  • Vmware Fusion Beta for Mac OSX Released Today

I don't know if this is the correct forum; if it's not, please pardon me.
VMware Fusion Beta for Mac OSX has been released today. This product, while the developers admit has some bugs in it, promises to make virtual computing a whole lot easier and would eliminate for many (not all) the need to use Boot Camp. The link for this new program is http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/fusion/
On that page you can find links for support and forums as well.
If you need a free virtual appliance to use with Fusion, then use this link http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/
Currently, there is no charge for using the BETA program. The VMWare folks are asking people to give feedback on their use of the product.
This is what we've been waiting for to purchase our new MAC. I can say without a doubt that from my own experience with Linux boxes, VMWare is the best virtual solution on the market. It's easy to configure and supports a wide variety of hardware and OSs. I can even move the virtual machines I created under Linux to my new MAC when I receive it.
The time has finally dawned for me to retire the last remaining pc towerbox in my home. My wife and I recently expunged one of those machines earlier this week and are eagerly looking forward to getting rid of the other one.
We am really looking forward to purchasing the new Mac Pro. What makes it especially appealing for us is it's scalability and the fact that we can use our current hardware, including our Kensington Track Ball mouse and current monitor with it, although we are taking a serious look at a new Apple Display as well.
Many thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this post. I am looking forward to joining and my wife is looking forward to rejoining the MAC community.

  • Messages Beta for Mac - Clears history when closed

I have a big annoyance with the Messages Beta for Mac. When I close the window and re-open it, all the conversations are gone. This makes it hard to reply to a message I got earlier or review recent conversations. On iDevices, if you close it, everything is still there, unless you delete it. This is how I think the Mac version should work, anyone agree?

this mine did this the first time, but not after that.
when I first tested messages beta, I texted a conversation, closed the window, and was surprised to see my conversations were not saved
    however.
now my messages are saving even after shutting down the messages app completely.  I turn on messages and all my chats are back where they were when I shut down.  May just be a bug, but even under preferences it includes an option to choose where to save chat transcripts - so I imagine the final version will have this worked out and all your messages will be saved how you want them

  • Messages (beta) for Mac totally inoperative

    Hello,
I am running OSX 10.7.3 and Messages beta. Location is Germany, Apple ID is working fine. Same with iMessage for iOS.
Messages for Mac simply does nothing. No matter to whom I try to send a Message, I always get the red failure badge.
Furthermore, on my MacBook Air I seem to be unable to uninstall Messages. There's always the info that I am not connected to the Interent, which is obviously not true. This does not happen on my iMac, where I can uninstall easily (same WLAN).
So for the time being, Messages for Mac just does not work at all for me. I have no old MobileMe account and my one and only Apple ID works fine for all other purposes. Exception: I am frequently being asked to verify my primary e-mail-adress, although nothing had been changed.
Since FaceTime also never ran really stable for me (and many other peole I know of), I'm beginning to wonder if Apple has a serious problem with the Apple ID identification / connection regarding FaceTime and iMessage (Mac only).
    Every response is highly appreciated.

In the meantime I was told (offline) that I have to have the DNS-port 8.8.8.8 open. I saw to that, and everything started to work immediately. Complete sync over all devices in almost real-time. AND: FaceTime seems to work fine, too.

  • Why aren't apple doing something to sort out the facetime app for mac

Why aren't apple doing something to sort this out, there is obviously something wrong as so many people seem to be having the same or very similar problems, I was about to buy the facetime app for my mac but not sure I should now
Come on apple, no use sticking your head in the sand, get it sorted.
After all, you are quite happy to take peoples money for your app, the least you can do is to ensure it works.

Backing up and restoring is not the same as downgrading.
Apple have stopped signing 5.1.1 which is why you can't downgrade.

  • How do I get the NIS toolbar in the beta for mac

It is available in the non beta Firefox for mac, why isn't it available in the mac version 24 beta?

I don't use Norton, so I can't check this, but I have a guess. Extension developers typically specify a range of compatible Firefox versions. Firefox often ignores this range so that older extensions continue to work on new versions of Firefox, but developers can state that the range should be strictly observed and then Firefox will disable the extension on non-matching versions.

  • After updating to Firefox 8 Beta for Mac, no window opens on startup.

After updating to Firefox 8 beta on Mac, I tried to open a new session. Upon starting, a pop-up appeared in the upper left corner of the screen. ([[As seen here.|http://i51.tinypic.com/2z9i99s.png]])
I tried to close it by clicking Cancel or OK, neither of which was successful. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Firefox 16 versions still work with your OS X 10.5 operating system, but that is the last version that will work.<br />
Firefox 17 will require OS X 10.6 and later.
You can see the Firefox 17 (currently in beta) system requirements here:

  • What organizer is better for Mac, iPhoto or Elements 12?

This is somewhat of a re-post because I could not find a way to respond to a reply.
Right now I have duplicate libraries and want to go to one Library.  I am trying to figure out the best way to go.  It looks like I can get the same kind of organization as in the Elements organizer with iPhoto Smart Albums but I didn't know if I could import PSD files to iPhoto and Barbara B. says that iPhoto does not like PSD files.
So if I want to be able to save in PSD I need to stay with the Elements Organizer and Editor.
To make my best decision I want to know what I am loosing in general Macbook utility if I eliminate iPhoto and go with the Elements Organizer.  I have only had my Mac for a few months but I see that iPhoto drops photos in programs like Keynote very easily.  If I stay with the Elements Organizer will I loose some utility or will I be able to drag and drop everything I need to simply?
I am asking the question because I have space problems with my 9K photos now.  I only want to delete one of these libraries once and want to make the right choice.
    Thank you.

Well, the right one is the one that works best for you. I'll start by saying that in real life I don't use either one, because I dislike asset management programs, so I have no dog in this fight.
The advantages of iphoto are that it's much better integrated into OS X, has much nicer options for slideshows and projects,  and is generally a more polished performer than organizer.
The advantages of organizer are that you can save as many versions as you like, that your photos aren't in a proprietary library (you can just file>open in any program to get at an organizer photo), and it gives you more options for working with raw.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Two other options to consider would be aperture and lightroom, too.
It's not something that anyone can answer for you. It depends so much on how you like to work.

I recently installed the new Safari Beta and have been having problems ever since. My browser constatly crashes and closes. It is a real pain in the arse. Is there any way to go back to the previous non-Beta version of Safari so i can stop this problem?

  • Safari Beta for Mac

Are there improvements in Safari Beta that would make it a good reason to update Safari 2.04 on my Macbook Pro w/OS X? I will not be using windows. Thanks

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I have enjoyed using Safari 3, especially In-line Find, expanded text boxes, better spotlight function in the Bookmarks Manager, improved tab function and faster rendering speed. Some "bugs" still exist (nature of a Beta release) such as retaining Auto-fill information for forms, in some instances slow Bookmark folder or menu rendering, and very minor instability on certain web sites. More information can be found here and here.
If you use any 3rd party Safari add-ons, such as SAFT, PicLens, or SafariStand, you'll need to upgrade the plug-ins before running Safari. Also, 3rd party PithHelmet and AcidSearch are not compatible with Safari 3.
In the PDF realm, if you use Adobe Acrobat or Reader as your PDF source, you'll need to install their most recent versions for Safari 3 compatibility.
When installing Safari 3, do not use the computer for other tasks. If you need to revert to Safari 2, the only way to do so is via the Uninstaller included in the Installation package.

  • 1080p better for Mac mini media center?

    Hi all,
I currently have a 32" Panasonic 720p HDTV hooked up to my late 2009 Mac mini.
If I leave overscan in the mini's display settings on, the top of my desktop is cut off (menubar is not visible).
If I turn overscan off, I get a black bar around the screen.
(I can't find a setting on the Panasonic to turn off overscan on the TV itself)
Do people with 1080p HDTVs have problems with overscan?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Mike

    Hello,
The TV is a Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-L32X1 32-Inch
    (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U3YK52/ref=wmsohsproduct)
It's connected to the Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI Adapter cable.
I've been through the menus on the TV many times but I can't find anything to adjust the picture.
    Thanks for your help!

  • I can not download Firefox beta for Mac OS

I'm trying to download Firefox 4 beta 12 and while it seems trying to download the dmg file, nothing happens. I faced the same problem with previous beta versions of Firefox 4. I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.6.

  • Is there a way to get iPhoto back after updating to photos beta for mac?

I recently purchased a new macbook air. I wanna transfer all my photos from my current iMac to my new laptop. I have several problems though. I did the beta program and i'm running 10.10.3 on my iMac. as a part of having 10.10. 3, you get the photos beta and no longer get access to iPhoto. i see no way of backing up your photos to an external HD using that program. There's nothing online regarding the matter either. I don't think this beta of 10.10.3 is very good either. I want to use the regular 10.10. 2. That's why i don't simply just use Time Machine. Does anyone have any tips?

i see no way of backing up your photos to an external HD using that program.
You do it exactly the same way as you do with iPhoto.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
The Photos beta does nothing to iPhoto. It coexists with it. Did you ever have iPhoto on the machine?
The only way to roll back an update when you don't have a back up is to erase the disk and start over.
