FaceTime fails to connect snow leopard imac

The setup is a home network with ethernet to an up-to-date snow leopard iMac and the WiFi on the same subnet, running off of a Linksys wft54g with the latest firmware. uPnP is enabled on the router.
From a Macbook Air with Lion on a network at work, I can call and receive FaceTime calls to the iPhone on the home WiFi network.
However, FaceTime rings but fails to connect on the iMac.
So, Facetime to/from iPhone is going through the same home router over the same network using the same DNS, etc.. and it works.
But Facetime to/from the iMac does not. I've tried with the firewall on/off on the iMac as well as google DNS, etc., with no luck.
If the Lion MBA is on the same network, all works fine.
Any ideas? What is different about Facetime btw iPhone and snow leopard iMac that causes this difference?
Much appreciated.

HI. I have a macbook air 1.3 ghz intel core i5 / 4gb 1600 mhz ddr3, and i use OS X mav 10.9.4.
Today i tryed to conect facetime either to another same macbook air or iphone 5 and i cant see my camera image.
Facetime opens and i can get audio but no image at all.
Preferences are not available on menu. if i click, it goes gray (notjing shows up) then its impossible to see it.
I have tryed reinstaling os x and also reset smc and nothing worked so far.
I open photo both and image not showing also. open skype and camera preview not showing.
Could it be a problem with my camera? if so, why cant i log in my facetime preferences??
Tks

How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

Connect the two via Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new iMac normally.
If you are starting the new iMac for the first time then do the above before you turn on the new iMac. After you turn on the new iMac you will begin in the Setup Assistant. When you complete the registration screens you will be offered an opportunity to migrate your data from another Mac. Follow the instructions to migrate your old Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences to the new iMac.
If you have already gone through the Setup Assistant and created an initial admin user account, then you do the connection step but will use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder of the new iMac.

I backed up 6000+ photos from Snow Leopard iMac v.10.6.7 to new Western Digital "My book" successfully, I think! But when I attempted to COPY my photos to it in order to free up space on my HD, I made a mistake. When I dragged the iPhoto (11) Library to My Book and re-named it to "iPhoto Library.old" nothing happened. So I dragged it again, re-named it again (same name--that was the mistake, I guess!) and then it took about an hour+ to do its thing. When finished and I launched iPhoto by holding down the Option key, the dialog window listed two libraries: "iPhoto Library.old" and iPhoto Library.old (default)". So now what? It seems that I still have the originals when I open iPhoto, and do I have two copies, also? Should I delete one of them and if so, which one and how? Or should I eliminate both of them and start over again? And if so, how do I do that? Right now, neither my HD nor the My Book have changed the number of GB available or free since before I began this process. Will the numbers only change after I actually delete my original Library AND empty the Trash? I appreciate any light you can throw on this subject for me. I could lug it all to the local Genius Bar, but now I'm afraid to unplug anything for fear I'll lose everything! Thank you, you wonderful, bright people. (An 83-year-old Grandma, trying to keep up a little, at least)

Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but  maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).
Is there some way that I can rectify my mistakes and start all over?
Thank you so much for  beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message  that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!
So your kindness is very much appreciated.

Facetime failing on connect. OS 10.7.5 how about you?

Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue. You can leave feedback for Apple at the link below.

  • Snow leopard iMac fails to start up have time machine - what next?

I have an iMac which is powering up the showing a spinning icon and the apple logo. But it goes no further. I have tried presiing shift on start up and zapping the pram but no improvement.
For a while the iMac has been failing to start up but always did second time round.
What is the strategy here? I have an external drive with time machine backups and the snow leopard install disks. I also have access to extra external hard drives and a mac mini.
What would you recommend and what is the issue?

    Hi ukcfuser;
Where is Time Machine backing up to?
Hopefully not your system disk because it may have filled it up which can prevent you Mac from starting.
I would suggest that you boot from the install DVD for your Mac. Let us know that results of that.

  • Ipad 4 connecting to a snow leopard Imac?

I just got an Ipad 4, I am running snow leopard on both of my computers, when I plug my Ipad into my computer it says I need the newest version of Itunes, but the newest version of Itunes requires that I have at least lion OS. Anyone have any suggestions? All I want to do is drag some PDF's from my computer to my Ipad, so far I have been emailing them to myself, but they are all at least 10mb each and I want to get about 150 to my ipad.

OK. I thought that your response seemed odd to me. Makes sense now.
You can try this - but its not an "out of the box solution". Apps like GoodReader (from what I have read anyway) will work with iCloud. You could install GoodReader on the iPad, set up iCloud on the iPad and then go to your iCloud.com account on your Mac and drag the PDF files into the browser window and the off files should appear in GoodReader on the iPad.
I can tell you that you can access iCloud.com from a Mac running Tiger 10.4.11 because I do it here in my office. It's not an ideal solution, but it would probably work. There are aspects of iCloud that work with lesser OS X versions on a Mac and this is one way that it does work.

  • Slow wifi on Snow Leopard iMac

I have just moved into a new house and have a new isp.  Everything is installed and working great but I'm haveing speed issues, only on my iMac.  We are supplied with a 30mbps internet connection and most of the time get that.  I have tested it on my MacBook and 30mbsp or there abouts is what I always acheive but I am struggeling to get internet at all on my iMac.  The iMac is newer and I didn't have any problems before in my old home. I have tested the speeds with the iMac and MacBook placed next too each other and generally I only get 1mbps on the iMac and 30mbps on the MacBook.  What could be causeing this and what could I do the fix the issue?

    Andy,
I've heard (read) on other discussions here that people using that Virgin Hub report issues with Snow Leopard and Lion.
Could you eventually check if the Virgin unit provide a own network name e.g. "home" or "workgroup", please?
If the settings of the Virgin contain such a configuration, you should change that (if possible) to "local" to match your Mac's settings.

  • Facetime 1.05 for Snow Leopard - stopped logging on

    Hi all,
Has anyone figured out how to get Facetime 1.0.5 to login on Snow Leopard? (last updated April 2014)
I put in the correct Apple ID and password and it still says "Incorrect Apple ID or Password". Facetime works fine for me on every other device.
It appears that Apple acknowledged in November 2014 that something broke, but there has been no update since 1.0.5 released in April 2014.
OS X: FaceTime calls no longer connect when using Snow Leopard - Apple Support
Any possible solutions? I have also tried app specific passwords to no avail.
    Thanks.

  • HT1338 After reloading OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard iMac wont install updates

iMac wont update after reinstalling OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard

If I recall correctly the gray bar could indicate that a firmware update is installing, or that the system is checking the hard drive.
I've run out of suggestion since without the Install DVD's we can't boot the system to run Disk Utility in order to verify the hard drive. It might be a good idea to give Apple a call to see if they can help you get a set of replacement install discs.
The other option is to find another working Mac and connect the two systems via a compatible Firewire cable. Once connected turn on your iMac with the issue and hold down the 't' key in order to place the iMac into the Target Disk Mode. This should allow your other Mac system to mount your iMac's hard drive as an external volume. If nothing else it would allow you to backup your important files.

  • Cannot Burn CD-R on Snow Leopard - iMac

    Hi there,
I've tried several times to burn a CD-R on Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I get an error message "The disc can't be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006E)." I am trying with Verbatim CD-Rs, 700 MB, 52x speed. I read posts that others couldn't burn DVD's, I have no problem with DVDs but I'm using Memorex DVD-R. Verbatim CD-Rs are my problem.
The drive starts the burn OK, but when it reaches anywhere from 10 to 20% of the burn it fails. Also, as the burn is in progress (writing from around 5%) there is a loud noise that begins and it continues until the burn fails. The disc doesn't eject every time either.
I also show an "Untitled CD" with a burn icon in my Places list under Finder. Rebooting the system doesn't clear this. How can this be removed?
I had no problems burning CDs or DVDs in Tiger or Leopard; it seems to have only commenced after I upgraded this almost four-year-old iMac to Snow Leopard. All the CD-Rs and DVD-Rs are brand new from spindles, no dust exposure.
What can I check? Would a lens cleaner help? Which are the best to use in this situation? Why is it that CD-Rs are my only issue and not DVD-Rs?
    Guidance and suggestions appreciated.
    Lynn

I take it back -- for me, it's a hardware issue. I started to theorize that maybe my SuperDrive is overheating, and when I boot into Linux maybe the time it takes to shut down the MacBook and reboot into Ubuntu is just enough time for the drive to cool off enough so that it'd burn CDs.
So, last night I tried something: my goal was basically to run the **** out of the MacBook in Linux and see if I could still burn. I booted and was able to burn two CDs, then had a problem with a third, then a fourth worked, and then my fifth attempt was nothing but failure. Got all kinds of errors no matter what brand of CD-R I tried.
I don't have AppleCare -- I used Best Buy's extended warranty instead. (That has saved my butt on many occasions, including at least one time when they didn't really have to honor it.) Unfortunately, that probably means they'll have to ship my MacBook to California for service. (That's my only gripe about Best Buy -- you could bring something to their techs and want something as simple as a piece of tape removed from, say, the strap on your digital camera and they'll send it to California...)
I've had my MacBook nearly two years -- I still have it in my possession but I'm already going through withdrawal in expectation of being without it...

  • How can I import contacts from Snow Leopard iMac to my Mavericks MBP without replacing all of the contacts.

*** Updated - FIgured this out right after I posted... I simply selected all contacts on the iMac, exported as a .vcf then dragged that into the MBP contacts ***
    Problem solved...
    *Original Question*
I have a MacBook Pro (MBP) running Mavericks... syncs contacts via iCloud with my iOS devices.  My iMac is an original intel model from 2006 which can only run Snow Leopard.  I have many contacts on that iMac that I would like to copy into the contacts on my MBP.
I used the 'Address Book Archive' feature on my iMac - transferred that to a flash drive then tried to import into the MBP contacts at which point it said it would replace the contents on my MBP... something I do NOT want to do.
Does anyone have a way of bringing all of my iMac contacts in to the MBP without replacing?
I appreciate any help...  Thank you !
