Facetime with my daughter

When I first got my laptop my daughter set up my mac book pro facetime with her info.  Shortly after, I deleted her facetime info on my laptop and added my email info.  Since then, I have no problem using facetime to reach anyone except for my daughter.  Every time I facetime my daughter (me on my mac book pro and her on her Iphone) it tells me that she is not available.  I know that her Iphone face time works fine.  it seems that my laptop set up still has her info and everytime I phone the laptop just call itself - help.

Yes, FaceTime requires a WiF connection. Skype is another option, as it is capable of using WiFi or 3G signal.

    Welcome to Discussions, mom222
FaceTime can work only with Apple devices that run FaceTime.

Either the latest iPhone or iPod touch could work to FaceTime with your daughter.
The FaceTime for Mac (beta) http://www.apple.com/mac/facetime/ can also work.
However, system requirements include an iNtel Mac and the latest Mac OS!
As lllaass mentions, Skype can now make video calls _to other Skype users_, but NOT to FaceTime users. Neither Skype nor any current PC software can connect with FaceTime.

  • Can you use facetime with same apple id but 2 email addresses (myself and my daughter)

I am having difficulty setting up Facetime.  My daughter and I have the 4thgen iTouch and are trying without luck to use the same apple id and 2 different email addresses to use Facetime.  Apple sends me a verification email to change the email address on the apple id to her email address, which I do not want.  Is it possible to set up Facetime this way.  If I set her up a separate apple id will all her old music and apps (under my apple id) still sync without problem?  Thanks

    Yes

However you can only sync all media from one iTunes library/computer. However, one can sync music and videos with different computers/libraries if you have iTunes setup to manually sync. See that method included here:

  • HT4623 I updated my phone today on a shared itunes account ( with my daughter ).  We are both getting each other's messages now.  Seems to be tied to I message.  Any suggestions?

I updated my phone today on our family itunes account.  I currently have the iphone 4 and needed updates. At the end of the update I got a message that my phone info would now be the same as my daughter's ( who usually uses the itune account). I didn't have a yes or no option. It was a statement.  Now I am getting her text messgaes and she is getting mine if the other person has imessage.  I also got her app's when my phone updated.... HELP!

    Hi, jandmmiller.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This issue would be caused by both devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.  I would recommend signing out of iMessage on his device.  Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.  Once this is done, I would recommend creating a new Apple ID specifically for iMessage and FaceTime here.  Then he would need to sign in to iMessage and FaceTime with the new Apple ID.

  • I want to set up iMessage and Facetime for my daughter.  I know I have to create a new apple ID but can I still sync her iPod to my iTunes account?

I bought my daughter an iPod touch for Christmas.  I orginally set up her iPod with my Apple ID but I realized that she needed her own apple ID in order to use iMessage and Facetime with me.  So if I create an Apple ID for her, can I link it to my email? Will I still be able to sync her iPod to downloaded songs from my Apple ID?

No, sorry.  Purchases are permanently tied to the AppleID & Account used when making the purchase.  Purchases cannot be transferred to another AppleID.

  • Do I set up 2 new iPads with my daughter's individual apple ids or my apple id which is linked to the iTunes account which we will use on both iPads to allow us to share apps, ebooks etc?

Do I set up 2 new iPads with my daughter's individual apple ids or my apple id which is linked to the iTunes account which we will use on both iPads to allow us to share apps, ebooks etc?

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

  • Will i be able to communicate via face time in china with my daughter on her macbook in the states?

I have not purchased an IPAD yet...I want to make sure what I get is readily useable when I move to China as I want to insure that I can communicate with my daughter in the states.  She has a 13" MacBook with Skype.

Depending on the OS version your daughter's MacBook is running, she can download and install Apple's FaceTime app from Apple's Mac App Store, and FaceTime is included with the iPad 2.
    http://www.apple.com/mac/facetime/
This can be done when the computer and your iPad is connected via an avilable wi-fi network.
There is also a Skype app available for the iPad.

I have bought itunes songs on an ipad with my daughter apple id. i would like to back them up on the same computer I sync my iphone with using my apple id but they will not transfer. Both iphone and ipad have only been synced on the computer mentioned since they were purchased. Is there any way to get the ipad music transferred to the computer?

And they were definitely purchased from the iTunes store, they show on the account's purchase history (Store > View Account on a computer's iTunes, or you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com) ?
You could potentially log into the account on that computer's iTunes (Store > Sign Out to log out of your account, that will then change to a Store > Sign In option) and redownload them by clicking on the id towards the top right of the iTunes screen and Purchased on the popup :
But that will potentially tie that computer to that account for 90 days : Manage your associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support
Or do you have a different computer that you could redownload them on and then copy them over to that computer via a flash drive or memory card, and then add them to its iTunes via File > Add To Library ?

    On you Apple TV
General > Settings >Itunes Store > Add New Account (put yours in here)
Then Switch account to your Apple Id

  • I traded iPads with my daughter. How do I get my iTunes account on this one? When I try to update it wants her information?

I traded iPads with my daughter. How do I get my iTunes account on this one? When I try to update it wants her iTunes information.

You can tap on the account in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores if it's on iOS 6) and log out of it and then log in with yours. But if any of the apps that are currently on the iPad were downloaded by her account then only her account will be able to download updates to those apps - content from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, not to the account that is currently logged in.

  • I have an ipod that i share with my daughter she put in a password and has forgotten what and is currently locked out of the ipod.  How do we bipass this to create a new one or delete it all together without losing anything currently installed?

I have an ipod that i share with my daughter she put in a password and now cannot remember it an is locked out.  How can we delete the currently existing useless password and not lose any of the information on the ipod?

If you cannot remember the passcode for the Screen Lock, you will need to Restore the device...
    1)  Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore...

    2)  If necessary Place the Device into Recovery mode...

You can continue to share the same iTunes account ID with your daughter and set up a separate iCloud account with a different ID.
=> is this a different iCloud account for each device?  I thought iCloud account ID had to match some iTunes account ID, for which we only have one i Tunes account?
You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data.  If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s).  If, for example, you owned two devices and someone else in the family also owned two devices, you would both want your own iCloud accounts, and you would each set up your personal iCloud account on the two devices you own.  In other words, you want a separate iCloud account for each person to be used on the devices they own.  Each iCloud account has to have a separate Apple ID.  The ID does not need to be the same as the ID used for iTunes.  Many families perfer to share the same iTunes account/ID, but maintain separate iCloud accounts with different IDs to keep there data separated.

=> what ID, iTunes?  So I can have a separate iCloud account "only" ID which I also assume must be some [valid] email address?  The children currently do not have email accounts anywhere.
Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.  In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple.  Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account.  When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process.  If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service.  They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID.

  • I share an itunes account with my daughter, didn't realize that updating to ios6 and the cloud would link our phones.  This is a fiasco, anyone have any advice how to remedy?

I ran ios6 updates on my ipad and iphone, not knowing that using the icloud and sharing an itunes account with my daughter, would have our phones and my ipad now linked together.  My contacts are gone (875 of them) and I have her contacts, and our text messages are now shared like a party line!  Can anyone help me with this?  What to do now, I don't want to sync or do anything to any device!!

iCloud is designed to be used by one user with all their devices "linked" together.  Your daughter needs to have her own icloud account.  Using one Apple ID for an iTunes account is a different situation, you can certainly share the account with your daughter.  That way she can access purchased items without paying again.
If she already has another icloud account, and wants to set it up on her device, then go to Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account.  This only disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost on icloud.  Then enter the account ID that she wants to use.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
As for your lost contacts, they are gone.  You only hope is if the contacts were also on your computer and (if gone now) you have made frequent backups of the computer (like using Time Machine on a mac).  Just restore the contact files back to your computer.
