Facetime acting up?

Facetime is now acting up ever since i updated to iOS 7.1. It keeps saying "Poor Connection" but my friend can see me, but i cant see him or myself... Any solutions?

You need to update your iPhone to the latest software to solve the Face Time Issue.

As to the iCloud syncing issue, what error does it show?

I have 3 apple systems.. Mac, Macpro, and IPad.. I have a seperate e-mail account set up of each but facetime is still acting like it is calling itself on the Mac.. do you have to have seperate appleID on each system?

You don't need 3 separate Apple IDs, but you do need to set up each device with a unique email address for Facetime to communicate between the devices.  You can go to Settings > Facetime and add another email address for each device.

  • My friends iPad isn't acting under the same apple id as her iPod although it is so she cannot FaceTime or I'm from her IPad and what should have happened is her devices should have streamed as one cloud under her apple I'd between her devices.

    Any suggestions?

I'd love to help but I don't understand the issue.  Please try again with periods and caps and real sentences.

  • Can't sign in to iMessage and and Facetime on Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Since I upgraded to OS X 10.8.2 I can't login to iMessages or Facetime.
When I go in my settings to login I enter my Apple ID and my password (100% it's the right one, I still purchase apps on the App Store with it) and then it acts as if it logged in, but everything is greyed out and there's a little grey spinning animation, then it asks for my password "Please enter your password for [email protected]", I enter it, wait 5 seconds, and it asks again and again and after 3 times it says "Could not sign in to iMessage" "The credentials of the registering device have expired".
It seems to me that the problem started appearing when I updated to 10.8.2, but now I restored from a 10.8.1 Time Machine backup and it still does the same thing.
Also, I created a new account to try to login to iMessage with it and it did work.
Finally, I often get a message "com.apple.dock.extra quit unexpectedly"

    HI,
The IMCore mentioned near the top of the Log  and IMFoundation are support apps on the system side of things.
It would be best to do the Mountain Lion Restore and reinstall the OS.
It may also pay to open the KeyChain Access App in Applications/Utilities and check the iMessages Certificate and passwords
    Apple ID Authentication is one.

  • Logicboard replacement came with new serial that stops me from connecting w iMessage and FaceTime. Applecare ran out and now I am sure it is this issue... How can I get apple to honor the serial mess up?

The story is that I have an imac i7 that was still under Applecare when the logicboard coraked.
I brought it in for repair and got it back. Somehow imessage and facetime would never connect anymore and come up with connection errors yet everything else worked. I tried all tens or hundreds of suggestions over hte last few months and nothing worked.
So I resorted to a clean hard drive repartitioning and install of Mountain Lion.
To my surprise: it sill did not work.
That;s when I found an obscure post that I am quite certain is the problem: the poster had the exact some symptoms I had and NOTHING worked. Hrs of phone support etc. Until it dawned on him that he had a logic board replacement after which the issue occurred. He found that his serial was no longer the same as the original item and came up as invalid on the apple website and was not listed in the "About" of his iMac.
I immediately recognized the recent support symptom and motherboard replacement and checked the rest. And behold it is all exactly as he said. He had to bring it back to the service center and they put the original serial back in and everything worked again.
Here is my problem: months of troubleshooting have passed and my iMac went out of Applecare warranty. Support does not warrant an exception for the serial online and the service center wants to get paid    I am not wealthy. This computer is my life and I need them to change the serial back to what it was when I purchased the machine. Can someone suggest how I get help. Apple is acting like M-soft in this respect.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

    --break--
So we are entirely new to Apple products. I'm an IT guy, but have always been a windows user.
So the Ipad with Retina Display is to be mine (and will use it at work for notes, organization, etc)
The MINI is for the wife.
But, are we allowed and can we.. buy an app and share that app between both devices? IE. Can I buy a copy of Angry Birds for the House and both Ipad's use that single purchase? and if so, can we still run the Ipads seperate other than to share the apps purchased. IE my facebook and email set up on mine and hers on her ipad mini?
When I finally find a note taking app I like, can I share it on her ipad, without her having all my work files, etc?
Thanks for helping out the apple noob. Hoping for a great experience, and anticipate droping $100 in apps the first day.. just don't want to do that twice. If this is against the usage policy, thats unfortunate but good to know. (I mean we can share stuff on PC as long as its in the same household)
thanks again (explanations or links are fine)

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:
    https://appleid.apple.com
Here's a limk with useful tips: Note: It's also valid in IOS 6

  • Cant get back purchases. Apple ID acts as new but it has been the same email since the beginning. What to do?

So recently i realised that my ID acts like new. It cannot get back(restore) old purchases, not even inapp purchases.
I checked my emails and exatly a year ago i got an email from apple which said"welcome to itunes store" and that newbie blah blah like i just registered, but i have the receits from earlier on the same email adresse. Please help me!

    Hi,
On your iPhone delete the Apple ID you are using (As it is linked to your husband's iPhone)
On the Mac in the Finder use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
    Select the Library that appears.
    Navigate to the Preferences.
    Find the item com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist
    Drag it to the trash.
    Restart the Messages app.
It will want you to re-enter an Apple ID.
Get your own Apple ID as Eric says.
Enter this on the Mac and the iPhone.
Sharing an Apple ID is only really good for iTunes and syncing things through iCloud.
FaceTime and the iMessages account should really have their own.

  • Can't message or FaceTime between iPad2 and iPod touch on same apple I'd

Here's my story.   Have an iPad2, works great, love it.  husband loved it too, but big and bulky, he goes with the iPod touch.  Tonight we set his up using the same apple id, because we want it to be simple and we truly want to share everything.  BUT, we want to be able to FaceTime and message one another.  Obviously realized we couldn't when the other was always busy, so I use an addtional e-mail to assign to him.  When it didn't take initally, I think ok, I need to turn off iMessage and FaceTime to get them to reset.  when I go to log back in, our apple id wasnt recognized and I eventually reset our password as a last ditch effort.  That gets me to the next screen, "what e-mail address do I want to use?"  I choose the secondary one, but it acts as if it hasn't been verified, but I've checked my settings information and it has been,  I've actually deleted and verified it twice now. I even tried the main e-mail address.  I've also powered off the touch too.  So what am I doing wrong, because at this point I can't even get messages or FaceTime to work on the touch.  I do not want to remove my log in from my iPad for fear of it locking me out there as well, but I need help! At a minimum I should be able to get our messages from both devices!  Thanks!

I decided to reset the iPod touch to factory new settings and then it worked fine.  I have no idea what glitch I came across, but am glad that I can now FaceTime and message with my husband!

  • 10.9.2 stuck FaceTime icons in vcards - can someone help get rid of them

Had to update due to SSL bug.  Apple snuck in a change to Contacts: after long chat with support today, a higher up confirmed it's a feature introduced by the upgrade, to include icons for FaceTime, video and audio chats right smack among my contact's information.  No way to remove it in the template, I'm told it's there on the basis that the computer doesn't know which of my contacts is set up for chats so it's there just in case.
I don't want my vcards cluttered up with stuff I don't use.  It slows down data entry.  I have facetime and imessages turned off and never set them up. The offending icons are now on all my vcards, even old ones.
    Anyone have a fix?
    Thanks!
    Screenshot:

I concur with the original post. The logos should move or be gone. My work flow is severely disturbed by the icons. Its really upsetting my workflow, because they are visually in the way, begging to be clicked. Exactly as Apple wanted, I assume. But my 1000+ contacts are almost all business contacts.
Accidentally hitting the FaceTime button of a business contact when I only wanted to copy or copy and paste is worrisome. I'll have to be "very careful" 50 times a day not to click the icons. And I'm not careful, I'm quick.
I have tried many contact data bases over the years — and more recently several well-known cloud contacts systems — and have decided to use the simple Apple Contacts.
Here's why; while it's missing many auto features, I have found that simple is best. Data is backed up on Apple cloud. My iPhone, iPad and Air are all in sync, always, without any thinking.
I have set up groups in contacts, which acts like tags, in that someone can belong to multiple groups. So I have groups by type of industry or by importance and also groups by where they are along the sales channel. There's a big of manual labor to click people in and out of sales channel groups, but its very quick and I like the control. I also have created team groups who I can email all at once. Also, often forget a name, but I can visually search for them by group to find them. The integration with Mac Mail makes this fool proof. The contact notes is perfect, because entering into a note on a contact does not require the "edit" button. And with shift, command, } the current date is added then I add a comment.
Since groups can not be sub grouped — a failing of Mac contacts design — I use three letter codes in all saps for each group type. So at least they line up in a logical order. For sales channel groups I use numbers, such as "2 — Proposal – Needs" so sales is on top. And alphabetically categorized by sub groups.

  • Weird thing: My Iphone 5c automatically took over a landline call while I was sitting at my desk. Really! What's more it turned it into a Facetime call.

I placed a call on my office landline, My IPhone 5c was on my desk in front of me. The person I called did not have my cell number. But I was calling his cell number from the landline. All of a sudden my landline went dead and my IPhone lit up with my picture in upper right and his picture in the main part of the screen. It was freaky. Anyone experienced this? We concluded our business with facetime. What happened?

Ok, There is only one way to solve this problem, Delete the app that you download and then restart your phone (make sure you saved your data in iCloud).
And if that don't work maybe can help you more.

Again if you want to help do so here. Drawing posters to email conversations is against the TOS of this forum.
    Anyway:
Currently there is no way to remotely hack an iPhone. If it was doing strange things it may have been a glitch or bug in the iPhone.
Have you tried restarting the phone?  Hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons  until the Apple logo shows up.
If its still acting up a replacement would be in order.

  • Why does my FaceTime and skype always hang up when someone try's to answer?

EVer since yesterday my FaceTime Skype and ooovoo have been acting weird everytime I call someone on there it always hangs up right when they answer.

Go to the Contacts app and add yourself as a contact. Make sure you add the email address that you associated with Messages. It is by default the Apple ID email address

I can FaceTime to a bunch of people successfully but the one person I always used to FaceTime with now doesn't work all of the sudden. As soon as one of us hits accept the session acts like its connecting then goes "boop boop boop" and disconnects.. I've also signed out of my iPhone and iPad and so has the other user but it still won't connect.

  • Apple Mail Acting Up

    Hi everyone,
I just got my new macbook air three weeks ago and since then been going crazy with this issue.
I added my gmail account to apple mail and it's been acting up ever since. At times it won't connect to the SMTP server (out going messages) and at times it won't connect to the IMAP (incoming messages). One of the issues is that the SMTP connection keeps going off-line and I have no idea why. Tried everything my friends/internet provider/Apple support suggested (uninstalled and reinstalled, edited the server list and added a new one - everything) but nothing worked.
I read in some forums that the problem is with the new Lion releasae but there was no mention for a fix.
If anyone can help me I sure would appreciate it. Otherwise I see no alternative but a trip to the store...
    Tnx,
    LetMyPeopleGo

You don't need 3 separate Apple IDs, but you do need to set up each device with a unique email address for Facetime to communicate between the devices.  You can go to Settings > Facetime and add another email address for each device.

  • Front face camera won't work for pictures. But it works perfectly on FaceTime, any way of fixing this?

Front face camera won't work for pictures. But it works perfectly on FaceTime, any way of fixing this?
When I try and change the camera to face front it acts like it's going to change then kind of freezes and won't let me change back to the back camera for several minutes.
    Any ways of fixing this?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Facetime won't let me sign in

My friend tried to call me on Facetime, but the call kept failing.  I quit Facetime and then tried to login in again, but now it says "The server encounter an error processing registration," even though I'm not creating an account, I'm signing in to my current one.  Not only that, but I'm using the same computer that I created my account with and that I always use.  I have had nonstop problems with Facetime and I'm seriously considering moving back to Skype if Apple doesn't get its act together.

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you start up, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but still doesn't work when you restart in "normal" mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 12
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 13
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support.
