Facetime says connecting buy won't connect

My wife and I both have an iphone4.  We have used Facetime to talk to each other several times.  Recently (i.e. within the past month), we have noticed that Facetime will simply not connect.  This happend in both iOS 6 and now in iOS 7.
If we are in a call and switch to facetime, the phone says "connecting..." but either never connects or terminates the attempt.  I have no way of diagnosing the issue because I can't see why it is failing.  I've forced my phone to use wi-fi only (i.e. i turn off 3g connectivity and use wi-fi only), but that does not help.
Is there anything else I can try to establish a facetime connection?  I'm not concerned about the bandwidth on either end because both internet connections are stable and broad enough to stream HD video.

  • Facetime says "Connecting..." then "Connection Lost"

Several weeks ago, FaceTime suddenly stopped working.
When I call out or someone calls in, it says "Connecting..." at the bottom, and then shortly after that "Connection Lost" and the call ends.
I didn't change my router, iOS, phone or anything else that seemed important.
I backed up my phone and tried to start over as a new phone.  FaceTime worked.  yay!
I then restored from backup.  FaceTime no longer works.
I tried "Reset All Settings".  FaceTime still does not work.
Is there any way to get FaceTime working again other than manually trying to recreate all of the settings in my backup?

  • FaceTime says "connecting" but never connects

When someone calls me, I will recieve the call and can press the green accept button, and it will say "connecting" and will say this for as long as I allow it to until i press "END". And the same happens when i call the person. I have restarted my phone and tried again but it still doesnt work. I have an iphone 5s. Thanks in advance!

There have been some connection issues reported over the last couple of days. Despite the Apple status page reporting no problems, many report problems in both iOS 6 & 7, while some say that iOS 7 seems to work. It is unknown if Apple is addressing this or not.

  • FaceTime says connecting but never connects on my iPhone 5.

I have iPhone 5 and all other members on plan have iPhone4. I still cannot connect to FaceTime with anyone except my iTouch (under a different Apple ID) and have done ALL of the updates, trouble shooting, and followed every step to anything related to FaceTime the Apple Community suggested. I am at a loss as to what the problem could be...it says it is connecting but it never does and I have to end the call to get it to stop. They all can connect and FaceTime to each other but not to me or from me. I am running the latest iOS system, latest update on all Apps, checked restrictions, push notifications, you name it. Is any one else having this same issue after all the fix suggestions?? Help please. The closet Apple store is 63 miles from where I live. Thank you.

    Hey allielli21,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with FaceTime on your iPhone 5. It also sounds like you have already attempted a good amount of troubleshooting. • Why won't my FaceTime connect? It keeps saying connection failed when trying to sign in.

Why won't my FaceTime work? I just got this iPad new was able to FaceTime once. The next time I tried to FaceTime it said phone number incomplete. So I signed out of FaceTime and now it won't sign back in. It keeps saying connection failed check connection. I am showing I'm connected to the wireless router. What could be the issue?

Ok, so sometimes apple's servers may crash, temporarily. Just check the following site: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/systemstatus/
and it will notify you of any crashes. The link above is for the UK. Change to adapt to your country if you are outside of the UK. If your problem isn't listed I am sure it will be resolved within 24 hours. If this problem persists best thing is to contact apple.
    Hope this helped :)

I've had this issue between 2 iMacs and an iPad2. No solutions yet, and I've tried changing the DNS. Sorry.

FaceTime not working on my Macbook Pro. I am able to sign in successfully and add contacts.  When I try to call a contact with an iPhone, it says connecting then fails by ending automatically.   When someone try to FaceTime me,I accept but it says connecting then fail.  I only have a MacBook Pro to FaceTime and not an iPhone.  I was informed that I should be able to FaceTime from my laptop via video call without an iPhone.
    Please advise.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    1. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    2. Connect to a different network, such as a public Wi-Fi hotspot, and try again.
