FaceTime won't use USB microphone
I recently purchased a Samson Go Mic from Amazon. Yesterday, I received the product and connected it to my laptop, a MacBook Pro 2012 13". After changing the audio input to the microphone, I was able to use Quicktime X to record a video using the microphone. Later, when I called my dad through FaceTime, the computer no longer recognized my Go mic, and only recognized my EarPods. When I unplugged the EarPods, the audio switched to the built-in microphone of my computer, and not the Go Mic. How can I use the superior Go Mic with FaceTime?
Hello Suzanne,
Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Do you have SP1 installed for Windows 7?
Is that a laptop or Desktop ?
What is the name of the manufacturer for your USB Webcam ?
What is the name of the manufacturer for your computer ?
Make sure you have Presenter 9.0.2 update installed. (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5690)

Using USB Microphone With GarageBand iPad?
Hi, I have the Samson G-Track USB Microphone and have been using it with GarageBand for iPad (with a powered USB hub) and I was wondering if there is a way to enable "Monitor" so that when I speak into the microphone I can hear myself in the headphones? I have no problem recording with the microphone, I just can't hear myself when I'm recording. There are a few switches on the actual microphone that could control this or it could all be controlled from iPad itself, just looking for anyone who could help with this matter. Thanks!
I'm having the same problem trying to monitor my turntable recording via a USB phono amp connected via a USB hub to the photo connection kit.
Have you had any help with this yet? -
Using USB microphone with iBook
I have an iBook G4 and GarageBand 1.1. I recently bought a MicFlex USB microphone, but I can't make it record. I have set the system preferences and I can set the record level for the USB mic there, but GarageBand automatically uses the built-in microphone for recording. How do I change this?
No worries, now you're a little less new. Enjoy --Hang

I currently use an M-Audio FastTrack Pro and an XLR condenser microphone. But setting is all up to record vocals is time consuming for my young son. I was thinking of getting a USB mic with a desk stand for him to use for recording his vocals. Anyone out there using Logic Express 8 and a USB mic? How do I set it up? Any suggestions for a good mic under $100?
ThanksBest solution: Teach your son how to use the "right" mic. Sorry, but I would not recommend the USB thing-mic. If it's "just for play", buy any mic. If it's for real recording, stick to pro hardware.

Can't adjust input level when using usb microphone
Hey guys,
I'm very familiar with this version of Garageband, and just started using a Blue Snowball USB mic. When I plug it in and set the drivers accordingly, the input volume slider is greyed out, making it inaccessible. Is there a trick to being able to adjust input volume?Option Click on the Volume slider icon in the menu bar and choose Sound Preferences. Choose the interface and you should be able to see the input level.

Record Video won't use USB Webcam
Hello,
I am using Adobe Presenter 9/PowerPoint 2013 (32 bit) on a Windows 7 machine.
I am trying to use the Record Video function of Presenter, however, I can't seen to use an external USB webcam.
Steps.
1. I click Settings
2, I choose USB 2.0 PC Cam
3. I click OK
4. I get a message on the recording screen that the camera is turned off
(I attempt to click the picture of the camera to turn it on, nothing happens)
5. I go back into settings and the Selected camera is reset to None.
I know the camera works as I can use it in other applications.
Any help would be appreciatedHello Suzanne,

How can I "import" Facetime Camera with external USB microphone?
In Final Cut Pro, there's an option to "import" the FaceTime Camera. BUT, it only works with the built in mic on my laptop.
I also found a window for recording audio voiceovers That one lets me pic the mic, but doesn't have an option for video.
Is there a way to do this (in FCPX 10.1.1)
Thanks!
- JackI don't think you can do it with FCPX (I don't have a FaceTime camera and my webcam doesn't seem to work). But you can import with QuickTime Player X. Just open the app and select File->New Movie Recording.
Once you have a recording window open, you'll see a downpointing arrow in the controls box (see red circle in attached image. In that menu you can select the camera and audio input separately. -
Why won't my USB mic work with Facetime?
I use a headset for chatting on my Macbook Pro because the audio quality is better than the stock speakers and built in mic. For some reason today when I'm using Facetime, its only receiving audio input through the built in mic on the laptop. The computer is detecting that there is another mic connected, and it works fine when using Skype or Ventrilo, but won't use it for Facetime. The output works fine. I can still hear everything through my headset, it just won't use my headset mic. It was working correctly with my headset mic last night, and after restarting my computer this afternoon, this problem started. Anyone have any ideas?

I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone. Will the base mini model run these programs?
The base mini has 4GB and a 5400 RPM hard drive. It is slow to start up and slow to launch large application such as Word (and I'd assume Adobe Audition) due to the slow drive. I've not used a new 4GB model, just the 8GB model, and the 8GB model (except for the slow drive) handles everything I've thrown at it, including running Photoshop, Word, Safari, and Mail at the same time but there is sometimes a delay switching between programs as the swapfile is updated. Overall I was not happy with the 5400 RPM drive (perhaps because I have MBA and iMac with Fusion drive) so I eventually upgraded it with an SSD. Now the mini is truly a warrior.

In the new IOS 7, my IMessage and FaceTime won't let me log in using the correct Apple ID and password. How can I fix this?
Other users have reported same problem with 4G iPod/iOS 6.1.6 and I have not seen a solution. One user reported yesterday or the day before that it just started working again.

FaceTime won't start because my camera is not switched on. How do I switch the camera on? Am using Mavericks on a MacBook Pro
You're most welcome, FlutePixzy!
FlutePixzy wrote: ... Apple Care netted nothing... Except they noted I have an older laptop...
If your older laptop meets Apple's published minimum OS X Mavericks: System Requirements, Apple technicians can make it work on your older laptop (if you decide that any service cost is worth the expense.) If so, call Apple Care again and politely ask them how to proceed. Ask to speak with a supervisor or manager if you don't get satisfaction. Limit the discussion to your Mac's problem(s).
Your assessment of Apple's shortcomings are unlikely to help anything.
Technicians may need to inspect your Mac before they can give you an accurate service cost estimate. There may be a separate charge for the inspection of your older Mac, so ask about that, too, if cost is an issue for you.

Is it possible to disable the Facetime camera and use an external webcam as a default? So that when you access browser based applications that require a webcam it doesnt default to the Facetime camera but uses the USB webcam instead?
Cheers.(1) You don't need to "disable" anything to select among cameras connected to your Mac.
For all cameras you access via browser based applications (cameras connect via Flash browser plugins), control-click on an open video window in your browser page and adjust the camera settings to select between a connected USB and Firewire video camera. Specific instructions are here:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help04.html
If you don't see a choices of cameras in the Flash settings, your Mac is only recognizing one camera. Verify that your external cam is Mac-compatible and properly connected.
Your choice is stored in preferences so the same camera will activate on the next browser page until you change it.
(2) BTW, a current (Feb 2013) discussion of how to select among connected Mac cameras for a few more apps is available here: http://discussions.apple.com/message/21158673#21158673

Feedback using 2 USB microphones
Hi,
We have installed 2 Marshall AC404 usb microphones on a PC using Lync for a client, but they appear to be getting feedback.
Is there something in the settings that needs to be changed in order to get them working simultaneously?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
RoshanHello Roshan,
You should use one microphone if you want to attend/make audio or video call from Lync Client
Once only one microphone is connected, You can check both audio/video quality
To check audio quality
In the Lync main window, click the audio device menu in the lower left corner, and then click
Audio Device Settings.
Under Audio Device, in the Select the device you want to use for audio calls list, select your USB device.
Under Customize your device, next to both
Speaker and Ringer, click the green play button, and make sure you hear a sound. Then speak into your USB device, and make sure the
Microphone indicator bar shows activity.
Click Check Call Quality to test your audio quality.
To check video quality
In the Lync main window, click the Options
button in the upper right corner, and then click Video Device.
Under Video Device, in the Select the webcam you want to use for video calls list, select your webcam.
Verify that your video shows correctly.
Click OK

My iMessage and Facetime won't activate, says waiting for activation. All photos and contacts are restored, using email and wifi only, no service. Only issue is date and time will not automatically set.
Howdy eewebe13,
So you have no cellular service but are on Wi-Fi yet iMessage and Facetime are waiting for activation.
Please step through this article for that scenario.

External usb microphone not working with FaceTime and mac mini with os x Yosemite
Hello
When I try to do a phone call with face time through my iphone 6 face time is not recognizing my external usb microphone connected to my mac mini. I have just updated my mac mini to os x Yosemite. If I go to the audio system preferences and look to the audio input signal I can see that the external microphone (SB Omni Surround 5.1) is working (audio input level is showing an input signal).
Can someone help. I saw that this was also an issue in the beta versions of Yosemite.
Thanks.
BR StefanInteresting. I don't have a USB mic on the Mac Pro. Its the OLD FireWire 300 iSight. It works for FaceTime calls but not the iPhone call via the FaceTime app.
I also have 2010 MBP that works perfectly, even since the first Public Beta. I'm to sure if that mic is considered an external USB device or not, or if it has to do with device signatures vs. external or internal. I would almost assume that the built-in mic is on the USB bus. How would it be any different than the external USB.
I think I have to agree that this is a point release bug. I have submitted a bug report at bugreport.apple.com, and would ask others to do the same, or at least post to apple.com/feedback. The more noise we make through process the more likely to get a fix in the .1 release.
