Factory Reset not an option anymore

Hi, I am posting in the hope that someone might know better what exactly is going on with my brand new R61. My problem is that Factory Reset is not an option anymore in Rescue and Recovery. Short history of events: Laptop came with Vista. Shrank its partition with Disk Management. Booted from XP64 setup disk, installed it to new partition created in the unallocated space. Discovered no drivers from Lenovo, wanted to do a factory reset. ThinkVantage button didn't take me anymore to the RnR environment, instead it showed me a "Startup List" of some sort. Used Lenovo Recovery Repair to fix MBR. Blue Button still doesn't work, but F11 does, it goes into RnR. However there is no Factory State Reset option under Restore system. I don't have Recovery disks, cause their creation failed. Any ideas?

Now I also know about pulling the message to the left to see the time stamp.  Good to know, although I preferred it being right where I could see it without having to do a swipe or keystroke.

  • I have 3X YOGA 10 freeze - factory reset not working

I bought 3 lenovo yoga B8000-F 10 January 2014 none of them work. it is frozen on the logo LENOVO. recovery factory reset not possible

Lenovo Phone Support are suggesting I take it back to the shop where I bought it (was on vacation interstate in Australia - if Lenovo want to send me the flight, I'll definitely take it back  )
This looks like a firmware bug and it seems to be endemic - interesting that it's just happened for me too, roughly 100 days since purchase...
Also found that the warranty was shown on the Lenovo system as being months before purchase - my receipt is 8/1/14, their record is 23/10/13
Can not get any message out of the tablet other than that it is in Meta Mode - it won't get to Factory reset.....

  • HP system restore and factory reset not completing

    Hello.
1:  Person tried a system restore to fix a user profile problem but once booted the OS changed the  user profile to "temporary" every time, checked the original profile but only the avatar was left , all other personal info was gone.
Working through "profiles list" in the registry and setting back to the original user profile from temp profile didn't work and went back to temporary.
Complete erasure  reset of all user profiles includig in the registry didn't work either. Went back to temporary profile.
It was no use to save any files while the OS was in this stat as every reboot would remove the files including in the temp profile.
2:  Tried all basic boot/DOS HP recovery for installed windows OS with no success, all system restore backups back several months failed.
3:  Tried a factory reset twice and while it did restore for the most part with the automated drivers installed the HP recovery  returns an error that factory reset did not or could not complete itself.  This was attempted twice.
While one could shut down the HP error screen in windows 8 and continue the failed reset booting error was still logged and it defaults to the HP receovery which ends up looping over and over again.
while still in windows once the HP error is closed one can goto the usual user name and password so  that was done  twice and with the simplest password.
Problems compounded when the OS rebooted and asked for user name and password, which returned "not valid" over and over again.   One time i entered the user "administrator" with the password "admin" and it worked, it started loading but then returned invalid username or password.  Point being that  that was not the actual user name and passowrd that was chosen and confirmed.
This part of the problem is the same as the first problem
3A:  I wiped the main and system partitions and reformatted them  and ran then HP factory reset once again, it restored faster than the first attempt, however it dropped to the same username/password error and i can't even get into safe mode any longer.
Again the system boot sequence registeres the restore as incomplete but i can boot select OS which is how i am able to get into windows to test the User/pass.
4:  I beleive that there is hardware malfunction with the hard drive controler in this system as i noticed that UEFI is intermitant no matter what settings you set in the BIOS/CMOS.  When UEFI boot CD/DVD does appear in the boot selection it can't detect the cd/dvd drive or a USB drive "invalid device".
Many of the boot options even when set in the bios will not always appear in the boot selector on every power up that includes legacy.
While i can boot from CD/DVD with the legacy boot selection. I can't install windows 8 or 7 becasue the HD is A GPT and without UEFI i don't get advanced options in the windows OS install partition setup.  Windows 7 or 8 won't install becasue the HD partition is a GPT format even after i wipe those paritions and make new ones with basic NTFS.
I could LLF the HD and hope that i could install windows 7 but the UEFI being intermitent would probably return the same resutls as the HP factory reset.   Similar problem with older computers when enabling AHCI in windows.
If i LLF the HD i loose the HP recovery completely.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Hello.   The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC
I have since LLF'd the HD and installed windows 8.1.  It's still touchy but it's working for the time being.
A: The laptop's owner did a standard windows system restore
B: I did two windows system restores  as well as backups.
C:  Yes i usd the F11 at boot  recovery system to run windows system restores, cleanings, and finally the factory reset. Which is obvious as i stated above that if wiped both main windows partitions and it helped the factory restore speed so only restoring an image will replace the OS on the now empty partition.
D:  No i didn't keep the failed restore logs as they were randomly scrambled with all the recover cycle loops (both times).
Also i should mention that the factory restore once it failed the completion i got "insufficient sapce"  error as well  which i am guessing that it's trying to write the log file.
If memory serves there was only 40mb left on the recovery partition.  Yes MB not GB.

  • Factory Reset not Working U310 touch

Purchased this laptop a few months ago for daughter to take to college in a few weeks. It constantly hung up and wouldn't shut down so I tried to do a factory reset using the One-Key button on the side.  The screen said it worked and gave me the option of shutting down or restarting so I tried to restart but now it is just spinning. It just spins and spins (the icon) for hours. How long should this take? Should I interrupt this with a hard stop or try something else. This is the second "factory" reset I've tried and I am not getting a good feeling about this.

Definitely having issues restoring the laptop to factory defaults. It goes through the restore, then this time I opted to shutdown. Waited 15 minutes and then hit the power button. Screen just sits there displaying "Lenovo" and the rotating dots just turn and turn. It has been 10 minutes. Even my old dell boots faster than that. What do I do now? There are no optical drives and the boot option never takes me to a Bios.

  • How can I protect my information if factory reset not possible?

My iPhone 4 drowned and is clinically dead. I cannot, therefore, do a factory reset to protect my information.
Is anyone able to access my information if the phone cannot be turned on?
Is there anything else i can do before disposing of the phone to protect my information?

With iOS 5 installed you should be able to do future updates directly on the device via Settings > General > Software Update.
If you do an update via your computer's iTunes then you can force a backup by right-clicking the iPhone 'device' in iTunes and selecting backup. You should also copy any purchases off the iPhone to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, and copy off any important documents, files, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.

  • I could always check my data useage under settings: general - useage - since updating to iOS7.0.4 the option is not there anymore - Has it moved somewhere else or just not an option anymore?

I used to always check my data useage on my phone
SEttings: General: Useage so I could keep track of it and I would reset on the
day my phone provider account reset - since doing the update iOS 7.0.4 I cannot
find this option anymore - does anybody know if the option is still there and has
been moved somewhere else or the option is now just gone?  Any ideas would
    be greatly appreciated

If you are referring to the cellular usage, it is now located in Settings>Cellular. That will give you phone call usage and cellular data usage.

  • Factory Reset not working

I've upgraded to a newer phone and now my Droid X is now sitting around collecting dust, I have tried to reset the entire phone and even used a hard reset / wipe but its still not resetting correctly. Hence, this phone has been rooted before... any ideas how I can completely reset the phone back to it's original state? Or just root it back and then sell it?

What your asking cant be answered here. Google your questions. Lots of how to to straighten out your phone and get it to out of box condition.

  • I can't find "shuffle albums" on my gen 6 nano. Is that not an option anymore?

My last nano was a gen 4, I think, and it allowed me to shuffle the albums (not the songs in the album, just the albums themselves) while listening. I don't want to listen to random songs - some continuity between tracks would be nice. Is there a way to switch settings like on the last iPod I had?

Hold down the Apps for a second or two until you see the X. Tap on X to delete.

  • How many times should the computer cycle on-off when doing a factory reset?

I have a Toshiba A665-S6065 which can not boot.  Yesterday I tried the Auto Recovery by holding the 0
while booting, and following the default instructions.  It seemed to complete without errors.  But the computer
will still not boot.  Today, when reading the instructions, it said to expect the computer to cycle on and off severa
times.  So how many times?  will there be any propmts or messages?  How long should the entire process take?
How long should the computer be off before it turns on again each time?  I think I might be screwing things up
by intervening and trying to start the computer myself because it isn't clear to me what should actually be happening.
Could someone please tell me what to expect before I start looking at possible hardwre problems?
BTW, I can access the Setup and Boot Menu.
    Thanks,
    kjdroid
    NEW info:
Now when I boot while holding the 0 key, instead of going directly to the Recovery Wizard, it goes to the
    Windows Boot Manager.
from there the options are Windows Setup [EMS enabled]
and Windows Memory Diagnostic, as well as the F8 option for advanced options.
If I select Windows Memory Diagnostic I get
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status : 0xC000000f
Info : The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
If I select Windows Setup or F8 followed by normal windows startup or startup in safe mode then
I get the following sequence of events.
Starting Windows with the Windows logo.
    then the blue screen
Then to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard, where it partitions, and does the CRC and then prompts to press
    finish to restart the computer.
Either the computer does not shut down, or it stops and starts very quickly because all the lights cycle
on and off but it does not appear that the start/stop light actually ever turns off.
Then I get the Starting Windows with Logo again.
Then the Recovery Wizard comes back but only with the screen about partitioning.  It does not
do the recovery and CRC this time.
Nextis the Toshiba Logo reappears again with the options for F2 or F12 for the Setup and Boot Menus.
Finally, I get a blue screen and it appears nothing else is happening.  I let it sit for 30 minutes before I retry, because I am not sure what is supposed to be happening now.
Also, one of my attempts, I got as far as the messages:
    Setting up the Registry
    Starting Services
    Applying System Settings
Will continue after restarting your computer
Is preparing your computer for first use.
But then again, it just goes into the blue screen state until I finally decide to shut things down.
Am I being premature or should I let the blue screen sit there for a few hours while work is being
done in the background?  I don't hear any sounds from the computer that would indicate any type of activity.
    Thanks again

Actually, it's kind of hard to tell you what to replace. If you have a spare hard drive laying around, go for it. It also could be memory issues (I have the same model as you) & it was my sister-in-law's notebook before I get it. The notebook had several memory dumps that CCleaner found & deleted when I was working on it.
I told her that I would re-install it for her to make sure there no viruses or such. After backing up the computer, I proceeded to what was supposed to work, pressing "0" at startup to no avail, then booted into the area where the system restore, command line repairs & such were, & there was the option for a factory reset, the last option. I chose that one, & like you stated, it rebooted numerous times, until finally it was through. Longest factory re-install I've ever done.
What led me to believe there were memory issues was during the first round of updates, it BSOD'd, another memory dump was found by my portable CCleaner. It still had the original Samsung PC3-8500 memory, so I took the memory that shipped with my MSI (PC3-10600) & installed that, then not only was all fine, it was noticably faster. Once I got it fully updated & scanned with MBAM & the ESET Online Scanner (I always do this when installing or re-installing a computer), I removed my memory & placed hers back in, then returned it to her.
I ended up with it about 10 days later, she said it was still dumping. Needing a spare notebook, I offered $100 for it, ending up paying $150, but still came out way better than on eBay.
Once I got it, I placed the 6GB RAM back in there that I had, & also replaced the HDD with a extra Crucial M4 that was laying around. Right before swapping drives, I ran HD Tune (free) on the original, there were yellow attributes, meaning that it had issues pending. It's a 500GB Seagate HDD that runs at 7200 RPM. Just so happened, I lost a 500GB Seagate Barracuda desktop HDD (7200.11) less than a month ago. Booted the computer, the screen stated "No Operating System found".
So it could be either the HDD or memory (RAM). Or worse yet, the MB itself. Has it been dropped? Notebooks are fairly durable, but they don't take to being dropped very well. Does it run hot? If so, there may be severe dust buildup that's causing it to overheat, that will make it BSOD. My guess is that's it's one of the first three that I mentioned above & if it's the MB, forget it. Prices are too high, even for used ones & in a notebook, it's basically a total teardown to replace it. If it's a new MB, it may cost between $200 to $400, depending on popularity of the model. That's too much to pay to repair a computer built in 2010.
I'm trying to give some suggestions here, based totally on personal experience on my & other's computers that I work on. However, online it's a cat & mouse game. I don't want to tell you to purchase another HDD unless it's almost 100% certain that's the issue. Which is why I asked if you have a spare earlier. Also, try reversing the position of your memory sticks (a 5 minute job), it's behind that lid close to the battery underneath the notebook.
Post back if you need further assistance. Someone else may have other ideas, so follow the thread.
    Best of Luck,
    Cat

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!
    -sierra

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Factory reset option does not appear.

First of all, sorry if this is not the correct section to post this thread. My problem is that, I want my Lenovo ThinkPad x200 (windows 7) to return to it's factory condition, now the thing is that, when I go to control panel -> System and Security -> Backup and Restore -> Recover system settings or your computer -> Advanced Recovery Methods....and now this is where the option "Return your computer to factory condition" SHOULD appear but it doesn't, instead the option "Reinstall Windows (requires Windows installation disc)" appears, the funny part about that option is that this laptop (lenovo thinkpad x200) doesn't even have a disc tray. Well going back to the topic, I want to reset Factory Reset my laptop because this laptop had a previous owner (my uncle, he gave it to me) and had already occupy a lot of space and I just want to reset it so it would at least feel like I am the first owner and manage my space. So I would please love some help from you guys so I can know if there is any other method to reset my laptop, or any solution so that the option "Return your computer to factory condition" could appear so that I can finally do this because I am really getting annoyed because I cannot find a solution to this problem. I also tried pushing the button "ThinkVantage" at the very begining when I turn on my laptop, but I do not know what to do to reset it.
Can anyone just tell me another way or any suggestion? Anything will help!
Thank you very much for reading!
    -Rodrigo

When the system is booting, press thinkvantage button during the thinkpad logo and select restore to factory settings from the list of options. This will take an hour or half to put your system to factory condition.
Make sure to start pressing the button as soon as Lenovo comes on the screen.

  • Can i backgrade my iphone 4s from ios6.0.1 to ios6? - Wifi is greyed out and will not switch on, tried factory reset but keeps restoring to ios6.0.1, please release ios6.0.2 ASAP apple!

So yeah I recently upgraded to iOS 6 fine no problems, a few bugs here and there regarding txt shortcuts not working when imessages switches back to sms when loosing 3g but nothing major.
Then a few weeks ago I updated to iOS 6.0.1 as I thought maybe a few bugs would be fixed.  I backed up my phone (for the first time with iTunes).  Then after the 6.0.1 update I had (as it seems a lot people have had) a problem with the wifi not switching on and being dimmed out.  I tried various "reset the phone" "reset the network settings" options that people have put on these support forums.  So my last option was to reset the phone to factory settings- I did this two times, firstly reseting it to factory settings and restoring it to the back up, then reseting to factory settings and setting the phone up as new.  After doing this second reset my phone did not go back to iOS 5 (which is factory settings) but iOS 6.0.1 and I still have the same Wifi problem.
Apple- please release 6.0.2 ASAP, this bug is costing me ton of 3g data as I use my iPhone regularly for work and use it at home all the time.
Is there anyway I can back grade to ios5 or ios6?
    PLEASE HELP!!
    thanks
    Martyn

Ok after reading a few posts I relalise you can not down grade os on iphones and never have been able to.
But how come I can't factory reset my phone properly? sure factory reset will mean it will reset the phone and its os to the os that it built with with was ios5?
