Faces Tags Gone - After New iMac Purchase

Hello. First time posting here.
This week, I purchased a new iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and used the Setup Assistant to transfer data from my old iMac (G5 non-Intel).
All my iPhoto images transferred fine to the new machine. However, none of the Faces tags seemed to have made the transfer. When I click on the Faces view, I see an empty cork board with the "To get started with Faces..." instructions.
Any ideas on how to retrieve the Faces tags from my old machine? (I have the old machine backed up through Time Capsule as well.)
Thank you.

Thanks for your help.
After going back to my old machine, I saw that actually my Faces tags were missing there too. I must have somehow deleted them while trying solve another iPhoto issue I'm having. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2253634)
So there were no Faces tags to transfer to the new machine.
Restoring from an older backup of my iPhoto Library did the trick. I now have all my old Faces tags back.
Thanks,
Mike

  • How do I Export iPhoto pictures, setting, tagging, labeling to new iMac?

Hello Apple user, I need help on transferring my iPhoto from my Power Macintosh G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) 1 GHz, 2 GB of RAM Mac OS X 10.5.8. To my new iMac intel purchase 11/10. My iPhoto is set up with named folded and event, pictures face tagged, GPS tagged, Even small note about the picture were enter.
How do I transfer all this to my new iMac, with out losing that information and the organization labeled on my photo? Alone with the slideshow, Books, Calenders folder of past purchase? Thank you all for your input Jessica...

you do not - there is not importing or exporting involved you simply copy your iPhoto library to the new machine - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • IPhoto PhotoStream not updating since new iMac purchase

I purchased a new iMac and transferred old iMac info.  PhotoStream has not updated in iPhoto since the transition.  Works on iPhones/iPads, but not iPhoto.  Tried turning PhotoStream off/on in both iPhoto and Settings.  Did not work. Any help?
    Cheers,
    Scott

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • New IMac purchase input

    Hello all
Next week I'll be purchasing my new IMac and, would be grateful for your input before doing so ...
    I'm looking at :
    Imac
    24-inch glossy widescreen display
    1GB memory
    320GB hard drive
    8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
I'll order more RAM from Newegg and max out my RAM
    For my external HD
    LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Drive
    eSATA 1.5Gbits, FireWire 800, FireWire 400,
    500 GB
Items I'm still shopping for and would be happy for recommendations :
A second monitor, I plan on running dual monitors
    An external DVD burner
Thanks for any input and advise

Your iMac configuration will be fine for FCE except that you really should upgrade the RAM at least to 2GB (and you are already planning a memory upgrade, so you'll be good to go).
Regarding the use of 3 video cams, you can certainly do this, and capture all the video in FCE ... but just be aware that FCE does not have the 'multi-cam editing' feature that FCPro has. You can still do it, but you will have to manually line up the clips on separate tracks and then scroll through the video(s) to determine where you want to cut from one cam to another, then do the necessary cuts. (There's actually a bit more to it, but I wanted to give you a general idea of how a multi-cam edit can be done in FCE. Piero's excellent QuarterPIP filter will help a lot.)
Regarding sharing your external HD between your iMac and your wife's Vista PC, yes you can certainly do that. But you will have to format the drive as FAT32 (which is a PC format) ... and FAT32 is not compatible with FCE for video purposes. You could certainly import your photos from a FAT32 drive but it won't work for video with FCE. AND, you should never connect the external HD to both computers at the same time.
    I hope this was helpful.

  • New IMac purchase - need an opinion

I am looking to switch over the mac from pc. i have narrowed it down to the 20" Imac. Different processor and ATI drive, hard drive capacity. Not sure which to buy.
I do not do games. Do internet, word processor, desktop publishing, etc.
    any users thoughts.
    thanx

I agree. In terms of your computer usage, you sound a lot like me. We do a lot of reading and writing on the computer. You should spend a considerable amount of time on a new iMac at the store to determine whether or not your eyes can tolerate the glossy screen. It really is made with movie-viewers in mind. If not, then act now and search the internet for a white iMac 20" or 24" model before they're all gone. It has basically the same speed and memory specifications as the new aluminum model, plus a far superior screen in terms of color balance, viewing angle, and overall comfort-level.

  • Very weird new iMac purchase

Well I got my refurbished 20" iMac today. To my surprise when I turned it on I found that there was no operating system installed. Upon booting the Phoenix program kicked in and started testing the mac. It went through quite a few step and then asked me to put the bar code in front of the camera for the iSight test. I thought maybe things has just changed a bit since my last purchase so I held the bar code from the box up to the iSight to see if it would work. Obviously it did not.
I then called Applecare and got someone who must have been on her first day. I tried to explain everything to her and mentioned that none of the iLife suite was installed. She proceeded to tell me that iLife only comes as trial software on new computers and iTunes was the only iLife program that can be had for free on new computers. She told me that refurbs do not get iLife which was a surprise to me.
I finally gave up and took the whole computer to the Genius Bar at my local store. After debating how it could have happened they went ahead and installed the disk image and got everything up and running. It appears that they never finished the check after refurb and somehow packed it up and sold it that way. Seems like a pretty big thing to miss to me.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
So do you have an issue that you need tech help with? This is a user to user tech support forum.
I think that the Apple Care tech was in error. According to the Specs page the entire iLife suite of apps, full version, not a trial, comes on new Macs.
You should have received the Restore Disks that originally came with your Mac model and they would have all the installed software that came with that Mac when it was new. If you did not receive the disks, I would inquire about them. Who did you purchase this Mac from?

  • INSTALLING PSE6 ON NEW IMAC (PURCHASED DISK) WOULD NOT LOAD

I have a new mac computer, OS 10, and loaded the trial version of photoshop elements 6 and then purchased the program. I tried to install using the disk, and got error message, called help desk, they got it loaded after 2 + hours. Now when I click to open the program, it takes 10 to 15 minutes if it even opens.....any ideas??

Thank you for your help! In reading another site, I got a recommendation to run a cs3clean program (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html). That worked, although I lost my In Design program, adobe flash, adope shockwave and adobe reader. There are several warnings that this would happen.
I reinstalled all programs (including the new retail pse6), and everything seems to work now. Will not be trying any more trials.

  • File allocation windows 7 (64bit) gone after new installation Creative Suite CS6

    Hi,
I've got a strange and inconvenient problem with my Creative Suite CS6. I had to reinstall the complete package on my Window 7 (64bit) (because programs like InDesign froze my OS all the time) and now all file allocation are gone. Usually it's easy to just connect them again, with right click on the file and then choosing the program you want, but for ex. photoshop is not in the list anymore. When I select it manually by going to the file tree, windows just ignores that I chose it. First I thought I just open Photoshoop first and select the psd after that and Windows will notice that this is the right program to open psd but nada. It still has no idea with which program it can open psds...
Don't know what happend there, anyone has the same issue or know how to fix it?

I installed the filetypes programm and successfully got the icon foor the file allocation back, but still it just refuse to open. The other ways I already tried... I guess something is just seriously wrong with my windows. I think the be solution is to sacrifice a weekend, reinstall windows and creative suite after that to get rid of all the bugs...
    But thanks...

  • Strange restart screen happening and advice needed on new imac purchase

Well first thing first, i just sold my imac 20" CD for a refurbished 24" iMac C2D directly from apple. The first thing i noticed is screen during the restart process that i have never seen on the multiple macs that i have owned. It looks like terminal/ms-dos with a black screen and lines of white text that indicate what is going on in the restart process. it doesnt really affect anything, i just don't really like it showing up, i would rather have the grey apple with spinning marks under it. Is this a setting somewhere that i don't know about?
And for the second thing. Because of this black screen that happens during start up i noticed.....a green stuck pixel... I am pretty picky about my things and when i noticed this i started freaking out a little bit. I know that stuck pixels are very common in LCD's i just didnt really want one in mine. I tried massaging it and all of the programs out there that are supposed to "un stick" it with no luck. I know apple is not likely to replace a unit for a single stuck pixel but i was going to try my hardest to get it replaced until......i looked in the system information and noticed that i somehow got the upgraded gforce 7600 256mb video card. So my question is should i stop complaining and take the $125 video card upgrade for free or try and get my unit replaced for my stuck pixel. BTW, the stuck pixel is only viewable on black/really dark screens and it is located in the middle display, about 2 inches right. Thanks in advance

A very tough question to answer. I am a little picky also and a stuck pixel would drive me up a wall. But have you tried to reinstall the system to see if it fixes the weird startup. Weighing the video card against the pixel I would have to go with seeing if apple could fix or repair the screen without switching the machine. If it is still under warranty they will try to no end to repair it before they just send you out another unit.
So I guess my answer is to make them repair the system thus saving you your video card.

  • Help deciding on new iMac purchase

    Hi,
I am looking at getting an iMac for my sister, who is pursuing a degree in graphics. Right now, she is just using Adobe Creative Suite, but wants to learn 3DS Max, Lightwave 3D, etc..
Would the 27" iMac with the ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics (256mb) be sufficient for her?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
    Subhash

    Hi-
Your sister is lucky to have a brother as generous as you!
THe short answer is that she will be quite happy with the 27" with Radeon 4670(256)
Note that since 3DS Max is a Windows application, she will need to set up Bootcamp to use it at its optimal speed. This means that you will also need to install (at least) Windows XP on it. Windows 7 is also a good option, with Apple releasing the official drivers for it just two days ago. You can choose the 32 bit or 64 bit of Windows. According to chatter on the web, it will work fine on even the 32 bit version.
Also, you might consider bumping up the ram to 8GB or higher, as she will be using a lot of graphics intensive programs. If so, it means she can, instead of running those apps in Bootcamp, she can also run them in Parallels (albeit at slower speed)

  • Face time gone after restore, and say's "waiting for activation"

Just restored my iphone 4 to see if that would help.
Now my facetime is gone. I have it "on" in the phone preferences, but it say's "waiting for activation" underneath it.

"Settings" then "Phone" then switch on "iFace" toggle. I had the same issue.

  • New iMac typing in all caps/symbols issue

Hello, I have a new iMAC purchased in October, 2014. About a month after using it  I noticed it began typing in all caps or symbols instead of numbers.  Whether I was online, using Word, Entourage etc. Checked online for others with same issue, did the  Command +R...or restarted the computer and that would work for a couple of days, then back to all caps.  I checked the battery, mouse/keyboard settings-everything was as it should be.  So I called Apple Support and they sent me a new keyboard/mouse, worked for 2 days then the same thing started happening.  Checked all setting again, seems like the left/right button were reversed in wireless keyboard settings so that the right button opened an icon and the left button gave options instead of vice versa.  So changed that, again the mouse/keyboard worked ok for a few days now it's back to the same thing, all caps.  Haven't had the symbols reappear though.  Does anyone know why this is happening? I am thinking of restoring to factory settings and importing my files and such again to see if that will help...unless someone has a better idea or know the cause of this?
    Thanks in advance

Could tell you for sure if you let us know what template you are talking about, but I would guess that it is because the default text box is set to All Caps. To change it go to Format Menu>Font>Capitalization>None.
Let me know if this fixed it for you. If it didn't, let us know what template you are experiencing this problem in.

  • Reinstall of Lepoard on new Imac

Would appreciate comments on re-installing Leopard on a new Imac, purchased mid-Nov 2007. I had a number of glitches to include inability to upload dig camera photos to iphotos. Tech folks could not figure out how/why various glitches happened. Senior tech, after multiple calls and one trip to the genius bar, said it is time to wipe and re-install the OS. Only things that matter are kids itunes/family photos which I backed up to a standard external HD. Before going to next step and wiping/re-installing Leopard via the "CPU drop in dvd" disk, is there anything unusual that crops up? I read the online postings and articles about the re-install topic, and I have the Pogue OS X Leopard manual where I read about 'nuke and pave', but this is my first Apple computer and I am a bit hesitant to jump in. Also, I would like to avoid establishing admin and other passwords for the family accounts but I am not confident that I know how to skip these steps when, during install, there is a prompt to establish various PWs. Comments welcome. Many thanks. Ed

Since you have an external HD, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner, Disk Utility, etc. to put a bootable backup/clone onto it, boot into it to ensure it acts like the original, pop in the install disk, select Erase & Install option, and after it restarts, use the Migration Assistant to transfer everything from the backup/clone.

  • Just bought a new iMac Sep 2012 - no iLife (iPhoto, iMovie or GarageBand) ?

I keep finding evidence on Apple pages and external sites that I should have received the iLife package already installed on my new iMac - purchased in the last few days (Sep 2012).
I have since upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - still nothing.
I'm new to Mac - am I missing something?

    Thanks everyone.
Turns out the iMac was already registered to someone else a few months before I bought it. It also kept crashing and freezing, so I'm assuming that someone else bought it, registered it, discovered that it was faulty then returned it... it was then sold to me as a 'brand new' machine.
I was not able to see any available downloads for the iLife pack as you need to register your machine before the free apps become available in the App Store. I could not register a machine that was already registered to someone else.
I questioned the store about it and they sent me another iMac right away - bit mad that they sold me a used iMac in the first place, but credit to them for sending a fresh one out quickly.
    Solved.
