Facetime Beta issues

I'm playing with FaceTime beta on my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4. I've managed to get logged in but can't get a call to actually connect. That may be an issue with the Corporate LAN I'm on right now. My real question is this....
How do I add contacts to my list in FaceTime beta? All I can see is Apple Canada and my own information. I don't use the native email client on the Mac as I'm a Gmail guy. Does FaceTime just add contact info as you receive incoming calls?
Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Also, I hope this is the right forum for this issue. There doesn't seem to be a dedicated FaceTime section yet.
Thanks,
Networx

Sorry about that posting here. I thought I was in the MBP section but obviously didn't look close enough first. Agreed that FaceTime needs it's own discussion thread. I'll delete this post and put it where it'll get the needed feedback.

  • How do I delete facetime beta in Lion

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea how to delete the facetime beta in Lion.  I would like to update to the actual app instead of the beta but I can't figure out how to delete the beta in order to do so.  Any thoughts? Thanks
    Josh

You have to figure out where it is being launched from. The standard locations are your user/Library/LaunchAgents, user/Library/LaunchDaemons, or user/Library/StartupItems. In the first two, it will be a .plist file. In the third, it is a folder. They will be named with the company, program name, or both.

  • I'm having FaceTime connectivity issues

I'm having FaceTime connectivity issues. Every time I FaceTime other apple user the connections drops right away.

Well I'm here to own up.  My dad was over today and he has an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1 and mine ran 6.1.2.  Over the table both on my wifi I tried to call him on facetime and he tried to call me, in both cases it failed due to lost connection as previously discussed.  He said they had used it to call my brother in england yesterday with no issue.
I bit the bullet and decided with extreme reluctance to do the upgrade.  I did a full backup whilst downloading the update on my windows pc and after the sync I applied the update.  Luckily for apple's sake the facetime connection now works both ways but I'm still left with this hideously atrocious UI color scheme.  I can however report that i can see no noticable reduction in performance so far.  As per suggested on some sites I disabled automatic downloads & updates and tweaked the accessibility settings to "reduce motion" and "increase contrast" including enabling button shapes and reducing white point.  Everything seems to work fine and Thankfully I don'rt feel like I have a hobbled device.  Clearly something between 7.0 and 7.1.1 has brought iPad 2 back up to speed so to speak.
Oh and I still hate you Apple, cheers.

  • FaceTime Beta will not connect

I have FaceTime Beta installed on my iMac and iPhone 4 and on the MacBooks of two friends. I was able to make a call from the IMac in Belgium to the Macbook in the UK and to a MacBook in Germany. And also to make and receive calls on the iPhone to and from all the computers. Then suddenly calls to the MacBook in Germany failed, after it was transferred to a different wi-fi setup but with no other changes. My FaceTime calls were not recognised by the MacBook and when it tried to contact my iPhone or iMac I got a dialling tone and a "connecting" message but after that it timed out. I can still make calls from my iPhone to my iMac, so I am assuming they are set up correctly. It appears as if there might be a problem with the Deutsche Telekom modem. Has anybody had the same experience and found a solution? NB the modem is installed at home, not in an office environment.

Thanks for help. The present user has no technical knowledge at all, so it will have to wait till my next visit. I will take my Macbook Air and if that too fails to connect then the network is the most likely cause, since her machine worked on another network in Germany when visiting a friend.
    You're welcome.
    Thanks for the helpful feedback.
You have a good plan that should help you determine what system element needs to be fixed.
The modem/router supplied by Deutsche Telekom is a Speedport W 303V. I have read in a German forum that UP-n-P cannot be enabled on this model. Is this the problem? (Strange, since DT sells the iPhone in Germany).
As explained in the Troubleshooting section of http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319
port forwarding must be enabled when using router, firewall, or security software that restricts Internet access. UP-n-P is an easy way to accomplish that here in the USSA, but I have not tried to use the internet in Germany, so I do not know whether different techniques apply there.
If you find that manual port configuration is required, the Speedport's user manual will tell you how you can access the settings to configure the port identified in the link in my initial response.

  • REGISTERING FACETIME BETA

I have been attempting to register my email address on the Facetime Beta. I receive a notification that the email address I gave is in use and I'm unable to register Facetime. I was using both my Apple ID number and also tried the alternative method of entering my email address, both with the same result. I know that my email address is also registered in Applecare.
Is there a solution to this problem?

That's what happened to me when I registered, but I was able to change back both the FaceTime and AppleID email afterwards  now it shows 2 emails in FaceTime Preferences (could be a Beta thing)

  • Solution for FaceTime connectivity issue

Read this if your FaceTime sometimes works and sometimes not:
What I have experienced was that at home I could not FaceTime with whatever mac device (iMac / MacBook / iPod touch) reliably. Sometimes it was possible sometimes not.
The same devices in another network (my GF / Apple Store) FaceTime was reliable.
In another thread on AD I found this suggestion to change the DNS into the google DNS 8.8.8.8
This finally after months of trouble shooting solved the issue. I consequently changed the DNS on all devices into 8.8.8.8.
I went as far as to reproduce the fault. I changed my iPod touch DNS back into 192.168.1.1. restarted. FaceTime failed. Then a minute later changed DNS back to 8.8.8.8 and again FaceTime was possible.
I'm so happy that this is finally solved.
    iMac 10,1   Mac OS X (10.6.3)

I tried all the network DNS settings on my router and on my mac, I tried re-installing the application, I tried deleting the .plist file.... NOTHING WORKED...... HOWEVER.....
I called Mac support half hour before they closed last night, and in that time we managed to establish that the problem lies with preferences or faults with my USER account, NOT my network settings...
Try it yourself - Create another user account called 'TEST', log out of your main account completely (Don't use fast user switching), log into your TEST account and use FaceTime... Bet you it works!... It did for me!
I'm in the process of transferring all my documents and mail accounts over to the new user account I created. (As I also had other problems... Like Safari and Mail warning me ALL THE TIME that certificates weren't trusted... It was driving me nuts)
Good luck people, let me know if it works for you....

  • CS6 Beta issues

    On Win 7 x64:
I can no longer open anything from bridge or windows explorer into Photoshop CS5.  That is crazy that the beta takes over my editing preferreces automaticaly w/o asking.  How do I get them back?
Even though I have changed my scratch disk not to be my OS disk, I must run CS6 as administrator in order for it to run.  So if you open anything from CS6 bridge into CS6 PS, it has issues with file protection for the the scratch files and I cannot do anything.
Where is the little image view PCT drop  down box that is at the top of CS5 so that you can quickly set the image view to 100% or whatever?  Why doesn't my mouse scoll wheel change the image viewing percent like it does in CS5?  I cannot zoom in and out easily with CS6, this is a HUGE time slowdown.  The default darkness is not good.  I know that I can change that.  But for photo editing, who would ever want that as a default?  It should be a neutral gray.

I've got my scroll wheel working, so that is good!  But how do I get the image size quick dropdown to appear.  This is helpful for going to 100% easily.
    See attached.
As far as Bridge goes, if I "Run As Administrator", it will run.  If I do not, it bombs out right at startup.  But why?  I have the cache location pointing to a folder that any user can write to.  This is crazy that I have to run as admin to run the program.  Where is it trying write to that it does not have permission to?
Next, why does it take so much longer to open the same exact .psd file in CS6-beta as it does in CS5 (win7x64)?  It takes 107 seconds to up a 38MB file in CS6 after the program is started.  And I can get the same .psd file opened in CS5, including the time that it takes to start Photoshop, start my 3rd party apps such as all of my NIK programs, and open the file in like 11 seconds.  I have 400-1000 MB files that I often use as book pages which include smart objects.  I have not tried any of these large files yet.  But if a 37MB file takes 107 seconds to load, I can see the larger files being a real nightmare.

  • Crystal JRC 2.0 Beta Issues

In early December 2008 I downloaded the latest Crystal JRC (crjava-runtime_12.2.0.zip) from the "Beta" website.  I am using the DHTML viewer with the ViewReport.jsp and the CrystalReportViewer.jsp JSP components to display my reports.  When the report viewer displays, the popups for both the export and the print are not functional.  I can dropdown the list of export choices, but cannot select a choice and when I try to print using the ActiveX print control, I get a "communication error" and it locks up.  I am currenly using an earlier JRC version that works fine with respect to the print and export popups.  However, I am trying to test the new Excel (Data only) export with the new 2.0 version and I am having  these issues.   I have 2 questions:
    1. I tried to find if there was a new beta release available that may fix my isses but it seems the website has been completely redesigned and I can't find the old Beta website to download the JRC.  I found a link for Beta Programs but it is just informational and does not provide a download link.
    2. Any ideas on what could be causing my viewer issues ?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Ted,
Yes, I discovered the same thing with the missed URL mapping, however it only solved the print issue.  The print works fine now, but the export dialog still acts strange.  When I click the export button, the list popup comes up behind the dialog, which acts like a focus issue.  Then when I move the dialog box off and expose the list, the list is not functional.  It acts like a disabled object and I can't select anything other than leave the default "Crystal Report" option.  When I click the export button from the dialog, it does export to Crystal Report successfully, so the export callback does work.  I think this is a JavaScript issue, but can't  be sure.  Interesting thing is, the export functionality worked in the previous beta release (12.0.0.r194) !
    Thanks,
    Ken

  • FaceTime Beta (1.1.1) and FaceTime 1.0 (Mac App Store)

What's the difference between FaceTime 1.1.1 (Beta) and the one in the Mac App Store?  Am I missing out on any features?  Should I buy or no?  Thanks!

With OSX 10.7 Lion FaceTime became part of OSX.

  • Facetime Connection Issues - Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion - Facetime worked - it didn't before on Lion.
Symptoms are Facetime rings and then just sits there 'connecting...'
Thought the upgrade to Mountain Lion solved the problem, but now it's back! Have turned Facetime on and off, changed email address, changed DNS, all to no avail.
    Can anybody offer any suggestions?
    TIA
    Andrew

I'm having the same issue with a mid 2007 iMac.  I've deleted all the plist for facetime, logged in and out a few times, turned facetime on and off a few times, and restarted the system.  So, everytime I've tried to make a facetime call the receiving party's computer facetime program doesn't come on.  Everytime someone calls me via facetime on my iMac, the call will ring but never picks up.  Also, the receiving party's computer is another imac with lion.  Any ideas.  Thanks.

  • XP 64bit Beta issues for Platinum mobo

My new Platinum (MS-7030) has just arrived and I was thinking of downloading and trying the XP 64bit Beta OS. Are there any issues with the mobo and OS (i.e. Lan drivers, USB, for that matter any of the software that comes with the mobo).
    Thanks

First off i would not recommend installing WinXP64 as ur primary OS. Instead install it on another partition. There are no real benifits in using WinXP64 atm and little/no dedicated software.
If u do want to give it a try, u will need to download 64bit drivers that are not included with the cd.
The latest 64bit nforce drivers can be found here.
U will also need to download 64bit gfx drivers from either the nvidia or ati site (depending on which card u have).
If u have a creative sound card, u can find 64bit drivers here
Just remember that most of this software is beta (including WinXP64) atm so dont expect too much.

  • FaceTime Activation issue

    Hello,
I am new to Mac and when I try to log into FaceTime, I have the following error message:
Could not verify the email address. Please re-enter and try again.
My Apple ID is valid as I have used it to buy apps in the AppStore. What could be the problem?

    Hey Floogs,
Sounds like you're stuck at activating FaceTime. I found an article that is helpful with that issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268
More specifically, the following steps under "Troubleshooting Apple ID activation" are pertinent:
After each step, toggle iMessage and FaceTime off and then on again in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Ensure that you have an active Internet connection. You can complete activation using Wi-Fi or a cellular data connection. Check your Wi-Fi network using standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting.
If you receive an error when signing in to your Apple ID, visit myinfo.apple.com, sign in to your account, and ensure that the primary email address has been verified.
Ensure that FaceTime has not been restricted: Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
In Settings > General > Date & Time, ensure that Set Automatically is on. If Set Automatically is on, but the incorrect time zone is displayed, turn Set Automatically off and then choose the correct time zone, date, and time. Then turn Set Automatically on again.
Enable iMessage and FaceTime while connected to another Wi-Fi network in a different location.
When enabling FaceTime or iMessage on an iPhone, you may see "Waiting for Activation". This message refers to the activation of your telephone number only. You can use FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID even if your phone number has not completed activation. You can see that you've activated FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID here:
Settings > FaceTime > You can be reached by FaceTime at:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:

  • FaceTime rotation issue

I have an issue with FaceTime and rotation on ipad2.
When I open it in landscape mode (in which I always use my ipad), it defaults to portrait and so the picture is 90o out. I have to rotate my ipad 90o and then back again to fix it.
The same sometimes happens if I put FaceTime into the background mid-call to check an email etc and then return to the call. The image can again be back in portrait mode again.
This probably wouldn't be an issue for most people, but it is for me as I am disabled, and need help to rotate it.
Does anyone know if a fix is planned for this? Presumably it's been reported before as I've been experiencing it for a while.

I don't know that this is an issue that has ever been reported. I use my iPad exclusively in landscape mode and I have never had this problem. But sometimes rotation issues in general crop up in a number of apps. The first things that I would try is to close FaceTime completely in the recents try and reboot the iPad. This is the basic starting point that I always suggest, and if you haven't given it a try, do so now.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the FaceTime icon. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
    See if that fixes it.
