FaceTime with a iPod Touch bought from Dubai?

My friend bought a 4th gen iPod Touch from Dubai which has iOS 4.1 (8B118) installed. Model No. MC540AB.
We opened the box here in India & later came to know that FaceTime is blocked in gulf countries & therefore we don't see any FaceTime app on our iPod touch - this is freaking us out.
We use it with our iTunes US store account here in India, so using US store account doesn't help
What are the workarounds ? the iPod is useless for us w/o FaceTime
Options I think available
1) Jailbreak ? (not preferred at all)
2) Upgrade to iOS 4.2.1
3) Install iOS of some other iPod touch 4th gen from other country or so from a site like

Although it is purchased form Dubai, but we are in India now & it should just work.

If FaceTime is not hidden by Restrictions (Settings>General<Restrictions) you got duped. iPods officially sold in Dubai and some other countries that prohibit FT do not have FT and there is not way to get FT on those iPods.

It will not work no matter how many times you choose to restore your iPod touch. If it is blocked than it is blocked. So prern do not restore your iPod. It will take up your time and will be a waste. Listen to stedman1 and Dave Sawyer. An by the way, Facetime is available on iOS 4...so again you are wrong.

I bought last saturday in Dubai airport a Ipod Touch for my son living in Seychelles.
We hped to use facetime between us, I'm living in France.
We were suprise to discovered that the icon Facetime is inexisting on the menu.
I read since that in meadle east country Facetime is not avialable.
No information figured on the pack, exactly similar to what we can find in France.
Could somebody give me the key to achieve this fonctionnality.
I bought it for Facetime connection between my son and me.....

It seems that the problem is more serious than expected.
i read on this forum that the serial number of the apparatus fix the fonctional uses.
Facetime is not accepted by middle east authorities in numberous countries as legal software due to the encrytion flow link used.
I red also that Iphone are concerned and the only solution found is to jailbreak the apparatus, a shame.
If you have any other idea don't hesitate.

Not unless it was found to be defective, and that would not reset the warranty on the original serial number.

Sometimes it's just wrong. Perhaps the reseller entered in the sales date incorrectly. Call Apple support and discuss the problem with them. They may ask you to fax them a copy of your receipt.

You'll probably have difficulty convincing them that the scratch wasn't there when you brought it in, but you can go back to the store and talk to them about it.

I have itunes set up to sync with my Ipod Touch and my Ipad. As of today, it keeps looking for an iPhone to sync with and give me an error message. I don't have an iPhone and don't know how to stop it from popping open with this error message.

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Hi Pez,
iTunes in the Cloud is not iCloud. Any songs that you have purchased but have not downloaded (or have deleted), go to iTunes in the cloud. The setting I mentioned will show all of your purchases in the various views in the Music app, whether they are on your device or not. If you turn that setting off, you will only see items that are actually on your device.
Glad to hear the second sync worked! But if they all start appearing again, make sure that setting is turned off

Cannot seem to get a signal from my router with my Ipod touch. Lap top and desk top are working fine.

I have been having trouble with my Ipod touch getting a signal from my 2wire router. This is an easy set up for lap top and desk top. Now I can't seem to get the internet with my ipod. The problem is most likely with your router. Follow the instructions in the router's manual to reset it. Also what security are you using? If it's WEP upgrade to WPA. The iPod sometimes has trouble with WEP "protected" routers. I put "protected" in quotation marks because WEP security is essentially useless. It can be hacked in less that 30 seconds.

Maybe you need to wait for a period of time? I set up my Apple ID last week(about on Wed) and yesterday it suddenlly worked on the Facetime. Do not know why? Also check whether you have another Apple ID has the same telephone numbers in the contact, cause Facetime will use them in contacting or being contacted.

If you mean that your deleted the MobileMe account from the Mail...Calender Settings on the iPod then your are out of luch.
