FaceTime: waking computer from sleep

Hi it's good that facetime calls will come in even if facetime is not running but does anyone know if facetime will wake a laptop from sleep if / when someone calls? I have tried this but doesn't seem to be able to do that.

Sometimes it's just not possible to know what happened. Apple is the first to admit that there are occasionally unexplainable events that occur. They recommend performing disk repair in case some slight corruption has occurred in the HDD directory.
Boot from your grey-labeled Install Disc 1, get past the first (language selection) screen of the installer sequence, and (after fully loading) the second screen will contain a "Utilities" pull-down in the menu bar. Open and select Disk Utility. On the left side of the box, select the top-most drive shown, on the right side select "First Aid" and then click the "Verify Disk" or "Repair Disk" button. Allow to run to completion. Run a second time to be sure, or until it shows No Repairs Needed. Do not run Disk Permissions Repairs, but instead quit the installer version of Disk Utility, quit the installer process, and restart to your usual startup disk, which you can re-select using "Startup Disk" also located in the "Utilities" pull-down where you found Disk Utility. After restarting, Repair Disk Permissions in a similar manner after opening the version of Disk Utility located in your Applications>Utilites folder.

How do I stop aluminium wireless keyboard from waking computer from sleep?

My aluminium wireless keyboard wakes my computer from sleep, at random occasions. Sometimes after five minutes, other times up to four hours. Sometimes not at all. My iMac wakes up (annoyingly during the night, waking me up as well) and screen says "Connection Lost", showing the greyed out keyboard-logo. It's not lying either—keyboard doesn't work, for about 30 sec until the stupid thing finds it again and all is back to normal.
*What can I do to stop this irrational behavior?*
Could this be a bluetooth hardware-malfunction?
(Background: My iMac has been acting this way, as far as I can recall, throughout all of the 10.6.X-upgrades—from time to time. Reason I am posting this now is that I haven't had this problem for a couple of months now, but it came back out of nowhere the other night, about a week ago. And I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary, that I haven't done at least a couple of times during this period where it all worked fine.)
Additional information: I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem at hand, but when using the bluetooth for something other than just keyboard+mouse, say syncing my Nokia phone, the mouse always goes haywire and acts all laggy, trickling across the screen as I try to move it.

Yes, that sounded indeed like a daft question, but as it seems changing the batteries did actually solve the puzzle. I am baffled by this, as the batteries claimed to be at 40% and shouldn't need to be changed. But I changed them after reading your reply, and the problem stopped. Now, one week and a couple of days later, the problem still has not reoccurred.
For one reason or another, once batteries drop under a certain level of power, the keyboard connection will start acting up. I feel a bit silly, should have checked that bit myself before posting my question, but I'm glad this solved my problem. Thank you ajduguid.

Mouse waking computer from sleep

I'm using a wireless USB Logitech mouse with my MacBook. Moving the mouse wakes the computer from sleep and I would like to disable this function. Is there a way to change the setting so the computer requires a keystroke to wake it?

How to prevent iCloudDrive from waking computer from sleep?

My PC wakes up periodically from sleep. After the checking the event logs, the logs show that iCloudDrive.exe process is causing the computer to wake up from sleep. I do not want to disable all system wake timers, but I do not know how to prevent iCloudDrive from waking up the computer. The expiration date keeps changing forward.

In the Bluetooth System Preferences click the Advanced button, then uncheck the Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer checkbox.

Basically when I wake the comp from sleep, the comp itself turns on, but the monitor does not respond at all. I have to force shutdown all the time. When I turn on the computer, the monitor displays picture again.

I understand that you are having issue with your HP Pavilion 22bw IPS LED Backlit Monitor waking up after being put into sleep mode by your HP Pavilion 500-314 Desktop PC running Windows 8.1. I would like you to ensure that you have the AMD Graphics Driver installed. As well there is no HP Pavilion 22bw IPS LED Backlit Monitor Driver for Windows 8.1, but you can try installing the HP Pavilion 22bw IPS LED Backlit Monitor Driver, which is for Windows 8 in compatibility mode.
As there are no additional drivers for your monitor if the issue persists beyond what I have posted you can try the steps below to turn off the computer putting the monitor to sleep to begin with:
Step 1. At the Tiles Menu type "power"
Step 2. Click on Power and Sleep Settings
Step 3. Select "Never" for both settings

Will the computer awake from sleep at the prompting of auto-update?

I very much doubt that the computer would wake from sleep. If my understanding is correct, the auto-update feature works by just checking every now and then if there are any updates available. It cannot perform this check while it is sleeping.
So, I think I can safely say that the answer is: no.

Slow response time w/bluetooth after waking computer from sleep

     Hello everyone. I have an issues and here are the steps used to reproduce it as well as my specs and thoughts. I have taken this in to Apple retail to check, but the problem could not be re-produced (I think the computer as well as the bluetooth devices have to sleep for this to happen). By the way, does anyone know how long it take for the bluetooth Apple keyboard, mouse and trackpad take to auto-sleep after in-activity?

     Basically, after the computer has been to sleep (and I think the bluetooth devices also because this does not happen instantly after sleep if you wake it back up as the Apple Genuis tried and could not get it to happen) and I wake it about 30 minutes or later with either the built in keyboard or any bluetooth device, all bluetooth devices are responding (connected for sure), but my cursor for exmaple jumps across the screen and the keyboard wont type and is super slow. Keep in mind that the whole time this is happening, the built in keyboard and trackpad work great (leads me to think this is bluetooth hardware or software related). After about 1 minute, I can move the mouse cursor normally and type in my password to login. I will eventually take a screen-recording and show my perspective. I have taken this into an Apple retail store, and they could not get it happen, but I think this has to do with the bluetooth devices sleeping, or the amount of time after sleep. We only waited for the front light on the Macbook to go bright and dim to confirm it was asleep and then woke it up and everything worked ok. The Genuis also check all hardware and confirmed the bluetooth hardware was working. I never had this problem at all with Snow Leopard. This happened as soon as I upgraded to Lion, I thought maybe I had a problem with the upgrade from SL to Lion, but I re-installed Lion (fresh) and still have the same exact problem.

I just had a similar issue and fixed it by turning off the keyboard, waiting for the computer to recognise that, then turned it back on, all better.
Last night I manually activated SLEEP from the Apple menu - I rarely do this but thought of it to kill the glare as I went to sleep. This morning it woke up ok, but typing on the BT keyboard was super slow (I was changing windows then watching the keypresses appear in the new field, about one per second) and a special-characters popup was appearing (never seen that before). The Magic Mouse was working fine, as were the onboard keyboard and trackpad.
My laptop (MBP 17" 2.53 i5) recently upgraded from SL10.6.8 to Lion 10.7.2, I have yet to apply the 10.7.3 patch.

No visual indicator for audio playback, after waking computer from sleep

I am using iTunes 11.1.3 on Lion 10.7.5.
After my computer has been asleep and I wake it, I get no visual indicator for a song playing In the big square in the top middle of the window). There's only the Apple logo, as if no song was playing.
Relaunching iTunes fixes the problem, but then it appears after the computer has been asleep again.

That Did The Trick...
Putting Airport Service First, and the putting My Network First on the list.
Airport Service WAS NOT the first. That Was Bluetooth.
Computer Sleept and Woke Up... And Voila... Network in a Second.

Remote - waking computer from sleep

The Remote App rocks - but the only slight niggle I have with it is that if my Mac is asleep then I have to go upstairs to wake it up before I can connect Remote to play music on the various Airport speakers I have around the house.
I could leave the computer on the whole time, but I don't really want to do that - does anyone know if there is a way of setting it to wake when the Remote tries to connect?

And not be using Wifi, which doesn't let you use the magical 'Wake On LAN' functionality. Anyone in the 21st century with a wireless LAN is stuffed.
Maybe some way to do it with Bluetooth? (Though I haven't found a way, but have paired iPhone with my Mac, and have 'Allow Bluetooth to wake this computer' - I can't kickstart it...)
That would be really really REALLY handy! (Sorry I don't have a solution)

Connecting wirelessly after waking computer from sleep yields the message "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual". This only occurs after sleep, it also does not allow it to autoconnect like when starting the computer up. All
drivers seem to be up to date and happens at more than one wireless location, home and school. I have a windows 7 opperating system.

I just had the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.
I was able to resolve the problem by uninstalling my Intel Centrino Wireless Network adapter (but I did not delete the driver). I did this by right-clicking My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, expanded the Network Adapters group, and right-click the
Wireless Network Adapter and click Uninstall. I recommend that you reboot once this is done.
My laptop now connects to Wifi immediately after waking the laptop from sleep.
This is what finally resolved my problem. Sony Vaio with 64bit Windows 7. Wireless would sometimes take up to 3 minutes after Windows started to connect. After following these instructions, I first removed all wireless networks, then from the System Control
Panel I deleted (along with the driver) the Wireless Adapter. I then installed a fresh driver directly from the maker (not OEM).
I now connect to Wifi immediately after booting or waking from hibernation.

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:

If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
3. Click the "First Aid" tab
4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked

Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:

After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

My computer is waking prematurely from sleep.
When I type in powercfg -lastwake it says that it is the Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller - 8CB1
I can't seem to disable this from waking the computer. Can anyone help?

Have you tried to select the power settings (Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power) under Device Manager for the Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller? (You may check the related USB devices with
the above settings)
As this is 3rd-party products related, you may also consider seek help at the Intel sdie and see if they could offer any helpful suggestions.

Did you not bring all your important data over from your old computer? Do you have a backup of the iTunes library that you can restore? If not, then its not to late, just more work that it should be.
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I'm having the same problem with a Black Macbook C2D 2.4Ghz. Installed Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 and whenever the computer sleeps, it completely hangs on wake. I've installed the system twice and the behavior is the same. Tried pulling each of the RAM sticks. No difference. Anybody else?
