Hi Lockies,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article below, it has some great tips that will help you get the devices connected with FactTime.
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3367
Symptoms
This article outlines the basic troubleshooting steps to resolve FaceTime usage issues.
Resolution
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, follow these steps:
Update both devices (your device and your friend's device) to the latest version of iOS.
If you started to have issues making or receiving FaceTime calls after April 16, 2014, you or your friend may have an expired device certificate. Updating both devices will resolve this issue.
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in Settings > FaceTime.
If the issue persists or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't disabled in Settings > General > Restrictions.
Verify that the date and time are set correctly: Tap Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
Verify that both parties have an active Internet connection and are connected to a Wi-Fi network or a cellular data connection.
Verify push functionality using Mail or other applications that use this feature. FaceTime uses push notifications to send and receive invitations.
Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address.
Restart your device.
If using FaceTime over a Wi-Fi network, go to the steps to resolve Wi-Fi network issues.
More information about using FaceTime and resolving issues
Learn how to use FaceTime. FaceTime over cellular data isn't available with iPhone 4 or iPad 2. FaceTime audio calling isn't available with iPod touch (4th generation).
Learn how to resolve issues with FaceTime for Mac.
Wi-Fi network issues
Make sure that your Wi-Fi network is set up using the recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points.
If you encounter issues using a Wi-Fi network, use standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting to resolve interference and other issues.
If you're using router, firewall, or security software that restricts Internet access, make sure that the ports documented in Using FaceTime behind a Firewall are open.
FaceTime requires a broadband connection. Performance might vary according to network throughput and usage.
FaceTime over Cellular
Find out if your carrier supports FaceTime over cellular.
To enable FaceTime over Cellular, tap Settings > Cellular, then turn Use Cellular Data on for FaceTime.
If you make changes to your account, you might need to restart your device for the account change to be picked up.

I am having difficuties in maintaining a Facetime connection through my ipad 2. It will generally work for 20 seconds or so, and then the frame freezes. Sometimes we have audio with a freeze frame picture. It is difficult to maintain the attention of a 2 year grandson anyway, but the the lost connections make it impossible. Any fixes?

This is a connection problem with wifi.   Either your wifi is failing, or your internet service is not fast enough for video feed.

Ok, so sometimes apple's servers may crash, temporarily. Just check the following site: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/systemstatus/
and it will notify you of any crashes. The link above is for the UK. Change to adapt to your country if you are outside of the UK. If your problem isn't listed I am sure it will be resolved within 24 hours. If this problem persists best thing is to contact apple.
    Hope this helped :)

  • Inability to maintain facetime connection on iphone4 unactivated phone

I have an iphone4 that has been deactivated for phone use; however it still should work for imessage and facetime per Apple and it has for over a year.
Now all of a sudden, I lose imessage and Facetime.
After using all of the trouble shooting tips, still no luck.
As a last resort after rebooting, turning the phone off and on numerous times, and turning airplane mode off/on, the imessage off/on, the facetime off, on, the phone off/on...I tried one more item.
I did a soft reboot - holding down the on/off and the home key at the same time and I am happy to report that the Imessage now works.
However, FACETIME connects and then the connection failed message appears and the call drops.
Any ideas as to why the FACETIME does not work - it has worked for over a year and now suddenly we lost the Facetime and Imessage.  But thankfully, the Imessage is restored but not Facetime.  Is the phone defective or is it a setting or another type of reboot - is there a way to tell?
This phone is only used by my 79 year old father to contact his 10 year old great grandson via Facetime and his mother sends him an Imessage to give him the okay to call via Facetime.
Any sincere help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I went to Apple and they fixed my IPHONE4 - they did a complete reset/restore.  Back in business as I had done everything else possible in the manual to correct the issue.  Be sure and back up data either on icloud or somewhere to keep you from losing contacts, photos, etc.

  • Facetime connection problems using Verizon mifi 4510L device

Anyone having problems with iPhone facetime connection being dropped when using this wifi device? Phone/facetime work perfectly when on other wifi connections. Thanks, Matt

The Verizon 4G network has terrible latency, so, while downloads (and uploads) can be fast, it can take them a while to get started, so any exchange that needs a fast response is likely to be unstable. The network also sometimes stops working for several seconds at a time. I have a Verizon LC-11 wireless hotspot and I'm not happy with it.

  • FaceTime connects and Apple Mail goes bezerk making noise

Each time I have my MacBook Pro up and running, with my Apple Mail app running and I connect via FaceTime to someone, the mail program starts making tons of nosie as if it's sending and receiving mail over and over and over and over again...
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Anyone know a resolution?

I have the same issue with FaceTime on my i5 iMac running 10.7.3.  If I forget to quit Apple Mail before Facetime connects, the program's alerts start sounding for no apparent reason.  The connection to FaceTime remains stable, and the person I am speaking with does not hear the sounds.

  • Facetime connection keeps dropping out

    Hi folks,
I'm having an issue when using facetime. If I talk to my girlfriend the facetime connection (using iPhone 4 and 4s) is dropping out every few minutes. We both have 30mb fibreoptic broadband (Virgin UK) so it's certainly not the connection. I have a strong wi-fi connection in the house so I don't have that issue either. She tells me she has full bars on her phone also. Its the same when I use my iPad mini so it doesn't seem to be the phone. However when I'm at work (on a ship) the connection seems to be better even though my internet there is very slow. Any ideas what it might be?

you can try downloading inssider2 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
you can also try changing the wireless from b/g/n to just b/g

  • Why am I suddenly getting audio static with FaceTime connection?

I recently started getting audio statice when making a FaceTime connection. The other person can hear me, but I get only static. The image is clear. Is this a problem on their end or mine? Is it the iPad or a router issue? Regular connection to the net is fine and playing of music from I tunes is fine with no static.
    I'm puzzled.

    shambles,
You could try to reinstall using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger):
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • I have two facetime users, both connecting to our enterprise wireless network (Cisco WCS) and they can't make a facetime connection from IPAD to IPAD.  Are there any apple protocols or other settings that need to be enabled on WCS?  No firewall involved.

I have two facetime users, both connecting to our enterprise wireless network (Cisco WCS) and they can't make a facetime connection from IPAD to IPAD.  Are there any apple protocols or other settings that need to be enabled on WCS?  There is no firewall inbetween the two connections, as this is all on our internal network.
Both devices can connect to the network, but when they try to talk to each other they can't make the connection.
    Thanks.

If anyone ever comes across this and has the same issue, here's what I did to fix it:
My Linksys router has a Network Mode setting, and I had to change it from "Mixed" to "Wireless-G only".  (I would've used N but one of the NICs in my house is too old to support it.)  Anyway, after making this change, Facetime works fine on the phone.  Hope this helps someone else!

  • Poor FaceTime Connectivity

FaceTime connection to my daughter is very unreliable.  She is on a MacBook Pro and I use either an iMac or iPad 2.
When I dial her, I can hear it ring and ring.  Over the phone she tells me she is answering and has a connecting message.
When she dials me the same is true.  I get a connecting message and sometimes we connect and other times we do not.
We are both connected to internet via a wireless connection.
Any suggestions for increasing the odds of establishing a connection would be appreciated.

Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
    The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Prefs/Network/Advanced/DNS on the Macs or Settings/Wi-Fi on your iPad will override the router settings. Try either of these;
    OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google Public DNS
    8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

  • FaceTime connection issues

I have a MBP, iPhone 4s, iPad 3, and iPad Mini. When I have an incoming FaceTime call, how do I choose which device the call is sent to/accepted by? I thought (today) of having each device accept for a single email address or phone number. I don't yet understand how FaceTime connections are made. I have the email address of a person I want to connect with FaceTime. That person's iPad (the only device) never receives the connection request. Is there a document or tutorial on connecting with multiple devices, et?
    Mike

    Hello there Mike,
Here is some information about FaceTime. The way FaceTime works is if you have multiple devices and they are all using the same Apple ID, then they will ALL get the request when somebody sends your Apple ID a request. Likewise, when you are sending a request to someone, it must be to their Apple ID or Cellular number. So to do what you mentioned, each device would have to be using its own Apple ID and thats not typically recommended as it can get very confusing.
This page tells you more about it and at the bottom shows how to set it up

  • I'm having FaceTime connectivity issues

I'm having FaceTime connectivity issues. Every time I FaceTime other apple user the connections drops right away.

Well I'm here to own up.  My dad was over today and he has an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.1 and mine ran 6.1.2.  Over the table both on my wifi I tried to call him on facetime and he tried to call me, in both cases it failed due to lost connection as previously discussed.  He said they had used it to call my brother in england yesterday with no issue.
I bit the bullet and decided with extreme reluctance to do the upgrade.  I did a full backup whilst downloading the update on my windows pc and after the sync I applied the update.  Luckily for apple's sake the facetime connection now works both ways but I'm still left with this hideously atrocious UI color scheme.  I can however report that i can see no noticable reduction in performance so far.  As per suggested on some sites I disabled automatic downloads & updates and tweaked the accessibility settings to "reduce motion" and "increase contrast" including enabling button shapes and reducing white point.  Everything seems to work fine and Thankfully I don'rt feel like I have a hobbled device.  Clearly something between 7.0 and 7.1.1 has brought iPad 2 back up to speed so to speak.
Oh and I still hate you Apple, cheers.

  • Ipad 3 FaceTime connection

CAn anyone advise me why the FaceTime connection is so poor not just mine but the person at the other end is experiencing the same problem I.e. grainy, pixelated, freezing etc etc

Videophone Apps like Facetime ( and Skype and others ) do rely on the network speed and stability alone. Data is compressed on transfer and is processed in realtime on the fly on the two persons device, that's the only part the software has to manage.
But if the Data is not fast enough coming in, then there are artefacts, pixelish videos and so . In other words  there is nothing you can do.
