Facetime Conflict
I have a MacbookPro running 10.6.7 and just got an iPad2. The MacbookPro is used with an external monitor in clamshell mode when I am in the house.
Today, my son tried to Facetime me. It rang on the iPad but then the call failed. If I try to initiate the call, it says he is not available (even though I know he is).
What I noticed is that a facetime call is coming in, the Facetime app opens on the MacbookPro when it also opens on the iPad but on the Mac has a black screen with a No Video Available message (which makes sense because the lid is closed. This seems to confuse Facetime and the call fails.
As a test, I unplugged the external monitor and opened the MacbookPro lid. In that situation, when the Facetime call comes in, Facetime opens on both the iPad and the MacbookPro. If I answer the call on the iPad, the Facebook app closes on the MacbookPro gracefully.
I often have my computer on when I am not home or away from it and would like to be able to use Facetime on the iPad. I can't find a setting or preference so Facetime will not respond on the MacBookPro unless I want it to?
Has anyone else come across this issue?

I have a new 11" MacBook Air (2011) running Mac OS 10.7 with all current updates and an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.5. When my girlfriend calls from her MacBook (OS 10.6.8), FaceTime correctly opens on both the Air and the iPad:
- if I try to answer from the iPad then the connection immediately and consistently fails
- Answering from the Air always connects
- Answering from the iPad when the Air is shutdown always connects
- Also, I can call her back on the iPad or the Air and she is able to connect with no problems ...
So my question is how do I fix an apparent conflict between the Mac version and the iOS version?

Skype and facetime conflicting
hey all, has anyone had issues with skype and facetime conflicting, specifically with the camera,
as both apps are running simultanesouly.
PROBLEM: when your attempting to call, the video won't connect, or the call drops out,
even though your only using one app to call, whilst the other app is still open.
I don't know about most people, but I run both, as not everyone I know has a mac or iphone.
The only solution i've found, is to close one app, whilst the other is in use, to make a video call.
This is extremely frustrating if your wanting to leave them open, in case someone calls me (like a client).
I've always been a big mac fan, but this isn't a single dominated OS world, there are more than 1 OS, so running
BOTH facetime and skype is a must for business in my opinion these days.No.
In order to do this with Skype on an iPhone, Skype must include the option with their iPhone app. -
FaceTime ipad2/iphone4 conflict?

I used to run facetime on my ipad2 with no problems. I recently bought an iphone4 and tried FaceTime on my iPhone...it worked well. My concern is that after this test on my iphone I cannot use anymore my iPad for facetime : For example, when I try to contact a buddy of mine with facetime/iphone, it works, whereas when I use FaceTime/ipad2 my buddy can actually hear the beep signalling I am trying to reach him and he can see the connection message...but the connection cannot be established. Prior to the iphone purchase the connection was possible with my ipad2!
Is there a conflict between the two materials?

It is possible that your iPhone's FaceTime continues to be active, and that prevents the iPad from establishing a connection using the same E-Mail address.
On the iPad, you can double click the Home button and see a row of recent Apps along the bottom of the screen. If you can do the same on an iPhone, scroll across and look for FaceTime. Press and hold on the icon until it starts to wiggle, A red minus sign should appear on each icon. Press the red minus to remove the FaceTime App from the iPhone's list, which will also de-activate it. Then see if the iPad can work with FaceTime again.
Another possibility is to establish a second E-Mail address on the iPad, and set up FaceTime to use the new one instead.

My daughter has an Ipod, I have an Iphone. Both are on my account. When she facetimes me, I will not go through. It looks to her Ipod like I am calling myself. How do I fix this?
Thanks, kniproductionAn iPhone can only be connected to a single copy of iTunes at a time for music, movies and videos, whether or not you set it to be manually managed. Manual management only allows you to control what you put on the iPhone; unlike with other models of iPod, it does not allow you to connect the iPhone to multiple computers. If you move the iPhone to another copy of iTunes, it will erase all the content and there's no way I know of to get around it. The only way to have all the same content on your iPhone when you connect to another computer is to get all that content into iTunes on the computer first.
Why that is I don't know, but that's the way it is.
'm well aware that there exist programs where I can pull everything off my phone and put it back on once its resynced, but I'm looking for different options.

I have my kids using iTunes via thier ipods etc through my own account and this hase been the case for some time?
This has started to cause issues lately with imessaging and facetime, as there seems to be a limit on email addresses that can be associated with one account?
I wonder if I would be best off setting the kids up with their own accounts, but want to be able to do this without them losing their existing apps, music etc?
Is this possible, if so is there a simple process cos I can seem to find anything relating to this?

When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with. -
Conflict Facetime with email registered on Macbook
After updated my iPhone 4 to IOS5, it automatically assoicated with me gmail with Facetime.
However, my Macbook Pro is using Facetime with that gmail account. So when someone Facetime me on the gmail account, both the iphone and MB pro would see the call coming then both stop. I can't answer fast enough on either one. It happens all the time. People have to facetime me on my phone number for a stable connection. Or I call them back from the MB pro. I can never answer the call towards my gmail on either devices.
I've check on the phone to REMOVE THAT EMAIL but it's greyed out. anyone has a proper solution to this??? I want the iphone only get Facetime call on my phone number, not the gmail address.
Thanks.What you need to do is add another (different) Email in the FaceTime settings and then you will be able to remove / delete the gmail address from you iPhone FaceTime settings. You should then be able to get FaceTime calls on you iPhone with your phone number and FaceTime call on you MB Pro with the gmail address.

FaceTime quit unexpectedly while using the VideoProcessing plug-in.
I am getting this error when I try to make or receive calls with FaceTime. It doesn't matter if its already open or a new call. I looked around the community and haven't found anything that helps. I do not have the RazerAudio bug. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? Below is all the script that I get when it crashes. Thanks in advance for any light you all can shed on this subject!

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
My emails and factime are on one account (i.e. my MobileMe account) and my Apple ID (i.e. imessage, itunes, app store etc) is on another account. I primarily wanted to make my MobileMe account my iCloud account, however I had to create a new account to do so, so I made a hotmail account because it didn't work again with MobileMe. But now I want all the iCloud data to be transferred from my hotmail account (Apple ID) to my MobileMe account, so I then have one account for everything (facetime, mails, imessage, app store etc). Is this possible?
You can't merge accounts or transfer iTunes purchases from one Apple ID to another: but there is no problem about using two IDs.
Use your iCloud ID for iCloud for syncing email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and PhotoStream.
Use your other Apple ID as before for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match.
There's no conflict about doing this, and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts. -
Unable to use my apple id for facetime and imessage.
I recently changed my apple id so that I was not sharing the same id with my son. Now I cannot use my apple id for facetime or imessage. I can use my son's id, but not mine. (So no network errors, just an id problem.)
I am using the latest software - iOS version 8.02
My time and date are correct.
The error message I see is that my user name or password is incorrect, but I am 100% sure that I have entered it correct. Same id/pw works for icloud, itunes, etc.
Same problems exists for iPad 3 as for iPhone 5.
Is there some way I can reset my facetime/imessage settings and clear out any old data that might be stored somewhere (hopefully not wiping out the whole phone/ipad?)

Problems connecting to FaceTime
I recently purchased the IMac specifically for the Facetime feature. My wife and son tried calling me via FaceTime from our Imac to my Iphone 4, but the connection failed. Before I left for my business trip I made sure that FaceTime worked, which it did when I called my cell number. My Iphone is connected wirelessly and my facetime under settings is "on." Why can't we connect?
HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME: I signed out of Facetime on my mac and then I could sign in on my ipad. Suddenly after 50 attempts, my ipad verified instantly (it didn't even send an e-mail, it just verified instantly). I guess being signed in on my mac caused some kind of conflict on Apple's servers. Now for the funny part: I was immediately able to sign-in again on my mac and now both my pad and mac have working FaceTime. You just can't be signed in on your mac when you are trying to setup FaceTime for the first time on the iPad. I guess.

Is the apstore the only way to download facetime for my MacPro?
I don't have snow leopard...though it seems as though apple is forcing my hand going forward with Facetime and Lion being sold through apstore. Is there another way?
I disagree. It is still forcing me to upgrade twice. I upgraded from jaguar to tiger and skipped panther because there was enough of a reason at that point to convince me that checking all of the 3rd party conflicts and making sure everything was compatible, etc was worth it. I didn't update to snow leopard because I didn't see a good enough reason to do so when everything is working fine now...
While I know technology must move fast and upgrades are a inevitable, I am really getting peaved by the arrogance that apple exudes lately. Their quickness to discard PCI ports on desktops, firewire from laptops (briefly) to discontinuing hard copies of software operating systems... they can make transitions a little less painful on people and phase things out instead of completely alienating their existing customer base.

So I went on my facetime on my IPod and when I log in it says:
Facetime Activation
An error has occurred during activation.
Try again.
So I did all the thing that I thought of:
Shut down the device
Went on my wifi and went Off and then back on.
Turned on my facetime off and the back on.
Any other suggestions please my gf is at London for vacation and we went to talk and we can'tHi, I have a situation that I really don't know how to resolve, I have been using iPod Touch since the second generation and I've been using the backup to restore everytime I buy a new iPod Touch.
Now, the last iPod Touch I bought was the 4th generation 32 GB, with that iPod on iOS 4.1 I enabled the FaceTime account with email address and it worked normally.
Two days ago I got my new iPhone 4, it is on iOS 4.1 and I restored it as always, with the backup of my 4th gen iPod Touch, all worked normally.
The problem is this: I can't enable FaceTime now, I go to settings>phone and there is the on/off toggle for FaceTime, but here is what happens, I turn it ON, but when I go back to the homescreen the toggle return to OFF position by itself, I've tried reset all settings and restarting the iPhone but same happens, I think there is some kind of conflict because the iPod Touch 4th gen works with e-mail and maybe the iPhone can't read that or something like that. As a new iPhone the on/off FaceTime toggle works normally on the iPhone.
I need a way to reset the FaceTime settings but the only impossible option for me is restore as new and loose the backup that I've been using for a very long time that has a lot of information and work.

HT5219 thunderbolt, matrox, and esata drive conflicts
Hi I have a new 2012 imac 27" with two thunderbolt ports, I am using this for video editing, I also purchased the following devices:
1. matrox mini max .h264 I/O accelerator
2. laCie dual raid enclosure
3. sonnet echo pro to esata converter using the sonnet 6gb/s tempo express 34 card
all items are thunderbolt, I am on the latest 1.21 thunderbolt firmware, the latest matrox 3.11 firmware, the sonnet and lacie do not use any firmware.
Yesterday, I spent all day doing a complete wipe and reinstall of 10.7.4, I only installed Adobe Premiere Pro 6.01, with the associated apps. - encoder, bridge,
and prelude. I checked every library, system folder, extension, and preference and made sure nothing was in the system. System is 3.4ghz i7 imac 32gb of ram 1tb internal, 6790 graphics card with 2gb of vram.
I then loaded the latest matrox driver and restarted..
The issue at hand; I have recently in the last 7 days purchased all the items listed above to replace on of my two 2012 macbook pro 17" 2.4ghz laptops.
Using the matrox with one firewire drive was no problem, adding the echo pro with esata caused the matrox to crash, upon a restart of the computer with the two items installed via thunderbolt, premiere pro would crash on start up I could not start premiere pro without disconnecting the thunderbolt.
I also tested the same matrox with the lacie and tried using the dual port of the lacie thunderbolt to run the matrox, all tests resulted in either premiere pro crashing or the matrox not working. I even encountered an odd situation where the matrox would not power up. (I bought two matrox units) I was able to replicated the non powering up on both and thought both were damaged.
I did various tests over a two day period, using matrox and sonnet tech support, the only possible issue could have been my adobe creative suite version 5 and 6 being installed which is why I did the complete clean install.
I am 99% certain the issue is either the imac only has one bridge board and is split for looks, or the thunderbolt software has a major conflict with matrox's firmware. I was able to locate a certain bug with their software and the facetime camera which is now posted on their website..
I need an apple tech to tell me with certainty.
1 does the imac has two separate thunderbolt ports.
2 if each port allows 2 devices would that include items like the lacie having it's own 2 port setup.
3 would there be any chance the thunderbolt cables themselves need any kind of software updates
4. is there anything I can do to resolve this
Thanks DavidI don't have a Thunderbolt machine but according to this article, Windows doesn't support Thunderbolt at all. That means Apple had to add Thunderbolt support in order for it to work even as it does. How would a Dell have solved your problem?

Facetime failing after last update..any others having this problem?
After the last update or 2 to Lion my facetime has been failing. It will dial and it will ring if someone calls me but gives me a message saying call failed when I try to answer or the other person tries to answer(if I call them).
I am using a IMAC with OSx Lion and I regularly keep up with updates.I Have never read anywhere that Safari freezing is a major problem in iOS 8.2. With any software release, there are going to be a percentage of users that experience issues with their devices, but to state that there is a problem that needs to be fixed might be going a little too far.
There could be a number of reasons why Safari so freezing. You might have an app conflict or a corrupt setting. If you don't want to do any further troubleshooting and wait around for a fix, that's your choice. Nobody knows when the next iOS will be released so you could be waiting for a while.
By the way, I have restored to factory settings a couple of times and I never lost a thing. If you backup, restore to factory settings and then restore the backup, you shouldn't lose anything at all.
