my pictures... thanks!!

When you email from iPhoto, you have a choice as to the size of the picture - choose medium and your friends will be able to see them.  By the way, do your friends click on the photo attachment  in the mail to open it?

  • When emailing from iPhoto, the recipients address comes up incorrect, even though it is correct in both my email accounts.  How do I edit it?  I have changed it, but the next time it appears it contains the same errors.

When emailing from iphoto with a template, the recipients' address comes up incorrect (a couple of letters are wrong).  The addresses are correct in both my email accounts, including the one I am using for the iphoto email.  I have corrected the address prior to sending the email, but they come up with the same errors the next time I choose them in the iphoto 11 program.  How do I correct thes email addresses?  thank you

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

  • Printed photos from Aperture 3.2.1 have lines through them - don't get that when printing from iPhoto

I recently downloaded Aperture 3.2.1 and after editing a couple photos (love that process!), tried to print them.  Both had horizontal lines across the entire photo.  I don't have this problem when printing from iPhoto.
As an FYI, I have this problem when printing from PSE too, but worked around it by importing edited photo back into iPhoto and printing from there.  I don't want to do that with Aperture, because they have much better printing choices.
    I have a Canon MP 500 & a Canon IP 4300 - same issue with either one.
I contacted Canon tech support and got this reply:
We appreciate your correspondence regarding your PIXMA MP500. I am sorry that lines are printing through photos printed from aperture.
If aperture is the only program the issue occurs with then the print setting in aperture will need to be changed. You will need to use the icc profiles for the paper you are using. For details changing the print preferences in aperture please goto: http://www.redrivercatalog.com/profiles/how-to-use-icc-color-printer-profiles-ap erture-3-canon.html
I looked at the link and basically had a brain freeze.  It was very complex, and I was concerned that it was for Red River papers - I use HP paper.
I called HP to get their instructions for icc color printer profiles - complete zero.  They said it's a printer issue and would be happy to sell me a HP printer.
Please, can anyone help a struggling Aperture newbie?  I'm so frustrated.
    Thanks - Jma

    Hello Kirby,
Your recap is correct.  I ran Apple Software Update and both programs are up to date.  I looked on Canon's site and there are no new firmware updates for either printer.
When I select "print" in Aperture, I've selected the Canon MP500.   Under the "Rendering" section, the color profile offers six different selections that include the MP500.  I've tried them all.  They all have lines through them.  There is a note, in grey, beneath the Color Profile box, that says to "Turn off color management in the printer driver".  I have absolutely no idea how to do that, and I've googled it, to no avail
Under "Render Intent" I've tried both selections - Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual.  Still, lines through both.
This is really discouraging.  Both printers work perfectly fine - with iPhoto, so it's hard for me to justify buying a new printer.  And how do I know I wouldn't have the same problem with a new printer?
Fingers crossed that this can be resolved.  I have several photos I'm supposed to be printing for gifts.  And if the problem is in Aperture or PSE, won't the lines still be there even if I use one of the online printing companies?

  • Wrong capture time when importing from iPhoto to FCPX

I am experiencing a strange problem when importing from iPhoto to FCPX. If I open the info panel in iPhoto I see the real date/time when the picture was taken, but if I import them to an event in FCPX using the PHotos Browser and I check the info it shows the time when the image was imported to IPhoto and everything gets messed up.
I have search for somebody with same problem but I have not found anything so far.
MY workaround is to import directy onto the timeline, but it is... well, a workaround.
    Thanks in advance

Why is knowing that important during the edit?
Yes, FCP only shows the date imported" date metadata.  Future updates of FCP X I assume will add more metadata support, such as Creation Date and Modification Date, since metadata is vital to FCP X and there are some metadata handling features that are on the way.

  • How can I compress photos when emailing from iphoto? current photos are 7-8Mb each

How can I compress photos when emailing from iPhoto?
current photos are 7-8Mb each if I just attach them directly

Aperture won't delete the photos from your iPhone. Most users have settled on using Image Capture ater importing into Aperture to delete the photos from the iPhone.

  • When printing from iphoto all photographs ar printed in a pop art style rather than as seen - how do I change this to printing the photo as seen

When printing from iphoto all photographs are printed in a pop art style rather than as seen - how do I change this to printing the photo as seen?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Damaged preference files can cause a varitety of problems which you wouldn't think it could. Deleting and regenerating the pref file is one of the basic fixes to try.

  • IDVD error message when sharing from imovie

    1. When "sharing" from imovie to idvd, error message appears reading: "unable to publish project due to error-41."
    2. Successfully "shared" once, with the first clip upside down.
    Thank you for your insights.

    Hi
Most probably it's the Start-Up/Boot/Mac OS hard disk that has less than 5Gb free space.
To let iDVD run OK - This Start-up hard disk should have 25Gb or more due to that
Your Mac is running a sort of UNIX (Mac OS) and this makes Mac OS and iDVD to use
lot's of temp files - AND they can not be addressed to any other hard disk at all.
More RAM - will not help
External/Second hard disk will if You first formatte it as Mac OS Extended and
move material over to this (or use it as Start-up hard disk)
External Start-up hard disk must be FireWire - NO USB2 will do this.
Must be Mac OS Extended formatted
Western Digital - My Book Serie - Can't do this.
My Lacie - works gladly as secondary start-up hard disk.

  • Get an error message when importing from iPhoto says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space."

I get an error message when importing from iPhoto that says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space." the drive is empty, I just reformatted it to Mac OSX journaled.

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

  • Title and description when sharing a blog post in Facebook

I want to get the title and a piece of description of my blog post when sharing on Facebook and not just a url with no text...

Problem is Matt that this is one of the things the Engineering team are just putting off and having the new web app engine and concept of "Build your own blog" to fix the issues is what is currently being run.
I know I am not the only one not happy with this approach but it is a running trend when reporting issues like with the gallery module not working right.
I am also not a fan of the current operations of bug reports where even it if it a game breaker if you try to use something because it does not work, if you the first or only one or a rare few to notice it and tell them, even in detail it wont get fixed as you know.
You have to wait for a public issue as more people realise it or a beta bug to have people moan about it live to then get fixed. But it makes BC look bad and unless your one of the few partners with a bit of clout with BC it wont get addressed unless a big enough stink is made of it.
I do not know many software developers who run this old approach and from a support stand point, while I know you cant agree or disagree with me on any of this it causes you guys a nightmare.
YOu have issues reproted, you confirm them, they stop someone doing something they need for them or their clients and push and moan at you and its with the engineers and nothing you can do other then up vote it over and over till they finally get round to fix it.
Bug fixing is one of the key things I think thats harming BC right now over new features, tags wrong, math calculation wrong, bugs preventing certain features not being useable for years...
And then new features launched with bugs on top!

  • Creating a new album on FaceBook when sharing from Photo app?

With the FaceBook camera app you can create a new album while sharing photos from their Camera app on my iPhone 5.
However, I only can see a way to upload to existing albums while sharing from the iOS 6 Photos app. Is there a way to create a new album while sharing?
    Thanks,
    doug

You need to sync all the photos that you want in one go - only the contents of the most recent sync remain on the iPad (as you've found out). If you want separate folders/albums, then the folders to sync need to be directly off the same parent folder, select that main/parent folder i iTunes, and then chose which of the folders underneath it to sync: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

  • Burning multiple shows shared from iPhoto...problem

We are new with Apple and so are having trouble with the logic...along with everything being left handed!
We loaded up our 8000 pictures into the library...
Then decided to create more libraries to handle this many pictures.
Then moved the pictures to the various new libraries.
Then started making slideshows in iPhoto and "sharing" them to iDVD.
Single slideshows build and burn fine.
Multiple slideshows process fine until the burn stage when they bomb out....error message..."errors have occurred during the burn"...wow how helpful is that!
I am wondering why this only seems to occur when I try combining 2-3-4 shows from iPhoto...
Also, we are "sharing" our shows to iDVD...no one else seems to be using this term...any explanation would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Barb,
FYI, (not that it does you any good), multiplexing is
combining the audio and video together into a single
data stream, which is really the last step in DVD
    encoding.
16GB of free space should be enough, but you might
want to clear out a little more.
Create a simple (short) test iDVD project with a new
theme and one slideshow. Can you "Save as Disk
Image" the test project? If not, try creating a new
user and see if that user can create the disk image.
Assuming you can make a good image of another
project, my guess is that one particular photo or
audio file has a glitch that is causing problems.
Any photos different from the rest? All the audio
    files the same?
    John
thanks for those clues. I have established (by making a disk image of one of my slideshows without sound) that there is a problem with image/s in that one. Ditto with another with audio.
Now, is there any advice as to how one can establish which of some 40 images is the dodgy one. Also, how can it be established what it wrong with the audio. It appears to have the same characteristics as all the other pieces in my project, as far as I can see.

  • Data lost when exporting from iPhoto?

When exporting photos from iPhoto, the descriptions of the photos (here bird and animal names) get lost.  Is this true, or are we doing it incorrectly?
    Thanks!
    Ed

It depends on how you exported.  To get the ITPC fileds written to the file it must be exported via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = JPEG and the two checkboxes checked:
That will embed the metadata into the exported file.
