  • I've factory reset my iPhone twice, about to be three times. has anyone else had issues that force them to factory reset their phones.

So I got my iPhone 6 on the day it came out and it has been the most frustrating experience I've ever had with apple.  I've had to factory reset my phone twice, probably about to be three times once i get home from work.  The first time was trying to transfer my stuff from my old iPhone and right after it finished my iPhone 6 turned itself off then turned on to the boot up screen (the one with the apple logo) and then shut off then did the same thing.  this forced my to factory reset my new iphone literally the day i got it.  The next day i was trying to upload my music and basically the same thing happened again, forcing me to reset my phone for a second time.  Just now (its been two weeks that I've owned my new phone)i tried to get on twitter and the app crashed then my phone reset itself and when it loaded to the unlock screen, instead of my background it was just a black screen with the time and the unlock slide.  when i unlocked it, it went back to the normal background and the main screen.  Because whenever i would turn off (not power off, but put it to sleep) the phone and turn it back on it would do the same thing.  I decided to restart it (actually turn it completely off and then back on) and now it will show the boot up screen then turn off.  I understand that there is the solution of factory resetting my iPhone, but 3 times in 2 weeks is pretty unacceptable, seeing as i had a 4s for almost 3 years and never once had to factory reset it and its also incredibly annoying to have to redownload all of my stuff.  Has anyone else had this problem? is there anyway i can keep this from continuing to happen?  is it a software issue or is it the phone itself that is messing up?

WiseJD, thank you for your suggestions.  Well the first two restorations were the first and second day (9/19 and 9/20) that i had my 6 and both times i chose to restore is as new.  since then there haven't been any issues until now.  granted the first time my phone messed up was after i used the At&t transfer app which made me think it couldve been something that corrupted my device.  the second time though started with me attempting to download music from the itunes store app on the phone.  for whatever reason it would download but not but it wouldnt process and install the music.  Then i tried to download it from my computer and thats when the second screw up occurred. that time i dont think it was an issue of my phone being corrupted because it was already acting strangely before i ever plugged it into my computer.  This third time, i'm at work so i havent been able to do anything about it, i wasnt downloading anything and my phone was not hooked up to a computer, i simply tried to open twitter and then all this happened. and it has been a solid almost two weeks without incident which makes me think its my phone and not corrupt files.  also looking at forums, not just these but other online, i haven't really seen anyone with the same problem which adds to my thought that its a problem with my phone.
Just to be clear, the first time this happened, the iphone would display the boot up screen then shut off then turn on and display the boot up screen, then shut of and kept going on like that until i put my iphone into recovery mode and factory reset it.  the second time the iphone would display the boot up screen and then shut off, but wouldnt turn on unless i pressed the power button again.  this third time is the same story.  i dont know if this makes a difference or if its symptomatic of different problems but i figured it wouldnt hurt to explain in detail the issues that happened each separate time.
Also on a side note, i havent done anything like jailbreak it, mess with it download or any third party apps not on the app store.

  • I factory reset my iPhone 4 that I've had for 2 years and now I have to have  the volume on max to hear anything. Any help?

I had to factory reset my iPhone 4 because of memory constraints.

I wasn't "unlocking" my phone, I went into the settings and clicked the option to reset the iPhone to the way it was when it left the factory.

Only the former owner can remove the Find My Phone lock and erase the device. That can be done remotely. Without this the device is useless to you because it will be permanently locked.

  • Is it OK for someone to factory reset my iPhone w/o using iTunes and Passcode? Which is what my daughter just did a few days ago.

My daughter, who she does not know my passcode, factory reset my iPhone w/o using iTunes a few days ago and caused losing my pictures taken during our family trip. Should it be incapable of someone who does not know the passcode of my iPhone to factory reset my iPhone? Or is it a kind of error that Apple is not aware of?

It is not an error. It is the standard way of regaining access if you have forgotten the passcode.

  • Can i factory reset an iphone thru itunes or icloud without having my iphone present

can i factory reset an iphone thru itunes or icloud without having my iphone present

If you set up Find My iPhone and the phone appears in iCloud.com, you can erase it, which is what I presume you are wanting to do. If you didn't set up Find My iPhone or it doesn't appear there, then there's no way to erase the phone without having it in hand.
    Regards.

  • If i factory reset my iPhone 4 will it lose the sim unlock that the carrier applied?

Hi, I have upgraded to the iPhone 5 and am looking to give my current iPhone 4 to a family member, I originally got the phone through Orange but after signal difficulties had it opened to any network by Orange. I want to know if I do a factory reset will it lose this and will I have to have it done again?

If you are the original owner, and Orange is the original carrier, and you requested an official unlock then yes, whatever happens you device should remain unlocked, provided that the device was never "touched" by any other unlockers...

  • Factory reset of iPhone 4

I know this is a very overdone topic of discussion, and I know there are plenty of Q&As out there right now regarding this, however I just want to see if I can get a straight answer from someone who knows their stuff.
My iPhone 4 has just tonight decided to stick itself in recovery mode and not turn on. I finally tried a bunch of random things, and ended up settling on doing the required factory reset of my iPhone 4 so I could actually use it again.
I always have (I THOUGHT, at least) backed up my phone when syncing it to my computer. However, now it won't back up. Therefore I've lost my photos, videos, contacts, messages, apps, etc. I keep trying to back it up using iCloud, and my computer, and nothing seems to be working. I'm trying not to be like a sooky electronically over-attached female, but it's difficult when I've had this phone for so long and now seem to have lost EVERYTHING.
Can anyone help me with this, or am I basically SOL?

    Open iTunes Preferences:
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Click Devices (the iOS device doesn't need to be connected).
iTunes will show the phone number, IMEI, and serial number of the backed up iPhone when you position your mouse pointer over a backup (iTunes shows only the serial number for iPad and iPod touch).

  • Factory resetting an iPhone 4 and keeping everything on my iPhone 5s (Apple ID)

    Hello!
I have two iPhone's - a 4 and a 5s. They are both attached to my Apple ID, but I want to factory reset and delete everything off of the 4. However, I'm scared that I'll delete everything that is connected to both iPhones (pictures, etc.) if I go to Settings>iCloud>Delete Account on the 4.
Can someone help me delete and reset the iPhone 4 without deleting everything connected to my iPhone 5s? I hope this all makes sense.
    Thank you!!

    Hello, gibbler13.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you want to remove all of the data from your iPhone 4 but are concerned it will affect your iPhone 5s.  To erase all of your data off of your iPhone 4 only, follow the steps in the first article below that covers Erase All Content and Settings.  This will not alter any data on your iPhone 5s.  However, it is a good idea to create a backup of your data as a precaution.

Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes
