Facebook sync corrupting Faces

Anyone else having Faces tags getting incorrectly replaced after syncing to Facebook? It seems to most often occur with Faces that aren’t linked to Facebook Friends. The photos end up with two tags for the people, and the wrong one is the same name in all the pictures.
If I fix the tags in Facebook, they don’t carry back to iPhoto. Sometimes it will “is this …?” in iPhoto, but it doesn’t stick. If I fix the Faces in iPhoto, when the photo next syncs with iPhoto then more extra tags appear on Facebook and it again has the wrong Face in iPhoto. I have some photos on Facebook with 4 or 5 wrong tags. Once the photo is put on Facebook, the Face is stuck wrong in iPhoto.
This occurs in iPhoto 9.1 and Mac OS X 10.6.5. Are others having this problem?

Same here. And it takes forever to sync the photos on the library and photos on my Facebook/Flickr/MobileMe accounts.

  • ITunes syncs Aperture "Faces" when none are sellected

I find that iTunes is syncing unchecked 'albums' from my Aperture library to both my phone and my ipad.  The most consistent issue is that I end up with all of the "Faces" when I have not selected any at all to sync.
Any thoughts on how to get iTunes to sync from the Aperture library exactly as the options are checked on the Photos tab for selected albums, etc?
    Thank you,
    - Travis

The most consistent issue is that I end up with all of the "Faces" when I have not selected any at all to sync.
If you sync any image at all, that has a face assigned, the Photos app will show a Faces album, even if you do not sync the faces.
But if there are too many albums synced, you may have a corrupted iPod photo cache in your library. Try to remove it from your Aperture library.  See this knowledge base article  on how to remove it:

  • Iphoto 11 Problems with Facebook-sync ?

    Hi there from Austria,
a few months ago i installed Iphoto 11 and soon after that problems with my machine (Macbook alu, 13,3 late 2008, 2 Ghz C2D) arose.
Iphoto became very slow, also overall performance on my machine degraded. For example browsing the "programs"-folder resulted in spinning ball of death which lasted around 10 seconds...
I couldn't find out what went wrong, after reading some forums about Iphoto 11 I decided to apply some tips
    1) set thumbnail size in all albums to predefined size "3"
    2) i removed ALL facebook-synced albums from Iphoto11
After those steps Iphoto runs a lot faster and the "programs"-folder behaves like it should.
Anyone with a similar experience ? Anyone could explain what happened there ?
    Regards
    Uli

Suggests the main library is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Facebook Sync doesn't work

First, English is not my native language, so please excuse any mistakes.
I don't know if my problem is specific to OS X Mavericks, as I never used Facebook in Mountain Lion.
I wanted to use the Facebook sync for Contacts and Calendar, so I added my Facebook account into OS X accounts. I entered the email address that I use for Facebook and my password.
Whenever one of my Facebook friends posts something, I get a notificcation in the Notification center. So I thought everything was fine.
But the sync for Contacts and Calendar doesn't seem to work.
When I open Contacts, in the Facebook group, only my card shows up. There are no cards for my friends. When I open console, I see this error message:
    06.11.13 21:51:44,508 Contacts[906]: AOSKit WARN: Invalid url: https://MY_EMAIL_ADDRESS%[email protected]/15_DIGIT_NUMBER/
Also, throughout the day I see the following error message numerous times:
    06.11.13 21:27:56,150 AddressBookSourceSync[891]: AOSKit WARN: Invalid url: https://MY_EMAIL_ADDRESS%[email protected]/15_DIGIT_NUMBER/
The same goes for the Calendar. None of my Facebook events show up in the Calendar. The following error shows up in Console:
    06.11.13 16:42:09,371 CalendarAgent[181]: AOSKit WARN: Invalid url: https://MY_EMAIL_ADDRESS%[email protected]/15_DIGIT_NUMBER/
I can't really understand why this error is happening, because Facebook still works in the Notification Center.
Anyone else had this or a similar problem and know a solution? Thanks!

I just noticed the same thing today. On Mountain Lion I had the Facebook birthdays sync to my Calendar and have the same set up on Mavericks. However, this past weekend was a close friends birthday, who I am friends with on Facebook yet I never received the notification in Notification Center. I then looked at my Calendar and noticed it wasn't even on there. I looked in to it further and I am only syncing 25 contacts from Facebook in my Contacts app when I have over 500 friends. Looking in Console I saw the following error:
    11/6/13 9:57:06.294 PM AddressBookSourceSync[2505]: AOSKit WARN:  Invalid url: https://my email%[email protected]/9 digit number/
This may be a facebook server error causing this problem, but I find it strange that it is happening only after my clean install to Mavericks.

  • PLEASE HELP! Facebook synced my contact info with someone else?

so basically, I downloaded the new ios 6 and was happy with the facebook syncing with my contacts. My friend who is also an iphone user did the same and realised that my contact info on her phone was coming up with my name and number and personal email but someone elses profile picture and 'facebook email'.  when i looked at my own contact info on my phone it was the same case? i would really like to know how to get rid of this! HELLLPPP

It can not do that all by itself.
When you plugged it in, iTunes said 'Oh goody! You got a new phone! Would you like to make it just like your old phone?'...
    You explicitly said 'Yes'.
    You can't undo that.
No backup of the current state of the new phone was made. It was wiped and the last backup of your old phone was restored to it.
Anything you had on the new phone is gone.

  • Facebook sync NIGHTMARES!!!!

I have recently discovered iphoto's capability of syncing with facebook. (or should i say incapabilities, lol)
I have 2 major issues with Faces/Tags and Syncing in general.
    Faces/Tag Issue:
I have used the Facebook App on my iphone to sync my Friends with my Contacts( which is synced with the contacts on my computer). I have spent time to add Faces to a majority of my photos in iphone, however they are not translated to Facebook tags. The Names of people on the tags are correct, they are just not linked to their facebook name. This is weird since Facebook has already synced with my contacts on my iphone (adding the images and facebook page addresses to my contacts).
    Syncing Issue:
Anytime I try to edit or add new photos to the facebook albums, it doesn't sync to facebook. It either freezes during the sync, or it finishes but doesn't actually add photos to facebook. I will also have to Force quit iPhoto anytime this happens. At rare occurrences, iPhoto will sync to facebook to add the new photos, but it loses all of my facebook tags (even if the photos had 'Faces" marked from iPhoto)
I have tried deleting the preference files on these, but still having the issue. How can i fix this?

The iPhoto/Facebook name link is via the person's facebook e-mail address not their name - make sure that each one you want to show in Facebook has their facebook e-mail address included (faces page clic on the "i" and turn the entry over and check/enter their identification info

  • How do I stop facebook syncing back to iphoto?

Everytime I open iphoto the photos seem to go in both directions ie: they are re-loaded to FB and everyone gets spammed with tags but also all the dates change in iphoto like they are freshly downloaded, not just in the FB album but in the event as well. I thought I had fixed it by having a different event name to FB album name but even if the FB album has pics from a bunch of events the issue still happens.
Is it possible to stop the sync and just have iphoto upload to FB?...I feel like the program is outsmarting itself!!...and me
    Thanks
    Erikka

iPhoto syncs to Facebook (and Flickr, MobileMe). So, make a change on one place it changes the other.
You want an uploader, not a sync, so forget about using iPhoto for the job - it's just not the tool you want for the job.

Were you ever able to solve this problem? If so,
how? If not, did you see the same slowness copying
the files in Windows Explorer from the NAS to the
    iPod?
No I wasn't. To be honest I have essentially given up as even if I can fix it, disk space is cheaper than life is long!
Using the NAS in general is no problem. In fact, once iTunes got beyond the initial working out of what needed to be removed from and copied to the iPod, having all my MP3s on the NAS and copying direct to the iPod was no issue.
Following some sage (and frankly scary!) advice at ilounge (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I've decided to keep two copies of my MP3s. The fact that my fiendish NAS plan has failed is hurting more than the not-all-that-traumatic reality of duplicating 140GB of files if truth be told!

  • 4th Gen Help - dark screen, wont sync - corrupted?

Today when I brought it home to sync to my comp, it refuses. iTunes says its corrupted. I tried restoring it again, and now the screen is dark. I have reset it several times with no luck.

  • Portable Home Syncing corrupts iPhoto Library

    Server setup:
Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 (clean install)
Everything setup according to spec; works great.
    Client setup:
    Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (clean install)
    iLife '09
Portable syncing rule set to sync the Pictures folder ONLY at login and logout. At no other time is it sync.
    Bug:
Everytime it syncs; the entire iPhoto Library gets corrupted and I get a 'There was a problem syncing this file'
When I check the file, the iPhoto Library is a generic white icon with a size of a few megs versus the original 5GB. (yes I have a backup).
Any idea what may be causing this?
I cannot deploy Snow Leopard Server for my clients because of this silly bug.

    Hi all.
I'm also having serious problems concerning "Home Syncing".
So far those are my conclusions:
    • Home Syncing cannot understand when a file is locked. It will simply replace the "archived" file on the server with a corrupted and incomplete one. (Time Machine, for instance, delays the syncing of that file until it is no longer being used):
    • Because of the last problem it's impossible to use the syncing interval on the System Preferences. It's simply begging for havoc and chaos.
    • Home Syncing (again on direct opposition to Time Machine) does not understand the concept of bundles (or packages, whatever is the correct expression in English... English that I'm not a native nor a fluent speaker, sorry about that
Not being able to understand those wonderful "folders as a single file" concept makes it try to copy my full Aperture library, even if I just open and close the thing.
So it's guaranteed fun for almost half an hour every time that I do some logout sync.
    • Even using only login / logout sync, Aperture library will get eventually corrupted, as will pretty much every other item that I try to sync that happens to be a bundle (That God for 1Password automatically backup of it's own library, otherwise I would have lost all my logins passwords and Software serial numbers).
    • Every so often files that were deleted on a machine on the last day, simply find their way back at login syncing.
And the opposite also happens. Changes made in a user folder on one of the machines, simply don't replicate when a user logs in onto another one.
    • If a folder or file name is changed, Home Syncing will not understand that as a change.
Instead it will get from the server the old file/folder while keeping the new one.
Since it will copy the full content of the folder, just changing the name back to the old one, you better pray that there's not that much info inside otherwise it's time to grab a coffee and the daily newspaper.
    • Copying is slow. Painfully slow!
In a full Gigabit Ethernet connection, whose transfer while using AFP are extremely fast, Home Syncing can take 10x the amount of time to copy a similar folder.
Home Syncing seems pretty much as a 2nd class citizen on the Server package.
It's copy capabilities are way bellow of the expected, showing basic errors that were quickly fixed on Time Machine but that still remain here since (at least) Mac OS X Server 10.5.
I like this concept... actually I like it a lot.
As long as you have access to a Mac OS X Server, you can basically create your own cloud.
Even without having to sync the full home folder, just a specific "cloud" folder (something like a dropbox folder).
That connected with a Time Machine backup to allow you to retrieve older version of a file (whenever necessary) and you would have a great and safe working environment... something that I would love to do, if only Home Syncing wasn't just a big disaster.
Let's hope that Apple can figure out what's happening and release an update to fix this.

  • Can I sync specific faces from Aperture 3 to Apple TV?

iPhoto '09 allows you to pick specific Faces (in addition to albums) to sync with Apple TV. Can Aperture 3 do this?

Would you perhaps get the same functionality if you created a Smart Album?
For example, set the basic rule to +Face <includes> Chartier+ to get all photos in which you'd identified yourself or, say, members of your family. You could, of course, add a lot of refinement to the album's filter.
I don't have an Apple TV with which to directly test this, but looking at the Media browser in Keynote shows the test Smart Album I just tried, so I think it probably should work...

  • Can I disable Facebook sync?

I like to use the Faces feature of Aperture, to help me easily find photos of people. I do sometimes publish photos from Aperture to Facebook, but I don't want to tag people in Facebook. I also get a side effect of reposting albums on Facebook when I update Faces. The reposting happens without my knowledge--the only way I found out about it was people Liking and Commenting on photos that (I thought) hadn't been published for months!

I'd suggest to disable the Facebook account in your Aperture preferences - remove Facebook from the "Web Accounts" panel in the Preperences panel.
See this paragraphs in the Aperture User Manual:
Disabling and Enabling MobileMe, Flickr, and Facebook Accounts
Publishing Images to Flickr and Facebook
Then export the images your want to publish to Facebook and use Facebook's uploader. When exporting versions from Aperture, you can decide, if you want to add IPTC and Faces data.

  • IPhoto 9 Facebook sync issues

    Hi,
I was playing about in iPhoto when it started to automatically sync to my online Facebook albums. I hadn't made any changes in them, so there was no need for this to happen.
Once it started syncing I was unable to quit iPhoto until it had finished, but the process never completed despite being left over night. I was able to force quit the application, but that doesn't really resolve the issue as iPhoto wasn't really usable while the sync was being performed (probably a performance issue on my mac).
Anyone had this / have any ideas? It's version 9.1.3

Had the same thing happen again. A Work around seems to be to delete your Facebook account from iPhotos accounts list. You wont be able to upload directly to FB as a result, but in my case as soon as the never ending sync started iPhoto became practically unusable anyway, so it's not much of a loss.
You might need to stop airport initially to allow you to delete the FB account, as you can't do that while it's syncing either.
