Factory Original PowerBook RAM?
What brand of RAM did Apple ship with the PowerBook G4 15" 1.5ghz, and is this the same RAM you would get if you bought RAM through the Apple Store? Looking to upgrade my RAM, and from all of the headaches other people have had with PowerBooks and RAM upgrades it seems like the best route would to be to get the same RAM that the PowerBook originally shipped with.
PowerBook G4 15" 1.5Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Last year, Apple was using Samsung memory. Apple would love to sell you additional memory, as you generally pay twice what you could buy it for on the open market.
Generally, the only time people have difficulties with RAM is when they try to go cheap. We know the PB's architecture is RAM-sensitive. If you stick with known brands, three of which are Samsung, Crucial, and Kingston, you should be OK. Crucial, www.crucial.,com, guarantees its RAM will work as long as you use their web site memory selector. I'd expect Kingston would too (note, their Valueline RAM isn't for PB). Lifetime warranty is helpful another indicator. I've used all three brands manufacturer's recommended RAM sticks in PB's, with no issues.
If you go Kingston and want to order from their website, www.kingston.com, click specials, click promotions (might have those two reversed), click notebook memory, do the machine lookup, and you'll save up to 25% off their list. They also give you prices from several other sellers.
One seller of Samsung is Other World Computing, and their memory is http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iBooks-PowerBooks/G4-Aluminum/ Samsung is about half way down the page under the 'OWC PC2700....' category.

Has anyone installed Leopard on Original Powerbook G4?
Hello everyone, I would like to ask if anyone has installed Leopard on their original Powerbook G4, 17"
with 1G Ram and 1Gz Processor? Does anyone think it will work okay? or will it slow the computer down? Thanks for answering in advance.I've been itching to buy a nice new 17" MacBook Pro but in light of Apple's apparent big slide in MB Pro's quality control, I'm putting it off for a while.
There's no shortage of folks who are having problems with them; just check the MacBook Pro threads, here.
And four of my five friends in the film animation industry who have purchased MacBook Pros in the past year have had to return them due to defects, i.e. screen problems, fan problems, overheating problems, keyboard problems, assorted other problems.....some are already on their 3rd MB Pro and STILL no joy.
It seems that getting a problem free MacBook Pro right out of the box is a total crapshoot. Certainly outrageous for a $2800 machine.
So I'm waiting, and keeping my fingers crossed, in hope that the quality control issues are remedied. But, God, I want one really badly! -
Is my original powerbook battery ok?
Sorry, if this subject has been covered in previous threads. I've trawled the web with no joy, so far.
My original powerbook battery which has hardly been used and shows fully charged (on laptop screen indicator and battery led lights, when battery check button is pressed) will not run the powerbook. Without the power adaptor being connected, the powerbook shuts down after minutes.
Can anyone suggest a fix on this, or point me in the right direction for further information.
Thanks, in advanceYour battery is dead, partly because it has hardly been used and partly because it's old. The average lifespan of a Powerbook battery that has been treated well is 2-4 years. A few batteries last longer than four years, but they are rare. A battery that sees little or no activity will die faster than one that is used lightly but regularly.
You'll need to replace your battery. When you get a new one, read this outstanding User Tip for information about how to make it last:

I have a 12” powerbook G4 with a 1.33GHz processor and have noticed that programs have been running a bit slow on my 256 of factory installed ram. I have one slot available for adding a new stick and am not sure if it is worth the money to put in 1Gb or just triple what I have by adding in 512. A gig stick is 3-4x the cost of the 512 & I don’t run any major major memory burning programs. Any advice? Thanks

Reload computer software to factory original from hard disk partion D
I have an HP Pavillion Slimline s3750t, bought in May 2009
It originally had Windows Vista
It has a partitioned hard drive with the factory image on drive D
A few months after purchase I loaded Windows 7 Home Premium
I would like to wipe drive C clean and restore to the original factory condition.
I did the following steps:
PC Help & Tools
Recovery Manager
Advanced Options
Select: Recover your computer to its original factory condition
A couple of ‘Next’ and Win 7 shuts down, and Systems Recovery Options screen comes up
It asks for a user name and password and gives 3 options:
ASPNET (I don’t know what that is plus when trying it nothing happens (I have no password for it)
Dallas (my name)
HomeGroupUser$ (I am not hooked up to a homegroup right now)
I select Dallas and get 5 options: Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, Command Prompt.
None of these are the options I am looking for nor will do what I want.
Apparantly loading Windows 7 has interferred with the software that restores the computer to its factory condition. Is there something els I can try.You can try the patch from the following weblink:

I'm sure this is probably not possible, but worth a shot.
Can I transfer the 1GB RAM chip in my Powerbook G4 15" 1.5Ghz to my new MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz?If the mac does boot by some strange change you will be totally downgrading the performance of you computer as both chips will need to run at the speed of the slower chip from your PowerBook.
It is simply a bad idea. -
My 2005 IMAC will no longer boot into the Tiger OS. I have kept it upgraded and originally
added more upfront ram and video ram. I do not have the original disc. I need to know if it
is really too expensive for me to take somewhere and fix. It was being used frequently until
the end of 2012. Thanks.May be worth looking at this first:

1.5ghz 15" PowerBook RAM - 1gb Question
I just ordered a gig stick of the Samsung RAM for my powerbook. It is an older powerbook purchased about 8 months ago. Right now I have 2 sticks of 256 in it. My question for everyone is which slot I should put the gig stick in. Also, I plan on leaving one of the 256 in there to have a total of 1.25gb. Has anyone done this and/or had any problems with this configuration?
Well, yes if you're planning to replace the other 256 stick I suppose it might be helpful to swap them over now, though honestly it's no big deal whichever way you decide to do it. I understand your nervousness, but I can honestly say this is probably the easiest RAM to change of the 5 computers I've upgraded. The most important thing is to get yourself the right screwdriver then just look at the opened up bay in conjunction with the printed-out instructions until you're happy you know what's required. Also make sure you're happy which side of the memory module is "up" - look at the one you're about to take out first.
I found the Apple document as good as it needed to be. I'm sure you'll be fine - just remember to "discharge" yourself by touching something metal before you start. Good Luck -
Getting the factory/original name of an effect back
Hello All,
I thought I was being soooo efficient by renaming my effects in the Effects Control Window, and now several years later I returned to a project to discover I can not recall what several of effects were originally named. I was using CS4 when I created the project.
I tried the ABOUT button, but on most effects it doesn't display anything and on some third party effects it only shows the manufacture's name. Is there a key combination or preference setting or toggle like in the Layers panel that shows either the Layer name/Source Name that will display the original name of the effect.
Thanks in Advance
On a Mac CS 5.5Nope, unfortunately not. Though on AEScripts or AEnhancers there's a script that dumps all effect info to a text fiel and using the internal matchnames you would then be able to reference your renamed effects...

Original Powerbook 400 DVD malfunction
My original Ti 400 first generation at 10.3.9 software. The DVD player works fine, but if I use the fast forward, I get Fractaled thumbnail pictures in the background, and the cursor morphs into a garbled thumbnail of text, obscuring the arrow cursor. What are the options for upgrading to a more modern dvd player, I can't find any current DVD updates for this machine.
JohnHi, bwano. The Drive Compatibility Database at www.xlr8yourmac.com contains user reports on many different optical drives that have been installed in Tibooks. There are now dozens of options with a huge variety of features. Note that your "Mercury" Tibook model uses (and requires) an optical drive mounting bracket that is not used in the three later Tibook generations, so you'll need to make sure the drive you choose is compatible with that bracket. I've never seen it myself, so I don't have any sense of what it looks like or what being compatible with it would entail.

I remember having a language program that came with my G4 aluminum 15 inch powerbook. I trashed it shortly after I got it but need it now. It is not the simple translation program but gave lessons in multiple foreign languages. I reinstalled the powerbook software I also used pacifist to look through Panther and Tiger but cannot find it. Any ideas where this program was and what it was called. Thanks.
Possibly could have been Sherlock. Here's the included software back in the day:
Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Sherlock, Address Book, QuickTime, iLife (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD(4)), iSync, iCal, DVD Player, Classic environment, Art Directors Toolkit, EarthLink TotalAccess 2003 (includes 30 days of free service), FileMaker Pro 6 Trial, GraphicConverter, Microsoft Office v. X Test Drive, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, QuickBooks for Mac New User Edition, Zinio Reader, Developer Tools, and Apple Hardware Test

Need 1GB RAM for Powerbook 1.67
I am looking for a 1GB RAM. Is there any recommendation?
I called the Apple store, they have it instock, but the price is $300. I tried to ask them what brand, but they had no idea. They said it's "made for Powerbook"
Also found a Kingston on eBay (KTA-PBG4333), and the price is pretty reasonable--almost half of what Apple sells, and comes with a lifetime warranty.
Is anyone using Kingston? Is it reliable and anyone recommend it?Do also be aware that at least numerous of the hi-res Aluminums have really finicky memory slots and pretty much require the "factory original" Samsung's. When I first upgraded mine I got the 1GB OWC, which kept freezing my machine; sent it back for another 1GB, which couldn't be recognized; and finally sent it back to them and got the Samsung, which has run flawlessly. They tested the chips I sent back and they worked fine-- just not in this machine... (My uncle's does the exact same thing-- and based on the threads, a bunch of other people's too).
Thus, whoever you get it from, make sure they've got good customer support. In the event yours is one of the ones who need the "factory original" RAM, you'll want good people! -
Is Hynix an original RAM for iMac?
I bought an iMac in Houston Texas on september 2006, almost two years ago. I had some problems with it so I took it to a support office. When they gave it back to me, I opened the memory slot to put another RAM I had inside, ant I'm pretty sure the memory in it was NOT the original, but I can't remember like 150% sure. The RAM was Hynix brand. Question is...
Does this memory -Hynix, made in Korea- possibly be in an original iMac, or they don't use this brand on iMac original factories? If it's not, then I can be sure I was 'stolen' -or 'exchanged'- and the original iMac RAM being replaced for a crappy one instead of the one who came along with it when I bought it, brand new.
Does anyone know about this, or where can I find out? Is Hynix RAM supported and released in original iMacs?
Thanks in advance!Hello msimonovic, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes, my (Jan 06) Early Core Duo was shipped with a Hynix 512MB ram module from the factory.

RAM from Powerbook vs. RAM for MacBook
Because Apple could not repair my Powerbook 17-inch, they replaced it with a new MacBook Pro. Now I have 2 GB of RAM I had installed in the Powerbook that I'd like to sell or trade for additional RAM for the MacBook. (I assume that the PC2-4200 from the Powerbook is not compatible with the MacBook -- please advise if that's incorrect.) How do I get some value out of the practically brand-new RAM from the Powerbook (which cost me $310 new in 11/2005)? I assume that the best way to get an additional 1 GB of RAM into the the new MacBook is simply to buy the appropriate RAM chip and install it -- but I'd appreciate any suggestions on that too.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1 GB of RAM
Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Terry
You're correct,The PowerBook RAM is not compatible with the MBP.
As far as selling the old RAM,Ebay is an option.
Although I seriously doubt you'll get anywhere near what you payed for it.
For new RAM,I use and reccommend OWC... http://macsales.com
