Facetime vs. My Apple ID email address violation

I have an Apple ID which I am not using but unfortunately I have created this account using my @me.com email address. I have another account which I for years have used for iTunes and for all our iOS devices in the family. Now, I would like to add the @me.com/@icloud.com to FaceTime on all our iOS devices. At the same time I would like to in FaceTime keep using also the email address (not an @me.com/@icloud.com address) which is linked to my active iTunes account. 
However, I run into the problem that this address is linked to my inactive Apple ID and I am not able to change the email address. Consequently, I get the "Unable to verify email because it is already in use by another Apple ID" message and cannot use my @me.com/@icloud.com address for FaceTime.
When searching for solutions on the Apple Support Community it seems that I am not able to find a solution to this problem. As I understand I cannot use an email address in FaceTime which is linked to another Apple ID - which is logical. Possible solutions as I see it could be either to
- 1: Close my inactive Apple ID and by this releasing my @me.com/@icloud.com email address
- 2: Change the email address in my inactive Apple ID and by this releasing my @me.com/@icloud.com email address
- 3: Migrate everything to my inactive Apple ID including my non @me.com/@icloud.com email address and make this account active
- 4: Forget about using the email adresses I have at the moment in the two Apple IDs at the same time?
As I understand it the two solutions which would be easiest for me (1+2) are not supported by Apple and I only see the the migration of Apple ID.
Any other ideas on what I can do?

If you mean you are trying to change the Apple ID used on your phone to purchase from the iTunes store, go to Settings>Store, tap on the ID at the bottom, sign out and sign back in using the ID you want to use.

    I FOUND THE SOLUTION!
    I had the same exact problem. I had my old apple ID connected to a school email which did not exist anymore. My ipad was prompting me to put the password in for that ID and I could not delete it from my ipad because the "Find My Ipad" was turned on, once again prompting for password. I called apple and they said this Apple no longer exists and is not in there system, which I knew already. After hours on the phone nobody could help me. Try this.
    -Go to create a new Apple ID and use the same email address as the old apple ID which is locked in on your ipad
    -Create a new password and all that, it will say it send a verification link to your email, in my case my email no longer exists so I could not do this
    - I called Apple to explain this problem and I asked if they could verify it for me, which they did after I convinced them it was worth a try. The guy told me that the verification shouldnt matter and should still be able to login but he did it anyway. You can try skipping this step but if it doesn't work then go ahead.
    -Go to ICloud and click on your account, the email should be grayed out but it should allow you to change that password, put in the new password which you just created.
    -This allowed me to sign in to accept the new terms and conditions but it said "unable to conncet to server" so I just backed out and went to "Delete Account" and it worked!
    The whole idea is to re-create your old apple ID into Apple's system and then use that new password. The guy at Apple said tons of people called about this problem and nobody could solve it. I thanked him for helping me and he thanked me for helping him. I hope this helps you!

    HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME: I signed out of Facetime on my mac and then I could sign in on my ipad. Suddenly after 50 attempts, my ipad verified instantly (it didn't even send an e-mail, it just verified instantly). I guess being signed in on my mac caused some kind of conflict on Apple's servers. Now for the funny part: I was immediately able to sign-in again on my mac and now both my pad and mac have working FaceTime. You just can't be signed in on your mac when you are trying to setup FaceTime for the first time on the iPad. I guess.

    Do the following:
    Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
    Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless using iCloud Photo Library).  When finished goThen go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

    So I changed my Apple ID email address. I logged out of my account on my iPad when it had my old email address for iCloud and iTunes(and the App Store) and logged in using my updated email address. It worked with iCloud but for some reason the iPad will ask me to login using my old Apple id email address in the App Store even though I updated my email address in the settings and even though at the bottom of the screen (when I open up the App Store) my new email address is there. Now I cannot update my apps or download new ones because my iPad keeps asking for the password to the old Apple id email address that I no longer use and it's ext frustratin. I've repeatedly tried to login out of the App Store and re-enter my updated info but it doesn't change a thing. I've even tried to reset the iPad and log in with my new email address but that does not work either.... What else should I do?????

    Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iCloud on your devices after updating your Apple ID.  I recommend the following steps:
    Symptoms
    iOS 7 may ask for the password to your previous Apple ID when you sign out of iCloud.
    Resolution
    1. Use your current Apple ID password
    Trying using your current Apple ID password. If that doesn't work, continue to the next step.
    2. Sign out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime
    If you are currently signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
    If you are not signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
    3. Change your Apple ID temporarily
    If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't work, try these steps:
    Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
    Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out.
    Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
    Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

I've spent over 3 hours on the phone/chatting to online support and none of it seemed to help as it all revolved around resetting emails etc but can't do any of it without my access to my old email. Now my phone won't take cloud because they advised to set up new apple ID and use that, but can't sign out of old one completely.     I just did follow Varjak's instruction, but it refused. I was asked to enter my Apple ID's email address which unfortunately is the same as my Apple ID. I created two different passwords for each Apple ID n primary email address when I set up my I tune account in the first place, however.
    I do remember my Apple ID password because I have used it every time I installed new apps, but I completely forgot my password for the primary email address because I've never used it at all! I have another email address which I actively use it for all my email. I want to change my primary email address which happened to be my Apple ID as well to the one I actively use.
    Because of the explained problem, I can't log in to Icloud as I have been asked to verify by following the instruction sent to my primary email address.
    I would really appreciate it if any one can help me solve this problem.

    My iMessage recently stopped working. When I attempt to log back in it tells me "your apple ID (email address) cannot be used to set up imessage at this time" then gives me a code to share with Apple support. (See screen shot). Any suggestions?

    There is no official public documentation of that error message as far as I know, but according to reports, it can mean (at least sometimes) that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a free service.
    Otherwise, do what the error message tells you to do.
