Faces data missing; how to recover?

About 2 months ago, I verified my back-ups, wiped my drive, and did a fresh install of everything on my MacBook Pro. Many problems were solved, and all was well -- including with my iPhoto library -- until today.
Although I don't access Faces often, I had previously spent time identifying quite literally several hundred faces. Well, today I went to Faces and discovered that the entire database had been "initialized." The page is blank, as if I'd never used Faces before. I have over 26,000 photos and previously spent many, many hours organizing faces. So, needless to say, this is devastating.
Since I do have backups of my data, is it possible to restore, from a backup, the previously active faces data? Will iPhoto still "recognize" it? (No pun intended.)

Have you tried iPhoto's built-in iPhoto Library First Aid Tools? I had a similar problem with one of my libraries after upgrading the library to 9.4.1 and repairing the library brought the faces back.
Make a baclup-copy of your current library, just to be safe, the hold down the command-key and the option-key at the same time while you double-click iPhoto.
You will see the first aid panel. Select "Repair Database". If this does not help, try "Rebuild Databbase".
If this does not bring the faces back, try rebuilding using iPhoto Library Manager, see Terence Devlin's "option 2" here:

  • System crash, now a disk is missing. how to recover?

was just transferring files from one disk to another while opening a final cut project from a third disk. during the process a gray curtain closed from top to bottom of my screen witha message that somethiing serious had happened and that i needed to restart my system by holding the power button in.
i did the hard shutdown. i then restarted. everything is normal except that the disk with the final cut material on it did not mount, or so it seems.
i opened disk utility and the disk does appear there. it seems to have no partition info, though. the volume name is missing. i looked to mount it, just to see what the options might be, but the mount button is gray. i tried the eject button and, after a short wait, got the message that it could not be ejected and to make sure nothing was using it or something like that.
at this point i figured it would be prudent to stop and look into what recovery options there might be. so...
anybody got any tips as to this sort of data recovery/disk repair on a mac?
    thanks,

  • Tx Hotsync on new PC and SOME data lost - how to recover?

I recently migrated from a Windows XP to Windows 7 (64-bit) PC.
I have a Palm Tx and am using Palm Desktop 6.2.2.
I've gotten my syncing to work following the wifi instructions posted elsewhere in this forum (this is now regularly working).
But after syncing, I've discovered that about 60 or 70 of my address book entries are missing!! They are still on my handheld, but not in the desktop. Most of the time, the log says it syncs fine, but sometimes it shows that not all records are copied, and that there are 416 entries on my Desktop and 487 on the Handheld. A minor inconvenience is that nearly all the entries also have the wrong category, but am less worried about that.
Short of manually entering all the missing entries on my desktop, manually deleting them from the handheld, and syncing again, any suggestions how to get them in both places without duplicates?
I've run DBFixIt on my address book -- it says there's no problem. No idea what other troubleshooting I can do, but looking for tips!

Have you tried going into the hotsync and setting the conduit to handheld overwrites desktop. I bluetooth and cable hotsync with my TX on Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I do not have a problem with the contacts because I use the palm desktop version that came with my TX. I had XP Pro on my computer and just recently upgraded also. Your problem is real common with the palm 6.2.2 desktop version for both 32bit and 64bit computer systems.

  • In and Sent mail missing how to recover?

Running latest version of Snow Leopard. Switched over to iCloud before the drop dead date. All has been fine until this morning when my In and Sent boxes were empty of all messages. Archived and mail moved to other folders remain.
Rebuild remains greyed out. Take accounts offline and online is also greyed out.
Time Machine from last night's final backup displays the messages, but after two tries the restore function does not seem to restore the In or Sent box messages. All messages are on the server and on my iPhone and iPad and all appear in Time Machine. I just can't get them to restore.
Outgoing Mail Server is smtp.me.com.my name
How do I get mail in Snow Leopard to start playing nice with iCloud again and resync my In and Sent folders?

You are still using the Mobile Me servers which have shut down for some and are shutting down for everyone else.
You will have to make a new account using the server settings required by Apple [look here]: additionally you will have to setup the account manually, see below.

  • My Favorites didn't get imported and is missing, how to recover?

How do I find "My Favorites" and get them into Firefox?
    They do not appear anywhere.

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
*Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
*Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

  • How to recover the autocomplete data from a Time Machine backup?

How to recover the Safari 5.1.7 autocomplete data from a Time Machine backup on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?
To solve other issues (Safari crashing sometimes when saving web pages), I selected:
    Safari - Empty Cache
Safari - Reset Safari - Selected ALL - Reset
I could later on recover some Safari autofill data restoring
    HD/Users/~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    HD/Users/~/Library/Safari/Form Values
    HD/Users/~/Library/Safari/History.plist
but other autocomplete data is missing, including the one when filling web form search fields in web pages, for instance, and also some username and password login data on some web sites.
How to restore all such data from the Time Machine Backup?
    Thanks!

    I also recovered:
    HD//Users/~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    What else should I recover?

  • How to recover data in iPhoto?

How to recover data from iphoto?

I haven't done any conscious backup.
Time to start. Now. Using a computer without a back up is like driving without a seat belt. You'll be fine as long as nothing goes wrong, but if something does go wrong it'll be a much bigger mess.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How to recover the workflow after dead line is missed

    Dear friends,
my work item missed requested end date as well as latest end date. I see it in
transaction SWI2_DEAD. Is there way how to recover the work item or prolonge
    the dead lines?
    Thanks for you help.
    Regards,
    Petr.

    Hi Petr,
Could you please explain in a little more detail, what exactly you mean by "recover"?
Nothing actually happens to the work item, unless you have designed the workflow with modelled deadlines in such a way that it cancels the item and perform some or other action. Simple deadlines don't do anything to the work item, they just send out a notification and the work item remains where it is.
If on the other hand you have a modelled deadline which cancels the item and generates a new one, then there is no way to "recover" other than starting a new workflow.
    Cheers,
    Mike

  • I have a WD Passport HD attached to my Mac. When it was last connected it went into sleep mode and ran out of battery. Now I cannot find my HD in Finder and Disk Utilities is telling me it cannot repair the HD. Any ideas on how to recover my data?

I have a WD Passport HD attached to my Mac. When it was last connected it went into sleep mode and ran out of battery. Now I cannot find my HD in Finder and Disk Utilities is telling me it cannot repair the HD. I can see the HD but the volume part is greyed out. Any ideas on how to recover my data?

There are other methodologies of scanning a HD
which involve data extraction, but loss of metadata is often the result if the directory is corrupt.
Metadata is the info on what the data IS.
Like having all your papers thrown in the air, its all there, but just a giant mess.
This is why you always always must have several external HD redundancies of your data.  One isnt enough, neither is two really.
see here, and dont let that happen again>

Was that your only copy of your priceless data?  Just that one external HD?

  • How to recover a missing program

    Hi guys
Im facing an issue on our SLM system where one of the Z programs is missing. I've checked on SE38 and the program is not listed. I have tried to check on Version Management but there are no previous versions.
The only activity was a EHP 1 Upgrade, but there are no indications where this program  was modified or deleted.
I've checked the table TADIR and is present. Also checked table TSTC for the transaction name ZPWC and is also in there.
Since i dont have the original transport since its was brought from an external system, I'd like to check with you guys any idea on how to recover this program. I dont have any clue on how is missing since its not a developement system.
Any recommendation on how to restore/find this program, would be highly appreciated.
    Martin
PS: Also Checked in table VRSD if there is an entry with OBJTYPE = u2018REPSu2019 and OBJNAME = name of the deleted program and no luck.

I think you will have to go back to the original development system. The versions will be there.

  • How to recover missing purchased items from my old region???

    Hi,
Before 2 months ago I'm tried to change my region in the Apple Store and I was have a problem it I can not change the area until the reset my balance to 0 and it was I have a balance of 0.40 pounds, I contacted with the technical support at Apple and they told me should reset your balance to 0, but the balance was only 0.40 pounds and I can not buy any product because that amount is too little, So they suggested me to reset my balance to I can change my region and I have accepted this and they have already reset my balance to 0 and then was able to successfully change the region .
Now I have another problem which I can't to recover missing purchased items from my old region !!!
How to recover missing purchased items ????
    Regards,
    Aziz

You cannot use the iTunes store there any longer just as you can no longer use the food store you used to visit.  Unless you can change your country back to the one you used to use you no longer have access to purchases made there which is why it is important you keep backups of all purchases made there.
The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.
E.g., "The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE

  • How to recover backup user data after a restore

I had a disk fail and could not boot. while in the restore software I was able to backup user data to a USB drive. Now that I've restored from the restore partition and got it running windows 7 home again, I don;t see how to recover the user data made with the low level software. Windows back up doesn't seem to recognise it and I can't find an HP utility to get at it.
A program saved with the .wim back up files brought up an HP restore manager application that then copied the filed to my new C drive but how do I actually get it to recover them into their appropriate places and recreate users etc.
Or, should I just consider myself lucky to still have copies of the files at all?  I'll not be real happy about that because it will be a tom of work to recreate everything manually even with the files.
I'm hoping someone out there has a better solution for recovering all my user data into my new restored initial image.
    thanks,
    -dcb

Hello dcbrower, You may be able to use the program Universal Extractor to extract the files in the .wim file.
This is a Free program that can be found at this  Link. .
Just extract the files in the wim file to a location you would like.
