Factory reset (F11) causes reboot loop

3000 J115 Desktop (7389-24G)
I restored to original using F11 and following the instructions.  No errors were noted and when it requested a reboot to continue, the computer reboots and for a moment shows a white screen before rebooting again and again...  I re-did the restore to factory (F11) again and had the same results.  Do I need to load drivers or something?  I don't have any original disks or restore disks.

hi Slim_Whitman,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you get as far as Step 20 of this guide, but just shows a white screen then there's probably an internal problem on the unit (could be bad sectors on the HDD). To verify this, you will need to run a diagnostic on the drive,
To create a diagnostic disc:
1. Download the UBCD ISO
2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD
5. On the diagnostic options, navigate to HDD > Diagnosis > & choose the diagnostic software depending on the brand of your HDD (i.e. choose Seagate for DOS if you have a Seagate HDD, Data Lifeguard if you have a Western Digital HDD, etc..)
To burn the diagnostic softwre on a flashdrive, follow this guide
If you get any errors, you will need to contact lenovo for service.
If you don't get any errors, the recovery partition might be faulty and you need to contact lenovo and obtain a copy of the recovery disc.
Hope this helps.

  • Factory reset boot loop

Hi,  I am not very technical, but here is my issue.  I have been getting the "blue screen of death" for about six months now, but the notebook has been ticking along.  I have lost the DVD E: drive a few times, but managed to reinstate that until the last time.  Currently system is not recognising E: drive. I thought I would do a factory reset so I backed up everything and did the reset.  Since then I am caught in a factory reset boot loop and I cannot get my pc to get past it.  It keeps telling me the reset was incomplete and to retry, but I get not further.  I have a Windows Repair Disc and the HP Recovery Discs, but because I cannot use the E: drive they are useless.  I have an external USB DVD drive as well, but it is not recognised either. I have Linux Ubuntu on a USB stick and have been able to use that okay.  It tells me there are 40 bad sectors on the 1TB hard drive. I think that the recovery partition D: has been corrupted and the boot sector may be damaged.  Is there anything I can do?  I am tempted to just go with Linux at this point. I Have a HP Pavilion DV 7 Entertainment notebook model 584037-001 with Windows 7 Home Premium.  It is about four years old. I have access to other MAC PCs, but no other Windows PCs. Any ideas?

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and issues with a factory reset boot looping. Try running sfc /scannow would scan your system for errors at the command prompt. You can get to the command prompt by clicking F11 at startup. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. You could check this Microsoft document on system recovery options. Hope this is a help. Thanks.

  • Droid Razr Maxx HD Boot Loop/Factory Reset

My Droid Razr Maxx HD has been stuck in boot loop on the eye animation. I did a factory reset from the boot menu, but it is still stuck in boot loop. HELP PLEASE!

I'm very sorry to see that your device is causing you grief! I can see that you've already attempted a factory reset. I'd like to know more about that step. When attempting to process that reset, did it appear to complete it only to return to this 'boot loop'? Can you describe what you did, and what you saw? Also, has the device been damaged or has it's operating system been fundamentally altered (rooted)?

  • I have ipad mini 2 updated to ios 7.1.2.  Now ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo. I factory reset and redownloaded software in recovery mode.  Still happening.  What else can I do?

I have ipad mini 32gb.  I updated to IOS 7.1.2. Since then ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo.  It happens so many times I cannot use the ipad.   I have tried factory reset and reinstalled software in recovery mode. Ipad is only 1 1/2 years old and in great condition.  Is there anything else I can do besides soend $200 to fix it?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me going by the CRC error you mentioned. I'd make a Genius Bar reservation (you'll need your Apple ID) if you have a nearby Apple Store and get it evaluated. The evaluation is free but repair/replacement could incur other charges.

  • Factory reset problems f11 function not working

I have a pavilion zv5000 running windows xp and im trying to do a factory reset and the f11 function while booting will not work. can anyone help.

Hi deadweight1102, welcome to the HP Forums.  I understand you are unable to perform a factory reset. If the computer shows you the F11 option to do a factory reset, and it is not responding, then it is possible the recovery partition is damaged or non-existent.
Do you have recovery media, or Windows XP disks?

  • Factory reset loop

A couple of hours after trying to factory reset my laptop I've noticed that it's stuck in a loop of sorts. First the HP screen will pop up and the loafing icon, then a few windows will briefly flash but the whole screen goes to black and the process begins again. I'm at a loss with what to do.  Am I supposed to put windows 8 back on it vis a USB drive? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.  When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices. I found a document for you called Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8). Please follow these troubleshooting steps. What led you to do a factory reset?Did you back up any of your information?Do you have Windows 8 on a USB Drive?Did/Do you receive any error messages?Have you tried to boot from Windows 8 on a CD or USB Drive? Please re-post and let me know how this went. Thanks!

  • Factory reset caused iPod to freeze

So I recently had an app start crashing on me, and I was told by the support people for said app that it was something with my iPod and to do a factory reset asap. So I started one tonight.
It sat there for a good ten minutes and just had the circle in the middle of the screen spinning, then it came up on the computer that an error occurred. When iTunes loaded again it didn't show my iPod like it has before ('cause that's happened once before). So I looked over, and it still had the circle spinning on the screen. I plugged it in to see if that would do anything, and my computer didn't recognize the iPod as an iPod. So I unplugged it. It's still sitting there with the spinning circle. I've tried powering down my iPod, and that doesn't work either.
Is there anything other than waiting for it to die that I can do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Have a Droid Razr M that is stuck in the reboot screen. I tried a hard reboot and a factory reset, and it still gets stuck in the reboot screen. How long should I wait for the reboot to occur until it starts back up? I tried the steps for a factory reset given on this site, but it still does not want to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

        Hello otter314!
Let's take a look into this to see if we can figure out what happened. When did this begin? What's the software version of the device? Do you remember what was happening with the device right before this started? Please supply me with some additional information, I'm happy to help with a resolution!

  • P780 boot loop after factory reset

From couple of days ago I started to get popups saying "android ____ .com" or something and every time I clicked OK the message would pop up again not letting me press anything but the OK button continuesly.. so I powered off the phone I powered back up again and my phone wouldn't boot anymore. The screen said "Encryption Unsuccessful" and then there was a "Factory Reset" button right below - nothing happens when I clicked it So I went on and performed a factory reset by entering recovery mode (power button + volume up + volume down) and after it didn't work I went back to recovery mode and tried "clear cache" which didn't work so I then went to factory mode (power button + volume up) and cleared data by selecting MMC or something (it was in chinese) What happens next is, the phone enters a boot loop. It boots, shows the Lenovo logo, then turns off, then boots again, Lenovo logo, turns off, and so on. I wasn't even able to turn off the phone so I clicked that red reset button at the back I didn't try removing the battery or SD card How do I go from here?

I would like to add, whilst I was using the pin clips on the pins near the bios chip, I let the system run until it would beep.  During this time, the CPU fan ran really really hard.  Have I damaged the CPU somehow?

  • Exchange causing factory reset??

Hi everyone. I have had the Samsung Fascinate for a little over a week now, and I am having a HUGE problem. I have already taken it back and am now on the second phone because every time I setup my corporate account with Exchange, shortly after that the phone performs a factory reset ON ITS OWN. It has done this 5 times. The last time, I had just taken the phone back to the Verizon store, got a brand new replacement phone. Within 1 hour of setting up my Exchange email account, the phone reset itself again. I finally threw my hand up and I have refused to set up the work email on my phone. I want to know if anyone else has experienced the same problem??? The email works great, but I think its something to do with the IT Policy password. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You want to use ssl, so keep that box check.  I left everything stock per say when I did my setup, no problems.
I also use the full name of the server    mail.serverblah.com   and full active directory account name   domain\userid for userid.  I also filled in the domain field also.
We pay verisign for a valid ssl cert.  I was wondering if android has a issue with invalid certs. I would doubt it, but you never know.  If you can get to it thru IE/firefox fine with no errors, then the cert is ok.   https only.
Just found out we are not currently using SSL. That's why I was told to uncheck it. It is worth as shot to check the box anyway? I just don't want to have to reload all of my custom settings again. For the 6th time.

  • Reboot Loop Question--1Gen

It appears that my kids 1Gen Touch has encountered a reboot loop. The on/off/Power button appears to no longer work. When pushed, nothing happens. The home button functions fine.
When pushed with the home button, the device enters a rapidly cycling reboot loop. Apple logo for 5-10 seconds...off for 5-10 seconds...apple logo...repeat. This can be interrupted by plugging the device into a power source (wall/computer). When the device boots up (after being connected) it appears to work fine. Once it gets plugged in, it boots up normally.
As soon as it finished booting up (after being interrupted) the red "swipe to turn off" bar comes across the top. Hitting "cancel" will cause it to go away. After booting up, if left alone, it will sleep without entering the reboot loop.
While it is functioning, the home button with wake it up. If the on/off/power button is pressed to wake it up, it will enter the reboot loop.
Is this a hardware or software problem. I will next try to restore it, but wanted to see if there was some guidance before I did that.
Itunes does recognize it. I have backed it up and it seems to run ok after breaking the loop and not hitting the on/off/power button. If left alone, it will spontaneously enter the reboot loop (5 minutes or so).
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi to all,
I have a big problem with my Xperia Z3, I updated it lollipop 5.0.2 couple of days ago.  It worked fine with no issue until yesterday (Saturday 04.04.2015) when I left it in my car for the gym session as always. When I came back to check missed calls, I couldn’t access the phone at all, only a black screen and I could see a clock and partial notification bar. I switched it off and the on again.
Now its stuck at” Android upgrading, starting apps” all the time and it keeps restarting. I have tried to soft –reset nothing is happening. I have reached at a level to lose everything in the phone especially my contacts by deciding to do a hard/factory reset but still I cant do that using volume up or down. I am totally stuck, I also tried to boot into recovery mode but with no luck.
Please guys any idea how to get rid of this. I cant get into recovery mode coz nothing is happening when I press key combination.
I will appreciate your help. At this point I regret why I updated my phone to lollipop.
    Please help help………

  • IPod Touch 4 has gone wonky even after factory reset!!!

I have an iPod Touch 4. It has the latest o/s (6.1.3, there isn't anything newer available). I am running the latest iTunes. I have a pc with windows 7. Everything was working great up until about a week ago. All of a sudden my ipod crashed and got stuck in a boot loop... I couldn't get it to respond any other way so I did a factory reset and restore. I had massive issues after that -- most of my apps wouldn't sync/install. Very little would work. Basically it's useless. So I did another factory reset and restore. Same problem. Must have done this a dozen times. It takes a long time to do a restore btw and it fails on top of that...
So today I finally did a factory reset and set it up like new instead of doing a restore. I installed only a few apps, not all. It appeared to work ok. I just did a sync and started to install more apps and viola -- funky iPod again... It appears to work, apps open, you can even play or use them. Then randomly it turns screen off, closing the app and appears to reboot (but it doesn't reboot every time)... Things do work on it, I get push notices ok... I had turned off the screen lock thing so I didn't think it should be turning the screen off anymore...
I might add, even during a sync it appears to be doing something -- it beeps, screen goes black, apple logo come up, it comes up again but its super fast so I am not sure if it's rebooting itself or what? The sync just sits there waiting... So it never appears to be dropping the connection...
    This is driving me batty!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried doing searches online and it appears I am not alone... Is this some kind of problem with the latest version of itunes?
Is it my ipod going belly up?
I bought this used off amazon about 1 1/2 months ago... Should I contact the seller for replacement?
    Suggestions?
If I took it to the apple store I am sure it's not under warranty so I don't think they would help me...
Everyone please chime in cause I would LOVE to use my ipod again! It's not much use to me in this state!!!!!!!

Well my friend, I do appreciate the help!
it looks like it may have been a bad app or multiple bad apps... or maybe even corrupted stored data...
it appears to be working ok now -- i've added about 1/2 my apps back... a lilttle at a time... doing backups before adding anything new each time... and it's ok... there were only a few games I cared about keeping the data for and I was able to pull that data out of some old backups using iBackup Robot... careful to pull ONLY the data for a handful of apps, NOT all the data for everything... I even decided to give up on 2 games and start over again cause I suspect they may have been part of the problem as they have new updates all the time and the updates are usually flawed.. so i just started over on those 2...
so the lesson Illaass to learn here is, before you jump in going on about how it's a bad logic board which it appears NOT to be -- let the discussion I was hoping to have with others and not you (no offense, others who actually have had this problem not someone parroting back what he's read) take place...
and if you see someone posting a similiar problem to mine -- suggest what I did first! cause most of us (including myself) don't have $199 sitting around doing nothing to buy a new ipod with... lol
but i do thank you for trying -- your heart was in the right place!

  • HP system restore and factory reset not completing

    Hello.
1:  Person tried a system restore to fix a user profile problem but once booted the OS changed the  user profile to "temporary" every time, checked the original profile but only the avatar was left , all other personal info was gone.
Working through "profiles list" in the registry and setting back to the original user profile from temp profile didn't work and went back to temporary.
Complete erasure  reset of all user profiles includig in the registry didn't work either. Went back to temporary profile.
It was no use to save any files while the OS was in this stat as every reboot would remove the files including in the temp profile.
2:  Tried all basic boot/DOS HP recovery for installed windows OS with no success, all system restore backups back several months failed.
3:  Tried a factory reset twice and while it did restore for the most part with the automated drivers installed the HP recovery  returns an error that factory reset did not or could not complete itself.  This was attempted twice.
While one could shut down the HP error screen in windows 8 and continue the failed reset booting error was still logged and it defaults to the HP receovery which ends up looping over and over again.
while still in windows once the HP error is closed one can goto the usual user name and password so  that was done  twice and with the simplest password.
Problems compounded when the OS rebooted and asked for user name and password, which returned "not valid" over and over again.   One time i entered the user "administrator" with the password "admin" and it worked, it started loading but then returned invalid username or password.  Point being that  that was not the actual user name and passowrd that was chosen and confirmed.
This part of the problem is the same as the first problem
3A:  I wiped the main and system partitions and reformatted them  and ran then HP factory reset once again, it restored faster than the first attempt, however it dropped to the same username/password error and i can't even get into safe mode any longer.
Again the system boot sequence registeres the restore as incomplete but i can boot select OS which is how i am able to get into windows to test the User/pass.
4:  I beleive that there is hardware malfunction with the hard drive controler in this system as i noticed that UEFI is intermitant no matter what settings you set in the BIOS/CMOS.  When UEFI boot CD/DVD does appear in the boot selection it can't detect the cd/dvd drive or a USB drive "invalid device".
Many of the boot options even when set in the bios will not always appear in the boot selector on every power up that includes legacy.
While i can boot from CD/DVD with the legacy boot selection. I can't install windows 8 or 7 becasue the HD is A GPT and without UEFI i don't get advanced options in the windows OS install partition setup.  Windows 7 or 8 won't install becasue the HD partition is a GPT format even after i wipe those paritions and make new ones with basic NTFS.
I could LLF the HD and hope that i could install windows 7 but the UEFI being intermitent would probably return the same resutls as the HP factory reset.   Similar problem with older computers when enabling AHCI in windows.
If i LLF the HD i loose the HP recovery completely.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Hello.   The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC
I have since LLF'd the HD and installed windows 8.1.  It's still touchy but it's working for the time being.
A: The laptop's owner did a standard windows system restore
B: I did two windows system restores  as well as backups.
C:  Yes i usd the F11 at boot  recovery system to run windows system restores, cleanings, and finally the factory reset. Which is obvious as i stated above that if wiped both main windows partitions and it helped the factory restore speed so only restoring an image will replace the OS on the now empty partition.
D:  No i didn't keep the failed restore logs as they were randomly scrambled with all the recover cycle loops (both times).
Also i should mention that the factory restore once it failed the completion i got "insufficient sapce"  error as well  which i am guessing that it's trying to write the log file.
If memory serves there was only 40mb left on the recovery partition.  Yes MB not GB.
