"Facetime failed" messages on my iPod Touch (4th gen, iOS 5)

I have a 4th gen iPod touch running on iOS 5 and I can't connect with anyone on FaceTime. I've tried calling friends on their iPhones (using their phone number) and friends on their iPod Touches (using their email address) and each time, I get a "facetime falied" message. I've tried turning FaceTime off/on again, but it still won't work. I've also reset my iPod touch and it still won't work. I also get the "not delivered" message when I try to contact my friends through iMessage. My wifi network is very strong and I can connect on Skype, yahoo messenger and many other apps that need an internet connection without any problems. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: I changed the DNS server settings to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8) and now I can send/receive messages from other people's iMessage accounts, but where I was able to send/receive messages from myself, I'm no longer able to. It's now working at 95%, but I'd like to have it at 100%. Any suggestions or advice?

  • Location Service Problem! I Moved To A New House, and Used The Same Wifi, But My iPod Touch(4th Gen. iOS 6) Is Still Using My Old Location/Address and Not My New One, How Do I Fix This?

I Moved From New York To Florida, But Kept The Same WiFi/Router, But The Maps App and My iPod Touch(4th Gen. & iOS 6) Is Still Registering My Location In New York.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen. iOS 5.1.1 - Sleep Mode and Other Questions

    Hello,
I have an iPod Touch 4th generation with iOS 5.1.1
    1) RE: Sleep Mode - I found this on another thread and it's regarding iOS 4.3.1.
Is the same still true for iOS 5.1.1?
If so, what is recommended for sleep mode - Airplane mode or Wi-Fi off - or is either one ok?
Wi-Fi is always ON with the 4th generation model running 4.3.1 when it is sleeping unless you either turn off the Wi-Fi or turn Airplane mode ON.
    2)  I only use my iPod Touch on my home Wi-Fi and do not use any cloud based syncing or iTunes Wi-Fi Sync.  I do all my syncing manually from my MacBook Pro via USB to the iPod Touch.  The way I do things is purchase what I need from my MacBook Pro via iTunes and then manually sync it to the iPod Touch.  But there may be times, in the future, where I would want to purchase directly from the iPod Touch.
I recently updated my AppleID with my new email address via my MacBook Pro.  But, I noticed that on my iPod Touch under "Settings" "Store" that it still shows my old AppleID.  I have all Automatic Downloads set to OFF.  How do I update the iPod Touch to reflect my new AppleID?
    3) When I'm using Safari and I navigate to several websites, how do I easily get back to my home page (which is set to Yahoo!)?
Probably a dumb question but I can't seem to figure it out.  I've set Yahoo! to my homepage but I would think there should be or is (and can't find it) a button/icon like on my MacBook Pro Safari to take me directly back to the homepage.
Thanks in advance for the help!

    - Unless you use bluetooth, airplane mode and wifi off are the same as regards to battery drain. I like use airplane mode sinc that is directly under Settings.
    - Go to Settngs>Store and sign out of existing account and sign in with the updated one
    - I have no idea for the Safari question

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen - iOS 5 problems?

I'm sure I'm the ONLY person in the WORLD having issues, but ever since I updated my 4th gen iPod touch to iOS 5 I have regular sync problems, it is slow to respond when coming out of the screen locked position and it for some reason when it did decide to sync it sync'ed stuff in my iTunes that was not checked.  I know that I'm an iIdiot, but is there ANYONE else on Earth experiencing similar difficulties?  Is it possible to roll back the OS to the previous release?
I appreciate any and all comments.
    Regards,
    Frustrated in Fairless Hills

Not like you quite but I can empathize.
When I loaded iOS 5 onto my ipod Touch (5th gen I think) i suddenly lost space to "others" about 5Gb which is significant on a 32Gb ipod.
I had to do a complete reset through itunes and now I have loaded back about 150 songs of 5000 in about 2 hours.... I am flying to Australia tomorrow morning I onder what I will have to listen to !!!

  • Ipod touch 4th gen ios 7

I got my ipod touch fourth gen 2 months ago and its already considered outdated.I was wondering if i could trade it in towards a 5th gen.

Apple will only give you a 10% recycling discount if you turn in an old iPod when you purchase a new one. Better off selling it yourself.

  • HT1918 How do i change the phone number on my apple ID account so i can use messaging with my Ipod Touch 4th gen?

How do I change my phone number on my Apple ID account? Not the number for billing. I got a new Ipod touch and when I was setting it up my emails where correct but the phone number was wrong. The gentlemen at the Apple Store told me just to go on my account on my computer and change it but i cant find where. Only part i know how to change is the billing number. Thanks.

If you can remember them their current answers you can login here and change them : https://appleid.apple.com , click on 'Manage your Apple ID' and then 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of your account's page
If you can't remember their answers and you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then see if the instructions on this user tip helps you get them reset : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551

  • IPod Touch 4th gen iOS 6.0.1 keeps crashing

    Hello
My iPod keeps crashing when I open certain apps, like the App Store and also a magazine that I subscribe to that has its own app.  I have to close all the open apps and then do a reset (hold down both on/off switch and the home button).
This solves the problem, but it's frustrating to have to do it every couple of days.
Any idea what the problem is?
    - too many apps "open"?
    - iOS 6.0.1 running on a 4th generation iPod Touch?
    - too many apps on my device? (I have 2.8 GB free of 32 GB total)
    - something else?
    Any suggestions/advice/information will be appreciated.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod touch 4th gen ios 6.1.2

i got problem with this device..i cant use google maps because it cannot determined my location..whenever i try to open maps it says your location cannot be determined..im connected to wifi router and tried to reset the device location services and turn on location services too! but still cannot detect my location..i tried opening goolge maps on my iphone 3gs ios 6.1 using same wifi router and my phone able to detect my location..is there any problem with my ipod touch? i tried to restore my ipod already but still give me this error! help please! ( location: metro manila philippines)

Go to a wel known place like Starbucks and see if location works, If it does, then that convirms that your router is not in Apple's database.
. Apple continuously updates their database based on data it obtains from iPhones. No one has found a way to tell apple to correct/add a wifi router to their database.

  • My Ipod Touch 4th Gen IOS 6.1.6 deletes songs

    Product: iPod Touch 64gb
    Product Version: 6.1.6
    iTunes Version: 12.1.1.4
I connected my Ipod Touch to Itunes on my 2nd laptop a few days ago and it deleted all my songs!! (50GB worth). I reconnected to my main laptop to try and restore but it immediately done a back up so I was unable to get a proper restore. I decided to just go ahead with deleting all songs and starting from scratch on the 2nd laptop after restoring the Ipod, but after adding 2000 songs last night and leaving it syncing overnight I got up this morning to find they were all deleted. I tried adding a few songs and watched the songs copy & sync, but within a few minutes they are deleted from the Ipod.
I have done this procedure before without any real problem, so why is this happening now & is there a fix? I did update itunes in the last few days, so is there a bug? Or could it be related to the itunes store being down.
    Any help appreciated

Hi, as I found on another thread, the only way round the problem was to delete iTunes and re-install an older version from somewhere like file hippo.com. I used 12.0.1 but unfortunately I had tried to restore my iPod previously and lost all my songs, so had to copy 64Gb worth again :-(
If you do reinstall ensure you go to preferences & turn off auto check for new version

  • IPod Touch 4th gen (iOS 5.0.1) song duplicates but not on iTunes

I have some songs on my iPod Touch, and they're shown doubles (album is shown twice with same songs also). It takes up memory on my ipod and it's annoying!!! PLEASE REPLY!! THANK U <3

All you can do is try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS ver 6.1.3) wifi cuts in and out. No other devices affected.

It was fine up until a few days ago when I noticed the wifi turning off while asleep (I was missing many notifications). Yesterday I noticed the wifi coming and going under normal use (in the middle of messages, checking weather, looking on Facebook, etc).
I've done the following to no avail:
    Turned device off and on.
    Turned wifi off and on.
    Renewed lease.
    Forget network and rejoin.
    Turn wifi off and on.
    Reset network settings.
Nothing is helping and it's frustrating trying to keep in touch with my family (via Facetime and iMessage) when the wifi doesn't stay on long enough to send a short message. My home button doesn't work, so I haven't been able to try and restart that way (holding home and power button simultaniously).
Also, my iPod is the only device in my home that is affected. My laptop, 3DS, and Wii, as well as my roommate's laptop, iPhone, iPad Mini, and PS3 are unaffected. These devices are all usually used at the same time and we've never had an issue before (even when friends bring over their devices).
Any help would be appreciated, as for this thing is the main way I keep in touch with my family (they all live out of town).

Did you power off and then back on the router?
Have you tried different locations since maybe interference is causing the problem.
Does it happen when connected to other networks?
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
