FaceTime audio causes phone to restart?

My phone has restarted during the last two FaceTime audio calls I've made. Both happened at about the 20-30 mark, and had a weird "frozen" screen look like if a tv isn't tuned properly to an OTA broadcast signal for a few moments before hard resetting to the white screen and black apple logo. Both calls were over wifi at a hotel.
Has anyone else seen this problem?  Is it a known issue?  I haven't been able to find any other discussions on this but two times in a row can't be coincidence.

Sounds like there are random restarts being caused by the latest iOS, as it happened to me today while listening to a podcast and using an app.
It may have something to do with the audio because I haven't had this happen when audio wasn't being used.

  • Does FaceTime audio call use the Apple ID instead of email address or phone number?

My wife and I each have our own iphones.  The Facetime audio calls come through OK for each one of us, as the calls are set to be received on each of our own email address and phone numbers (so there is no issue here).  But when Facetime audio calls come through, both phones ring at the same time.  I am guessing the FT audio calls (unlike the video calls) are using the Apple ID which is the same for both our phones.  Is this the case?  And if so, is the only fix, to set the phones on different ID's?  Why are audio and video calls set up differently?

It depends upon the device that they are on - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319
To call someone using FaceTime, you need their phone number or email address. Which one you use is determined by the device you are calling:
When calling someone using an iPhone 4 or later: Try the phone number of the person you are calling first. If the person has registered an email with FaceTime, you can use that as well.
When calling someone using an iPad 2, iPod touch, or FaceTime for Mac: Use the email address designated for FaceTime of the person you are calling.
On iPad 2, iPod touch, and FaceTime for Mac, you need to add a person as a contact using the FaceTime or Contacts app before you can call them.

  • Facetime connection over phone is bad, over macbook is fine?

Whenever I FaceTime my girlfriend phone to phone our connection is usually quite bad. Lots of reconnecting, lagging, "poor connection" messages on the screen, and generally just choppy video and audio.
Whenever I FaceTime her from my phone to her Macbook, our connection is flawless. However, after a while it becomes difficult to hear her. I hear static noises and sound almost as if a fan is running in the background (I assume its her computer). Usually a simple restart fixes this.
Is there anyway to diagnose the poor connection from phone to phone? Generally when it works well, it is better than phone to macbook quality-wise

Is she in a bad cellular reception area? I am presuming that may be one reason for the discrepancy since presumably the Mac is on WiFi.
Can you try the FaceTime over WiFi only after shutting cellular data down?
Also is this only when FT with your phone or does her phone have issues using FT with anyone else?

  • Facetime calls multiple phones

I have two iphones. An iphone 4, and a iphone 5. When i receive a facetime audio call on my iphone 5, the iphone 4 also receives this call. I have checked to see if there is a conflicting email adress or phone number which could cause this but to no avail. There is no known reason for the iphone 4 to be receiving the facetime audio call meant for the iphone 5. Both phones are on the same apple id. Is there any ways to solve this?

    Yeah... don't do that...
Of course, it's also possible that the caller has both numbers listed in the same contact record for you.

    First, check
    1. Settings > General > Restrictions: should be OFF > FaceTime: ON?
    2. Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime: ON?
ou can be reached by FaceTime at: your phone number?
If all the above are correct, see below:

  • N-series phones someimes restart themselves?

has anyone noticed this at all? Have a brand new N82, few weeks old, no updates or any cahnges made. EU spec model. While surfing yesterday after a heavy nights photo taking (100 pictures and some vids) the phone just restarted during web browsing. came back up and was fine.
Is this a ram issue? I went back to the exact same webpage and tried the same link, worked perfect. so not the web browser itself, must be out of memory type error?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It can happen on any phone from any manufacturer.
The exact cause is often unknown but it could be:
    1. An application crash, either a built in app or a 3rd party app.
    2. A problem wrinting to the memory card.
    3. Unstable network conditions.  It's well known that if the phone is constantly getting a weak signal or switching between 2G and 3G it can become unstable and crash.
    4. Faulty hardware.
    5. Overheating, lots of use in a warm place can cause a phone to crash.  Some non-nokia's even lock you out from using the phone whilst it cools it's processor down.
    6. Poorly fitting battery, a bump can cause the phone to reboot.
    7. Too many (or badly designed) apps running in the background using all of the RAM.
    8. Certain badly coded websites can crash the browser and phone.
There are probably many other causes and there is no such thing as a phone that doesn't crash!

  • Facetime audio won't show up on iOS 7

I've just bought an iPhone 5s, which of course already has iOS 7 pre-installed. However, I haven't been able to do Facetime Audio because the icon doesn't show up on every contact that I have. Plus, my friends can't contact me either since their phone said that I'm not available for Facetime Audio.
    Any thoughts anybody?

    Hi,
Thank you for replying back. I've turned it on already from before. I've already used Facetime Video a lot, but no Facetime Audio ever. Like I said, that telephone icon won't show up, I've seen it from my friend's iPhone.
    Any other suggestions? Thanks :)

  • Can't call Facetime Audio contacts from Apple Watch

Why can't you call Facetime Audio contacts from the Apple Watch? All it does is hand it off to the iPhone where I need to tap a button to call using the iPhone. Even contacts with FaceTime audio can't be called from the Apple Watch. iMessage is fine though. Am I missing something here?
When I choose a contact from Friends, all numbers are there, but no FaceTime at all.

    You could leave feedback at:
    https://www.apple.com/feedback/
If I had to guess at the reason, I'd say one or more of:
    - Avoiding impact on watch battery life
    - Some constraint on the wifi watch-to-phone connection (don't ask me what - I'm guessing )
    - Feature planned for the future, but Apple following its normal practice of starting with restricted features and adding them incrementally later (as, for example, with iPhone, which had very little at first)

  • On my iPhone 4 I can play music through the speaker or headphones, but I can not get audio in phone mode, I can't hear anything nor can anyone hear me! Help. Please.

On my iPhone 4 I can play music through the speaker or headphones, but I can not get audio in phone mode! I can hear anything through the ear piece or via a headphone. Nor can people hear me when I call. I must be doing something wrong, but what?

    Hello Angela,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with sound on your iPhone.  I recommend the following steps for an issue like this:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, followthese troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • FaceTime Audio Issue? Every call from iPhone 6 to iPhone 6 uses FaceTime Audio

I have a Iphone 6.  My wife has a iPhone 6.  We have used FaceTime Audio a few times in the past to connect when I was traveling internationally and / or no reception but I had wifi.  My problem is now EVERY call is connecting us via FaceTime Audio despite NOT attempting to connect that way.  In both our contacts I have changed the phone number field labeled iPhone to the field labeled mobile From the one labeled iPhone.   We are both aware on how to make a FaceTime Video and / or Audio call and are NOT doing it that way.  Pretty strange.  Nothing against FaceTime audio but I would prefer to make the decision on when to connect that way and when to not.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

thanks for the suggestion unfortunately that did not work.  Deleated each others contacts and made a NEW one with a Variant of each others names so that it was completely new entry.  Same thing.  Every call is FaceTime audio.  I am really perplexed.

  • I updated my 3gs to 6.1.3 now I can't get mail the phone constantly restarts itself and I can't get it to Restore thanks Apple what can I do?

I updated my 3gs to 6.1.3 now I can't get mail the phone constantly restarts itself and I can't get it to Restore thanks Apple what can I do?

Im having the same problem, I updated my Iphone 4S to 6.1.3, shortly after that my phone had no audio. It was working fine one minute and then stopped. Was listening to music when sound gave out on me. It wont ring, phone just vibrates even after turning off vibration option. I've tried all the options listed and nothing. My phone has never been jailbroken either. If I connect the earphones is works perfectly. On one of my last calls received, phone's ringtone was heard for about 2 seconds before muting and just vibrating. Ringtone sounded perfect, speakers did not sound damaged.
What else could be done? I've read several post regarding this and it seems like Apple has no solution to this yet. Very dissappointed.

  • My phone keeps restarting! WHY?

For no apparent reason, my phone has restarted twice today, a couple times yesterday, why?? Are there system updates? Etc??

Welcome to Android. My first recommendation would be to uninstall the last app you put on. Not all app developers are created equal. A bad app with memory usage issues can cause a phone to crash. Some days mine does the same thing, it is still stock. I do have a lot of software loaded and that comes with the territory. If it is real bad you can also do a factory reset which will erase everything and put back on one app at a time.
