FaceTime Sync from iMac to iPone and iPadAir

I setup my new iMac (purchased 14 May 2014) with a whole bunch of FaceTime contacts.   These are there in my FaceTime pane.
I bought an iPadAir last week and also have an iPhone.
On both these Apple devices I also entered some FaceTime contact data, tried both out and they worked just fine; that is they talked to each other and other people.
As this information was slightly different on all three devices, I wanted them to automatically follow what I have on my iMac, so I plugged them both in to the iMac.
I then (separately) did a Sync of both devices from iTunes, and all the data for FaceTime in both cases instead of being updated and streamlined/synchronised with my iMac has been wiped.
Surely there must be a way of doing this automatically rather than have to enter and re-enter all the data again and again each time I do a Sync.
Note:  when I did the Sync the music I added today went where it should, so there's no problem with connections, etc.
On the Info page I've clicked on "Sync Contacts" which would seem to be what was necessary.
Now when I try to Sync either of these devices, the Sync process goes on and on and never stops.   This is a real problem, and I can't see any way of stopping it other than doing a Force Quit of iTunes - which is pretty useless as I will obviously want to Sync these and my other Apple devices again in the future.
As a result of this neither of these devices will now Sync with my iMac, other than locking themselves into a cintinuous loop.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this.   As I've just bought both the iMac and the iPadAir I could contact Apple direct, but I thought I'd try here first.

Yes, iCloud is enabled on the iMac.   However, .........
I've just been looking at the settings on my iPad and iPhone; neither had Settings / iCloud / Contacts enabled.
Now that I've enabled Settings / iCloud / Contacts on both the iPhone and the iPad, my Contacts data from the iMac has streamed to both my Contacts and FaceTime on both the iPad and iPhone
Oddly, I have never entered anything in my Contacts app on the iMac; all the data that appeared there (as if by magic!) came from what I'd entered in FaceTime.
I've just done a Sync from iTunes to my iPad and iPhone and it worked quickly and smoothly.
It looks like this is an iCloud issue on both the portable devices - as a rule I don't enable BlueTooth, roaming or suchlike on my iPhone, and I didn't set up the iPad any differently..
FaceTime only worked before because I'd manually entered some of the same contact data in FaceTime on both the iPad and iPhone, and then connected to other Mac users to try out FaceTime.   It would seem that when I did a Sync on both these portable devices, and set iTunes / Info to apply Contact information, because iCloud wasn't enabled, it just wiped the data on both the iPad and iPhone.
This seems to be a fix, so thanks for your time and questio; I hope my attempt at an explanation might help others not make the same mistakes I did.

  • How to put movies from iMac to iPad and use iMovie

    I have enjoyed using iMovie on the Mac to create "Trailers" of my family movies. I purchased iMovie for iPad and there are some new interesting "Trailers", different from the ones on the Mac. So I'd like to try them out.
    But I cannot figure out how to move .MOV files onto an iPad. (Ironic, I know). Here are the things I've tried.
    1. I tried a straight drag and drop when the iPad was connected, from Finder window to iPad on the Device. No go.
    2. I tried to create an iTunes playlist of the movie, which works fine on iTunes on the Mac. but
          a. It won't show up on iTunes on the iPad, even after making sure it was supposed to be synced and checked
          b. It won't show up in iMovie on the iPad
    3. I tried to put it into iPhoto on the Mac, and made an 'album' with it. It won't show up on the iPad even after careful syncing.
    As a test, i recorded a few seconds of video on the iPad, and of course it works fine. But the videos I am interested in turning into Trailers are movies I have already recorded of my family. "Gee, Wally, isn't there a way to do this?"
    Is there any way to put a video from iMac to iPad?

    additional info: I found some hint that the iPad can't take just any old movie format, so I used "Convert to format for iPad", an option i had never seen on iTunes on my imac before. But sadly, even the .m4v format of the movie will not show up on the iPad under iTunes nor under iMovie.
    I can certainly take an iPad iMovie trailer to the iMac if I 'finish' it, but it is a final a product, so i would have to break it up into all the little sections again. 
    So I still cannot seem to move a movie file to the iPad iMovie edit window. All my 'finished' iMovies show up under "movies" on the iPad, but never under the iMovie edit window. Hope that's clear.
    I want to use those new trailers with my home video.

    I found this tech article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4792 that says i can move an iMovie from iOS to iMovie on my Mac. I followed the steps exactly, but iMovie on teh Mac does not recognize the iMovie Trailer, so the Import button stays grayed out.

    i Just got an iPhone and I did not have icloud or iTunes yet. My photos from my previous phone were synced to my new phone and after the update they all disappeared. Please help me recover my pictures

    If all you did was sync your phone, and if you haven't synced again since this happened, you can restore your phone from the backup that was created at the beginning of the sync process (camera roll photos are included in the backup).  If you have synced again since this happened this backup has already been overwritten and your photos are lost.  Also, if you restored your phone from the backup of your iPod, rather than just synced, then your  photos are lost too.
    If you have an intact backup that contains these photos, do the following:
    Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences.  On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
    Connect your phone to your computer, right-click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar and select Restore from Backup, choose your most recent backup to restore from.
    When complete, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.

  • Two of my 7 calendars aren't syncing correctly via icloud from iMac to ipad and iphone.  i cant find the problem. Help!

    Two calendars in my list of seven are not correctly syncing between my iMac and my ipad & iPhone.  Also, the two calendars appear in my iCloud list with alert symbols after the (triangle with exclamation mark) whereas others in list show a "broadcasting" symbol. I don't know how to find out what these alerts are.
    I have noticed problems in syncing special recurring events....I.e I am able to set up a 'last Friday of each month"  on my iMac, but it doesn't appear on my iPad or iPhone.  And I note I can't set up a special recurring event on my iPad or iPhone.  What can I do to solve this?  Is this a known flaw in iCal?

    I have to say that, even after doing all that, my problem seems to recur at random with no obvious trigger - and it is even more bizarre because, like you, not all calendars or events are affected.  Sometimes, different events within the same calendar are duplicated whereas others aren't!
    And just how the iPad seems to pick up events which no longer appear in iCal is beyond me - presumably somewhere in a plist or old cache file but, as I said, no-one has any idea what or where!
    No-one has managed to explian why my problem occurs or, indeed, just what is happening, but at least I now know how I can correct it, albeit via tedious series of steps.

    I recently purchased a movie from iTunes on my iMac, which downloaded successfully and is watchable on my computer,.. but when I try to sync it to my Apple TV it won't appear in the list. I have done a factory reset and, after syncing my entire library, all the other films are viewable apart from this one movie. Does anyone know what is happening?

  • I cannot view photos on my ipod after syncing from imac 10.9.5

    I have a 5th generation ipod, 80gb. I have synced to my late 2012 imac 10.9.5 and am unable to see photos. It says cannot sync as file can't be found. My music has all synced but I just see blank squares for photos, is this an incompatibility issue?

    i took my ipod on vacation where it became very important I be able to dowload my pictures to the ipod in order to clean out the 1gig card. To my dismay my ipod crashed after about 90 pictures and the only way I could reset the IPOD was to let all the battery run out by keeping it on until it discharged. I then began to download 30, 40, 50 at a time and once in a while it crashed and would not let me see the previous rolls i had saved. Once again i discharge the ipod and the rolls reappeared once i recharged it. I'm dissapointed with this feature as I was really hoping it would be easier to use it as a storage device for photos.
    I have a 5G 60Gb Ipod. Using the Apple camera
    connector I have successfully uploaded 59 pictures
    from my Sony Cybershot camera. While transferring
    the pictures it showed a thumbnail. However now
    under Import Photos, Roll#x, there are only Delete
    Roll and Cancel Options. There is no Browse Option
    as indicated in the Apple Support.
    The pictures do upload to my computer when I connect

    Already asked this question in another forum, with no responses.  Ok, I have been having problems for a while with syncing music on my iPhone 5 and my Macbook Pro.  It all started when I turned on iTunes Match about 2 years ago.  I quickly realized it wasn't something I wanted or needed.  I spend a lot of time traveling in rural areas with not the best cell service so it wasn't going to work for me.  I am one of those people who doesn't want to spend a lot of time thinking about my technology, I just want to put the music on my phone that I want.
    Anyway, I downloaded an album through the iTunes Store on my phone which worked fine.  A while later my 32GB phone was running out of memory so I just cleared all of the music off of it and started from scratch.  For some reason that ONE ALBUM will not go on my phone.  If I go into the settings on my iPhone and into the Music and turn on "Show All Music" I can see it on my phone but it won't let me download it because it says my iTunes match subscription is expired.  The album appears in my library on my Mac but when I plug my phone into my Mac and attempt to add it, the album doesn't even show up as available to be added.  I tried making a playlist and adding the album to it but the songs don't appear on my phone when I add the playlist through iTunes on my Mac.  I'm running iTunes 11.3.1 (2).  Ever since they overhauled iTunes a while back I've been lost in the sauce.  Any suggestions from the more tech savvy people out there?

    The underlying issue here is that you have chosen to use POP3 rather than IMAP mail accounts. Only IMAP mailboxes are 'synchronized' by default: it is virtually impossible to synchronize POP3 mailbox content.

  • Calendar not syncing from iMac to iCloud

    I have an iMac running 10.6.8, a first-generation iPad and an iPhone 4, both upgraded to iOS 5. To start with, syncing through iCloud worked perfectly. Now the calendar on the iMac is not syncing with iCloud. Calendar events put into either the iPad or iPhone show up on iCloud, and sync with each other. But events put into the calendar on the iMac do not appear on the iCloud calendar, and events put into the iPad or iPhone do not appear on the iMac calendar. Any ideas?

    You must have v10.7.2 Lion installed for your Mac to use iCloud.

    If you decide to upgrade to Lion, make sure your Mac meet's Lion's requirements
    Currently your iPad and iPhone can sync using iCloud but not your Mac.

    I had the same issue last year.  it turned out to be my Bluetooth earpiece reached the end of its battery life.
    When I got a replacement the problem went away.

  • Syncing from IMac to IPad

    Hello. In the past I have successfully added CDs to Ithes, made a library, put related libraries in a folder....say classical music...and low and behold, when my generation 1 Ipad was plugged into an outlet and connected to the same Wifi signal, just about all was on my IPad.
    This did not happen yesterday. I uploaded 4 CDs from English textbooks I use, but aft the first long sync process, only one of the CDs was there.  Subsequent SYNC NOW command on my IPad went through a quick 1234 process, but nothing changed. 
    In the past I was subscribed to ICloud but that ran out when the free one yer expired...as a continuing me.com user.  But I never even came close to using my alloted amount, so guess that is not the reason.  Have never used Match.  So what may the reasons be?
    As an aside, I also activated Radio in ITunes and it now looks very similar to what was there before, just more radio stations. I had thought you would be given the opportunity to select and listen to artists rather than just more of the same stations as we have always has on the Mac platform.  I have not upgraded to Maverick, or was it Wyatt Earp, because I am happy to be at the highest level of the big cat systems.  Am ai missing something in my understanding of his the "new" radio differs from what has long existed, save in an increased number of stations?

  • How To or Can You Sync from the Apple Tv and Not I tunes???

    Ok so Apple is not fixing the problem with the Apple Tv staying in the device list of I-Tunes...not happy about it but whatever. So does anyone know if you can reestablish communication from the Apple Tv, so you do not have to keep going to the computer somewhere else in the house to do it???
    Any idea on how to make it appear again in the device list without having to quit i-tunes and re start it on the computer itself, can it be done remotely from the Apple Tv??
    Any idea on if having an I-Pod touch controlling it via the network instead of the Apple Tv remote would help out if nothing can be done with the regular remote for the Apple Tv?

    I have not tried these things yet, but have seen others who have and none of it worked. But the question is can any of those things prevent I-tunes from dropping the Apple TV from the device list. It did not matter if the Apple Tv was hard wired or not, the wireless strength is very strong and I can still access i-tunes via the network I just can not play my own movies. I do not think I can fix the problem I think Apple has a larger issue with this. I'm not the only one with this problem and see no fixes. So I'm just trying to find a work around from someone who knows more than me, until Apple fixes it...

  • Why don't new contacts sync from iMac to iPhone?

    It works the other way 'round... i.e. when I add an address to Contacts on my iPhone they appear in Contacts on my iMac, but not from desktop to phone. I must admit I'm confused by iCloud, so maybe I've set something up in correctly.

    Probably because (on the iMac) you are entering them into the On My Mac account in Contacts, you should enter them into the iCloud account, in Contacts, on your iMac.

    I have a mid-2011 MBA running Mountain Lion, an iPhone 5C, and an iPad 2.
    I use the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird for a calendar, but it is buggy. I really want to go back to iCal so I can have my calendar on my phone and on my iPad, but syncing is a nightmare. I cannot find any plain language information on the rationale behind why syncing works the way it does so that I can figure out how to make it work correctly.
    What I want:
    iCal desktop to be my primary calendar and to sync all updates to my iPad and iPhone. If I add an update on my iPad or iPhone, I want it to show up on iCal the next time I connect my device to the computer.
    What actually happens:
    iCal desktop is the secondary calendar. Anything that happens on the iPad and iPhone is more important. If I add an iCal event on the desktop app while I am connected to my iPhone and iPad, the events I create disappear because they do not exist on the iPad and iPhone. If I create them when the devices are not connected, when I do connect I either lose the events or they get triplicated.
    I do not use iCloud to sync, only iTunes by checking 'sync calendars.' I have given up on ever making iCloud syncing work for anything. Last time I tried it, it just deleted all my books, music, movies, etc. (thank goodness for Time Machine backups) and quadrupled all my calendar events...
    Can someone please take pity on me and explain how to make syncing
