FaceTime "freezing"

So I have Facetime on my MacBook and my iPhone 4. I use FaceTime often with my best friend and his iPod Touch. Recently though his FT has been freezing so to speak? As a conversation will ensue his screen will randomly go black. He can still talk to me and hear me and access the rest of his phone as if it were still working and I am able to see him through my device(s) but he can't see me.
Does anyone have any idea what that is about? Or let alone how to resolve the issue? Please and thank you

I am having the same problem, except my screen doesn't go black. My screen started to freeze when my boyfriend switch to cable Internet. (He was facetiming me from his Mac notebook)He was using Wifi before. I update my software on my touch but still having the same problem. Maybe later on it will kick in.

FaceTime freezes when I call my son's iPad. Calling his iPhone in the same room has no problems. The picture is high resolution. There are no freezes when calling my daughter's iPad but the picture is lower resolution. Can I troubleshoot this?

Thanks Mario, but I tried everything there before posting my question. I may not have been clear in my question since I accidently recorded the whole question as the title and tried to edit. In brief: I have no trouble connecting with my daughter's iPad or my son's iPhone. However, his iPad is sending much higher resolution pictures and we disconnect after about a minute.  Oddly, he can hear and see me while my screen first freezes, then goes black and gives me a message of "reconnecting" until it quits trying and shows the buttons to end or redial. The picture quality difference is what is leading me to believe it is bandwidth related. However, I get anywhere from 5 to 10 MB download speeds; usually closer to 10. Last summer, I had 4 granddaughters on their iPads, a grandson on his gaming device and me on cell phone or pc, all using the bandwidth at once with no complaints. If there is a way to lower his outgoing resolution, I think that would help.

Why does facetime freeze when I try to connect?

First, try a reset: hold down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go.

How do I fix  it when Facetime freezes, shakes, then turns to green?

The memory that is low is the processor memory, not the overall storage space.  Next time, before you go to that site, double tap the home button to see the task bar.  You will see the list of apps siting in the recently used list.  Most of them are not doing anything, but some of them are using up memory.  Touch and hold any one of them until they jiggle, then close them all off by touching the minus sign.
Do that every so often to help the pad use it's memory wisely.
Some apps, and browser pages use a lot of memory, and do not give it back easily, causing what sis happening to you.
You can also get a similar result by rebooting.  Press and hold the home and sleep buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.

  • Ipad 2 facetime freezes

Can anyone give an advise about Ipad2 3g, bought last August 2011.... and facetime freezes??

FaceTime only works over wi-fi, and not 3G.
If this is not the problem try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • FaceTime Freezing and Frustrating

This has to be one of the most frustrating issues I have ever had with an Apple product--and I have been using them since 1984!
FaceTime on my iMac 27", Mid-2010 Model, running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50), with 16 GB, started freezing up when a call is answered. No video (except a frozen picture), no sound at all, then a message "Call Failed" or "FaceTime Failed". This happens whether the call is to (or from) my friend in Hong Kong, or to (or from) my wife's iPhone in the next room.
I have tried everything. Turning FaceTime off, then back on. Rebooting the computer. Changed FaceTime sharing and Permissions. Opened it in 32-bit mode. Signed out, then back into my mobile.me account. Changed my email address me.com to mac.com. I tried to move FaceTime to the Trash, to download a fresh copy, but that is not allowed by the System. I have no firewalls up, nor do I have anti-virus software running. I have even closed all other applications and run FaceTime by itself, to no avail.
What is really frustrating is that FaceTime runs on my iPad 3 and my iPhone 4, with the precise same settings I have on my iMac--and on the same WiFi network.
I am going to run Yasu and reset all my permissions as my next attempt to fix this vexing problem, but I hope someone can solve this. I know I am not the only one having this problem, and it really needs to be resolved.

Me-too'ing here: I'm experiencing the same problem, or more correctly my wife is while I'm away from home. She's on our home network which is using a TrendNet TEW-637AP running in mixed b/g/n mode. We've never experienced wifi disconnects during other iPhone operations including streaming 1hr+ Netflix shows. Every time we make a FaceTime call, the call disconnects after 5-10 minutes and her wifi bars turn to 3G just like everyone else here. She can refresh the wifi by reconnecting to the network, but that will last only another 5-10 minutes of FT.
This is certainly not an uncommon problem, but I have yet to see a solid solution. Like here, some report a new phone fixes the issue while others experience the same problem. Likewise switching out of N seems to cure it for some but not others. I can remote into the AP and will try setting it to b/g mode only to see if we notice a difference in our ability to sustain FT calls. I'll try to report back in the next few days if I can.

  • IPhone 4 to iPhone 4S FaceTime freezes iOS 5.0.1

searching to no service to service to searching to no service to service...
todays date (in case you missed it) ... 12-22-2011
I did NOTHING to change my iPhone4.  I was literally at work from 12:00 noon to 9:00pm.
All of a sudden, at 5:00pm, my iPhone4 decides it needs to constantly goto "searching" then to "no service" then back to "searching" then to "AT&T [5 Bars] 3G", then back to "searching" to "No Service" to ... you get the idea...
It continued with no end in sight.
Once home, after 4 hours of having a useless iPhone4 for 4 useless hours, I (to my wife's dismay) went to my home office to research if anyone else had a problem with this.  Mind you, I had latest Apple iOS 5.0.1...
    FFWD 3 hours later.
I found the post before my current post.  (by Shaun00013)  It lead me to hope (not believe) that if I used iTunes to do a backup of my iPhone4, then "Restore to factory defaults", then Restore iPhone from backup that my problem would be solved...
... (yes, I know i use too many "..."  so don't mention it!)
Now that I've done the backup / restore factory defaults / restore from backup: problem solved.
... [  :-)  ]  It's been 30 minutes with no repeat of my original issue!  YAAY!
This whole experience reminds me of a corrupted windows installation.  I didn't realize Apple iOS had the same issue...
I don't know if someone sent me an email with an iPhone virus ( is that even possible?!)  Or if my iOS just shat itself... but I know this post lead me to fixing my issue.
Hope this post of mine helps you too. If it does, sign in with your AppleID and tell us about it.  Then, the next poor helpless iPhone owner experiencing this issue will find this post faster through Google.
Gnite!  Hopefully I won't be back to this site anytime soon...

  • FaceTime freezing & disconnection with EVERY CALL!

I have always had problems with FaceTime working without having some type of screen freezing & disconnection (began using in 1/12) but it seems like this problem with FT has gotten dramatically worse...especially since the ios6 update. Our home cable Internet works fine as well as the wireless connection. So I personally doubt it is a internet connection issue. However, I have 3G installed on the iPad as well and it spontaneously quit working (something the 3G on the iPad did to disconnect itself) for about a month and during that month that the 3G was not activated I had no problems with my FaceTime calls freezing or disconnecting and I had calls that lasted the better part of 30 minutes.
I live abroad and use FaceTime to stay connected with my family. I must must must find a solution to this problem! Can anyone give some advice, please? I will say that I've done as much research as I could about this issue and although it seems it has been a common problem with FaceTime, I didn't find that 1) apple acknowledges it as "problem" with any part of their operating system or application or that 2) anyone else has found the real culprit for this problem or a solution for that matter.  And yes, after each call freeze/disconnection I do restart the ipad including the FT application and place a return call. Doing so has made no difference.
    Please Help!!!

I've thought about that...uninstalling the iOS 6 update...to be truthful, though, I'm not quite sure how. Yet, I still feel like that would only partially remedy the problem and I was hoping that someone someplace in the Apple community, if not a Apple tech themselves, would have a solid answer for the root of the problem...whatever it may be.
I will look at uninstalling the update and ask if you find anything that helps FaceTime work better to please please let me know! Should I find the magic solution...I'll pass it on.

  • TS3367 FaceTime freezes

FaceTime keeps freezing every few minutes. Anyone know why?

Is it just the video but the sound continues? Try force quitting the app and trying again. Double tap the home button, hold your finger on one of the apps down there, press the red minus. Another thing you may want to try is restarting the device - it could be running low on RAM. it's good to restart your device every so often DO NOT do the hard reset, just hold the top button until it says slide to power off and then power it off. Wait 15 sec, power on.

  • FaceTime freezes with iOS 8.1

I have been experiencing all kinds of issues since first downloading iOS 8.0 thriugh the update 8.1.  Very upset.  Today my issue is with FaceTime on iPad 2.  If the call goes through, it frequently freezes up. ending call and recalls do not go through.  Restarting sometimes resolves it.  In addition, I can no longer switch camera view.  Whenever I do, it freezes.
Any help would be appreciated.  So frustrated now that I am considering going to Android!

HHe's. A simple visit to Settings, disabling and then immediately re-enabling the feature fixes the issue. But just for a while.
APPLE: Do you hear us?  This should be a VERY easy issue to resolve. It's pervasive, well documented, and utterly annoying and frustrating. Please issue a fix ASAP.
