Security and privacy system preference not working after Lion install.  Not sure if it happen with Lion installer or after updating. What to do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

    I'll try your suggestions....Thanks!
Recently, I try to Re-install Snow Leopard, unfortunately, still unsuccessful.
The Mybook Icon only appears if it is connected via USB.
After using Firewire and getting used to the speed...USB 2.0 is like a Corvette racing a Veyron...lol
I am not upset on these issues, it is normal for new OS to have these problems...unfortunately, even OSX is not invincible.
I'm sure Apple/Steve is on every Programers A*s for a solution.
I still think APPLE'S OSX will still be the future of Operating system!
For now, still waiting for the patch and hopefully soon.
Suggestions are still Welcome for a Solutions:-)

  • Final cut pro x not working after Lion install.

So i installd Lion yesterday but now Final cut pro X is not working... it starts up but is never usable...it jammz right away...
    I use a Macbook Pro 15 inch. 2.53/8gb

Also have this issue - the only "fix" at present seems to be renaming the /Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser to something like _iLifeMediaBrowser and then launching FCPX - it runs straight away.
This also fixes a similar issue with iMovie 11 under 10.7
Really nasty bug that needs looking into from Apple, I'll file a bug report.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 does not work after lion installation

After I installed Lion in my MacBook Pro, Microsoft word 2008 failed to work properly. Each time I try to quit word an error message appears and word closes and reloads automatically. The only way I can now really quite word is by the 'Force quit' option (in the apple menu). Word was working properly with Snow Leopard, so no idea what happened there... Any hint? Thanks

Ok, did exactly what you said... To 'make word crash' I only had to open it and then try to 'quit' it, in crashes 100% of the time...

  • Scrolling/other gestures not working after Lion upgrade - Any suggestions?

So far the only gesture that seems to work on my iMac with Magic Mouse is the two fingered swipe to the left and right to switch between full screen apps / mission control / etc.
Scolling, double click to open mission control, etc do not work despite options selected in the Mouse preferences pane.
Have trie swapping mouse over but no joy and my Macbook, which is also upgraded works with no problems.
Any suggestions to try and get things working would be gratefully received.
    Michael

I'm using a Logitech Performance MX mouse and after installing Lion, the calibration or whatever is messed up. For example, whereas before I would scroll the wheel on top of the mouse to move down the page or document, doing so now moves me UP the page (and vice versa, scrolling the wheel away from me toward the screen moves me DOWN the page). I don't see a fix for that in System Preferences. I can probably adapt, but should I really have to?
Yes, I know, Apple wants me to use the trackpad now rather than a mouse. Well, sorry. I am set in my ways.
When I open the Finder to find a photo, my windows are also inverted. Items that were at the top of the list are now at the bottom and I don't see any way of inverting back as you could before. What the...?

  • IPad wi-fi not working after Lion and cloud updating

Updated to LION OS 10.7.2 and updated iTunes today along with updating to the "cloud."
    Updated iPad to 5.0.1.
    Wi-fi is not working now.
On my desktop iMac I went into system preferences and went to "sharing" and have "internet sharing" checked. This is how it was working before.
I am trying to finish my iPad update. When I get to "wi-fi networks" it shows my iMac G5 but just keeps searching after I try to select it. It will not connect to my wi-fi. How do I get it to work????

I am using an intel i3. When I said above about my G5...that was just what my computer was named. I have a new iMac but when information was transferred it must have kept the name of it as my G5.

  • Facetime, iMessage, and Mail not working after iOS 6.1.3 update

I've had my iPod touch 4th generation since Oct 2010 and never updated the iOS until very recently. Before the update, Facetime worked consistently and easily. After I finally got around to updating my iOS a week ago, my iPod has come into severe issues.
99% of the time, I cannot send or receive Facetime calls. If I try to make a call, it doesn't make the dial tone and eventually it just says "Connection Lost". Nothing happens if someone is trying to send me a call. I only Facetime with my boyfriend and his iPod hasn't changed since Facetime was last working. HIs other iPod is also updated with iOS 6.1.3.
I never used iMessage before the iOS update, but because it says on Apple support that it uses push notifications like Facetime does, so I tried it. Most of the time, I cannot send or receive messages. I rarely used Mail before the update, but I never had a problem with it. Now, when I enter my gmail password, it keeps saying my username and password are not correct, even though I haven't changed my credentials.
I only use my iPod for Facetime, iTunes, and Pandora. I don't need iMessage or Mail, but I am testing with those to see if this can help find the root cause of the problem. Pandora works smoothly so I know it's not a wifi connection issue. I have searched for remedies on end and tried:
    1.  Reset, turn off/restart, turn Facetime on and off, etc.
    2. Changing the DNS server address to 8.8.8.8, which made Facetime work normally for one time and never again
    3. Updating my Apple ID password online, then signing out and signing back in
    4. Creating another Apple ID with my other gmail account. Maybe 1 out of 10 Facetime call attempts, I can generate the dial tone, but when my boyfriend clicks to receive the call, it says that I am unavailable. iMessage has about the same success rate. It seems when I miraculously can send or receive texts through iMessage, I can manage to get the dial tone when I try Facetime, though the call cannot go through.
This is of course extremely frustrating and I highly regret the update now. I was hoping for an improved iPod after the update, and now I have a near-dud! I did make sure to check my location and date and time, and both are correct (US, Central time). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I spoke too soon. I tried Facetime again last night and had the same problems. Another factory reset did not work. I think it may be time to just call Apple support.

  • Time Machine not working after Lion install

After Lion install at first Time Machine would not back up-then it did, but backed up the entire HD-now Time Machine will no longer function in trying to retrieve any data from Mail or anything else

After consulting with maker of back up drive (LaCie) I opted to format the drive. Lost some stuff but nothing critical. I then backed up and now all appears to be working, i.e drive is backing up and Time Machine is now functioning.

  • FaceTime for Macbook Pro not working.

FaceTime for Macbook Pro has suddenly stopped working. Everytime I try to call one of my contacts it says FaceTime failed, and also whenever someone tries to call me. My FaceTime on my iPhone 5 works perfectly. All software is up to date, keychains reset, and troubleshooting was no help. Nothing works. I have signed out, turned off then back on, and also restarted my computer. Any ideas?

  • Wireless trackpad not working after lion update on May 15, 2012

Right after OSX update on May 15, 2012, the pairing of my wireless trackpad to the desktop is no longer working.
First the bluetooth found my trackpad.  After clicking "continue", the box showed: "No trackpad found  The pariing attempt was unsuccessful, click "continue" to try again.
I've been trying for several times.  Still not working!!

Yes, I did replaced a new set of batteries!!  The computer keeps finding new wireless trackpad but once I click on continue, the box showed "the pairing was unsuccessful".  Again, this happend when I updated my OSX this morning.
I clicked on the bluetooth set up box.  It shows a green light (connected) but sometimes turned red (disconnected) for no reason.  Then I clicked on "Monitor connection RSSI.  As I played with the trackpad, there seemed to be signals being detected by the desktop.
Still, the mouse cursor cannot be moved by the wireless trackpad and the pairing is still unsuccessful.
