Facetime lags and disconnects

Guys, I am having a problem with my facetime. It lags like crazy sometimes and disconnects at random moments.
I have a N router and have the latest firmware and great signal (100%).
According to speedtest.net I have 9mbps download and 2mbps upload speed with a ping of 23ms.
I don't know why it's lagging and why it's disconnecting all the time. I will always have to reset my wifi information after a disconnect to call the user back. (turn on airplane mode and turn it off).
Also, I've reset the network on the iphone multiple times and that has not solved anything.
I've also turned on and off my phone and turned and off the activation for facetime and the problem still persist.
HELP!

Many things could be causing your problem.  Some of them are:
 • You may be experiencing a weak wi-fi signal.
 • It is also possible you have interference .
 • Other computers sharing your network are using too much bandwidth.

  • Bluetooth keyboard lags and disconnects after upgrading to Yosemite

After updating to OS X Yosemite, I'm having serious bluetooth issues. The keyboard will sporadically stop working and I'm not able to type anything. When I check the bluetooth in the top menu bar, it says it is still connected even when it's not working. The other thing it does is lag veryyy badly. At first it will appear that it's just stopping again, but then the first letter will show up with the option for all the other versions of the letter like it does when you hold down a key. After about 3 seconds the next letter I originally typed shows up and follows suit. It does the same "holding it down" thing with the space bar and delete key as well, so you can imagine my frustration when a chunk of what I just wrote out is deleted and there's nothing I can do to stop it. The lag and this repeating key thing is so severe that I literally cannot get anything done. I'm a graphic designer so I need to use a mouse and keyboard together all day long and this is making it impossible for me to get anything done.
The only thing that seems to get it back working again is opening the keyboard bluetooth preferences, turning OFF the keyboard, waiting a bit, and turning it back on. And this only works some of the time. It will say "connected" right after I turn it back on but still won't let me type anything. After a couple tries it'll start working again.
I also have some issues with the mouse disconnecting but connects right away when you click. However, I now use a Wacom tablet so I don't have a need for the mouse anymore. The key shortcuts on my tablet will stop working at some points too, so I know the keyboard is my biggest problem.
I installed the Yosemite update (10.10.1) this morning, hoping that would save the day and I'm still having the same problem. I've had to do the "turn off keyboard" thing 3 times already in this post. I also reset the PRAM and rebooted a couple times-- still nothing. I'm at my wit's end with this thing, and I can't find any answers online. I'm about to chuck this keyboard out into this 5 feet of Buffalo snow.
If anyone can pleaseeee help me I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you!

USB mouse and built-in trackpad work fine, but I have a similar issue with the Magic Trackpad which leads me to believe it is a BT issue.
My phone does have BT switched on, but I never had any problems like this with Lion, which suggests ML is the issue.
I did just find a solution that seems to work, although it's not permanent.
One guy figured out that the problem happened more frequently after waking from sleep (same is true for me), and turning the BT radio on and off helped. He made a command-line utility to do that.
Seems to work for me so far.

  • Xbox 360 live lagged and disconnect often with Linksys WRT300N router

I live in a two story townhouse with the modem and wireless router (Linksys WRT300N) located in the upper floor and the Xbox 360 system with wireless adapter in the bottom floor.  Our laptop works fine with good connection but the Xbox live gameplay lagged big time and disconnect often.  What are we doing wrong?

Configure the X-BOX using static IP....subnet mask ....gateway & DNS numbers as in the range of router ....
Also use the wireless settings same as in router
    Forward the ports 88 & 3074 .... .on router .....
See above settings make any difference

  • FaceTime lagging and no longer works!

I have the iPad 2 and the main reason was for FaceTime with relatives in Asia. I am located in Canada. Here's a quick rundown of the situation.
First day I got iPad 2 I used FaceTime with relatives in Asia. Worked wonderfully. A week later we tried again but this time it was lagging miserably. The call connected, I could see a blurry image for about 5 seconds before the image froze. The sound I was receiving was also very choppy. I could hear bits and pieces but not enough to understand. I restarted router and iPad but same situation. Double checked other computers that are wireless at home and working fine and getting 15Mbps based on speediest.net. The connection in Asia was fine, they sent a short video showing what they saw, perfect motion picture and audio. Everything was on my end.
I then tried Skype App on iPad and it worked perfectly fine to Asia with no issues or lag.
Tried googling issues and wifi issues seem to be everywhere however mine does stay connected. It seems under heavy strain it disconnects, FaceTime Netflix YouTube etc. I then tried FaceTime with a friend in the same city. FaceTime still had issues but not as severe. Friends side was still seamless while my iPad is messed up.
Is there a fix or anyone having the same issues? Please help!
    Wilson

Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
    The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Preferences/Network on your Mac will override the router settings. Try either of these;
    OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google Public DNS
    8.8.8.8. 8.8.4.4
Also, try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo.

  • Apple tv lag and disconnecting from macbook pro

I have an apple TV connected to the projector in my room. I connect my macbook pro to the apple tv wirelessly (obviously). There is an airport in the hallway (maybe 20 yards from me), and I am on a network. I have videos downloaded from the internet on my computer that I want to show my students on the projector. Sometimes it works. However, more times than not, there is a lag, the video freezes (audio continues to play usually). Sometimes the apple tv just disconnects (which means reconnecting it and re-selecting my speaker -- total pain!). I need something reliable that I can count on to use with my classes! So far, Apple TV is not it.
Also, for some reason I cannot put a DVD in the drive and have it play on through apple TV to the projector. Something about not being able to change over display?
I could really use some help, I'm really frustrated. I teach K-5th, one after the other, and I have different curriculum for each -- it is hard to have enough back up when the apple tv does not work.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard is lagging and disconnecting when using Macbook Pro via Bootcamp

    Hey guys,
I am using my Macbook Pro (I think from 2009) with an external monitor and the apple wireless keyboard (connection via Bluetooth).
First when I set up Bootcamp everything worked fine. But now suddenly the keyboard is lagging (letters sometimes appear after a few seconds or get stuck and typed 20 times or something) and randomly completely disconnecting.
I already downloaded the newest drivers for Boot Camp 64bit from the apple website, but this didnt solve my problem.
I tried disconnecting the keyboard on mac and then reconnecting on the Windows 7 partition again. Also didn't work.
Of course I had to reconnect the keyboard when on the mac.
But it's not that it's not working. I'm using the keyboard via Bootcamp right now. It's just that it's randomly doing this...
Now I don't know what to do. Do some of you have the same issues or have any ideas that might help?

  • BT Infinity Lag and Disconnections when another co...

Hello, I have had BT infinity since the 28th of January and love the new found speeds I now have. However whenever my sister uses the internet for Netflix and other on-demand streaming services my connection on both my laptop and more importantly my Xbox drops out and I get disconnected.
This to me shouldn't happen especially on an infinity line. I am on Unlimited Infinity 1 + Calls as the maximum speed for my line would be just over 40Mbps so going onto Infinity 2 would have been pointless.
    Information on my home setup:
All devices are connected wirelessly - NOTE - I know that a wired connection would help but this is not possible due to distance between the router and my room. Also I think this is just a cop-out answer, it shouldn't just disconnect when another person uses it even on wireless.
There is a total of 4 devices that can connect at any one time but usually only three - The Xbox, My laptop and my sister's laptop.
The disconnections happen whenever my sister uses streaming services even at 2:00am like today which is what has brought me to this forum.
Any advice and answers would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it is just my sister's laptop causing it I think its the fact she is using things like Netflix at the same time as me playing xbox. I had thought about those Powerline Adaptor's if thats what you mean by "homeplugs", but it would require me to put an long ethernet cable through the ceiling into the room above and do it from there as there would be no other way due to the location of my router.
    Would that be okay?
Do these Powerline Adaptors give the same speed and reliability as a wired connection?
There is no need to install ethernet cable with homeplugs, as that's the point of them.
The major benefit of powerline networking is that users can easily establish a network using a home's existing electrical wiring as the communication medium. There is no need to drill holes in walls or ceilings to route new wiring and, as a result, installation is quick, easy and relatively inexpensive. Powerline networking is an easily accomplished networking method for AC-powered devices, which by necessity must already be near power outlets.

  • Skype Problem: Lagging and disconnecting, but inte...

i did same subscription before existing subscription expiry. Money paid thorugh skype but i am unable to use minutes and i have to wait to use newly paid subscription and existing subscription does not have balance...

I've been spreading the word since my friend found out a solution!
A friend of mine in IT googled and it so far it seems to have eliminated the constant lag I've been getting every 20-30 seconds.
    Here it goes:
    Close skype completely.
Type in your spotlight: Terminal (black box looking icon)
Press enter then type in exactly:
    cd ~/Library/caches/
Press enter again and then type in exactly:
    sudo rm -d -v -r com.skype.skype
WARNING: It will give you a notice of caution that it could delete files, stay calm, all is good (I panicked too), then it'll ask you to type in your password (this refers to your actual mac password: the one you use to make changes to programs, give permission for installations, etc.)
Following the entering of your password there will be a giant wall of text, tons of code that you will not understand. Wait till this finishes (stops) and close terminal. Then proceed to re-open skype. Problem should be fixed! Ta-da!
Be sure to check activity monitor to compare your now normal % CPU levels to the abnormal ones that you were having before !
Goodluck and please let me know if it helps!

  • Mac book air connects to internet w/ lag and drops

my macbook air has been working for the past year, but recently my internet has been lagging and disconnecting by itself every 30 seconds. all my computers connect through a router and modem but only the mac air is having internet problems. it keeps saying "the page cannot be displayed" even though airport shows that it is connected to the internet. (note: the mac air works flawlessly when I connect to other wifi locations outside of home)
    router: netgear
    all the things I've tried.
    -editing keychain settings
-deleting my network and creating a new one
    -resetting modem and router
    -resetting airport
    -changing dns and ip settings
    -resetting the mac air
    -turning off bluetooth
    -changing browser settings
    -smashing the router around
    nothing has worked....
p.s. there was one day where I changed my router and it worked for one day, the next day it didn't work again.

What are your wireless encryption settings? WEP, WPA2? Have you tried it with no encryption? Was it faster? Sometimes if you have rearranged the room or moved the router, interference can start. I also would download istumbler and see if you have neighbors using the same or adjacent channels. It will also show you the noise on your Netgear. Maybe this will bring some ideas to you:

  • FaceTime Freezing and Frustrating

This has to be one of the most frustrating issues I have ever had with an Apple product--and I have been using them since 1984!
FaceTime on my iMac 27", Mid-2010 Model, running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50), with 16 GB, started freezing up when a call is answered. No video (except a frozen picture), no sound at all, then a message "Call Failed" or "FaceTime Failed". This happens whether the call is to (or from) my friend in Hong Kong, or to (or from) my wife's iPhone in the next room.
I have tried everything. Turning FaceTime off, then back on. Rebooting the computer. Changed FaceTime sharing and Permissions. Opened it in 32-bit mode. Signed out, then back into my mobile.me account. Changed my email address me.com to mac.com. I tried to move FaceTime to the Trash, to download a fresh copy, but that is not allowed by the System. I have no firewalls up, nor do I have anti-virus software running. I have even closed all other applications and run FaceTime by itself, to no avail.
What is really frustrating is that FaceTime runs on my iPad 3 and my iPhone 4, with the precise same settings I have on my iMac--and on the same WiFi network.
I am going to run Yasu and reset all my permissions as my next attempt to fix this vexing problem, but I hope someone can solve this. I know I am not the only one having this problem, and it really needs to be resolved.

Me-too'ing here: I'm experiencing the same problem, or more correctly my wife is while I'm away from home. She's on our home network which is using a TrendNet TEW-637AP running in mixed b/g/n mode. We've never experienced wifi disconnects during other iPhone operations including streaming 1hr+ Netflix shows. Every time we make a FaceTime call, the call disconnects after 5-10 minutes and her wifi bars turn to 3G just like everyone else here. She can refresh the wifi by reconnecting to the network, but that will last only another 5-10 minutes of FT.
This is certainly not an uncommon problem, but I have yet to see a solid solution. Like here, some report a new phone fixes the issue while others experience the same problem. Likewise switching out of N seems to cure it for some but not others. I can remote into the AP and will try setting it to b/g mode only to see if we notice a difference in our ability to sustain FT calls. I'll try to report back in the next few days if I can.

upgrading from snow leapord to mavericks, i couldn't opened app store, messenger, ibook,FaceTime, maps and other. please help

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode - About
If that doesn't work, do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then reinstall the OS.

  • Facetime Lags

Whenever i use facetime on my macbook pro, iphone 4s,ipad 4,it always lags and freezes.Could it be that we are one the same wifi network or something else. Please help and thank you

Shouldn't lag at all if your using decent speed Wifi, but on the other hand if in your settings under face time is set for cellular then it will defiantly lag on 3G. Check your settings under face time, make sure its not set as "cellular" for it.

  • Facetime, iMessage, and Mail not working after iOS 6.1.3 update

I've had my iPod touch 4th generation since Oct 2010 and never updated the iOS until very recently. Before the update, Facetime worked consistently and easily. After I finally got around to updating my iOS a week ago, my iPod has come into severe issues.
99% of the time, I cannot send or receive Facetime calls. If I try to make a call, it doesn't make the dial tone and eventually it just says "Connection Lost". Nothing happens if someone is trying to send me a call. I only Facetime with my boyfriend and his iPod hasn't changed since Facetime was last working. HIs other iPod is also updated with iOS 6.1.3.
I never used iMessage before the iOS update, but because it says on Apple support that it uses push notifications like Facetime does, so I tried it. Most of the time, I cannot send or receive messages. I rarely used Mail before the update, but I never had a problem with it. Now, when I enter my gmail password, it keeps saying my username and password are not correct, even though I haven't changed my credentials.
I only use my iPod for Facetime, iTunes, and Pandora. I don't need iMessage or Mail, but I am testing with those to see if this can help find the root cause of the problem. Pandora works smoothly so I know it's not a wifi connection issue. I have searched for remedies on end and tried:
    1.  Reset, turn off/restart, turn Facetime on and off, etc.
    2. Changing the DNS server address to 8.8.8.8, which made Facetime work normally for one time and never again
    3. Updating my Apple ID password online, then signing out and signing back in
    4. Creating another Apple ID with my other gmail account. Maybe 1 out of 10 Facetime call attempts, I can generate the dial tone, but when my boyfriend clicks to receive the call, it says that I am unavailable. iMessage has about the same success rate. It seems when I miraculously can send or receive texts through iMessage, I can manage to get the dial tone when I try Facetime, though the call cannot go through.
This is of course extremely frustrating and I highly regret the update now. I was hoping for an improved iPod after the update, and now I have a near-dud! I did make sure to check my location and date and time, and both are correct (US, Central time). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I spoke too soon. I tried Facetime again last night and had the same problems. Another factory reset did not work. I think it may be time to just call Apple support.
