Facetime not working on iPad Retina Display

As many of the others here have posted, Facetime isn't working on my brand-new iPad. It works on my phone and on my Mac through my email address and mobile phone number, but not on the iPad.
TEXAS MAC MAN I have already looking through the links that you are posting as a response to others who have had a similar problem, none of those suggestions work.
I've turned Facetime on and off again a few times in General Settings, but that hasn't helped.
Others can sometimes call me but I am unable to call out.
Any ideas? I am so frustrated by this as a primary reason I bought it was so that I could talk to my relatives overseas through Facetime. It really stinks that Apple doesn't have this sorted out.
Thanks!

The only thing that I can think of is a mechanical problem.  Try inserting/removing the jack repeatedly for maybe a dozen times.
There is one other thought but it would stop the sound completely - with and without earphones/earbuds.  If that's the case, I'll elaborate.

  • Can mac os x 10.5.8 work with ipad retina display?

I have a mac pro with mac os x 10.5.8 .. I want to purchase a ipad retina display. Will it work with this ?

No. You need 10.6.8 or later.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Facetime not working on iPad 2 and Mac Version

Regards to all the members of the community.
I just bought an iPad 2 and wanted to facetime with my dad (Different locations, both on iPads). However as my dad dialed I did not get the iPad 2 to ring or notify me of an incoming call. Oddlt when I called him, his iPad did ring but when he answered, while his iPad tried to connect, mine kept ringing and ringing and ringing...
So I tried facetime from my iPhone to his iPad and viceversa, and it worked like a charm. Then on the mac and I had the same issued that on the iPad 2. My apple ID is working and I have 3 email addresses verified and linked to it (.mac, .me and .gmail). This is very odd and would like to see if you guys could help me out.
Oh and before any of you tells me to turn Facetime on on the iPado or to visit the "Using iPad" link, beleive me I've already have and there are no answers regarding this issue. There are other discussions on the forums talking about the same issue. So can an apple Rep please see to this as soon as possible?
    Thanks.

    Joe-
I suspect there are some serious kinks to be addressed in Facetime. I too bought ipad2 and have gone around and around for hours trying to connect just to my iMac (after buying the FT app for it). None of the tech help worked, it always goes on to 'oh, it must be your firewall or something. I finally called tech help and he just sent me more links, which I wasted more time on. Each device wouuld show my face, dial the other device, NOT connect, or say the other was busy. THEN, I thought, oh, each device must use a different email address, so it won't 'be busy'. Nothing.  After an hour of going back and forth, turning off firewalls and the Symantic firewall, etc. I gave up. Each device would only show my face on it, but not broadcast one to the other. It's funny how easy it was to get Skype, dial a number and be talking to someone in Europe minutes later, no problem! Why is FT so arcane and complicated?? I thought Apple stuff was susposed to be easy and intuitve?? Obviously not anymore. God, this is as bad as trying to set up a new router.

  • FaceTime not working on iPad

I have an iPad 2 and got a bit of an issue. I added my account and verified it to use FaceTime, everything is connected, Internet and all but whenever I ring anyone, it seems like its ringing but no one is actually receiving my calls....even my girlfriend tried ringing me but I am receiving nothing.....FaceTime is activated on settings, I have looked at everything a million times but still not working...... Would appreciate the help

Excuse me if this is duh stuff, but.
Check restrictions, and make sure you have not restricted face time.
    Is your volume up?
When they call you, does the screen light up?  There are other reports of not ringing, and I don't know if those ever got resolved, but the complaints have certainly slowed down.
When you call them, are they folks that can receive a face time call?  Many folks have multiple contact numbers, e mail vs phone number, and some, multiple e mail addresses.  Are you calling the right one?
Calls in either direction, do the machine show that you have missed a call?

  • Imessages and facetime not working on ipad 3 mini since update to 8.3

brand new ipad 3 mini i-messages and facetime was working until update to IOS 8.3. can anyone help. I've restored ipad and set up as new but still same.

If none of this suggestions help, you are in the same boat a bunch of us are in! We all have newish devices (mostly iPad mini 3) and suddenly can't get into FaceTime or Messages. There's no slider and the sign in just dumps us back to sign in or gives a network error message.
If that's what's happening, it's probably an AppleID problem. Mine isn't working for FaceTime or Messages on any iPad, but my friend's works on mine. If you go to page 18, you will see what we've tried after 8.2 upgrade

  • IMessage & FaceTime Not Working on iPad after iOS 6.0.1 update?

I have an iPad 16GB 3rd Generation and whenever I try to sign in with my Apple ID to Messages and FaceTime it pops up with "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." I have tried so many things for this including resetting my network settings and creating a new Apple ID but my wifi connection works perfectly fine on safari etc but not on iMessage and FaceTime. Please Help?

Tried that already. It doesn't work.
The problem isn't that the app is frozen, it just blinks, then closes when you attempt to launch it.
Thank you for the suggestion, though. I appreciate your willingness to help.
I may try restoring my iPad tomorrow.

  • FaceTime not working on Ipad Mini

Hi. Hoping someone cn help. Currently travelling in Asia. My Ipad Mini has stopped working with FaceTime. Have been in communication with home for months with no issue and suddenly it will not answer or dial out. Simply gives a busy signal!!!.  Will ring on inbound or outbound but soon as answer it changes to busy tone...
Have tried to download and upgrade the IOS update but this also fails........my partner also has one with separate ID and hers also has stopped working although only a few months old...so the certificate issue I heard about expiring is a load of twaddle....
Was always a Samsung freak until I got this piece of kit, loved the the way the ipad works until now... Now very frustrated as lost communication with family..
Anywone can help would much appreciate it.........

    Hello Sstrangways,
It sounds like FaceTime is not functioning correctly all of a sudden and you cannot talk to your family anymore. I get how frustrating that can be, so lets try a few things. These steps to start with from the following article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3367
Update both devices (your device and your friend's device) to the latest version of iOS.
If you started to have issues making or receiving FaceTime calls after April 16, 2014, you or your friend may have an expired device certificate. Updating both devices will resolve this issue.
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in Settings > FaceTime.
If the issue persists or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't disabled in Settings > General > Restrictions.
Verify that the date and time are set correctly: Tap Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
Verify that both parties have an active Internet connection and are connected to a Wi-Fi network or a cellular data connection.
    Restart your device.
If using FaceTime over a Wi-Fi network, go to the steps to resolve Wi-Fi network issues.
If issues persist, try quitting all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Facetime not working on iPad in hotels?

When at home and connected to Internet via sky wifi messages and FaceTime work fine. When staying away and in hotels I often cannot use FaceTime or messages. Any ideas why? It's strange that Skype works!

The hotels are apparently blocking the IP ports Facetime and Messages use. You'll need to take this up with the hotels where you stay, or use public WiFi access points that don't have such blocking.
    Regards.

while updating my ipad to new software through itunes it got stuck and does not work anymore - it just displays the screen with symbols of itunes and the cable to connect to it - help - what should i do?

Disconnect the iPad, do a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!, reconnect and follow the prompts.
If that does not work then see here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Try rebooting your iPad by holding down the power and home buttons simultaneously until a blank screen with the Apple logo appears. Ignore the power off slider if it appears. After a while your device should go to the main screen, as if you're turning the iPad on. Don't worry, this won't do anything to your data, it just literally restarts the iPad.

on my iPad (Retina Display) in Google why would a site come up that I have not any knowledge of?  Not one that I have EVER looked for?

As far as I could see - only once.  All morning I have had trouble with connecting to my WiFi.  I blame AppleSupport who were trying to help me with a totally different problem and they asked me to "Reset" my iPad - and I lost my Wifi connection and had a huge amount of trouble getting back on.  Now every time I boot up the iPad and try to get on-line it asks for my Password for WiF!  Not happy.
