Factory recovery image with Windows 10
Use the media creation tool to download it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install There's an .iso or USB option. Much simpler than manufacturer media and a clean install with no junk. There's one for 8.1 as well if you ever need it.
It's a brand new World with Windows 10 and how Things Works in Win10.I'm now way near familiarized with it yet. My nephew is the first in the Family to get it, on a brand new computer. This computer doesn't come with a OEM licensed mediakit, så I throught that I would make a recovery kit from inside Windows. But I can't seem to find the right button to hit, I have tried making a recovery USB drive, but I think the data on it is to small to hold the entire installation. To me it seems, like it just startes to a recovery partition on the harddrive.I don't want that, cause that if the harddrive goes dead, then should we reinstall Windows on a new harddrive. I've looked on the web, but all I have found seems to use the partition on the harddrive.Can that be true, isn't here any way I can make af fully recovery USB drive, to use if the...

Factory recovery partition on windows 8 in Asus X551CALaptop
I purchased Asus x551CA notebook on 22nd Feb 2014. After about 45 days I formated hard disk partition
on which Activated Windows 8 operating systme was installed.I formatted an repartitioned HDD.
And I installed and uninstalled windows8 and windows 8.1 90 days enterprise evaluation edition. Because of
these link to factory recovery partition is broken.
I have created system image disks which are working to restore system. I forgot how I created these disks. May be
I did control panel>recovery>file history>windows 7 file recovery. So these disks should be System Image Backup.
I think these are not OEM recovery disks. When I insert these disks during reset and refresh I get a message
that "Media you inserted is not valid". And I am able to create system image on second partition of hard disk of
my laptop.I have also got product key of windows 8 by a program jellybean keyfinder.
To restore from discs created by me. I insert a repair disc then I go to UEFI settings. Then I change boot preferences to
boot from DVD. Then I go to Restore form images. Then computer asks me to insert my discs no from 1 to 4. One after the other. Then computer restore to windows 8. It looks alike as it was factory made.
-When I try to create a recovery drive by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
to the recovery drive". Please tell me how can it come with not grayed dialog box so that I can copy
recovery partition to USB pen drive? When notebook was new this check box was not grayed and I was able to
copy recovery partition on USB pen drive.
-Since I cannot copy recovery partition to USB therefore I also cannot reset and refresh windows 8 on
the basis of USB. It was working when notebook was new.
-And reset or refresh also not working on the basis of hidden recovery partition. How can it will start
working? It was working when notebook was new.
-I have tried diskpart command do make hidden recovery partition visible. But it becomes invisible
after restart. I used following command
1. Command Prompt Run as administer.
2. diskpart
3. list disk
4. select disk 0
5. list partition
6. select partition 6
7. assign letter z
by these commands hidden recovery partition becomes visible and again when I restart laptop it becomes invisible.
And I am not able to do anything with recovery partition E.G. copy the recovery partition to USB
When I created a system image using the following command I became able to refresh my PC. May be it was refreshing
on the basis of newly created image.
recimg /createimage D:\IMAGE81
recimg /setcurrent D:\IMAGE81
But it is also not working this time and it gives a message "Drive on which windows is installed is locked unlock it".
May because I installe AVG antivirus it locked the drive.
I also used REAgentC command
reagentc /setreimage /path F:\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /target C:\Windows /bootkey 4300
Maybe I executed above command once again I used D: instead of F:
And I was able to refresh PC but I was not able to Reset. And I was not able to copy recovery partition on USB
by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive.
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
to the recovery drive".
((I am giving images of computer management in first_image no partition was created it was in factory made state. And
in second_Image I created an extra disk partition which is present on disk this time.)) I cannot give images because
of my account is not varified.
So I am giving output of diskpart command to understand disk partitions.
C:\>diskpart

in the beginnig instead of D: (130 GB) and F:(128 GB) there was only one partition D:(258 GB) 130+128 GB.
Please tell me answers of following quesions:-
1. Tell me how to regain the link to factory recovery drive.
2. Please tell me how can I refresh and reset PC on the basis of Hidden Factory Recovery Partition. And how can I copy Hidden Factory Recovery Partition on USB and DVDs. I have 16GB USB pen drive and a DVD writer. So I can use these two storage media
only and except these I have 500GB HDD on my laptop.
4. I want to know that Factory recovery partition is useful or not. Should I delete it.
3. I have DVDs as I said above. On the basis of these I can reinstall windows 8. When I created these discs windows 8 was present on laptop. Currently windows 8.1 is present on laptop. Please tell me how can I create my own hidden recovery partition for
windows 8. I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So please tell me can I create my own hidden recovey partition for windows 8.1.
5. Can I download contents of factory recovery partition from internet.
6. Should I go to shopkeeper. He repairs computers as well. Probably he will manage for me to get Recovery partition discs. In this case these DVDs may be different from my DVDs as I mentioned above. Maybe only thing I get from these discs that I will
able to reset and refresh computer.
7. Microsoft shoult create a program that can re-establish link to factory recovery partition. And this program should be able to create new hidden recovery partition as well. As I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So I think I should have a new hidden recovery partition
for Windows 8.1. I think I can above thing my other way. If I create new set of DVDs by going to control panel>recovery> file history>System Image Backup. It will create discs for windows 8.1. And I will able to restore system to windows
8.1 by these discs. And for windows 8 I have already discs. But these discs will only work by changing boot options(by choosing UEFI) and image recovery. And reset and refresh functions will not work then in such situation factory recovery partition
will become useless. Then such situation I should delete factory recovery partition as it is useless.
8. At beginnign I also tried AI recovery burner. After trying it for 2-3 days I came to know that AI recovery burner is not for windows 8. There should be a tutorial for these thing so that people like me not waste their time.I used a software named UNDELETE on my hidden recovery partition to recover it. I get some files by this software. Important thing is that I got a 2.84 GB file named 00eebc9d.rb in dir D:\recovered1\Files Detected by their Signatures\Unknown Application\.rb.
This file may be useful. Please suggest me how can I use these files to reset and refresh my OS. I used some dir commands as follows to get list of these files:
dir /s >f:\list.txt
dir /s /a:s >f:\list2.txt
Some files were system files so these file were not shown by first dir command. So I used second dir command.
Output of dir /s >f:\list.txt

Kindly guide me how can I use my hidden recovery partition to reset and refresh by use of these files. -
Recovery Image vs windows 8.1 retail image
I am looking for a recommendation on how I should reinstall the OS for my HP Laptop.
When I got it, I burned the recovery image over 6 dvd's. I also bought from HP the recovery disks for the laptop. The problem is when you recover the image it can take a couple of hours to download the image from the dvd's and setup all the software. Then it takes a another few hours to download all the updates for the OS, Cyberlink software and drivers from hp. I know this because I have previously had to do that because of a virus and I had to zero format the hard drive to remove everything.
I have since discovered that I can use a Microsoft 8.1 disk (the pro will not work and you actually receive an error due to the way the bios offers the key code) and reinstall the OS directly and eliminate all the bloatware the recovery image has. This is actually a little faster since 8.1 is installed instead of 8.0.
I happen to like the Cyberlink software , so I bought serveral titles for use from an upgrade price. But I did not buy all the cyberlink software as I do not use all of it. What I didn't buy I can reinstall from the HP website. Except for a package that edits video from cyberlink that is included in the recovery image, but cannot be downloaded and installed without the recovery image being used. But again, that is software I do not use.
I use the laptop primarily for gaming - World of Warcraft, Eve Online, and Steam. I also do some automation using HP UFT.
I also have a Pro license Key and Media Pack key to upgrade from 8.1 version of Windows.
So based on my usage, which would be better? The recovery image or the windows 8.1 image? Will I miss any specialized hp software that can protect the laptop?
If you want to tell me to use Linux, I have a distro that will be installed along side it for use when I need that particular OS and the laptop will be used as a dual-boot machine.I can't use the One Key Recovery of my Y2P anymore, as I decreased the size of the C partition in favour of increasing D:\Data
OKR won't even start anymore...
Any chance to get OKR working again if I make these partitions the same sizes?
Who has the exact partition sizes in MB of the Y2P 20266 with Samsung PM851 256 GB SSD?
0 1 MB NO_NAME unallocated
1 1000 MB WINRE_DRV NTFS
2 260 MB SYSTEM_DRV FAT32 (EFI)
3 1000 MB LRS_ESP FAT32
4 128 MB NO_NAME Other
5 ? GB C:\Windows8 NTFS
6 ? GB D:\Data NTFS
7 14135 MB PBR_DRV NTFS Recovery
8 327 kB NO_NAME Unallocated
Data is backupped daily and I already have a full system backup together with a bootable USB stick that has been tested.
But I like to make sure I can reinstall Windows in the future..
Freedom of Speech has just left the building -
I'm trying to upload an image from my Windows Store App (Windows Phone 8.1) to hosting (using PHP) but always when I "uploaded" the image, and I check its result the "image" it's a corrupted file. I think it's related to the byte array
conversion but I haven't found another way to do it. This is my code:
C# Code:
byte[] ConvertBitmapToByteArray()
WriteableBitmap bmp = bitmap;
using (Stream stream = bmp.PixelBuffer.AsStream())
MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream();
stream.CopyTo(memoryStream);
return memoryStream.ToArray();
public async Task<string> Upload()
try
using (var client = new HttpClient())
using (var content =
new MultipartFormDataContent())
byte[] data = ConvertBitmapToByteArray();
content.Add(new StreamContent(new MemoryStream(data)), "userfile", fileNewImage);
using (
var message =
await client.PostAsync("http://xplace.com/uploadtest.php", content))
var input = await message.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();
return input;
catch (Exception ex)
return null;
PHP code:
<?php
header('Content-Type: application/json');
$uploaddir = getcwd();
$uploadfile = $uploaddir . "/" . basename($_FILES['userfile']['name']);
if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile)) {
echo '{"result": "sucessfull"}';
} else {
echo '{"result": "-1"}';
}?>
I wish someone could give me an idea about what I my mistake and how to fix it. Thanks in advance for your worthy knowledge.
Federico NavarreteThis is the answer to the problem someone gave me an idea that I have missed to translate to BMP.
byte[] ConvertBitmapToByteArray()
WriteableBitmap bmp = bitmap;
using (Stream stream = bmp.PixelBuffer.AsStream())
MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream();
stream.CopyTo(memoryStream);
return memoryStream.ToArray();
public async Task<string> Upload()
try
using (var client = new HttpClient())
using (var content =
new MultipartFormDataContent())
byte[] data = ConvertBitmapToByteArray();
using (var stream = new InMemoryRandomAccessStream())
// encoder *outputs* to stream
var encoder = await BitmapEncoder.CreateAsync(BitmapEncoder.BmpEncoderId, stream);
// encoder's input is the bitmap's pixel data
encoder.SetPixelData(BitmapPixelFormat.Bgra8, BitmapAlphaMode.Straight,
(uint)bitmap.PixelWidth, (uint)bitmap.PixelHeight, 96, 96, data);
await encoder.FlushAsync();
content.Add(new StreamContent(stream.AsStream()), "userfile", fileNewImage);
using (
var message =
await client.PostAsync("http://xplace.com/uploadtest.php", content))
var input = await message.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();
return input;
catch (Exception ex)
return null;
Now I have a different problem that after I uploaded the Image to Azure, I cannot execute the PHP code this one:
$uploaddir = getcwd();
$uploadfile = $uploaddir . "/" . basename($_FILES['userfile']['name']);
if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile)) {
chmod($uploadfile, 0755);
$Test = new Display($_FILES['userfile']['name']);
echo '{"result": "' . $Test->getNumber($_REQUEST['color'], false) . '"}';
//unlink($uploadfile);
} else {
echo '{"result": "-1"}';
I'd like to know what could be my bug because I don't understand why I can access from the URL, too to bit I cannot use it, maybe it's how I assigned the permissions but with or without the chmod, it
doesn't change at all. I have even tried other hostings and the problem is the same when I enter to the File Manager, there are only my PHP files and it doesn't allow me to manage the image.
Thanks for your worthy knowledge and experience.

Satellite Pro A300-2CW - Need Recovery disks with Windows XP
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 2CW. I bought it with Software Windows XP (included in a CD), which worked perfectly for years. I have reinstalled it several times during this years, but now the CD has deteriorated and it doesn't work anymore.
Originally the machine had WIndows Vista installed with DVD recovery creation option and a HDD recovery option, but I think this is not possible for Windows XP.
Do I have any options?Where could I buy the original Windows XP CD?
Thank youHi
You can try to order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Other way you can install own WXP version. All WXP drivers, tools ad utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp -
Windows 8 reset with custom recovery image
Dear all,
I searched for two days now without being able to find any Information:
Is it possible to perform a reset with a custom recovery image on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 ?
I tried multiple scenarios but I always receive the error message, that some files are missing and that I need to insert an installation media.
If I use e.g. Windows 8.1 Enterprise install.wim file all is working fine. But I would like to provide my users the options to make an OS refresh as well as OS reset with some preinstalled applications.
If it's not possible to use one Image for both, any way to get two Images working, one for refresh and one for reset?
The Internet is full of guides how to create custom recovery Images, but I can't find anything about reset and custom Images. Thanks a lot for your help in advance.
Best regards
TobiasHi,
I think we can create a recovery disc for refresh or reset via system image backup.

Creating Windows 8.1 master image with MDT 2013,cannot capture .WIM
I am having an issue with creating a master image with Windows 8.1 and MDT 2013.
I have followed extensive tutorials on how to create a master image using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. my goal is to have a fully configured windows 8.1 image which I can deploy through Windows Deployment Services. I have been relatively successful thus far,
except for one issue I have run into, which is successfully capturing this image as a .WIM.
I have successfully created a task sequence and the task sequence is able to run all the way through until the final step. Essentially the task sequence is supposed to install Windows and Office, then suspend the task sequence to allow me to make customisations
to the start screen and desktop background, and I simply click resume task sequence, and the task sequence should sysprep reboot and capture the machine image as a .WIM file.
the task sequence is able to sysprep the machine, but upon rebooting it boots into out of box experience, and does not create a wim file. I receive an error saying: "cannot find script file C:\ltibootstrap.Vbs" after the machine completes OOBE
I am using Windows Server 2012 r2, creating my Master machine image using hyper-v, and my master image is running Windows 8.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm not sure about the sequence of steps here. Try taking your captured.wim file and deploying it using MDT again, or at least to another machine. MDT sometimes leaves extra files around on the captured machine, so simply rebooting it may not get a accurate
test results.
IF you are getting the ltibootstrap.vbs it is most likely because there is a stray unattend.xml file somewhere in your image that is looking for this file. Crack open your Wim file and search for any unattend.xml files.

Our Iconia w5 can upgrade to Windows 8.1 and then to 8.1 Update. Windows 8.1 Update have new feature call WIMBoot that you can boot directly from install.wim file in recovery partition. (see WIMBoot Overview)
What you will get with this tutorial.More free space up to 25 GB (with clean windows 8.1 update install and no another apps)Recovery patition that you can reset your w5 to new fresh clean windows (clean install) (You don't need anything just tab and tab and wait with a cup of coffee)
Need to know.This tutorial is for Acer Iconia w510 but it can be apply to another series of iconia tab please try.(I think you can install and can boot but you need to install some driver manually.)This need to wipe all your partition layout, Plead back up your file to safe placeNeed to upgrade bios of your tablet to new release version (Download from acer website or here for w510You don't need windows key 'cause this windows will automatic activated because your license embed in you biosPrepareYou need a 4GB or bigger thumbdrive (Wee will format it please use a blank thumbdrive)Recovery Image for windows 8.1 update Down load here (This recovery image I created from original recovery dvd of mine)Tools to creat bootable thumb drive. Rufus (included in package or down load here)
Continue next reply...At first post you need 7zip to extract file. (File password is "aphorist" if present!) Solution.Extract file. You will see 2 file in there. The "iso" file and "rufus"
".iso" file is not bootable please don't burn it. you need to use rufus to extract content of iso to thumbdrive and make it bootable with uefi.Rufus. Open rufus Select your thumdrive (Device) set partition scheme and target system type to GPT partition ...
Select ISO image from extract folder
Then Click Start. Wait for Process Finished

Prepare your tablet with usb boot need to config uefi bios.
Shutdown you tablet. When your table shutdown completly. Hold down volum down button ----> then Hold down power button ---> when acer screen appear release all button.

(This is windows PE : I add touch drive and docking driver to PE so you can use your dock to type command. If you don't have docking you need usb hub and usb keyboard. I suggest you use micro usb hub like this)
In the command box. Type.
> d:
> install
The script will wipe your drive and create it in wimboot partition layout then apply image for you. This time you need a cup of coffee.
(This script I edit from microsoft original script to suit our iconia w5)When completed your tablet will reboot automatically and COMPLETED!!!!Do thing what you need with your tablet. -

DaRT with Windows 8.1 not working on some machines
Problem: x64 bit DaRT8/801/8.1 not recognizing the OS and utlities are greyed out/unavailable on some machines.
System: Windows 8.1 x64
Steps taken:
Tried different DaRT toolset versions, set BIOS SATA operation to different modes, tried both UEFI and Legacy mode secure boot mode off/on, created the DaRT image with Windows 8 installation media and Windows 8.1, tested the DaRT boot iso on Virtual Machines
and it worked, all the utilities available.
Eventually gave up and booted into MiniXP from Hirens boot CD and reset the local account password with NTpass tool.
Why would DaRT work on some machines and not on others?How was the SATA configured originally? If it was configured for RAID/AHCI and the DaRT disk does not have the RAID/AHCI driver the operating system may not be detectable, even if the mode is changed in the firmware.

How to reinstall Windows 8 on Yoga 13 with damaged Recovery Image?
I changed the partitions on my Yoga 13. Now it is not possible to refresh, reinstall or perform an advance start-up, as it looks like there is no recovery image anymore. The systems is currently very messy and needs a reinstall.
Can someone tell me how to reinstall Windows 8 on the Yoga 13 when the recovery image is lost or damaged?hi Chevex,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
In the event that the Recovery partition is not working the only option is to use the Recovery CD that you can create when you first got the computer.
but if you were not able to create a Recovery CD and the Onekey Recovery is not working.
You can get the Recovery CD from the Software Department (Fees may apply to the discs)
you can contact the Hardware Team again and ask to be transferred to Software team for purchasing RCD

Hi,
Unfortunately you can create only 1 set of recovery media.
Copying and burning the recovery USB to DVD and then using DVD to do system recovery will not work.
What you can do is back up all your data to an external drive. Do a Factory Reset with the Recovery USB to get back all the partitions including the recovery partition into the HDD.

T430s Recovery with Factory Recovery Disks
Hello,
I have a T430s. My original hard drive is dying so I got a new one. Before swapping the hard drives, I created the factory recovery disks (1 "boot media" + 3 "data media"). After installing the new hard drive, I boot with the first DVD (the "boot media") and it only goes to the system image option. It tells me to insert the last DVD of the system image, but obviously I have the factory recovery disks, not a system image disk. So it doesn't recognize any of the three data DVDs as the "last DVD". There is no factory recovery option, it only goes to the system image option. How can I restore to factory settings with my DVDs on my new hard drive? Do I have to use a CD/DVD to boot into R&R somehow, and if so, how?
Thanks!There is no "full recovery " option. Do you mean to say factory image recovery instead?
When you run a recovery, make sure that you connect the usb recovery media to a usb 2.0 port if one is available.
Please identify your notebook with its complete product number or name.
1. The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.

Imaging factory recovery usb drive
Hi,
I'm about to create a factory recovery disk on a 16GB thumb drive for my newly brought Thinkpad X1 Carbon, because I plan to dual boot Window 7 Pro and Linux Mint. But I don't want my thumb drive become useless except for the rare occasion of factory recovery. I wonder if it is possible to create an image of the recovery disk to be stored somewhere in an external hard drive, thus freeing the thumb drive, and to burn the image back to the thumb drive when factory recovery becomes necessary.
Thanks,
DavidI know this is an old thread, but I couldn't find any info on this as I was having problems. I had created a restore USB disk from my Yoga 11s on a couple different USB sticks; 1 a 16GB stick and the other a 32GB stick. I could create the restores via Windows 8.1 successfully every time. When I plugged it into my PC to back up the files I would get an error about the drive having issues. I couldn't copy any of the files/folders except the txt file.
I was finally successful, though. I had been using the USB 3 ports on both systems. Using the USB 2 ports instead allowed me to properly create the restore USB and copy the files to my workstation as a backup. Not sure yet if it actually works and boots, but I think USB 3 ports are not compatible with the boot partition creation. Hopefully this helps others.
