FaceTime failed on imac

Posted this same question over a week ago, no answe yet, hoping somebody can help me.
Other devices (ipad 2) on same network connect fine. The iMac connects fine using iChat but not facetime. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the facetime application and still constantly getting "facetime failed" message. Cannot send or receive. Currently have facetime Version 1.0.2 (166).

Just a guess,
Go to FaceTime > Preferences (in the menu bar) and see if it is turned on.
Hope it helps.

  • Keep getting "FaceTime failed" when trying to make calls from my iMac

I am trying to make FaceTime calls from my  iMac.
So far it has not worked at all. No matter what number I try to call (I am calling people who have FaceTime enabled iPhones), it rings for a while and then I get "FaceTime failed".
Any ideas what it could be?

  • "FaceTime failed" cannot receive or make calls

I'm on a 2010 MacBook pro and whenever I try to make facetime calls, it immediately says "FaceTime failed" without ringing or anything for all of my contacts. When I receive a call, it rings but it has the same message when I try to accept the call. I've tried everything on the support page and have even changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I also tested it out while tethered to my iphone's LTE and it had the same problem, which rules out network problems.

    Hi,
There are many threads here that report people have taken their Mac to an Apple Store and have had the Serial Number "replaced".
However in those cases the Mother or Logic Board had been replaced in  a Repair or Refurbishment.
To Reinstall an earlier version of the OS by using the DVD Install disks you would have to Insert them then Boot the Mac from that Disk.
Then you would have to open Disk Utility from the Menu bar and Erase the current OS and other contents before you could run the actual Install.
This does lose everything on that Drive so it is best to create a Back up First.
I am not sure what else to suggest.

  • My FaceTime on my iMac has stopped working but it still works on my ipad whats wrong

My facetime on my imac has suddenly stopped working and will not accept my password, it still works on my ipad what is wrong

Either the physical drive or the enclosure electronics has failed. The light you are seeing is powered by the USB connection, the power, electricity, all USB ports put out. That doesn't mean the actual physical hard drive or the USB to SATA bus electronics are working properly. If it doesn't show in Disk Utility then it is DEAD.
Most of the time it is the enclosures electronics that fail. Removing the physical drive from the enclosure and put it in another enclosure or using a SATA to USB adapter, one that has it's own AC power supply, might allow you to get the files off the drive.

  • Immediate "FaceTime failed"

After trying every fix, troubleshooting and KB article out there, I'm turning to this discussion board as a last resort.
My problem with FaceTime is specific to my iMac and probably with my current user account.
I've had no problems running it on my MBP from work or on my iPhone.
I orginally joined the FaceTime beta and when the first version of the OSX FaceTime app went on sale I bought it. I think somewhere in between upgrading the beta to the "App Store" version, something went wrong.
Logging in, and activating my account works fine, however when I want to make a call I get an instant "FaceTime failed" message. No ringing, nothing.
Also receiving calls on the iMac ends with the same message as soon as I press "Accept": FaceTime failed.
I've purged every preference file, log file, literally everything I could find with the name "facetime" in it from my computer, to no avail.
When I check the "console" the only messages I can find that make sense are the following:
    27-05-14 22:52:04,330 FaceTime[627]: com.apple.message.domain: com.apple.FaceTimeX.callEnded
    com.apple.message.result: fail
com.apple.message.signature: failed with reason 16 (Could Not Invite), error 0 (No Error)
    com.apple.message.duration: 0.000000
    com.apple.message.endedreason: 16
    com.apple.message.endedError: 0
    Sender_Mach_UUID: 349D76DA-7BE8-39AD-878F-6F01BD0E8A64
Does anyone recognize this problem? Is there a way I can "restore" the FaceTime app (like completely removing it and reinstalling it)?
My last resort is to ditch my user account I've had since OSX 10.4, which I don't prefer.

I am having the same problem.  I have also tried everything I could find, but did not purge any files.
Very frustrating.  Mine was working fine a few weeks ago, now I can't connect over my Iphone or my IMac!

  • FaceTime Failed....  Mac running Lion

I launch FaceTime on my Mac (Lion) and log in normally.  I click on a favorite and FaceTime 'rings' on the other computer.  The other computer accepts the call and both computers display 'Connection...'.  After 10 seconds or so, I get a 'FaceTime Failed...' message.  This happens whether I'm initiating or receiving a call, and whether I'm calling another Mac or an iPhone or iPad.
    Solutions?

I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro.  Both are running Lion.  I'm having the FaceTime problem on the MPB.  The iMac works perfectly.  Maybe I should reinstall Lion on my MBP?

  • FaceTime Failed - Your Computer is Busy in another Facetime Call

    Hi Everyone!
Here's the deal!  My mom's iMac on Lion 10.7.1 cannot initiate nor receive Facetime calls.
    When I call (iPad2, iPhone4):
    FaceTime Failed:
<xxxxxxx> is not available for FaceTime
When she tries to call me:
FaceTime can't initiate the call.  Your computer is busy in another facetime call.
She gets this message, even after rebooting her computer.
I made sure that her credentials are logged in under the Users/Groups tab.  MobileMe has the credentials as well.  Firewall is Off.  So I am at wit's end right now as to what to do next.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!  I need this FaceTime to work since I travel a lot, and don't always have access to my MBP and iChat Video (which works).
    Cheers!

Just LOG OUT the user and then log back in.... That worked for me!

  • My wife and I each have our own apple ID's which we use on our own iPhones and iPads. We share an iMac. Is there a way of enabling Facetime on the iMac to accept calls to either of our IDs without the need to login as that particular user?

no, when using facetime you log in with the apple id you want people to reach you at, so unless you both agree to share one apple id for all the facetime you do, it will be necessary for you to logout and login each time you use the application.

  • When I try to activate my FaceTime from my iMac is says the server encountered an errorprocessing registration. Please try again later. Please help

When I try to activate my FaceTime from my iMac is says," the server encountered an errorprocessing registration. Please try again later." Please help. Any ideas

    Back up all data.
Take the steps suggested in this support article:
FaceTime, Game Center, Messages: "There was an error processing registration" when signing in
    Sign out of iMessage:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
Then sign back in with your verified credentials. Note that the password of some Apple ID's will expire periodically.
If you get the same error, try resetting the NVRAM.

  • I have two apple products registered to the same apple id.  I would like to use FaceTime on my iPad while out of town.  I need to do FaceTime to my iMac at home (both iPad and imac are reg. to same id).  It won't let me do it, help?

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

when i try to place a call to someone who has FaceTime on an iPod Touch, she says she doesn't receive any calls and i get eventually get a "FaceTime failed" after a few rings. if the other party calls me (i'm using MacBook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.1) and i answer, at first, it will say "Connecting..." then it will then show a "FaceTime failed". Somehow, it just fixed itself.

I can't get FaceTime to connect. I have tried various changes to Firewall settings, logging out and in of FaceTime, checking clock settings and still no joy.
My Wi-fi connection is running fine
I have a 9MB download speed and 0.82MB upload speed
My brother is on a new iPad and can FaceTime other people but when ever we try to FaceTime each other it rings on the device and tries to connect, but then says "FaceTime failed"
    PLease please please help

    This solved my problem...
I took some advice to add a new (unregistered with apple) email address to my facetime account.
I did this and was asked to login with my registered email and password.
    I then got the dreaded
"The server encountered an error procssing registeration, please try again later " issue that so many others were getting.
I then folowed this thread which solved the problem.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15658737#15658737
basically I had to comment out some extra server rows I had in my host file. Then a restart was required.
in case you don't know, here's how to edit hosts file in lion
