FaceTime not working on 17" macbook pro with Snow Leopard
I have a 17" macbook pro from around 2008 (2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM) that will not connect using FaceTime. I tried to call my daughter on her iPod Touch 4G and the call says "Connecting" it rings on both ends, but then my picture freezes and it never completes the connection, just hangs up and says "Call failed". She can facetime her friends with other iPods just fine, so I think the problem is with my mac. I also tried calling to another mac that has facetime working fine, but I could not connect to that one either. Same result...ringing, connecting, screen freeze, drop call, no connection. I've seen others with this problem on google, but their suggestions have not fixed the problem either. I even tried deleting facetime and then downloading it again from app store and still same result. I am able to use skype perfectly fine with this macbook pro, so I don't see it as a camera problem.

1. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
2. Connect to a different network, such as a public Wi-Fi hotspot, and try again.

FaceTime not working on my Macbook Pro. I am able to sign in successfully and add contacts. When I try to call a contact with an iPhone, it says connecting then fails by ending automatically. I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. After connecting my HP Photosmart D110 to it, the printer works but the scanner doesn't. The message is"The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device". Can anyone help?
Found the answer on the HP site. It's the original software that works with this printer OS X 10.6!!

When i start up my boot up process if ok but then turns black before it goes to login. i close the top to see if it is on. it is, and then when i lift the top up my login shows. it seems to be stalling in start up mode. i did take it to my local mac guy and they gave me a new logic board as they said my particular year (2008) had a recall on my motherboard. However i still have problem.

HP 1312nfi Multi-funtion printer & brand new Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard

I just got my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard May 2010. I can only print and fax with my 1 year old HP 1312nfi color laserjet multi-function printer. I cannot SCAN at all. I tried loading the software that came with the printer but it wouldn't install the 'Print Director' as I had on my old iMac (with Leopard). Then I went to HP and it said not to install the software that came with the HP printer because Snow Leopard has it all. I read that there are 3 ways to scan from my computer which none of them work. I brought up the printer then clicked printer setup and when I try to bring up the 'print utility' from the last tab, it won't open anything. Where is the printer utility now? Why can't I scan? There has to be a way. HELP please?Found the answer on the HP site. It's the original software that works with this printer OS X 10.6!!

Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard, Win 7 & Ubuntu, can't upgrade to Lion
I have new 13" macbook pro with Snow Leopard on it. With a combination of boot camp and some disc partitioning trickery, I got windows 7 and ubuntu on it as well. Furthermore I also have a shared data (fat32) partition on the machine (so 4 main partitions - win,mac,linux,shared - plus swap partition, efi, etc).
I just download Lion and I'm trying to start the installer, but when it asks me which partition I want to install it on, all options are greyed out and the Macintosh HD partition says somethign to the effect of "this disc cannot be used to start the computer". Is there any way for me to get lion installed without having to erase all my extra partitions and start this whole agonizing process over again?You may be out of luck without formatting your HDD. See this article from Macworld:
(At least Recovery HD should be created. In our testing, it appears this special partition is created only when you install Lion onto an internal drive formatted with a GUID partition scheme. In addition, that internal drive must initially have only a single partition; or be a multi-partition drive that was partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant and not further modified afterwards. So not everyone will get this useful feature. Apple has confirmed some of these restrictions.)

Restart with the Option key held down and restart from the disk. If this produces a screen with a padlock, provide the computer's firmware password; if you don't know that, contact Apple or an authorized service provider.

As is said my HP w2207h monitor is not working with a minidisplayport to hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable which is working fine for my PS3. So the cable is not the problem. And on my TV i also have no problems at all activating a second monitor. Therefore the adapter isnt the problem either. When i plug it in the typical bluescreen appears. Then after a few seconds it appears again and there is no second monitor recognized. I also used the "recognize Monitor" button without success. Please help me, are there any special drivers or something like that ?
PS: bought a high end expensive adapter now because the old one was very cheap. But didnt help. Still stuck on the macbook not recognizing anything !If you have an external drive you can hook up to the MacBook Pro I believe there *may* be a solution by getting an image to the MacBook Air.
On the MacBook Pro with the Windows install disk in the DVD drive fire up disk utility. Select the DVD and then hit the "New Image" button. Disk Utility should offer to create a disk image from the DVD. I would put that disk image on a USB drive connected to the Pro. You should be able to mount that image when you connect up to the Air. Hopefully BootCamp will be able to access that all through the process.
If that doesn't work (the drivers don't recognize the disk image once Windows gets underway for its install), you might try copying the installation files from the DVD to FAT32 formatted USB stick or drive and then using that to install Windows. I would expect Windows would be able to see the USB FAT32 drive and I don't believe any file on the drive is going to go beyond 4GB.
I haven't actually tried BootCamp on the Air, since I just use VMWare which has no issue installing from anything OSX can see. But BootCamp is going to eventually hand off operations to Windows and that's going to complicate matters--Windows has to be able to see the drive. While I believe there are drivers that let Windows connect to that drive, there's no way to authenticate (or even load the drivers I expect) before Windows itself is loaded--so it's a "chicken/egg" problem. -

Having trouble with operating Late 2008 MacBook Pro with Extended keyboard and Kensington Bluetooth mouse and a HP 2159m display with the clamshell closed.
I have the A/C adapter power cord attached. It seems that the only way I can get it to work is to close the laptop cover down until its screen just goes dark and then use a stick (ruler) to push down one of the letter keys to get it awake again. then I can shut the clamshell I really did follow the inst (several times)

hello my airport on my mac mini 80 gb with snow leopard 10.5 is not working so i can not connect to the internet,i had a problem and re-installed snow leopard but i cannot to the internet now,i go to system preferences and network and i have tried to setup manually but to no avail,i click on airport in utilities and do a scan but it shows nothing,any ideas please?

With my iPhone 4s plugged into the Macbook It will backup and sync using iTunes but when I click on the device icon on the left it wants to set up a MobileMe account and the iPhone has iCloud turned on. I want to stay with Snow Leopard 10.6.1 Is there any way to get the photos on the iPhone accessible? Thanks.

In iTunes my iPhone is located under devices,named and selectable. In iPhoto the logo is there but no name and no pictures coming up.
