Facebook Messenger iPhone question

When you see that a person is "active" on the FB Messenger app on your iPhone, does it mean that person is active on Messenger in particular or could it also be that this person is active on Facebook itself?

    If you did not change the Apple ID, yes. As you got the iPhone from another person, I would recommend you to delete everything from the device by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings, and then set it up with your Apple ID.
    During that process, you may have to type your partner's Apple ID password, so you may have to contact with her.

    I have this problem since I bought the iphone from a coworker (came as factory unlocked and jailbroken) And the push notifications is not working with any application downloaded, for example: facebook, facebook messenger, whatsapp, etc.
    I removed the jailbreak and restore to the official iOS 6.1.3, but I have don't have results, please i need help!
    Now I upgraded to iOS 7 but the problem remains.

    Amigos, soy Chileno y buscando eh encontrado la solucion por lo menos en mi caso para el problema de notificaciones para el 5s.
    Lo que debemos hacer primero es ir a la aplicacion de Facebook en el celular, entrar a configuracion de la cuenta/ luego a privacidad/ luego a sesiones activas ( en mi caso tenia 12 sesiones activas). Le di cerrar a todas las sesiones y deje solo la que funcionaba en mi Iphone 5s con ios 7. Luego de eso sali de la configuracion y desactive mi cuenta de facebook. Espere 2 minutos y volvi a activarla introduciendo mi usuario y contraseña en la misma aplicacion lo que provoco la reactivacion de mi facebook y ahora...
    La aplicacion de facebook aparecio automaticamente en el centro de notificaciones ! recibo todas las notificaciones de esta y la puedo configurar con tiras, globos, etc.
    Me despido, esperando que esta solucion les sirva y porfavor comenten si fue util mi explicacion o si falta algo !

    In a nutshell, you can't get it on the 3GS, must have iOS 7 or later.
    I highly recommend getting a 4S or newer phone.

    An iPhone 4 cannot be updated to iOS 8.
    Apps that require iOS 8 won't run on an iPhone 4.
    You should be able to use the Facebook Messenger app on iOS 7 >  Facebook Messenger on the App Store on iTunes
    If the app won't open properly, reset the iPhone.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Then try that app again.

    I have a 4th generation iPod touch running iOS 6.1.5 and an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4. On my iPod touch, Facebook and Facebook Messenger give me notifications for everything. On my iPhone, the Facebook app gives me every notification except for messages. Facebook Messenger, on the other hand, doesn't give me any kind of notification aside from the in-app notifications. I've been missing important messages on my iPhone because of this. I've set all notifications settings on my iPhone to "on." I turned on all the notifications settings in the notification center, the apps themselves, and even the Facebook integrated settings under Settings > Facebook. I also tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling, to hard booting, to logging in and out of the applications, and I even turned off Facebook platform on the computer. I was wondering if this has something to do with being online on both my iPod touch and my iPhone, but my mom has an iPad 3 (I think?) and an iPhone 5s and she never has notification problems. I've already tried Googling my problem up, but none of the solutions worked. I really hope you guys can help me. Thanks a ton in advance!

    I've already tried reinstalling and restarting both devices.  I now get comment notifications on my ipad but no chat and still nothing on my phone. I don't understand what happened. It was working 2 hours ago.

    It's happening to 3 different people I know.  Once they updated their phone, their Facebook Messenger Service is not working Correctly.  They have already deleted and reinstalled the app.
    Any suggestions?  Is this last update known to cause this?

    If deleting the app doesnt help you could try a back up and restore as new to determine a software or hardware issue. But if the app doesnt work on the iOS it is not the iPhones fault it is the apps. Apps are meant to be compatible and run on iOS not the other way around. If the app fails to run on the iOS it is something that would need to be taken up with the app developers.

  • I have the same problem faced, when I wanted down load Facebook messenger. Could anybody help me out.

    I am now using Macbook Pro Yosemite 10.10.2.
    I wanted to purchase an app free, Facebook messenger, in the apps store and clicked the tab download, the login window popped up and I put into my password. Then, STATUS_CODE_ERROR in red colour appeared.
    Result being the login window could only be cancelled. Why?
    I did not find any difficulty to login herein to write this question.
    Please help me out, if anybody can.

    If you are using iTunes to sync your iPhone or iPad you must also go into iTunes apps and delete that app otherwise it will keep installing Facebook and the new Messenger back on to your iPad or iPhone.  The following information is from Facebook forums.  I followed the directions and it seems to have taken care of the problem.  I did not enable location services and the part about swiping at the bottom did not work but I no longer have Facebook's new messenger.  I don't know if you lost the messages but I always delete them for privacy concerns.  The only problem is that you have to get to iTunes on your computer to do this.  Hope this extra bit of information helps.
