Facetime bandwidth?

I was just curious if anyone knows or have heard of what type of bandwidth will be needed for the Facetime app on the new iPhone 4. Is the requirement for it NOT working with just a 3G network a part of a deal with AT&T or does it require more bandwidth than the 3G makes available. I know that bandwidth is NOT an issue from my home network, but curious if I used a CradlePoint WAP device with my AT&T 3G card (what I'm using to access the Internet as I'm typing this now on my laptop away from home), whether it will trick it into working. I know that when apps greater than a certain size are downloaded, there is a requirement for wifi, but I have no problem downloading them using my 3G card in my laptop.

Australians have been able to make video calls via 3G for years.
Do you know how many phones have been sold that include this feature and how often is it used on a daily basis. Is it in the millions of phones that support this feature? AT&T's network may not be up to par with all telco networks throughout the world, but no other telco throughout the world has anywhere near as many iPhones on their network at the same time as AT&T does - not anywhere close, and this makes a difference.

  • What are bandwidth requirements for FaceTime?

I can't get FaceTime to work. A 'Ping' check tells me that I've got 20Mb download and 1 Mb upload. Is this enough ?  What are bandwidth requirements for FaceTime?  If I've theoretically got a fast enough connection, then where is the restriction of bandwidth occurring?   How can I find out whether the problem is inside my computer, or on the net?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

FaceTime not working on my ipad.  Also iPlayer on the ipad tells me insufficient bandwidth and so I presume it is the same problem. However, iPlayer is working well on my Apple laptop and desktop.  Any suggestions.

From what I read, this issue is affecting mostly users with iOS 6 installed on their devices.  If you are able, upgrade to iOS 7.  My mom called me yesterday with the same issue, upgraded, then it worked fine for her.
If you are not able to upgrade, you'll probably have to wait for Apple to fix whatever is affecting iOS 6.

  • FaceTime Audio for Macbook Pro?

    Loading...
Hi, Does FaceTime Audio exist on a Macbook Pro? if the answer is no? Then would minimising FaceTime Video when use give me and the person on the other end the same bandwidth usage as FaceTime Audio? i ask this due to my friends ISP in Yemen being capped!
    Thanks

Hello Antron. My only suggestion would be to ensure that all bluetooth devices are removed including any link to the isight and then reconnect the isight so that it is the only external source of audio.
    I hope this helps.

  • FaceTime never works on the first attempt

I'm surprised I don't see anything mentioned on these forums yet, because I know more people that have these problems:
Whenever I try to call via FaceTime, and the other person answers, the call get's stuck in the "Connection…" state for minutes. The second attempt is more likely to work, but it doesn't always, either. In some cases the first attempt is not even seen by the other person, even though I don't get an error message on my side. I think initiating the call on the receivers side should be more or less a push notification, right? These work fine in other applications, as far as I can tell.
My guess is that this might be somewhat network related, but the connection speed on both sides should be more then enough, and the call quality, once it starts working, is fine. I wonder if I can do some diagnosis on the connection, or if that's not where the problem is in the end?
    Cheers,
    Daniel

so effectively it's on a different drive, sort of
But still using the same reader heads as your primary drive. So technically, it's still the same drive.
I just cut a 4 angle music video last week using my MacPro at work, and even with the source media on a FW800 G-Raid, I was still getting delayed playback and couldn't even view the 4-up display when playing back. So I moved the project to our XSAN, and with the fibre backbone there, bandwidth was definitely increased.
So the other variable in this problem is bandwidth as well as RAM. I know that a fibre based storage system isn't in everyone's budget, but I'd recommend trying out an eSATA based drive, given that I had trouble with 4 streams over FW800.

  • FaceTime: Knowing how much traffic

    Hi,
Today I used for the first time FaceTime, and it is very impressive. Good image quality and without any problems. I used it with my mum, who lives at more than 2000km from me. Cool and free!!! (great jog Apple people!!)
So what I would like to know if there is a way to know the datatransfer it has used. As for me it isn´t any problem, as my ADSL line has no limit, but my moms has a limit of 8GB a month. And she uses also a lot Youtube.
So is there a way to see the traffic of data used?
    Thx,
    David

    HI dreckb33n,
Yes go through the tech guide jorma mentioned above  that will provide you a idea of VOIP bandwidth as per your use case.
BTW are you using adobe connect? which version?
    thanks

  • Iphone 5s from UAE enable FaceTime outside UAE

    Hi,
I have bought my iPhone 5s contract free  in UAE (Dubai) but im from Europe. I came back home now and i cant re enable FaceTime, altho app store worker over there told me that it was possible, but forgot to ask him HOW
    Can you help me ?
    Thanks in advance

Hi, from my experience i feel that they are carrier settings, coz i bought an iMac from Dubai, and the facetime icon is there, but when i try to contact people abroad i get a dial tone, connecting, then connection failed. They must be blocking the facetime port from the ISP.
Similarly on the iphone, i have experienced from when i bought my 2nd iphone (4) from etisalat ( First time Etisalat sells iPhone in UAE), it had facetime, but then after 2 days, the phone started having some softwares, issues i called, Etisalat, they told me to connect it to iTunes and update, after that the phone worked fine , but facetime disappeared. I am suspecting that each region has a custome tuned ios firmware in the iTunes, this is the only logical way that they can control this restriction.
So now, i am trying to find a US iOS firmware and upload it on my 5s, if this works , ill update you then my theory would be correct.
The other thing is its good that they allowed iMessage, otherwise i would have jailbreak the phone.
My last point is , i think that they do not have the infrastructure to accumulate the bandwidth if they allowed facetime, i am sure they have studied the decline in sms, when bbm, imessage, whatsapp tookover, but still they are gaining from the cellular data services part without upgrading their existing systems.
If they allowed facetime, all the 3G ,4G satellites will be flooded with facetime users, as message bandwidth is quite less, when compared to voice and video.
I am also frustrated that since, viber and skype, work, why dont they allow facetime !

  • FaceTime with 3G network

I manage to FaceTime on "3G" network.
I did it with the new iPad (64GB wifi) while connected (via hotspot) to my iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 itself was on 3G network.
I guess the iPad 'thinks' it was on wifi, thus enabling the FaceTime.
The iPhone's 3G signal was good - full signal bars.
FaceTime connection was initially very good but dropped frames after a while.
My carrier is Optus on Australian network.
This 'method' also works with downloading files larger than 50MB on 3G 'connection'.
My take on this whole 'FaceTime on wifi only' and 'download limit on 3G network' is done to help the carriers manage the bandwidth availability, as the limitation appears to be on existing infrastructure not the technology.

As this has nothing to do with the original question, you'll get more and better answers if you start another thread with a properly descriptive subject line.
You may also want to take a look at the manual:

    Best of luck.

  • FaceTime with a large amount of connections

Just found out when u FaceTime with someone
Then the browsing speed on other devices go extramly slow, and I checked the conection in my router setting, my 4s just hold 130+ conections when FaceTime is on and 30+ when it's off. Which makes the bandwidth of other devices went bad.
Any one hv a issue with this? Any suggestion?

    Hello,
1.want report just fetch the right amount of rows to display the current page
In SSRS 2008 R2 and later version, Reports are processed and rendered page by page as a report user interactively reads through a report. The amount of data on each page influences the rendering time for each page.
That means, when you preview the report, all data will be retrieved from the Oracle database, but it will just process and render the data in first page of the report, and then process and render next page when you choose to preview next page.
In order to meet your requirement, you can place a page break at the end of a specified number of rows. For example, add a group in the report and group with following expression. When a page break is defined for the group, this expression results in a page break
    every 20 rows.
    =Ceiling(RowNumber(Nothing)/20)
    2.
is it possible that the report service is changing my query to use the rownum column to reduce the amount of fetched data?
No.Reporting Services cannot modify the dataset query. But you can filter report data before or after it is retrieved for a report dataset: change the query for each dataset to filter data before it is retrieved; To filter data after it is retrieved,
create filter expressions in the report.

  • Why can't I use facetime on 3G ?

    Hello guys,
U know, facetime is really amzaing...
    But only wifi....
    Why can't I use that on 3G ?
    Anybody knows that ?
    Regards,

    http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/
You are not talking to Apple here... we are all just users like you and have no inside knowledge of why FT is not operable over 3G, except for what Apple has said about the subject. I suspect it's a bandwidth issue.

  • Multiple facetime connections?

    Good day Apple support community,
I wanted to know if Facetime has the ability to have multiple connections at one time.
I'd like to have up to 20-30 people connected to one username (if possible).
If this isn't possible does anyone know of any solutions that are native to OS X that I can use?

No FaceTime is not capable of more than one connection at a time. iChat can do a conference call of you and three others.
You will likely need to contact a company that provides conference calls for large groups. That type of enterprise requires a lot of bandwidth.

  • FaceTime freezes when same room has no problems. The picture is high resolution. There are no freezes when calling my daughter's iPad but the picture is lower resolution. Can I troubleshoot this?

FaceTime freezes when I call my son's iPad. Calling his iPhone in the same room has no problems. The picture is high resolution. There are no freezes when calling my daughter's iPad but the picture is lower resolution. Can I troubleshoot this?

Thanks Mario, but I tried everything there before posting my question. I may not have been clear in my question since I accidently recorded the whole question as the title and tried to edit. In brief: I have no trouble connecting with my daughter's iPad or my son's iPhone. However, his iPad is sending much higher resolution pictures and we disconnect after about a minute.  Oddly, he can hear and see me while my screen first freezes, then goes black and gives me a message of "reconnecting" until it quits trying and shows the buttons to end or redial. The picture quality difference is what is leading me to believe it is bandwidth related. However, I get anywhere from 5 to 10 MB download speeds; usually closer to 10. Last summer, I had 4 granddaughters on their iPads, a grandson on his gaming device and me on cell phone or pc, all using the bandwidth at once with no complaints. If there is a way to lower his outgoing resolution, I think that would help.

  • Why is FaceTime so poor on international calls?

Why is FaceTime so poor on international calls?  I continue getting "poor connections..."

The distance between the two devices does not really matter. The thing that matters is the quality of the internet connections on both ends of the conversation. Either one or the other devices is experiencing connection and/or bandwidth issues. Double-check the connection and speed for each device before establishing the connection.

  • Can I do a three-way conversation on iMessage or FaceTime?

I'm using an iPad 2, I want to to do a three-way with my friend and her sister. They're both using iPhone 4S. All Running iOS 5, obviously...
Even if there's any applications that someone knows of we could install, please answer. Thanks!

    Hi Teach,
Unfortunately conference calls are not an application that Facetime supports.  In my opinion, it would probably not work very well with personal Lan networks because it would require too much bandwidth, since streaming video does require quite a bit of it.  So for now, it has to be one on one.

  • In FaceTime calls, other person's audio cuts when mine is sending (when I'm talking)...

I seem to remember a time when this wasn't the case... Maybe I'm misremembering?
In a FaceTime call, when I'm in the middle of speaking and the other side speaks, they can't be heard until I stop speaking.
I.e. Audio only goes one way at a time it seems.
This is extremely problematic in slightly noisy areas where there's some background traffic where I am having to mute my end everytime I finish saying something just so I can hear the other person at all.
Bandwidth is not an issue, and it
Am I crazy, or didn't it used to allow me to use the headphones as well as the microphone at the same time?

I have the exact same issue... I've been using a Jabra Extreme2 and just this weekend, bought a Plantronics Marque2 and today had the same issue, so it's clearly not the headset but the phone or OS.
I might try a restore and see if it helps...
