Factory Reset doesn't work on Spinning Gears lumia 928

Hello,
Last night i was struck with the Spinning Gears on my Nokia Lumia 928.  I researched it a bit to see what i could do to fix it, sadly it didn't help much. most people said to Factory Reset the phone (Up volume, down volume, power, down volume.)  But it does absolutely nothing at all. I get no ! when i reset the phone. All it does is show the word Nokia then spinning gears. People also said just reset it a few times and it will work, from wen i started counting i reset it over 30 times and let the gears spin for 8 hours. The phone doesn't charge ether but it will stay on if it is plugged in. Im out of ideas on how to fix this phone, and i rather not wait a few days for them to send me a new one IF they even do send me one.
If anyone has any ideas for me peoples let me know. Even if the idea is, you cant do anything bring it to the store thats fine i just wanna know if theres anything i can do.

I am stuck here.  I have had the Lumia 928 for about 2.5-3 months now.  I have decided to go back to Android, but want to give the phone to my son.  I went to do a Factory Reset and have been stuck on Gears for 2 days.  I have let the battery drain, removed the SIM, and did the following from the Nokia Support Site 5-6 times.  No luck, can you help?
Step 1
Press and hold power and volume down key.
Phone vibrates (release the keys)
Right after this press and hold the volume down key down
Exclamation mark is shown on the screen (release the volume down key)
Step 2Then input the keys in the following order:
Volume up
Volume down
Power
Volume down
Step 3
The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes.

  • HT1560 What if Factory Restore doesn't work?

What if Factory Restore doesn't work?

As a last ditch effort, try the following:
Power off the AirPort for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for another 10-12 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
At this point, the amber should be blinking slowly, and you should be able to reconfigure it again using AirPort Utility on your Mac
If a factory default reset does not work, the AirPort is defective and will need to be replaced.

  • Aiport Express dead? Yellow light one, reset doesn't work...

    Hello
My Airport Express stopped working a few days ago. I just shows a constant yellow light, resets (incl factory reset) don't work and I can't see it with Airport Utility.
    Any ideas?
    (latest firmware update)

    Welcome to the discussions!
If you have tried the factory default reset several times and continue to see a constant amber light, the Express has likely experienced an internal electrical component failure and will need to be replaced.

  • My brand new iPad mini won't rotate I have done factory reset still not working. If I lock and unlock on landscape or portrait it remains in that mode. Any ideas pretty sure I've tried everything suggested.

My brand new iPad mini won't rotate done factory reset still not working. If I lock and unlock on landscape or portrait it remains in that mode. Any ideas pretty sure I've tried everything suggested such as off/on, reset, reboot, double checked lock off. It did work and I changed wallpaper and stopped motion, not sure if this related

Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. Your iPad will reboot on its own. You will have to enter all of the device settings again, but no data will be lost.
I eould not spend a whole lot more time trying to fix this, if the device is really brand new. I would take it back to where you bought it, bring the box, the charger, the cable and your receipt and if they can't get it fixed, return it and get another one.

  • IMac won't/doesn't start up - spinning gear and fans forever

    Hi,
My iMac won't get past the Apple Logo/Spinning gear progress indicator. It started two days ago after I swapped out some USB devices (pulled my headset and inserted Photo card reader with an SD card in it) It didn't mount the SD card so I restarted. Wish I hadn't. It now will not complete start-up. I also get the jet-engine fans after about 30 sec (but I read this is normal). The only other thing I can think of that I have done recently that might be a problem was download some shareware games from www.macgamer.com which didn't install correctly and wouldn't run.
I have done everything I know or have found on this website. I have found a few posts where the problem looks just like mine, but none have posted solutions. (and a bunch with a similar sounding problem but always with some different detail).
Here is what I have done so far. After each of these a fresh reboot just hangs at the spinny thing:
    - rebooted from the install DVD (it will do this), repaired both hard drive and permission several times each. Some pemissions were repaired but no repairs were made to the hard drive, it checked out OK each time.
    - Ran the "Quick" hard ware test. Everything passed
    - Reset the PRAM (or at least held down the PR+shiftCMd combo, not sure if that had any effect).
    - tried to start in safe mode, but can't because after the second chime, it just hangs again at the Apple logo.
    - Started in single user mode, ran fcsk twice (NO PROBLEMS FOUND) then did the steps from single user mode to delete cache and prefernce files found in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1484205)
None of this has helped. Right now I see only two possibilities, Archive and Install or take it up the street to the Apple Store (really close, but its the first one in Portugal and the store has only been there for about 3 months, so I have to wonder if they know what they are doing).
Does anyone have any suggestions before I take either of these drastic steps? Which one should I do first?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1 Gb

thanks for the suggestions but I have tried both those. I can´t boot up in safe mode, because it simply doesn´t get that far, always getting stuck at the apple log/spinning thing, and the disc utilities (which I have now run several times) don't find any problems.~
I have now followed all the steps in the apple support "my computer won't start" guide (106464 or whatever it is called), which I was at first hesitant to do becasue that doc is for up to OS 10.3.9 and I am running Tiger 10.4.5 (or was running it before this happened, that is). Still nothing has helped.
However, I did make a discovery. After booting into single user mode and deleting/moving some of the preference files, as instructed in the above help doc, I tried to "boot the system in single user mode" (it tells you the command for that when you first enter single user mode). And after showing some start up codes, which go by really fast, but don't seem to show any errors, the screen displays three line of text, which I wrote down but don't have on me at the interennt cafe I am now forced to visit to get on this forum. The first two are the same and I can't remember exactly what they say, but the third says:
root user not found. sleeping and trying again.
It then sits for about 3 seconds and then displays the three lines again, over and over. I have let it go for upt ot 10 minutes. So does anyone know what that means, if that is the true problem or how to fix it without reinstalling? Let me repeat, numerous "repair disc" using disc utility and "fsck" in single user mode have not returned one single problem or error code since this problem started. Unfortunately I don't have disc warrior, but it has been ordered and is one its way.

  • Microphone on iPad 3 stopped working.reset doesn't work

    HEllo,
Can anyone help me in regards to the microphone on ipad3? It was working fine yesterday but today it doesn't work. I tried resetting by holding the home and power button, restored original settings and nothing. Anyone had this problem? What do I do?

I saw one post where a user said dust got inside the small microphone hole. Using a vacuum cleaner removed the dust and restored the audio.

  • Camera's automatic focus function stopped working. Factory reset did not work. (Yes the three dots were pressed). What should I do?

I enjoyed taking pictures with one touch of the screen but now the camera does not focus no matter what I do. I did try to take it without the camera sub-menus by pushing the button with three dots and without. The focus simply does not work!
    What should I do?
I contacted LG support and they told me the whole thing might take 1-2weeks. That seems too long for me to live without a phone. Any suggestions?
    Thanks for reading my question,
    Josh

Let's get this resolved kimjoshy! If you completed a factory reset and still unsuccessful please respond to my direct message so I may review options. Thank you.

  • Iphone 5 won't turn on. Reset doesn't work either.

    Hi All,
My Dad's having an issue with his iPhone 5. The cellphone won't turn on. This happened after he turned it off one day.
He's tried pressing home button and power button, but that doesn't work either. He believes that the phone has too little free memory for iOS to boot.
So we are just wondering if there is a way he can backup the photos/contacts in that case?
I am just wondering if you have any insights?
    Thanks,
    Di

Having the phone refuse to turn on is a symptom of a completely drained battery. Connect the phone to the charger that came with it and connect that to a good wall outlet. Wait at least 30 minutes then reset the phone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the phone restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is at 100%. If the phone does not restart Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Wrt120n resetting doesn't work

Putting this router back in service, I reset (10 and 30 sec hold) until lights flashed. Unplugged it. Came back and connected to computer. Used default u/n = blank and p/w = admin -- doesn't work, can't get to control screen. Tried various combinations and still won't work. How do I get router to respond? Tech support won't help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Login through FF wouldn't work do matter how my settings are. MSIE login worked first time. "To reset this, unplug the modem and plug it back in again" Did this many times. "What I usually have to do is connect a computer straight to the modem to get the modem to register its MAC address. " Did that too. "Then when that is connected to the internet, I connect up the WRT120N to the modem and clone the MAC address to match the computer MAC address." Not sure how this is done. But I never had to do this when shifting routers around lots of different installations -- more than 10, anyway. I just plugged the router into the modem, rebooted the modem, and everything worked. But that was using Netgear and other brands. This is the first Linksys I've tried, and I'm not real happy about it! Especially with the **bleep** the setup program put on my computer -- two services and four installed programs, and a desktop item that couldn't be removed. Took about 15 minutes to figure out where it put everything and another 10 to uninstall it all.

  • Factory reset - will sim work

This may be a silly question but if I do a factory reset of my iphone 3g will my O2 sim work automatically or will I need to important any settings?
    Mark

If its an original O2 iPhone it'll be fine - it may take a short while for the data settings to arrive from O2 but otherwise it'll be fine.

  • IPod touch won't turn on, charge, iTunes doesn't recognize it, and the hard reset doesn't work

My iPod touch 5th gen died so I put in it the charger. Now even the dead battery screen doesn't come on. iTunes will not recognize it, The hard reset won't work, recovery mode doesn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone factory unlock doesn't work

I've an iPhone 4 (sunrise). I contacted sunrise to unlock my iPhone, they confirmed via Email that the iPhone is unlocked. But it doesn't work, I restored the iPhone and put the sim on, but it doesn't work...

I had a similar problem (official unlock did not work) and it was recently resolved with Apple's help.  AT&T approved my unlock nearly 5 months ago and since then we tried repeatedly - using every method suggested here and elsewhere- but we never got the Congrats message and the phone did not work with other SIMs (such as TMobile and SIMS from other countries).
AT&T wouldn't talk to us because we were no longer customers.  After about 40 restores and 5 months of this headache we gave up. Then one late evening recently I went to the genius bar.  I took all the paperwork, which inlcuded a printout from AT&T's website which showed that the request for unlock had been approved 5 months ago and that we had been restoring in futility since then. After much, much imploration and with Apple's help, my problem was finally solved.
Moral of the story: There are legit instances when an official unlock from AT&T does not go through. The conversation that needs to happen between the phone company and Apple once the unlock is approved sometimes never happens and your phone remains locked despite the approval.  If you find yourself in this situation, do one or both of two things:
put in another request with your phone company (if you can) and try Restoring again
open an AppleCare case. It is worth it at $20.  I was lucky and I didn't have to pay (but I had waited 5 months; your patience may not be that extensive). The service is effective and efficient.

  • Safari Reset Doesn't Work

I'm having a bit of trouble. Safari is no longer responding to the reset function. I click it, it opens the dialog asking me if I really want to do this, I click yes, and then nothing happens. I think this started after I downloaded the latest security update. Has anybody else had this problem? Is there a solution? Thank you.

Hey just found that plist it was in my home file. So I deleted it and now Safari has done a complete reset. Let's hope this works, eh? How much plist info does it need to build up before the cookie list becomes indestructable? Why does OS X claim to so something but doesn't?
    Many thanks guys respect..

  • WRT54G - Hard Reset Doesn't Work

I have tried multiple times to hard reset my Wireless G WRT54G ver.2 router, but have had no success. I held the reset for 15 sec, 30 sec, 2 min, etc and also tried holding it and then unplugging it and then plugging it back in. I've tried everything that I have seen suggested. My problem is that I don't know what the password is to access my router's web utility thing and I need to change the IP address. With every reset attempt, I hope that the default admin password will work, but sadly no. Any ideas of what to do? Thanks!

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.
